Yes Moomin you definitely did the right thing getting an urgent appointment. You can't be expected to be in that level of pain/uncomfortableness for a week!!

Hamncheese your little boy is gorgeous. How old is he now? Loved his outfit. I've said to DH we are to casually tell people now that we don't like bright baby clothes, I don't want masses of blue stuff just as I don't want masses of pink if it's a girl. Irrelevant of what it is I want nice neutral and pastel colours. He thought I was being harsh but I already mentioned it to his mum and she was fine about it.

Yikes I can't believe you know the gender. I'm 90% sure that I know I'm having a boy following my and the forums nub spotting, but their bits look so similar at this stage. Was it you NHS sonographer who told you it was a boy?

mumof2aimingfor4 · 25/10/2013 09:13

I didnt have it last time when carrying dd2 when the swine flu was in full force. I didn't get ill. I can't convince myself to do it.

Squiffie · 25/10/2013 09:19

I'm not having it either mumof2

mumof2aimingfor4 · 25/10/2013 09:20

moomin do you drink much water? Its really important that you do especially as pregnancy progresses. I know its a pain in the ass with having to get up during night to pee but our kidneys will be doing overtime trying to filter everything we and our babies produce. Please dont take that as me telling you what to do Cake

wm3010 · 25/10/2013 09:20

Morning all - moomin, you are definitely doing the right thing, best to get checked out particularly as you have had a previous infection which went to your kidneys. I've only had that once and it wasn't as bad as yours but I don't ever want to repeat it if I can avoid it!

12+1 today and feeling marginally better. Crossing fingers ms is on its way out although that might be wishful thinking.

Scan on Monday, I am excited but also scared. Hope everything is ok.

I can picture myself with a girl more easily although I'm sure if it's a boy I will be delighted too. We will definitely find out if we can as like to be prepared although going to try to avoid gendered clothes as much as possible. My mum always says she likes little babies to be dressed in white/cream which I guess is traditional from when you couldn't know in advance and it does also avoid the pink/blue explosion!

LittleBairn · 25/10/2013 09:37

moomin yes you did the right thing you really need to see the Dr. I agree ith drinking plenty I knw it's painful to wee but it will help.

We won't be finding out the Gender, it's something DH is very against and one of the few things he's ever asked of me during pregnacy so I'm agreeing too it.

mumof2 I won't be having the Flu either. It was rushed out too quickly for pregnant woman IMO without proper research I'm not planning on being a test case. I can understand why people would of they had compromised health but not for ordinary healthy people.

wm3010 · 25/10/2013 10:06

I'm having the flu jab, the potential complications of flu seem like too big a risk to take - with my dh being in the medical sphere I am much more aware of that sort of thing. Although I've never had flu myself my dh had it once and I wouldn't wish it on anyone but the really worrying thing is potential complications such as pneumonia which often sees normal healthy people in intensive care never mind pregnant ladies! They have been using the flu jab for a long time worldwide on pregnant women with no serious side effects so I'll be getting mine tomorrow. It's quite a personal thing though.

bluestone85 · 25/10/2013 10:15

Moomin, you definitely did the right thing, you definitely can't wait a week to see a doctor!

Is anyone else who hasn't had a scan feeling like they may have made up there being a baby in there? I feel like this every now and again and that when I go for a scan there isn't going to be anything in there. I think it doesn't help that I haven't had that many symptoms (apart from spots, tiredness and occassional nausea).

Sorry, just on a downer today probably due to me feeling exhausted.

wm3010 · 25/10/2013 10:17

bluestone Yes I have had plenty tiredness and nausea but still have a slight fear they are just going to tell me the mini-bump is down to eating too much over the last 8 weeks when I get my scan! Sorry to hear you're feeling down, that feeling itself is probably a symptom you know. Cake Hope you feel better soon

mumof2aimingfor4 · 25/10/2013 10:23

LittleBairn im in the same thought process as you I dont have any health complications either and (touch wood) seldom get ill. Im not going to give my 3 year old the fluenz vaccine either and dp supports my decisions.

