You other mothers can't deny,
When a girl walks in with an ever expanding waist
And a round thing in your face
You....'d better give her some cake....

etc, etc,

New thread! Enjoy!

Cubano Good job! Would you like to come nest in my new flat too please?

misskat I am sure your husband will love the present :) So thoughtful!

5.30am check in..oh joy!

Have just caught up on the last few days and wanted to send Flowers to Jazz. So sorry about your cat my love. Take care.

I'm so glad to have finished work for Xmas. We've started our Xmas road trip and are currently at my DM's where I'm enjoying being fussed over. Not had to lift a finger so far!

Hope the rest of you are all ok (and sleeping!). I might see if I can will myself back to sleep for a few more hours!

EeyoreIsh · 22/12/2013 07:44

jazz so sorry to hear about your cat Sad it's so sad to lose a family pet x

littleen you're baking sounds amazing.

I managed to get all my baking done in time for DH's birthday party. We had a cracking time. The cakes went down very well, as did the sausage rolls! There are plenty of mince pies left which is awful as I'll have to eat them Grin

I laughed so much I really struggled with bladder control! I had to keep going to loo for fear of wetting myselfBlush I may need to crack into the tena lady soon.

EeyoreIsh · 22/12/2013 07:45

your not you're, oh the shameBlush

rueyrichardson · 22/12/2013 08:17

Ruey checking in at 33 weeks. So sorry to hear of your cat, Jazz, hope your cathartic baking helped yesterday.

Loved reading about the way everyone met their partner. I do read most of the posts during the week but don't find the time to actually post myself. I'm off work now supposedly til the 30th so maybe that will change Smile. I have just snuck down to wrap my DH's pressies so my Xmas shopping is now more or less done - he will wrap mine in noisy secrecy later; odd really since I ordered the wellies from Amazon myself and wrote down which perfume to buy in Boots!

Feeling OK, a bit achey and struggling with the body not keeping up with the jobs that need doing, but nowhere near the heartburn or uncomfortableness that I experienced with DS. Fingers crossed it will continue. Looking forward to that glass of fizz on Xmas Day. I read the "glass of wine at Xmas" thread over on Pregnancy and was surprised at the very strong opinions on the matter!

Question for NCTers or second/more time rounders, remind me when you should call in to the labour ward when you think you are in established labour - contractions 2 mins apart? And def after water breaks? Can't remember from last time (I was induced anyway).

Happy Sunday!

jazzcat28 · 22/12/2013 08:36

Thanks again for all the kind thoughts. I am still sad but today is a new day!

I haven't seen the thread on Xmas drinking while pg... What's our thoughts on this? I was hoping for a weak Buck's Fizz with breakfast and possibly a small glass of wine with dinner (which will be 5pm at DM's). Am I a bad mummy?

ruey I have been told due to my GD that labour ward want me in as soon as waters break for extra monitoring, whereas I think low risk mums is when contractions are 3-4mins apart? I'm sure an experienced mummy will be here to put me right though. A friend of mine recently had her first baby and the hospital told her to stay at home thinking she had ages but her DH took her anyway and she literally walked into a room and pushed it out in 20mins! They have told her next time to opt for a home birth it was so quick!

notoneforselfies · 22/12/2013 08:45

I shall avoid that thread in pregnancy like the plague then as no doubt I will have them all flaming me when I announce my intentions for a Buck's Fizz for breakfast, glass of wine for lunch and no doubt a gin and tonic in the evening too. What with all the food and accompanying soft drinks - plus the fact that I will have metabolised each drink long before the next one, I have no guilt issues with this! Some people would probably call social services on me to put me on a list already though! Each to their own.

DawnOfTheDee · 22/12/2013 08:47

I'm a second timer but can't quite remember Blush as I never went into labour with DD (had to be induced). Think it's when contractions are approx 3 minutes apart or if your waters break and have meconmium (sp) in?

notoneforselfies · 22/12/2013 08:50

re. hospital: When contractions are regular, strong, around 4-5 mins apart and lasting for 45-60 secs is the NHS guideline.

misskatamari · 22/12/2013 09:00

Definitely best to avoid the drinking on Christmas Day thread - I've got my Buck's Fizz and I am going to drink it! To be fair out babies are pretty much cooked now anyway - I doubt a bit of booze on one day is going to make any difference! It's not like we're necking white lighting in the first trimester Grin

I think our nct lady said when you have about 3 contractions in 10 mins for going in hospital.

Awww DH is in work again today so I'm hoping to get lots of present making done and want to get the house tidied a bit. It's such a struggle when you can't bend and have achey hips and pubic bone but fingers crossed I can at least put a dent in the piles of crap everywhere! Ugh think I'm getting a cold too so it's gonna be a day of echinacea and vitamin c!!! Hope you've all got lovely things planned today!

winterflowers · 22/12/2013 09:19

We definitely deserve to treat ourselves at Christmas and some bucks fizz / champagne for champs and sone nice red wine will be fine. We're in the third trimester most stuff is developed and they are just becoming fatties now. Plus I, like notone am planning to eeeeat and so that will balance it out.

misskat white lightning Grin that sounds like my teenage yrs down the park!

