Hi everyone

Just popping in after a very busy but fun weekend. Am pooped and softly off to bed.

Posh do on Fri was great eliza, but I ended up telling a few people as I was fed up with lying about why I wasn't really drinking (I managed to make half a glass of red wine last about four hours, but when the cocktails were being ordered I had nowhere to hide! I'm not usually one to turn down a cocktail:). Everyone was so nice about it, as this is my second I was expecting everyone to be a bit 'meh' but they are more excited than I am!

Rest of weekend went by in a whirl of buying Christmas trees, putting up decorations (never really got that finished properly), meeting a friend for dinner and a movie and then a panto today with DH and DS. Phew! Really been paying for overdoing it today, so shattered and feeling very sick again.

Sorry to those of you that had to cancel nights out due to illness and deal with tactless mothers. I have one if those and I feel your pain!

hackneybird · 08/12/2013 22:15

wispa I liked Expecting Better too. I liked her approach as I was very keen to know if I should really cut out caffeine entirely or whether I could safely stick to my much loved daily coffee, not to mention that precious cuppa first thing upon waking :).

MarlenaGru · 08/12/2013 22:20

hackney i am jealous of your ability to stomach coffee. I would probably drink the odd cup if I could but the smell of dh's morning cup makes me want to cry. I miss tea and coffee so much.

Vickyvix · 08/12/2013 22:54

Good luck tomorrow bumblebeesmum :)

Thank goodness it is scan week (finally), I will be following close behind on Tuesday. Am a mixture of nerves and excitement at the moment.

super I don't know if it could be kicks, I felt a fluttering on Friday last week too, it happened a few times but nothing since. I've decided it was probably trapped wind or something (nice) but you could be feeling the first movements. It's my first so I do 't really know what it feels like.

CleverOl10 · 08/12/2013 23:20

I've also had a few flutters. It is my second and I think they do feel like movement but it seems too early. (I'm 13+5) But who knows! Baby was certainly a bouncer at the scan! Grin

SleepyNess · 09/12/2013 08:29

Markena, I'm with you on coffee! Used to be addicted but can't stand the thought of it now...

I'm somewhere between 13 and 14 weeks today yet couldn't even brush my teeth this morning. Toothbrush+mouth=retching bad...

GillyBillyWilly · 09/12/2013 08:32

Morning all! I've been rubbish on here lately.... Lurking but not really posting! Just been sooooo busy!
Hope everyone is well Smile
I've taken the day off today... Got a really bad headache which feels like it could be progressing into a migraine so I'm staying in bed in the dark!
15 weeks today... Baby is the size of an avocado! Amazed at how quickly they grow after 12 weeks!!!

Redcliff · 09/12/2013 08:43

Ness - I feel for you re the teeth brushing thing as I had that for a while although seems to have gone now.

MarlenaGru · 09/12/2013 10:11

Successful scan this morning! Baby slightly uncooperative but all fine thankfully. Now I can start getting excited! Back to my original due date though of 21st so 12weeks 2 days instead of the 11 I was told at early scan!! Not upset at being further along. Now I feel like I can wear my maternity clothes Grin

BEEwitched · 09/12/2013 10:14

I'm 15 weeks today (by OPK) and 16 weeks by scan (I'll never get this resolved, will I Xmas Grin) and I felt definite flutterings and wriggling last Thursday and Friday. Nothing over the weekend, but my placenta is anterior so baby has probably just turned and its now cushioning the movement.

I can report that almost ALL retching has stopped by this time, and while I've always been able to stomach coffee I hadn't touched regular tea since the beginning of pregnancy because it was so icky, and when DH's Granny made me a cup yesterday I tasted like manna from heaven.

SleepyNess · 09/12/2013 10:38

BEE thanks for the ray of hope!!! I absolutely cannot wait to feel better. I want to get some Christmas decorations, start baking cakes & cookies, get into festive mood, etc. So tired of feeling sick and tired. I've spent the whole of yesterday in bed....

Marlena, congrats!!

GillyBillyWilly · 09/12/2013 11:15

I'm 15 weeks today and hardly ever feel sick anymore after weeks of horrendous nausea and retching!
It will pass Smile

Mitchell2 · 09/12/2013 11:30

Morning ladies, had my first NHS scan today and was very nervous (even though I knew from the last scan everything was fine). Dated 12+6 so a day closer to the second tri Smile. Both DP and I were a bit worried because the sonographer didn't say much at the start and we couldn't see much but she said all good, and whilst I was nattering and not looking at the screen DP saw miss squirmie jumping around for a bit - something that I totally missed!

Spent the weekend in Venice on a nice romantic break. Being in Italy sucks when you cant be indulging in the nice wine but it was good to get away for once which wasn't for work. Still really tired but the nausea seems to be lifting (fingers crossed).

wispaxmas · 09/12/2013 11:41

Mitchell, Venice is my favourite city, it was always my research topic of choice when it came to doing papers in university (art history), and 1/3 of my masters thesis was devoted to the political iconography of the lion of St. Mark Grin Even without the wine, a weekend in Venice is magical. I couldn't imagine going later on in pregnancy, but about now would be lovely. Definitely jealous.

