Okay I don't like to run out of things, even threads, so here's the new one.

Can't remember who described their baby kicking like an octopus but it's very true :)

OP posts:

Awww cam - poor guy! It is mortifying! I've always thought it's not really possible to put your foot in mouth and call a non-preg pregnant until I saw a friend of a friend at a house party a few years ago. She'd been married a couple of years and was obviously very pregnant so I excitedly congratulated her - yeah, she wasn't pregnant! I was sooooo embarrassed!

Sassy lovely news on your scan Smile I bet it was lovely to see baby again. Fingers crossed your placenta moves up too. Eeyore - good luck on your trip it sounds like a nightmare. I hope some lovely Eurostar person takes pity on you and bungs you into first class with a free hot chocolate!

I'm not checked in to the premier inn and going to have a lovely bath. Workman arrived at 8 this morning and I had to bloody lug the remaining bits and bobs from lounge and dining room up stairs and to the basement. Poor DH had done most of it so it was only light stuff but I was bloody knackered by the end. Not moved that much in months! The cats were very displeased at having workmen in - one decided to go and be sick in the babies room where we are storing all the things from downstairs (and yes I mean on top of lots of things as she decided to be sick/rotate/be sick/rotate lol) Lovely!

Harlem I hope the GTT went okay an that there is good news (and that you are enjoying some cake after having to starve yourself!)

marzipanned · 26/11/2013 15:11

Sassy great news about the scan. I must admit I'm very envious of you getting such regular scans :)

Littleen I must say, I really like the advice your mw gave re movements. No movements in 24 hours = cause for concern is so much more precise than any change in pattern = cause for concern. I am going to try to adopt this policy as Norway has lower stillbirth rate than the UK... however, like winter, I completely lose it as soon as LO goes quiet!

Sugar yes! But that's classic NHS, right...I mean the whooping cough thing was even stranger. Also, I was reading a thread about people paying for private hospitals for childbirth and lots of posters coming back saying "well I got a private room and 3 days in hospital and one on one care with mw on the NHS"...which made me Envy but it such a postcode lottery!

Must admit I'm another one who doesn't offer seats unless it's bloody obvious. I did always appreciate those Baby on Board badges for avoidance of doubt. I've put on 22lbs, which includes making back the 12lbs or so I lost during first tri. But I actually don't feel that big. Must be the illusion of the lycra waistlines...

PS I have a question for the crochet-ters (I think there are a few of you, right?) What would be a lovely Christmas present for someone who has recently got back into crochet? Budget of about £20. Should I just get some lovely wools, or would a book of patterns or some smart hooks be nicer? What do you wish someone would give you this year? Thanks

gnittinggnome · 26/11/2013 16:13

marzipanned you can often get kits that include a nice pattern, the right yarn for it and the right hooks, which I generally think is quite nice, especially if the giftee has just started. John Lewis do some, but Google it and you'll get loads!

sunflowered · 26/11/2013 16:30

You could maybe get a book and the right yarn to make one of the projects in it if they've already got some of their own hooks etc? Prob better to match yarn to a specific thing than have some gorgeous wool sitting in a cupboard because you can't find a pattern to make with it like my cupboard full of impulse bought wool and duplicate knitting needles

sunflowered · 26/11/2013 16:32

Although thinking about it, I did get a book of novelty 'knit your own dog' patterns last year which is also gathering dust in the cupboard of shame. Maybe a kit is safer...

DawnOfTheDee · 26/11/2013 16:34

My mw sent me for a GTT due to the size of DD1 - I was also borderline for the BMI indicator.

I have no idea how much weight i've put on other than 'too much' Sad

I'm already trying to think of what i need to do when DD2 gets here so i can start losing it asap. It's silly really as i had a plan with DD1 but then because of EMCS couldn't do any exercise for weeks and weeks so got a bit depressed about it. Especially as this stupid cow of a doctor called me obese in a really obnoxious blunt fashion at my 6 week check....I could still only manage short walks at that point at snails pace. Grrrrrrr......

misskatamari · 26/11/2013 16:48

Marzi -
Do you know what they like to crochet? There are some fab amigurumi books if they like to make toys, or if they like making blankets then maybe a crochet blocks book. Hook wise I personally love these metal ones - they're inexpensive but the only thing I like to crochet with as it's so smooth. Every time I use a different type of hook I get so annoyed with them bit.ly/YcsBh6 - hope that link works, it's to a set of aluminium crochet hooks on eBay. All the sizes you could want all together. Ooooh I can't wait to do a bit of crochet this week Grin

misskatamari · 26/11/2013 16:49

crochet hooks link that might be better x

marzipanned · 26/11/2013 16:56

Ooh thanks all! Those colourful hooks are very pretty! It's for my auntie - she's in her 60s and doesn't have any grandkids so I assume she'd be doing blankets, hats, scarves...that type of thing. She used to do it ages ago so I'm guessing has some old hooks but just started over.
Hmm, sounds like a trip to John Lewis and a perusal of various books, yarns and hooks is in order...maybe try to assemble my own kit. Gosh this might inspire me to get knitting again, I picked up a blanket I started two years ago the other day and couldn't remember how to do it at all!

