You other mothers can't deny,
When a girl walks in with an ever expanding waist
And a round thing in your face
You....'d better give her some cake....

etc, etc,

New thread! Enjoy!

misskat don't EVER go to Shrewsbury Sainsburys, I am the knob end you hate that dumps her trolley because she can't be arsed to walk 50 yards to the trolley bay. Sorry.

Good luck sleeping girls, last nights dreams include finding blood on my loo paper and some twisted Japanese porn shizzle leading to very little sleep. I've stupidly eaten both Camembert and halloumi this evening but dreams surely can't get any weirder than the Japanese thing. Honestly, freaky shit.

KalevalaForMePlease · 17/12/2013 02:45

LovesToBake, you poor thing, that sounds horrible, and on your last week too. Hope you feel better soon. And I hear you re the pelvic floor. I was fine after DD, was quite smug, but it's all gone to hell now! A sneezing fit requires a total outfit change!

jazzcat I was the same as you, did some very ill advised googling and got myself into a bit of a state. Talked to midwife yesterday and she was great, very matter of fact, didn't seem too worried and told me to watch my diet. On Friday I have appointments with the GD team and will get a blood monitor then, so can start checking my levels, but no mention of CS or inductions or anything like that yet, so am feeling a lot better about it all. I'll just have to take it as it comes.

Am feeling very jealous of all these organised people, need to get tidying!

Thingymajigs · 17/12/2013 04:05

Am I the only one with Restless Leg Syndrome? I get it pretty bad with my pregnancies which means I only get a couple of hours sleep a night. It is driving me mad tonight. Twitch central over here.
Still, only 7 weeks to go! 33 weeks today. Ds2 said he couldn't remember what I looked like before so I showed him my 8 week "bump" pic (nothing there) and he said I looked so lovely and slim. He must think I look like Shamu in my current state.
Currently very jealous of DP arranging his work do on Friday while I'm wrapping presents, hosting playdates and cooking endless Christmas bakes for ds2's school party. It's all a bit unfair really so I'll eat his share of the Christmas cupcakes to even out the injustice.
Hope you are all sleeping well and avoiding cramps/3am munchies/toilet stop #6/scary, pervy pregnancy dreams.

Thingymajigs · 17/12/2013 04:21

Baby is the size of a pineapple apparently. I'm finding that mental image a little unnerving. Perhaps a less spiky fruit could've been found. Although I reckon they are running out of veg ideas after last weeks Bok Choy comparison. They are making these up now.

Shropshiremummy2B · 17/12/2013 07:24

Thingy I'm a durian fruit this week.....

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durian

I think I'd rather the pineapple!

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 17/12/2013 07:47

Ugh I'm so tired now. Need the loo every 2 hrs in the night (only bathroom is downstairs through cold kitchen Hmm) and once I'm awake at 3-4am - that's it for the day. For the last 2 nights I've been treated to horrendous period pain for hours too. I'd forgotten all this stuff! Confused
Counting down the days now.
Good luck to everyone with midwife/hospital appts today and sorry for the whinge Wink

Thingymajigs · 17/12/2013 08:06

Confused "strong odour and formidable husk. " Yum, throw some in the fruit bowl.

I'm counting down too. Although 7 weeks seems far too short a time before I'm given a baby it seems way too long to be heavily pregnant. I'd quite like a gap between the two events.

gnittinggnome · 17/12/2013 08:08

shrops have you ever encountered a durian fruit? I would most heartfeltedly recommend you be a pineapple instead!

gnittinggnome · 17/12/2013 08:09

(carrying a durian on public transport in Singapore carries a higher fine than smoking on public transport...)

I have 36 days until 40 weeks. Shock I hope they go quickly

EeyoreIsh · 17/12/2013 08:58

47 days to go. It seems ages and yet close at the same time, how can that be?

Apparently durian fruit is tasty, but I don't think I could get past the smell.

I'm off to London for my work handover today. Whilst I'm out we're getting carpets for the main bedroom and nursery delivered. DH has worked really hard to get the rooms ready. It means tomorrow I can unpack the baby stuff Smile it'll be lovely to finally get into the main bedroom too, 17 months after we bought the house!

misskatamari · 17/12/2013 09:05

Eeeek 25 days until 37 weeks! Shock That's quite a scary thought.

