Is anybody considering a early sexing scan???

Flixy102 · 30/10/2013 21:43

Definitely considered it thistle but decided to wait it out to the 20 week scan.

LittleBairn · 30/10/2013 21:57

hendricks I have found its becoming more common to have a 3/4 year age gap, it seems due to cost of childcare its more manageable with only one needing full time care.
I've nannied kids with much larger age gaps its always worked out well.

loopylou52 · 30/10/2013 21:57

At the moment we're thinking we won't find out the sex, but if we do decide to find out I guess we'll just wait for the 20 week scan.

moomin I wish I knew more about this stuff but I don't I'm afraid! I did notice there's a money section on here so that might help re what you're entitled to. Probably makes sense not to mention the hamster to start with. I'd have thought most places which say no to pets probably wouldn't object to a hamster.

dobedobedo · 31/10/2013 05:42

Moomin maybe speak to your university, student liaison or whatever it is. They do offer extra support (or they did when I was your age) to mums.

We are waiting for the 20 week scan to find out the sex. I'll be 20 weeks on Xmas week so hopefully I can still get my scan before Xmas.

Talking of age gaps,by the time this baby comes, I'll have a nine year age gap between him or her and ds! After ds was born, his dad and I tried to for two years to have another but we were unsuccessful for some reason.
Since then, we split up, years passed and I didn't want any more. Ds was enough for me. But then dh comes along with his birthday sex and jager bomb fueled party and voila. I'm pregnant. Grin he's always wanted a baby though. I was never bothered.

Of course now I'm ecstatic to be having one! I feel like, because ds is so much older, it's like this baby has two and a half parents. Ds is so sensitive and broody, he'll be a brilliant help. And my little brother is ten years younger than me and we are a lot closer than my sister and I, with just a two year gap.

hamncheese · 31/10/2013 06:17

Me too moomin and littlebairn last time we bought stuff the afternoon after the scan couldn't wait. My buying is to be curbed this time though, however I have splurged on a new wrap (sling) for the new baby already (double rainbow blue for any fellow sling geeks) then tried DS in it and he promptly threw up on it so its waiting on a wash already, things to come and all that! Also need some new more cloth nappies as DS will still be in them. Anyone who wants any sling and cloth nappy advice in the future feel free to ask me (limited, but experience nonetheless!) IMO a sling is the one thing I could not have been without in the early days!

Happy Halloween all Halloween Smile hope you have a nice time eating leftover sweets for guisers if the ms allows

dobedobedo · 31/10/2013 06:27

Hamncheese I really want to get a sling, not sure which one to get though. Might track down a sling library to have a look. Would welcome any advice though.

We haven't bought much yet. After the scan I had to go back to work, but dh had the afternoon off so he went to mother care and bought some new born onesies and a baby record book. Bless him.
We are hoping to get a lot of stuff in the January sales!

Xavielli · 31/10/2013 06:40

I borrowed a moby wrap and loved it, so being a cheap skate I bought 5 metres of cotton jersey and cut it myself. Worked a charm and perfect for newborn feeding on the svhool run :) then I (again, cheap skate) sewed myself a mei tai. I'd love to be able to afford a sling addiction, it would be so easy hehe.

That said I do also have a buggy addiction...

Xavielli · 31/10/2013 06:41

dobe My eldest will be 9 when this one comes along. Older siblings are wonderful for fetching nappies and snacks :)

mumof2aimingfor4 · 31/10/2013 06:58

xav my eldest is 9 and definitely agree that they are very handy ;) even though im hiding my belly with baggy jumpers she has been on at me and DP all week to have another baby, preferably a brother! Do you think she knows Hmm

Flixy102 · 31/10/2013 08:57

My DSD will be 16 when this baby is born, DH says it's going to be like being a first time father again as its such a big gap! (And I think he was a bit crap the first time round with changing nappies etc)

moobaloo · 31/10/2013 09:40

Wish I could start buying stuff!! But no space Sad DCs room is currently DPs office and not sure how we're going to work out sharing the space in our tiny little home so everyone fits in ok!!

Was very excited that DP seemed interested in babby yesterday by, after I'd mentioned moses baskets, saying why couldn't the baby sleep in our room for a few months? I was quite surprised as I didn't think he'd want that at all, but I said that does seem to be the advice, to have the baby in your room and it's easier for feeding at night etc. so we could do that. Then I realised he was just hoping this meant it kept it out of "his" office for longer! Hmm

to those who said last week that it gets faster after 10 weeks - you were right! Nearly 11 weeks now, just 2 weeks till scan and soo excited!

FrightFlea · 31/10/2013 10:15

I made my slings too (another cheapskate here). I started with pouch slings. They are great for when you're popping in and out of the car. Then made a mei tai when she got to big for the pouch. Made a ring sling for dd2 but never got the hang of it when she was a newborn. Fine when she was over 3 months though.
Have a baby bjorn too but wouldn't keep dds in it for longer than 20 mins as it's not supposed to be great for their hips. I wish I had bought a different soft carrier instead. Marketing caught me!