Glad to hear the nausea is lifting for lots of you!

I'm 14+5, and over the weekend I kept trying to focus on my stomach and see if I could feel anything that could be the fluttering I've been told to expect, but nothing. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll feel something!

GillyBillyWilly · 09/12/2013 11:50

I'm also trying to spend some quiet time focusing on my tummy more often but haven't felt anything yet... 15 weeks today!

chestnutmare · 09/12/2013 12:19

I told work today! Everyone was ace, so nice, lots of hugs!

My line manager had a meeting with someone from HR this morning (about something else), so mentioned it to them, so I've already had an email from them (no pressure) asking if I wanted to meet up for a chat to discuss things. I'm keen to do this as I find it all a little confusing!

Am so glad it's all out in the open now! Smile

Redcliff · 09/12/2013 12:51

Chestnut - really pleased that everyone was so nice a work. I might arrange a proper HR meeting in the new year. I technically work in a HR department but don't do HR so am just going to ask one of the guys I get on with to go through it with me. My DP is making noises about getting a full time job ( he currently works 3 days a week) which could work out well.

Well done on those lovely scans - makes it all seem more real in a lovely way doesn't it.

SleepyNess · 09/12/2013 13:14

OMG I just had a McDonalds burger for lunch!! I must have been a teenager last time I had one... Shock

GinandStripes · 09/12/2013 13:32

SleepyNess I keep craving KFC, also ages since I last had that and thankfully no KFCs locally to me.

I have no idea how I am going to tell work. I work from home and the majority of my contact with colleagues is emails and Skype. I know there is a form but that seems very formal and suspect I should do something informally first but I don't know what.

BEEwitched · 09/12/2013 13:56

My midwife got really cross that work hadn't done a risk assessment with me yet, so that will be something I have to broach once I am back - I dread going back, though, as atmosphere is at an all time low and things have kind of gone to hell in a handbasket since I've been off, so it will be fun!

Midwife appointment tomorrow, so we'll see how my vitals are doing...

Liquidambar · 09/12/2013 14:10

Just told my line manager. Phew! ! Feeling better now.

who mentioned KFC? I would give anything for some fried chickenWink

Riblet · 09/12/2013 15:34

Hi all,

Great to hear of all the positive scans and good reactions from work Smile I told the rest of my family at the weekend and they're all really excited. Also just had work xmas lunch and it was all baby talk, not by me though, by two dads of toddlers and a mum of grown up twins who were keen to fill me in on all the ways in which our lives will never be the same again!

Good news though- got the results of the combined Down's test on Saturday - didn't expect them so soon as only had scan on Monday - and all is fine, low risk, so that's a relief.

Wispa and Hackney- I really liked Expecting Better too- really makes you question what is accepted as being 'right'. Like you though Marlena and Ness I loved coffee and can't look at it now Sad It's getting better in that now I can walk past a Starbucks without wanting to vomit, but I can still smell it a mile off when DH has been drinking it in work, and I can't bring myself to drink any yet.

Re. nausea - it definitely does pass. I was pretty lucky I think as felt horrible for about 5 weeks but wasn't sick very much, but then around week 11-12 I suddenly felt normal again. When it eases obviously varies but hang in there and it will get better Smile

Ugh, am wearing my skinny jeans today with a hair elastic around the button - am pleased I can still get them on as have definitely put on weight but after that big lunch I need to undo the button completely and lie down!

Mitchell2 · 09/12/2013 16:03

yay for all the positive work telling stories. I had to tell a few people at my work quite early on and now I think that the gossip is slowing getting around. Still getting the rage when people (who are well meaning) dole out advice.

Riblet Envy ah skinny jeans. I got the bloat early on and now they just feel uncomfortable. Brought some maternity ones from topshop but even though they are under bump I'm not really big enough for them yet. Give it time and some mince pies and I am certain it will come soon...

Snowlet · 09/12/2013 16:48

Hi all, I've not been on in ages and ages, spent some weeks in America and just haven't had the energy.... but happy for the happy news and gutted for those with losses/problems. We're all already parents with all this worry, it doesn't start when they're born!

Just popping on to say, had my dating scan today, I'm 13+6, everything is fine. This is significant because I had two big bouts of unexplained bleeding, one about 8 weeks and one about 11 weeks. Both times I was convinced something awful was happening, but everything was fine. And I've had a fair amount of 'old blood' in the in-between times. So, of course go and get checked out, but it seems like sometimes we just bleed.

Good luck to those having scans in the next few days. Our technician was very cold and clinical and they are now charging you £6 for a photo! But it was still a bit magical.

Oh and my MS appears to have gone completely. I'm surprised. Feel free to hate me! I really feel for those still suffering.

MarlenaGru · 09/12/2013 17:35

Thanks Ness
My colleagues were lovely. They especially enjoyed the red velvet cake I lugged in for them! It was very yummy (although felt awfully sick afterwards!)

I can't wear jeans without feeling so uncomfortable. I have ordered some maternity ones but doubt they will stay up just yet. I have some stretchy ones from Trsco in a bigger size which are my weekend staples. Not very flattering though!

Does anyone know what they actually test the blood for? I didn't have bloods taken last time and just had Nuchal fold test.