Jeeesh shrops that fruits looks scary - definitely don't fancy getting one of those out of my fanjo! Trolley wise you'd probably get low level wrath - the dumpers I can just about cope with - it's the people who manage to get the trolley to the trolley bay and just leave it at a ridiculous angle when they could just as easily slot it neatly in to the trolley in front. I have to avoid the local tesco as I start ranting and raving to myself and sorting them out like a crazy woman.

Good luck in London today Eeyore! Bet you can't wait to be all done and enjoy your house Smile

My task for the day is finishing the never ending scarves I am making for my niece and nephew so I can finally make DH some Christmas presents! Also need to order a mattress for the cosleeper and research birth pools as I can't decide whether to hire a fancy one or inflatable, or buy an inflatable. Decisions decisions

HarlemWobble · 17/12/2013 09:36

Thanks Juliete and Gnitting. Banana milkshakes, banana bread...I'll definitely be stocking up to avoid that pain again!

Having a nightmare journey into work this morning. Commute has been 1.5 hours already and I've not even reached London yet. Had loads I'd planned to get through today ahead of my mat cover starting tomorrow. Oh well, I think I'm starting to get a cba attitude!

31 weeks today for me, so that's 63 days to EDD. Baby is either the size of a head of lettuce or a bunch of asparagus depending on which app I look at. I know which I'd prefer to push out!

marzipanned · 17/12/2013 10:00

Eeyoreish that does sound exciting!! I have completely given up on our carpet people ever delivering the carpets. SO desperate to unpack baby things and put up Christmas tree. Make sure you post some pics of nursery! I hope the handover doesn't end up being too emotional.

misskat Unacceptable trolley behaviour makes me very angry too. I also have a policy of always getting my trolley from one of the bays so it's one less that the collecting people have to push. As if they care...

Harlem that commute sounds horrific. I think CBA attitude is the right one to adopt at this stage!

I think durian fruit tastes horrible too, but it might taste okay if you held your nose while eating it...

33 weeks today, so 49 days til EDD. That still feels like AGES to me, but that's a good thing I suppose given the state of the house and my MA.

Today's task: DISSERTATION.

EeyoreIsh · 17/12/2013 10:03

marzi if you were near me I'd recommend our carpet guys, they've been great so far. Let's hope they do is proud today.

Tomorrow's bump pic will definitely be from the nursery, and I'll probably be wearing my slobs to celebrate official start of leave!

The fruit analogies get a bit ridiculous at this stage. I prefer the weight guides. Apparently my baby is now 2kg, no wonder my bladder struggles at times!

Julietee · 17/12/2013 11:43

So, I went for a nice walk BUT stumbled and managed to scratch my hand against either a nail or some barbed wire - not much but it did bleed. Am I nuts to worry about tetanus from this? I've washed and savlon-d it.

LovesToBake · 17/12/2013 11:47

Never even heard of a durian fruit but quite frankly I wouldn't want to picture either that or a pineapple making it's way out into the world from down below in less than 2 months! Think they need to try harder with the fruit comparisons.

Thingy yes I'm with you on the restless legs, it's horrible isn't it. Last night I had a really crappy night's sleep. Went up about 9:30pm, baby decided to put on a full 90 minute display of her finest kickboxing moves which resulted in no less than 5 loo trips before it all quietened down at 11pm. Then I sneezed and had to go hunting for tissue thanks for pelvic floor fail. Then at 2:45am DS decided it was morning so spent 20 mins calling "Mummy" in increasingly irritated tones from his room. Chose to ignore him and thankfully he nodded off again until 6:30am. I am now dreading having to move him into a bed around the time the baby needs his cot - at least now he's trapped in the cot!

Feeling sick and sorry for myself today. In work but have nothing to do (last day is Thurs) and just counting down to seeing some good friends for a pizza at lunchtime which should break up the day nicely. Thankfully WFH tomorrow (aka icing/decorating my Christmas cake) and then final day showing willing in the office on Thurs. Bring it on!

jazzcat28 · 17/12/2013 12:52

kalevala I had my 31wk midwife appt last night and my diabetic consultation this morning. It lasted 2hrs! If you can I suggest taking your DH/DP and a notebook and pen. It was great to have DH there so he could hear everything first hand and ask questions for himself and the notebook so you can write down all the do's and don'ts. Scary bit was when she went through the 5 main risks to baby as a result of GD - although did stress that this was severe cases only and that if I can keep my blood sugar levels low then it was highly likely I wouldn't need to worry at all. Got my blood testing kit which is a bit of a faff but we did a practise one there and got a reading of 4.8 which she said was perfect - just about to have a go for my lunchtime one. I asked about early induction/CS and she said that as long as blood sugar levels are low, and scans don't show that it's particularly enormous then I will be left to my own devices to go into labour naturally. Even if sugar levels are well monitored then I am still high risk so will have to birth on main labour ward and will have extra monitoring etc whilst there. No chance of going to the nice birthing centre but at the end of the day I just want me and baby fit and well so will do whatever that takes. DH was more concerned about eating 'boring' food for the next fortnight!

