SinkyMalinks · 26/11/2013 18:46

Oh, and we're thinking blue or petrol blue (which is a teal/green colour really) for the pram.

FrankelInFoal · 26/11/2013 18:48

Well done on the purchases Sinks, have you found any NCT Sales near you, they are most bargainous!

The sleep-trigger tip is a good one, thanks Lazy.

There's gazillions frank. Haven't yet gone to one, but... I did get my nct card through the post last week, so can now bagsy my early entry!

evilgiraffe · 27/11/2013 14:18

Ugh, I have a cold/sore throat combo. Anyone got any diffage-safe remedies?

MyNameIsWinkly · 27/11/2013 14:24

Jakemans lozenges for the sore throat, vicks on the soles of your feet if you have a cough, plenty of fluids (warm honey and lemon), plenty of rest. Some paracetamol won't do any harm if you're boiling and sore. Poor you, hope you kick its arse soon.

I'm meant to be having an afternoon nap but am failing.

FaithTheVampireSlayer · 27/11/2013 14:38

Hot lemon and honey, paracetamol (it's ok to take it regularly). Inhaling steam helped me when I was bad at about 24 weeks. I ended up going off sick! Swollen glands and pain in my sinuses. Yuck! Hope you feel better soon draf.

Winks it's ok if you rest rather than actually sleep.

evilgiraffe · 27/11/2013 14:50

Okay, thanks both! So far I don't feel too ill, but my throat feels like it's full of razor blades. I shall add lemons and lozenges to the shopping list...

MyNameIsWinkly · 27/11/2013 15:49

It has to be the Jakemans menthol draf. They're fairly disgusting but do the trick. I had a sore throat last week at work and brought some in. Unwrapped one whilst on hold on the phone, colleague assumed they were sweets and held his hand out - I let him take one, bwahahaha Grin His face was priceless.

I managed a little snooze, which is good as I am out for dinner tonight. This way I may be able to make conversation past 7.30.

evilgiraffe · 27/11/2013 16:03

Where can you get them from? We generally get our shopping from ocado (what an MN cliche, I know), but they don't have them :(

MyNameIsWinkly · 27/11/2013 17:06

I get mine from tesco, and I've seen them in Home Bargains. Superdrug and Boots probably have them as well.

I want to shop with ocado online but HWCA claims to enjoy going to tesco. That makes one of us.

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 28/11/2013 07:54

How are you feeling now, draf? And when is your twelve week scan?

I told my line manager and will tell others on a need to know basis when I can cope! Ie not quite yet!

FrankelInFoal · 28/11/2013 08:04

Morning Hags, I got a telling off from my mum the other night when I said we were planning on using disposable nappies Hmm. She gave me a big lecture on the environment (she is in no way an enviro-mentalist) and now I have The Guilt.

OP posts:
evilgiraffe · 28/11/2013 08:17

Meh, resusable nappies destroy the environment too, with all the detergent and washing and drying that is required. Don't beat yourself up!

evilgiraffe · 28/11/2013 08:18

Oh, and still feeling crappy, driz, but HOTB is being very attentive :) Scan is the Monday after next, so will be about twelve and a half weeks. I'm eleven weeks today and a bit boggled as to where the time has gone...

MyNameIsWinkly · 28/11/2013 08:29

frank my smuggy mcsmugster SIL announced once "there's no excuse for anyone not to use disposables." She can fuck off and all.

She's the one who told me over the summer that I didn't know what being tired felt like. I was pregnant and had had 4 hours sleep off a night shift. I was FUCKING tired

The more I think about her the more rage I get.

KatAndKit · 28/11/2013 08:51

I could never be bothered with washable nappies. We have old, second hand white goods. An extra load a day might have broken the washing machine. That would not have been good for the environment either. Also i didn't fancy dealing with poo any more than necessary.

FrankelInFoal · 28/11/2013 10:07

Thanks all. I spoke with HWHNN about it and he basically said it was none of her business and our baby, our rules - with a few more expletives thrown in Wink

I usually get on well with my mum, bar a few, er, theological disagreements, so this one took me by surprise. I've also had to talk her out of buying a car seat for her car - they live 200 miles away so it's not as if she'll be taking Turnip out for a few hours Hmm If there is a need to use a car seat in her car then I'm going to be there, so we'll just put mine in her car. Think I need to talk to my dad and get him to talk her down a bit!

OP posts:
KatAndKit · 28/11/2013 10:13

Yeah its when she transforms her spare room into a nursery that you really need to worry!!

FrankelInFoal · 28/11/2013 10:15

Don't joke about things like that Kat she's already mentioned buying a travel cot to keep at their house Confused

OP posts:
KatAndKit · 28/11/2013 10:22

That's handy though, so long as she doesn't get too carried away. Depends how often you visit. My mum has one at hers (because we left it there, she didn't buy it) and it is one less thing we have to squeeze in the boot when we have already rammed a buggy in there and the kitchen sink too.

MyNameIsWinkly · 28/11/2013 10:26

My mum only lives 20 minutes from my sister but she has a travel cot for the odd overnight and babysitting. Actually my family has more baby stuff than kiddicare, all I'll ever need to bring is nappies I reckon.

KatAndKit · 28/11/2013 10:31

My mum usually even has nappies in! I would say all i need is his clothes but she has usually succumbed to the baby wear section of whatever supermarket she has been in.

FrankelInFoal · 28/11/2013 10:39

Oh I get the reasoning behind the travel cot, makes it one less thing to bring with us. At the moment we probably only make it to my parents 2/3 times a year and they come to us once or twice. I'm just thinking, knowing my mum, it could be a slippery slope.... Wink

OP posts:
MyNameIsWinkly · 28/11/2013 10:52

So long as she doesn't get a life doll made to look like your baby like those creepy women you get in Closer, and push it around calling it "turnip" (or whatever name you give her) you'll be alright :)

evilgiraffe · 28/11/2013 11:20

Eeeep, winks, that is a scary thought Shock

We've not had any of that sort of thing so far - my parents are being very good and abiding by requests not to talk about it in case something goes wrong in the first trimester. ILs are generally fine but keep managing to find something irritating to say, usually along the "thou shalt not" line regarding food/drink/activity. I'm not sure I'm doing too well at suppressing my Hmm face...

Oh, and the competitive tiredness nobbers can fuck right off. I have a friend like this; she keeps saying "you don't know what tiredness is" and "just wait, it only gets harder" as if (a) tiredness is a state which two people cannot experience at the same time for different reasons, and (b) she has any idea just how hard the last few years have been.

Keeping a travel cot at grandparents' houses seems like a good idea if you plan to stay over with any sort of regularity? It is at least one less thing to pack!