impatientlywaiting · 25/10/2013 10:31

Bluestone I felt exactly the same way before my first scan. Genuinely a bit scared I'd made it all up. Had 3 scans now though so that feeling has gone away.

moominleigh94 · 25/10/2013 10:52

Thanks everyone. Went to the doctors, confirmed an infection and blood in my wee so on better antibiotics now. Worth going :) also booked my 16 week appointment with midwife :)

hamncheese · 25/10/2013 10:55

Thanks impatiently he's almost 15 months now, can't believe that little baby is the same boy you know! I know what you mean about the clothes, it feels mean to say to nice people giving gifts that you want or don't want x y z, but is it more rude to just return it all? Who knows. Hopefully the gifts will be fewer now its number two, we got sooooo much for DS I felt so bad about all these things for free!

I didn't get the flu jab with DS and I'm not this time. Don't know why really. Considering I've already had the flu whilst in the throes of morning sickness there seems little point now!

bluestone85 · 25/10/2013 10:57

Thanks wm and impatiently - glad to know I'm not alone in this feeling :) Have to wait just over a week for scan, to show that I'm not crazy! Just had cake, so feeling slightly better :) xx

bluestone85 · 25/10/2013 11:00

I had my flu jab last weekend.

Will be finding out the sex too. I have a feeling its a boy, but I'm happy whatever we have, so long as they are healthy. I'm the same, I'm not a very pink person, so if I do have a girl, they will not be covered head to toe in pink! xx

NannyPlumForPM · 25/10/2013 11:21

Phew! Just got to the end of all your chatter - 6 pages Shock

dobedo impatiently had it right, consultant wants to know the sex because I've got a dodgy X chromosome - if it's a boy it'll have a 50/50 chance of surviving, which is still good odds :)

Have decided against doing a CVS or Amnio - spoke to midwife and the chance of miscarriage due to the test is 2/100 and 1/100 respectively and then I wouldn't know what to do with the information anyhow! Obviously if its a boy with the condition he'll miscarry anyway but if it's a girl then she'll either be fine or have the mild condiiton (like DD) or be severely neurologically damaged Hmm What will be will be!

I'm definitely finding out the sex though Wink And I am a little Blush but I live in a house full of baby pink, bright pink, sparkles and glitter and a massive tub of blue lego, cars/garage and dinosaurs

I actually don't care which flavour mine is - a little girl would make a pair of sisters and a little boy would be one of each so either is nice! I could really do with FX for a healthy one though. That's enough of a surprise at 40 weeks for me Grin

Hows Tiny moomin ? and waves and hugs to everyone I've missed V jealous yikes that you know gender already Envy

snoozysleeper · 25/10/2013 11:27

moomin I'm glad you're on better antibiotics, hopefully you start feeling better soon Smile

I've had my flu jab and pleased I did. I appreciate this is a personal decision. However, for anyone undecided I recommend discussing this with your gp/health care professional as they can give you the facts and reference the research that is being used.

impatientlywaiting · 25/10/2013 11:37

Wow Nanny, you seem to have a brilliant outlook on things. What will be will be, makes so much sense but didn't stop me from occasionally acting unhinged with anxiousness pre-scans, so I really admire your outlook.

Everything crossed for you that you have the healthiest of babies in May next year.

Haha to your houseful of pink sparkly things. Despite my protestations I wouldn't be surprised if I end up changing my mind completely and have a houseful of pink or blue things before this baby arrives. Especially for when the baby starts going out, I can imagine a hairless girl in neutral clothes will be mistaken for a boy fairly often by chatty strangers.

Spirael · 25/10/2013 11:46

Morning all! Ugh, nausea is ramping up here. But then I'm 9 weeks tomorrow so it's hopefully reaching the peak around now and will start to fade again soon. Still feel like crying with relief that I don't have to drag myself to work and pretend all is fine, but can instead crash on the sofa with a bucket!!

I'm not planning on having more children after this one, but despite having a DD already I genuinely don't mind whether it's a boy or a girl. :) A boy would be nice and balance things out, as well as match in nicely as both DH and I have one sibling of the other gender. On the other hand, having two girls is supposed to be the most harmonious family unit and no girl has ever had a sister on my side of the family for three generations, so there'll be a lot of novelty there.

