You other mothers can't deny,
When a girl walks in with an ever expanding waist
And a round thing in your face
You....'d better give her some cake....

etc, etc,

New thread! Enjoy!

He was in Hild Bede (sp?!) marzi, he did business and graduated 04. Oh and his name's Tom Seward.

misskatamari · 20/12/2013 08:42

Oh no marzi! Don't worry I had this early on in pregnancy on and off and it's been fine for ages. Prune juice and Andrex washlets should help hopefully. I found having bran flakes for breakfast helped as well.

Ugh I had the dreaded acid in the middle of the night. Took a zanac which did bugger all so had to traipse downstairs to get more chalky tablets as I'd run out by the bed. I must stock up like crazy for chrimbo - I wonder if I can bulk buy from anywhereGrin

Awww DH was supposed to have a day off today (works do last night so they've all been given today off) but his work have a deadline on 8th jan so are super busy and they've said anyone who comes in over chrimbo gets credited with 2 extra holiday days. Which is good but I feel so bad for him - he's working ridiculous hours at the moment and will be in all weekend and is so tired. I feel a bit guilty being at home when he's working so hard. Hopefully I can shuffle about and get the house sorted a bit today - and bake some cakes for him to take in tomorrow.

marzipanned · 20/12/2013 08:55

Thanks all! 'The tetchy tyrant' - love that! At least painful poos are sort of practice for pushing out a baby's head (ha. Can feel all the 2nd/3rd time Mums laughing at me down the internet now :) )

Shrops he was a bit ahead of me then, I graduated 07. It's just such a small world up there I expect we would've known a lot of the same people if graduating round the same time!

misskat I know just how you feel, DH is working like a loon and I feel awful for him, and can't even really finish getting the house back in order as I need his help shifting heavy stuff. Is yours taking any days off over Christmas? I've forced mine to take the 25th, 26th, and 1st and WFH on the days in between, so at least I can make him a nice lunch, rub his back while he tries not to have an aneurysm and generally be a Good Wife Grin

misskatamari · 20/12/2013 09:14

Awww we're the same marzi too - house has stuff in all the wrong places after the decorating!

Luckily his work have given them between Christmas and new year off - although they have asked people to come in if they can. We've got train tickets booked to visit his family in Cardiff though so will be away Fri-mon. We were hoping it could get the 2nd off as it's out anniversary but I think we'll have to postpone that! Hoping after they finish this project be can take some of his holiday time (still has 10 days from this year which they will carry over) so fingers crossed we can have some time together before the baby arrives and get her room sorted out! Smile

marzi, I've had that too from time to time this pregnancy. Lots of fruit, veg and water seems to help. I also swear by moist wipes, they're great. If it makes you feel better, it's only been now and again.

Had our first evening in the main bedroom last night with our lovely en suite. It was great, the room is bloody huge. At the moment it's lovely and uncluttered but I don't think it'll stay this way.

I've made good progress on the stollen so far, the sugar biscuit dough is ready to roll and Victoria sponge next. I love a baking day :)

SugarMiceInTheRain · 20/12/2013 11:15

I have got so behind on this thread... everything has caught up with me and yesterday was just too much - volunteered to walk the children from the school to church and back for the carol service, which was a stupid idea as the agony in my pelvis today and yesterday can testify Hmm Went for lunch then MW appointment. Apparently I'm measuring slightly small for my date (which is a bit unusual as I've been big most of my pregnancy and spent my other pregnancies having extra growth scans as I was apparently too big, though both boys were under 7lb at term!) Then DS2 had his best friend over to play but on the way back from school DS1 had an accident and split his eyebrow open Sad Luckily doesn't need stitches but my mum (who luckily was visiting) was able to take DS2 and friend home whilst I sat at the walk-in centre with DS1.

Off on holiday today - Cologne Christmas markets - yay! But been desperately trying to get all the pre-Christmas preparations/ baking done before we leave and am knackered... There were a couple of presents I had to drop off but I literally have run out of time as it'll be an hour round trip to take in both villages and get back here and I have to pick DH up from work at 12, and boys from school at 1 then head off - argh!

Anyway, I doubt I'll get back on here before Christmas, so would like to wish all of you, your families and bumps a wonderful Christmas! Xmas Smile

camwombat · 20/12/2013 11:22

When we had ds, DH took 2 weeks paternity leave and then had a weeks holiday straight after that which was really nice. This time round he won't have any paternity leave so I'm hoping baby is on time as he is off that week.

A word of advice, if you end up staying in hospital for any reason, don't get your oh to start paternity leave until you are out of hospital. From friends experience it's much better to have them when you are at home than in the hospital.

Its also never too early in the morning to start baking. I've made chilli at 5am before!

Lovely stories of how people met, we met at uni, DH was doing his PhD and I was doing my BSci in same dept. We were together 7.5yrs before engagement, got married a day short of our 8yrs anniversary and will have been married 4 years in Feb.

Julietee · 20/12/2013 13:42

And to you, SugarMice! That all sounds insanely busy.

The last week I've only wanted to a)eat all the carbs in the world, preferably nonstop, and b) sleep forever. I am so tired despite having done sweet FA.

I think I've been feeling LO less because he's kicking into my back where my placenta is. Hmm. Hopefully I'll get bigger soon so he can prove to me he's ok!
Though there seems to be weird discomforts associated with bump growth spurts, does anyone else have this? Recently I've felt absurdly bloaty and winded for no reason when walking, with no appetite/ room for eating in the evening. Which I think may be a growth spurt thing, as it all seems to have settled down now and I can once again walk and eat everything in tghe evening. Anyone else?