Unplastered · 17/12/2013 13:07

I am a selfish trolley-dumper too, but my excuse is that I hate leaving DD unattended in the car.
32 weeks today, that's 35 days till 37 weeks, 56 days till due date, and a maximum of 70 days to go!

gnittinggnome · 17/12/2013 14:42

jazzcat tell your DH to look at Atkins recipes, and then add on all his favourite fruits and veg, and you're good to go! (Just had broccoli and cauliflower cheese, with leftover roast chicken, roast parsnips and roast carrots for lunch - yum!) Plus good quality sausages (cheap ones are full of rusk and cereals, so avoid like the plague) are asol good - sausage and stewed red cabbage is another staple. I barely even notice the lack of a mound of mashed potato...

jazzcat28 · 17/12/2013 14:51

gnitting my diabetic specialist told me to avoid cheese (only a matchbox size of low fat cheddar allowed) and sausages.... and that with every meal I must have some carbs (although less than I'm used to). In particular to avoid root veg such as parsnips and carrots. Damn this is all confusing! Am going to try out a few different things and monitor my levels today and tomorrow and see what works. Also going to try porridge tomorrow.

gnittinggnome · 17/12/2013 15:26

jazz oh blimey, I'm sorry to be dishing out contradictory advice! Go with your specialist, and ignore me! Everyone is different, and what works for me might not work for you - I found things like porridge to be completely unhelpful, but try as many things as you can whilst you have a little leeway, so you know what works for you. Keep a detailed food diary, so you can refer back to it, it really helps, and if necessary you can show it to your specialist for back-up if their advice doesn't work for you. Regular diabetics need to avoid fats, as visceral fat (eg around the abdomen) is really bad, but we need calories! Key thing though, which I will say, is that carbs (bread, pasta, rice) are different from carbohydrates (vegetables, fruits) as the latter has more complex nutritional profiles (and fibre) and are therefore "good" to eat. If you can't control your GD whilst consuming breads (which I couldn't) you can get the carb calories you need through vegetables and pulses (which is why the Atkins diet won't let you eat a lot of vegetables, as it tries to induce ketosis which is only possible through zero carbs at all). A meal which isn't entirely protein (eg just bacon and eggs) will have some carbs in it, so don't try to add on rice/potato if they don't work for you.

Right, I am absolutely going to stop trying to be helpful and confusing you in the process! If it would help at all I can share my best low-blood-sugar meals with you, but as I said, what works for me might not work for you.

Stick with it! It will get a lot easier when you know what you can eat.

gnittinggnome · 17/12/2013 16:14

Argh! Just one more thing - snack. You'll be eating fewer calories without mountains of carbs, so find things you can eat between meals that you really like and snack. It also distributes the glycaemic load, so you won't get spikes from eating large meals but rather a smoother level of blood sugars. Right, am absolutely stopping this now!

jazzcat28 · 17/12/2013 17:34

Bless you gnitting I guess we are all different aren't we? I had a can of chicken soup and two slices of wholemeal bread for lunch followed by an apple and a cheeky chocolate from my advent calendar. Post lunch blood reading was within threshold by 0.4 so hurrah! I can have my advent calendar chocs! About to cook a healthy dinner of salmon, veg and my measured out rice. Think might make some pots of sugar free jelly and berries for puddings. My GTT results were what she called borderline (i.e. my glucose challenge came back only 0.4 above the threshold) so am hoping I don't have to alter my diet too drastically to keep it in check.

Annoyingly, DH is a sugar junkie and currently eats mince pies like grapes. Did a test on him this afternoon and he scored 5.4!! Not impressed.

On a non-GD related note, I've had a productive sick day today wrapping my Christmas presents to festive tunes on the radio and am now finally feeling festive.

lovestobake hope you're feeling better now the working day is done

Julie I am no expert but if you washed your cut thoroughly and used antiseptic cream on it I reckon you'll be fine

marzi how's today's word D count then? Grin