Thanks jazz hope you're doing ok today

I don't think a small glass will do any harm at this stage so enjoy your treat. Smile I won't be drinking because I've always had this guilt in my mind about my oldest son's autism and whether it was caused by that occasional drink I had. Ridiculous really but I'd like to have a clear conscience this time.
I was hoping to do some shopping today and buy a couple of nice dresses from Mothercare for Christmas but DP is still massively hungover from his work do on Friday. Angry I suppose I can't blame him for one night of drinking in a whole year but its pretty inconvenient.

gnittinggnome · 22/12/2013 10:05

Grrrr. Sometimes owning up to a mistake is a mistake. Stupid cheese gifts. Stupid wrapping paper that made me forget it was cheese. Stupid fresh cheeses that go off if not fridged immediately, and start really stinking, and have to be thrown out.

Before the GD, I was conscious about my alcohol intake, and would monitor it for a small glass of wine (a tasting sample size, max) once a week, but now I've got other things to concentrate on (food!) I've been a bit more relaxed. Actually did turn down a glass of wine last night, in anticipation of Christmas Day, but feel a little virtuous for it.

Speaking of GD, I tried for my before breakfast blood sugar count this morning, and it came up over the limit and quite high, which was weird as I hadn't eaten anything. So I took it again and it came up within normal limits. So I did a third reading, and got a third (good) result! Am now doubting the whole process. sigh. This morning is going to be a chore.

champagne sorry you're not sleeping - can you get a nap in today at all? Have a bath tonight, that might help a little maybe?

jazzcat Thanks

jazzcat28 · 22/12/2013 10:25

gnitting I'm also sceptical about my GD blood readings. I was borderline anyway but ever since I've started monitoring my levels I've always been well within the accepted ranges. Yesterday I pushed the boat out and had 3 or 4 chocs after my lunch and reading was 6.5, same again after dinner and it was 6.5 again. So might try my luck with a mince pie later...

Sounds like my plan of a bit of alcohol on Xmas Day is within the realms of acceptability then. Phew!

Final load of baby clothes in the wash as we speak Smile sometimes I wish I was having a summer baby so I could proudly hang them out on the line for all my neighbours to see rather than tumble dry, but I guess that will all come in good time!

EeyoreIsh · 22/12/2013 11:02

I had a glass of bucks fizz last night, and will have a glass of proper bubbles with Xmas dinner. I've had hardly any booze this pregnancy but feel like it's ok to have a bit now. Baby goes hyper when I drink though.

I had a mince pie and stollen for second breakfast, yummy Grin

laura0007 · 22/12/2013 11:46

Ooh baby clothes in the wash jazz! I'm planning on doing mine in the week off work between Xmas and new year. I can't wait, I've been dying to do them for ages and for once I don't think ill mind getting the iron out either!

sunflowered · 22/12/2013 11:51

I've had my 1-2 units on special occasions from about 12 weeks so will def be saving this week's glass for some xmas bubbles. It'll be drunk slowly and with mountains of food so I don't see it having much more of an impact than some of the other nasties we're exposed to on a day to day basis through food and the environment.

Our extension roof has started to leak again in the heavy rain Sad The builder sent someone to fix it last month but it hasn't been tested by heavy rain since then and it's failed the test... Not holding out much hope of getting it sorted before xmas so hopefully the typhoon that's blowing.over for christmas eve doesn't make it too much worse. Why do these things never happen on a Monday morning when we've got no work commitments and no public holidays? At the start of our build the builder blocked the whole terrace's drains over the easter weekend...

CubanoHabana · 22/12/2013 11:51

About to start my next set of cleaning... Should be easier than yesterday, as at the moment we only really use bathroom on second floor, spare bed just needs sheets washing and then there is nursery which just needs hoovering...

Then off to lindisfarne concert with mum tonight, last time she went, she was pregnant with me!

Hope everyone else enjoys their day!

Thingymajigs · 22/12/2013 16:59

Oh no sunflowered. Sad Can the builder not come out tomorrow? I think they should if they've done a poor job. Fingers crossed that it holds out until it can be sorted.
DP did finally emerge from bed and we went to the Mothercare sale. I bought two lovely dresses (one stripey dress I shamelessly copied from one of you, sorry!). I bought that a size smaller so I could wear it afterwards too. The other two are suitable for nursing so I should definitely get my monies worth. Couldn't resist buying some newborn clothes in the sale too. Must stop now though, we have too much!
Hope you are all enjoying your weekend.

White lightening misskat, we've all been there obviously. I made a decision not to drink at all in this pregnancy and I'm quite single minded when I've decided something so I won't be. I don't actually miss it at all now even though usually I drink wine more days a week than I don't. I will be drinking while breast feeding though.