I like the idea of the self made Moby Xav. That may be the project for DC3

hamncheese · 31/10/2013 11:25

Stretchy wrap like moby is fab for newborn. DS was not a good sleeper but would always nod off on minutes in the moby. On Facebook there are slings for sale or trade pages which tend to have mobys or other stretchy wraps like them for £15 which is probs as cheap as buying the fabric.

We graduated to woven wraps too as loved the comfort of it. It seems like a faff but it is worth it in terms of comfort for sure. However also love a mei tai for convenience :)

Just avoid the baby bjorn and other ones where the baby's legs and bum aren't in an M shape (knees higher than hips) in them as they are not good for their hips. Also facing outward is very bad for their spines. Tbh I have no idea why they are allowed to sell them...

Woohoo slings!

hamncheese · 31/10/2013 11:26

Ps didn't mean to suggest making your own was no good, just that preloved is a good option for those not up for making. I made my wrap conversion mei tai :D

NannyPlumForPM · 31/10/2013 12:46

Gosh you really are sling geeks Halloween Wink - never really bothered myself but it was bloody freezing when DD came along.

Ideally I wanted a small age gap (maybe 1.5-2 years) but have ended up with a 3.8 gap - which I now think is brilliant! DD is finally settled in her own bed, doesn't have a bottle any more and is out of pushchairs etc and sleeps a blissful 8:30pm-9am.

Oh why did I want another to come and wake me up?! Wink

LongTailedTit · 31/10/2013 13:05

Oooh sling chat! I'll have to come back to read it later, def want a stretchy one for DC2, only had a BabaSling for DS when he was small and had no idea how rubbish it was. He still goes in our Ergo, but I can't wear it anymore, bump in the way!

Having a faff at the moment, TinyTit wouldn't cooperate at the 12wk scan so they couldn't do the nuchal measurement, I was told to contact my midwife to get a blood test done instead. Would if I could... I can't get hold of her at all!
She hasn't returned my calls, or responded to a message left at the Docs even tho I know she was in twice this week, and the community midwives office never answer the bloody phone. Bit pissed off now, as the test has to be done next week - apparently there is a v small window of opportunity.
Grrrr argh!!

Xavielli · 31/10/2013 13:32

20 week scan date arrived :) 19th December

snoozysleeper · 31/10/2013 13:36

longtailed have you left answer phone message on community midwives' phone? Make sure you state the time limit. They should call you back the next day then

Failing that if it's a blood test, speak to your gp and he/she may be able to arrange one or directly liaise with the midwife themselves

snoozysleeper · 31/10/2013 13:37

A nice early Xmas present xav Smile

Spirael · 31/10/2013 13:43

I'd just contact your doctors surgery, LongTailedTit. Get a regular nurse appointment for a blood test and tell him/her what it's for. They'll all be sent to the same lab, so it just needs marking up appropriately.

First scan this afternoon. I'm not nervous. No, not at all. Confused I just hope there's something there. I'm going to feel pretty stupid if they look at me with a Hmm expression and say "There's nothing there but your blubber..."!

randdom · 31/10/2013 14:49

10 weeks today and for the first time In over a month I feel human. Nausea is still there but much improved. I don't know if this is just today or whether it is the start of things improving. But I will take anything at the moment!

LongTailedTit · 31/10/2013 15:10

snoozy & Spirael

I left voicemail for the midwife with the time frame, and the community midwives office doesn't have an answer phone! Daft.

The docs receptionist is trying to sort it out for me at the moment, she said she'll contact them herself today. If she has no joy I'll ask for the blood test to be arranged thru my GP - good plan, thanks!

In other news, my new fancy-pants phone arrived so if you see utter gibberish on here from me it'll be my first attempts at MNing on a phone!

LongTailedTit · 31/10/2013 15:12

Ps good luck for your scan this after own Spirael! :)

JuniorMint · 31/10/2013 16:26

Hi all, well I've been for my 12 week scan today! All went really well-phew! I had my pint of water an hour beforehand so was desperate for the loo while we were sitting in the waiting room! Baby started off asleep I think- was staying still and facing downwards towards my bottom, but you could see the heart beat. Then the sonographer gave a prod and baby became very active- turning over, kicking legs, turning face towards the scanner and putting hands up to face! I had myself down as 12+1 but scan measured as 12+3, so not too far out. I got 11 pictures! Paid for 6 (!) but she just kept printing them until we got 6 better quality ones. Afterwards DH and I went into town and bought the first few bits a pieces- teddy, tiny Adidas trainers/booties, adorable bodysuit- lovely day Smile