Not at all a pink fan here either and only allow limited amounts of it into the house. DD however professes to like pink and sparkles (gah) but is still at an age where I can manipulate what she wears. She also likes her Thomas the Tank Engine PJs, after all! And she's equally as happy doing Octonauts jigsaws or playing with Brio as she is playing with her doll.

She requested a cat costume for Halloween, which is fine by me and much better than a princess or similar!

We're going to have a gender scan, mostly so we can manage DD's expectations as I anticipate people will be asking her "Would you prefer a brother or a sister?" like she has some kind of choice in the matter. If we've primed her beforehand which one she's getting, then there are likely to be less tantrums if she doesn't get what she wants!

Currently trying to decide whether to have the gender scan at 16 weeks, right before Christmas, or wait until after Christmas. They're still pretty certain at 16 weeks, especially with a private 4D scan, right?

Glad you got everything sorted out, Moomin! I always think the emergency appointments at doctors surgeries are badly named... If I had an emergency, I'd be going to A&E, not ringing my doctors surgery!

LittleBairn · 25/10/2013 11:52

mumof2 I agree on the kids flu jab it's insane especially when they have already admitted it doesn't really benefit the kids (very few healthy kids ever get the flu!) but society as a whole. That isn't worth compromising my own child's health.

I would also say while it's worth talking to health professionals they are biased. Read independant research in particular the American research.

I've had really server flu before but I'm willing to take the risk and the responsbilty for it.

Nanny I will keep my FX for you. I'm impressed with your attitude I could do with some of that, I have an 85% chance of having this baby survive I get upset at my missing 15% but I really should be more greatful.

imaptiently my sister was completely bald until the age of 3 even dressed in pink my mum says she was always mistaken for a boy. Grin

LittleBairn · 25/10/2013 11:58

spireal I'm not sure how accurate it would be at 16 weeks, I k ow some super high tech scans scan see ovaries quite early on.
But sex organ wise it can be hard to tell. My DS was delivered at 16 weeks even thought he had clear male anatomy we still had to wait for DNA testing to confirm because at that stage the sex organs look quite alike.

I agree I so frustrating when people question children on what they want, talk about setting them up for disappointment.

Spirael · 25/10/2013 12:02

I'm getting my flu jab tomorrow. DD had the nasal flu vac several weeks ago and DH is having the flu jab via is work next week. So we'll all be vaccinated here!

I completely respect everyone's right to make their own decision regarding vaccinations. In our case, we're all luckily very healthy and unlikely to be harmed by the vac, but we live in a small town with a large retired population.

When not off sick, I travel on public transport and DD is at nursery, so prime ground for picking up flu from someone. Last thing I'd want to do is then pass that on to one of the old dears. They'll be someones grandma or grandad, after all.

Also, the advantage of me having the vac tomorrow is that DD can come with me and watch me having the injection and not batting an eye. I have no fear of needles, usually I'm a blood donor. Wink

She's got her preschool boosters coming up in the next month or two, and hopefully seeing me utterly unbothered by having a needle stuck in my arm will help her to not fear injections!

AliOh · 25/10/2013 12:05

hamncheese your DS is a beaut! I'd take the headaches over ms anyday tbh I suffer with them quite alot anyway so tend to just grin and bear it!

moomin you definately did the right thing! You need to look after yourself :)

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 25/10/2013 12:05

Moomin I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it and I'm not trying to scare oh in any way but uti's in pregnant women are very serious. If left untreated or unresolved they can cause miscarriage and later on prem labour.
You've done exactly the right thing. It's actually part of the reason dd2's labour kicked off at 31 weeks. I personally after going through that would say it's absolutely an emergency

impatientlywaiting · 25/10/2013 12:16

LittleBairn, so sorry for your loss, that sounds heartbreaking.

Spireal we are having a gender scan at 16 weeks. Booked for exactly 16 weeks by my dates, and I'll be 16+3 based on my scan. Booked with babybond whose website says they have a 99% success rate (but that could be marketing spiel). My only experience is my sister who had a gender scan at the same place I am going at 16 weeks and they were right with her.