EeyoreIsh · 26/11/2013 17:04

I've stopped wearing my baby on board badge now I'm huge, maybe I should restart. I almost cried with gratitude when someone offered me their seat on the tube in my way back from Brussels last week.

I don't actually know what I weigh now, we don't have scales at home. I'll check when I go home to my parents this weekend.

missk enjoy the premierinn. I'm jealous of your breakfast and bath!

Just had a really long nap so I must catch up with work now Blush

EeyoreIsh · 26/11/2013 17:07

ooh, when can we start saying we're 7 months? I'm 30+2, so will I hit 7 months in a few days? Is so confusing.

sunflowered · 26/11/2013 17:18

I think it's about 31+1 so not long to go eeyore Smile

I'm a bit sad that some of you will hit the magic 9 months mark when I'm only just 8. Does the last person on the thread get a special prize to make up for the frustration of still being pregnant in mid March...? (have been reading that childbirth thread again - it has inspired me to make the most of the next 6 weeks while I can still move/drive/sort of sleep.

I've only just realised that by scrolling sideways on my app I can access all the other faces instead of having to guess or stick to happy/sad/angry! So Biscuit Wine and Thanks all round (Hmm ) I predict my bump is going to overtake me technologically at about 18 months...

notoneforselfies · 26/11/2013 17:21

I've only got one of the risk factors for GD - my after is type 2 diabetes, but mw has asked me to get GTT so off to have it at 32 weeks. Horrified by the thought of leaving the house with no tea.
The Boy has been a maniac octopus today. Had lunch with the pil and they could see my bump shaking and bits poking out from the other side of the table and I'm in a loose fitting(ish) top! I'm very close to being like that French woman! One thing (hand? Foot?) he keeps smashing into my hip which is quite uncomfortable. Also spooning DH last night, the boy kicked him so hard in the back it woke him up Grin I think I'm growing a beast.
Off to third antenatal class tonight. They don't finish until 9.30pm so I'm always struggling to stay awake until the end. Bit if bad planning there I think.

notoneforselfies · 26/11/2013 17:24

Eeyorish I do months as calendar months as weeks in a month varies so much. So my EDD is 7th Feb so I'll say I'm 7 months at 7th Dec. Tha'ts just my working out based on nothing though! Mostly I just stick to weeks.

marzipanned · 26/11/2013 17:24

Eeyore I do the months thing by actual dates. So I think for you it'd be December 2nd? I'm December 4th. Wow...two months to go. Yikes.

sunflowered there should indeed be a prize. Though if there is a positive side, it's that while we're up all night trying to get the little monsters latched on, you can waddle saunter off to a midday film screening and cake at a cafe afterwards..?

EeyoreIsh · 26/11/2013 17:25

Gah, I thought I would hit 7 months this week. I'll describe myself to eurostar as 7 months anyway to see if I get a proper seat, I'll only be a few days away, right!

I can't believe I've never realised I could scroll the emoticons across. I've wanted to put this Hmm in so many threads and have never worked out how Blush .

Time forBrew and Biscuit then Grin

Shropshiremummy2B · 26/11/2013 17:25

sunflowered if you get me for secret Santa feel free to knit me my dog.

Yes, I think a prize for the last to give birth is a good idea. I wonder if anyone will give birth on their due date?

marzipanned · 26/11/2013 17:37

Oh, that's just the way I do it Eeyore! Feel free to describe yourself as 7 months to anyone you wish :)

sunflowered · 26/11/2013 17:45

I think there's a lot of value in rounding up...already thinking of myself as nearly 7 months (edd 22 feb Blush )

By mid-march I'll be so bored i'll have knitted all of your little ones monsters their first pet. I might also have the 'knit a cat' book in that cupboard... shropshire remind me what dogs you've got... My parents are going to shrewsbury for a family new year do so they could even save me on postage!

sunflowered · 26/11/2013 17:48

Ps as my boss kindly pointed out, I've already moved from walking to waddling. I tried to pass it off as a limp but he just laughed. Angry . I consoled myself by remembering that I'm taller than him (I'm 5'3...)

misskatamari · 26/11/2013 17:50

I think I've been describing myself as 7 months for about a week now and I'm only 30+3 - wishful thinking that the end is in sight I think! ThanksBrewWineBiscuitEnvySadAngryBlushConfusedShockHmm Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!! Emoticons!!!

Sorry I just didn't know we could do that either.

Does anyone here know what the biscuit ones about? People always use it on mumsnet and it seems to be a sort of "shut up you're an idiot" type thing - but I never actually know!

marzipanned · 26/11/2013 17:56

Yep misskat, that's pretty much it! I think it's like - I can't even dignify this with a response Biscuit

I used to think it was a little flower Blush

winterflowers · 26/11/2013 18:22

Lol ladies I was super excited to hit six months, seven seems a distant dream. think I will be vying with sunflowered for the wooden spoon of childbirth Grin

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 26/11/2013 18:35

I assumed the biscuit was like 'you're really taking the biscuit' So yea pretty much what you thought!
