Make sure you have something to drink though. When I went for my scan at the EPAU the nurse I saw beforehand told me I had to have an empty bladder, so I did. Unfortunately that was if they were doing a transvaginal scan and then they did an external one. It was quite painful and not very clear because the sonographer had to press on so hard.

hamncheese · 02/11/2013 12:05

I think it depends on the scan equipment too as my first 12 weeks scans with DS didn't require a full bladder but boy did they pummel me. Mind you, I actually had tummy muscles then. This time they asked for a full bladder but I didn't drink anymore than usual cause pregnancy makes my bladder really irritated and needing to go hourly basically. They didn't say oh its not full or anything though. I wanted to enjoy the scan, not just sit there thinking how I needed to pee!

LittleBairn · 02/11/2013 12:15

My scan yesterday wasn't as clear as it could have been and yes she did pummel me (felt sore all day) but that was my fault I didn't drink early enough. I usually wait ages for the scan but was seen straight away, so miscalculated the time. You need to have drunk you pint within half an hour before the scan.

LittleBairn · 02/11/2013 12:16

I agree with ham you don't want to be so full you feel uncomfortable and can't enjoy the scan.

thistlelicker · 02/11/2013 12:35

Sorry for the tmi ... But I have a creamy type discharge today! Any ideas ?

Hendricks · 02/11/2013 12:39

The note that came with my scan appointment says to "attend with a moderately filled bladder if less than 13 weeks gestation". Not entirely sure how I'll tell if I'm moderately filled or not, but given I'll be 12+5 (by my dates) I think I've possibly got a bit more leeway!

Hope your daughter's okay CBeebies

Unless there's two hiding in there I'll be using the Mountain Buggy I got for #1. Wondering whether to send it off to get it fully serviced and made shiny new. Though TBH it'd only look new for a week or two once it starts being used!

Really cold out whilst I was teaching bootcamp this morning. On the plus side it does mean I stand a better chance of hiding the burdgeoning bump! And I can still do the exercises too - though not to the same intensity as I used to. Tomorrow I'm going out out (rather than just out locally), with some friends for an afternoon/ early evening. No drinkies for me, but as these are the ones who do know it's not an issue and it'll be really good to have a catch up and a natter.

Hope everyone has a great weekend

12+1

Hendricks · 02/11/2013 12:41

If it's just discharge (and no soreness/ itchiness) then I wouldn't worry too much about it thistle. IIRC discharge does increase during pregnancy (and is what's happened to me), but if you are concerned maybe have a chat with your MW/ GP.

mumof2aimingfor4 · 02/11/2013 13:28

thistle discharge after 11 weeks is normal as long as no odour or yellow. I think I read that its your body's natural way of avoiding infections by creating discharge. Isn't pregnancy lovely!

mumof2aimingfor4 · 02/11/2013 13:30

I love my phil and teds buggy as it has so many combinations, great off road as well as wandering round the shops. I have the doubles kit and newborn kit for mine. Great for anyone wanting two close together as it can be a single or double buggy. Expensive brand new but are very robust so check preloved for 2nd hand ones.

dobedobedo · 02/11/2013 14:24

I think we're going to get which membership for a month to scope out pram reviews and tests etc. If anyone has any questions for which, ask me! I'll probably sign up today.

Good day today. Bought a new car (new 208) because our current 13 year old banger will probably start falling apart soon, and when we returned home, we had the nt+ results back. Low risk! Grin they didn't specify a ratio, but I'm happy enough with low. The nuchal measurement was only 1.6.

LittleBairn · 02/11/2013 14:27

dobe oh that's a good idea. I would love to know what they say about the Stokke Xplory.
Great Nuchal results.

dobedobedo · 02/11/2013 14:40

Will let you know little. Also going to check out monitors, and whatever else they review! I think you can get a trial membership for a quid.

moominleigh94 · 02/11/2013 15:18

Is the nuchal included in the dating scan? I'm assuming mine was fine as I've not heard anything... or maybe they didn't check because of age? Hmm

OP posts:
LittleBairn · 02/11/2013 15:36

moomin yes it can be part of your dating scan but you need to opt in as not everyone wants it. It may be that your area don't do them there are still many regions that don't because the staff need to be special trained for it.

dobe thanks. Smile

dobedobedo · 02/11/2013 16:44

Moomin when I had my ds, I had to opt in for an nt+ as I was only 20 at the time and they only gave it as routine to mums over 30 in that area. It involves a blood test as well as measuring the fluid behind the baby's neck.
This time the midwife asked me at the booking if I wanted it, and being 30, I opted in. There's a small window to do the test in though. After 14 weeks it's a blood test only.

little the xplory is not a which "best buy" apparently. It's rattley, takes up a lot of room and the seat is on the small side.

The best seem to be uppababy cruz and vista, bugaboo chameleon, baby jogger and mamas and papas sola.

moominleigh94 · 02/11/2013 17:35

Ahh, thanks LittleBairn and dobe - makes sense. They said everything was fine with the baby so I'm not overly concerned :)

LittleBairn · 02/11/2013 18:00

dobe thanks for the info. I've heard they made the seat bigger on the newer model so I wouldn't be too worried about that. Plus I'm really mean from about 2-2.5 I start making kids walk everywhere. Grin

LittleBairn · 02/11/2013 18:09

I'm probably going to buy the Bugaboo anyway, stick with what you know. Plus I'm sucha shirt arse that a tall buggy probably won't be of much benefit. Blush

AliOh · 02/11/2013 18:10

moomin I think in most of wales they don't do nuchal test at the dating scan, they do a quadruple blood test at 16 weeks instead or so I'm told :)

Xavielli · 02/11/2013 18:26

I think I'm going to get an Oyster max. Going to need a double for the school run at least (will be 4x a day by the time this one arrives) blinkin' expensive though, going to put it on the mothercare baby plan.

dobedobedo · 02/11/2013 18:31

little I'm wavering between bugaboo and one of the uppababy ones. I don't need an off roader, living in suburbia as I do, but I'm hoping to clock up the miles with it after the baby is born to help with losing weight/warding off pnd. I figure that in the summer it will be too hot to babywear and walk far for exercise at the same time.

hamncheese · 02/11/2013 19:07

I have a baby jogger summit xc. I rarely use it now as I just carry him and he's walking mostly but when I did it was AMAZING. pros: so comfy for pushing and for baby, has amazing suspension so v good for bumping up nd down steps and amazing off road and for well... Running. Cons: not the smallest, a little wider than most. That said I would happily take it round the shops without a worry and it fits in the back seat of the car (though not our tiny boot)

LittleBairn · 02/11/2013 21:17

dode that's my exact reason for wanting a buggy when I hope to be able to baby wear lots too. I know I will get really hot and sweaty in the summer so I don't want to feel uncomfortable. Plus its a good way to exercise.

One thing I've been wondering about babywearing is what do you do with all the baby paraphernalia when out?
I know Ergo do a backpack but I'm not sure I could manage than when out especially all day when I don't drive.

ham I've heard very good things about the baby jogger no one ever seems to say a bad word about them.

moominleigh94 · 02/11/2013 22:05

I found a travel system in Babies'R'Us - think it's Joie Aire, a red one called Ladybug - for £99 so that might be the one I go for :) looks like a good set. Will be going to have a proper look when we go back and pick up the cot at the end of the month.

dobedobedo · 03/11/2013 01:28

little I wondered about this too. I guess the minimum you can go out with is a couple of nappies, wipes and a change of clothes. That could fit in a smallish handbag so wouldn't be too much to carry. Or else I could just load dh up like a pack mule Grin