Sassy20 · 20/12/2013 14:25

What tablets have people been taking for heartburn? I've got docs appt to get something as gaviscon only does so much now and worried I'm taking too much! X

sunflowered · 20/12/2013 15:07

Sassy mine gave me omeprazole and it's great Smile

sunflowered · 20/12/2013 15:10

Julietee I have spells where I feel pants for 2-3 days at a time then all fine again. Think that might be related to growth spurts. As my mum put it when I grumbled at her "It sometimes feels like it's sucking the life out of you, doesn't it?" Which is sad but true some days.

Sassy20 · 20/12/2013 15:17

Thanks Sunflowered. Just waiting for my appt now - docs are running late as alwaysHmm

marzipanned · 20/12/2013 17:24

Eeyore it must be lovely to be in your bedroom at last! I hope all the baking went well.

I was hoping to be back in our bedroom for the night of the 24th but not too sure that's going to happen, which is okay. However, I did start putting little bits of the sitting room and nursery back together today and unpacked all the 0-6 months clothes into the drawers, which felt good, if scary.

SugarMice have a lovely Christmas and a fab time in Germany. Their markets are so wonderful!

Julietee I think it makes sense that you would feel different on different days depending on the way baby is lying. Eg if they're really pushing into your lungs it will be much harder to exercise...
At the moment I have about the same amount of energy every day but then again my bump hasn't grown in weeks! It also wouldn't surprise me at all if you felt more tired during growth spurt periods. Our bodies are working hard at the moment to provide the babies with everything they need!

Sassy hope you get prescribed something useful!

I think DH has about 15 days of holiday to carry over, though no doubt he won't be able to use it all next year either. If he's able to take a full fortnight of PL, I'll be happy.

winterflowers · 20/12/2013 19:03

I'm on omeprazole as well, used to take it regularly as had v bad reflux. It's v good as it treats the cause and reduces tje stomach acid rather than just trying to neutralise it. And you can still take gaviscon etc if really needed.

Julietee I'm knackered all the time, one of the reasons am so glad to now be work free! And I also struggle eating in the evening...may just be as I stuff my face so much in the daytime!

Have fun at thw markets sugar will be so nice and christmassy

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 20/12/2013 19:58

Havent posted on here in ages and just saw we are on post number 666 so just posting to rectify that Grin

Sassy20 · 20/12/2013 19:59

Got ranitidine or something like that. Hopefully it'll work and can still have gaviscon alongside it. X

misskatamari · 20/12/2013 20:31

Ranatidine is pretty good sassy - I live on the stuff at the moment! Glad you got something to help! I'd heard people talk about the acid before but had never experienced it before I got pregnant and it is just horrible! Ahhh another thing which should magically disappear once babies are out Grin

Sassy20 · 20/12/2013 21:10

That's good to know MissKat. I'd never had it before pregnancy either and remember saying to dh before had dd that when I was in labour just to keep reminding me no more heartburn and no more back pain! X

jazzcat28 · 20/12/2013 21:37

Had my growth scan today and pleased to say everything measured bang on average - current estimated weight of baby if it arrived today - 4lb 3oz! Even managed 3 Ferraro Rocher after dinner without a huge spike in glucose levels so pretty pleased.

On the flip side I think we will be saying goodbye to my old man cat between now and Xmas. He's not eaten in days, barely moves from his basket, can't walk (back legs seem to have seized up) and tonight when I got out the comb (which he usually goes loopy for) he barely managed to lift his head in acknowledgement. I sat with him on my lap for an hour and he barely purred once (usually can't hear the telly). Also he is literally skin and bones. Am going to try the vets to see if they have any appointments between now and Xmas but if not I fear he will pass on his own accord Sad. He looks so frail and in pain and whilst I hate the though of him going, I'm not sure there's much to be done. He's 17yrs old and I just think it's his time. Sad

notoneforselfies · 20/12/2013 21:56

Jazzcat I'm so sorry to hear about your cat being unwell. He's had a bloody good innings and bet he's been very well loved indeed. Thanks
Also glad to hear appointment went well - and reaching over 4lb has to be a milestone to celebrate too! Did you get a pic in the end?

jazzcat28 · 20/12/2013 22:00

Thanks notone, he has truly had a good innings and I have looked after him since we got him as a kitten (excluding 3yrs uni) so I feel like his one and only mummy.

No pics today but we didn't see much really anyway - all far too big and cramped in there! Bean still breech so hoping it will turn in a few weeks. Fingers crossed GD consultant is happy with everything at my consultation on 31st

gnittinggnome · 20/12/2013 22:04

oh jazzcat I'm so sorry to hear about your cat - he has had a good innings, but that won't make it any easier. We're likely to have to do the right thing by our ginger/white cat in the near future, but she was given 6 weeks to live in January this year and is still a feisty bundle of fur, even if she's slowing down a lot now. (a young cat, but she has some form of cancer that even the big vet hospital didn't think was worth trying to tackle - no obvious distress yet, but it's coming, and soon). Good news on the size of the baby though.

misskatamari · 20/12/2013 22:06

Awww jazz that's great to her your scan went well but so sad about your cat. It's heartbreaking as they really are part of the family. Bless him, I hope you get to give him lots of love and cuddles in the time he has left xxx

Sassy20 · 20/12/2013 22:21

Jazz sorry to hear about your cat being ill. They're part of the family and it's horrible when you see them suffering. As others have said he's obviously been well loved throughout his life.

Good news on the scan though. X
