February 2014. The cake mix is in the mug, the microwave is on, it's slowly rising and we'll be pinging in three more months!

Sadly my cake mix is rising too much and resulting in a serious muffin top.

Gnitting please don't be so hard on yourself. I've been chowing down on chocolate like a demon lately so it could happen to any of us. My cousin developed GD and she was slim, fit and healthy - although she did get heavily into baking during her pregnancy I suppose! But anyway, she was monitored and they ended up inducing her and she has the most gorgeous baby girl who was clearly in no way affected by the GD. You definitely haven't let the little bean down.

So, yet another middle-aged lady has just given me the 'how long have you got left?' (me: 'I'm due in Feb') Her: 'Oh....big bump!' treatment. Gaaaah!

Sassy20 · 07/11/2013 15:52

Gnitting - don't blame yourself. My friend developed gd in her last pregnancy and she has a beautiful daughter now. She didn't eat anything particularly bad and it was just one of those things. I are loads of chocolate when pregnant with dd and didn't get it. X

Phew - bump seems to have woken up after cake and a glass of milk and a long lie down. Now to go back to the work I was meant to be doing all afternoon... (I'm quite tempted to stay lying down but it's not going to go away!)

EeyoreIsh · 07/11/2013 17:11

gnitting don't be hard on yourself. GD is just one of those things, I understood it was about how your body reacted to the pregnancy rather than caused by behaviours etc. Flowers

I checked about when my bloods were needed for anti d, and they said they only needed 30 minutes. But I could have the bloods done on advance if that's easier. everything is different in each area I guess!

I'm a bit excited, I finally found a pregnancy yoga class in my area, and it's tonight. I'd left a message to see if there was space for tonight, and the yoga lady just called to say there is Smile it's 90 mins long though, I hope 30 mins of that is relaxing at the end! I've just eaten two bits of toast so I hope it's not too energetic Envy Grin I can also pay week by week which is fab and it'll be difficult for me to make Thursdays, but I figure I can start now and commit fully once I'm on ML.

No movement from my boss but that's fine, I'm going to start plan B... Grin

winterflowers · 07/11/2013 17:11

Sorry to hear about the GD gnitting but I will echo what everyone else has said, it's the fact that you've had it identified and can act on it now that is important. It's nothing you can do about it and definitely don't beat yourself up. Thanks

marzipanned · 07/11/2013 17:15

Eeyore mine is 2 hours, that's one hour of yoga and one hour of chatting/birth stories/relaxation/breathing. And the yoga itself is veeeeery chilled. I wouldn't worry, enjoy!

EeyoreIsh · 07/11/2013 17:28

That sounds perfect marzipan. I'm all dressed and ready to go! I don't fit into my pre pregnancy pilates gear though so I'm dressed in a hilarious combo of too large pregnancy leggings, a normal top and DH's huge sweatshirt. I wouldn't be surprised if the leggings fall down mid position Grin

Julietee · 07/11/2013 17:28

Gnitting Absolutely don't blame yourself for the GD - the diet thing is a control measure once you have it, not a preventative measure! You didn't give it to yourself, it's quite common according to wikipedia and not being able to handle sugar is a symptom rather than a cause iyswim.
(Actually, I'm quite cross not to be having the test as I have PCOS and my mum has type 2 and had GD when she was pregnant. I was told at my 24 week appt that they don't go looking for trouble unless I have elevated wee glucose levels. Hmm.)

Thanks for all the interesting foetal wee stuff, everyone! :D

Petty Apparently they lick the walls of the uterus and placenta, too! Little wall licking, wee drinking goblins!

Somany I'm stuck at home working very part time and I'm bored as hell. Sympathies. Sorry you didn't get a look in for the library job. If it's any consolation I've had trouble getting frickin coffee shop jobs before I got pg. There's so much competition these days. I want to do a woodwork course and make bespoke dolls houses!

Julietee · 07/11/2013 17:31

(And I am not the kind of person you want working in a service facing job because I'm awkward and I won't stand for being told when I can and can't drink and sit down, which is an angry-making part of working retail type jobs)

misskatamari · 07/11/2013 17:33

Gnitting sorry to hear about the GD. It really is just one of those things though so don't beat yourself up about it. As others have said at least you know early on and can manage it.

I've had a letter from the docs about whooping cough vaccine through yesterday - but I think the midwife just gives it me at my 28 week appointment anyway from what she's said.

Ooooh work are interviewing for my maternity cover tomorrow - fingers crossed we get someone decent who can manage my tricky classes!

Oh my god - I got up this morning and told DH I had sore boobs and he informed me "yeah I think they were leaking on my in the night" WHAT?!? Not loads obviously but he said it was a bit wet in bed at about boob level (too low for it to be my mammoth drooling!) bloody weird.

Going to look round the midwife led unit at the hospital tonight - so can't be arsed and just want to get in bed but we've not looked round yet so feel like I should as I'm 28 weeks on sat and want to be able to talk to he MW next week about our plans etc (home/birth centre). I'm thinking maybe centre now tho since I realised our loo is upstairs. I can barely face climbing the stairs to it now never mind whilst in labour! Grin

Littleen · 07/11/2013 19:49

I seemed to have missed a whole load of posts when I posted about amniotic fluid earlier! Was rather confused now looking for my post again O.o

naw gnitting sorry to hear you got GD :( I'm in the dangerzone too, so trying to be more careful with the daily chocolates! Good they found it so early though, don't be too hard on yourself :) It's just one of those things that can happen, and I'm sure the little one will be okay, even if a little bit bigger :)

Went to mw today - all is well. I had my weeks messed up, thought I was 23+4, but am 24+4! Which is good really, but I feel a little embarrassed I lost track of it. Cue making reminders on my phone every sunday, to which week I am in!
She also said that if I hadn't felt movement for a whole day, by the time I go to bed, I should phone the birthing unit at hospital and go in for a check. So no counting kicks every few hours etc, just paying (close) attention. Got to say I feel a bit scared of the pressure!

On a good note, I'm doing this online architecture course at Oxford Uni, which I am totally blagging - but got super feedback on my first assignment! Perhaps there is hope after all :D

misskatamari · 07/11/2013 20:06

Awww that's great news about the weeks Littleen and the course feedback :)

I'm crap at remembering my weeks too but downloaded a baby centre app which tells me so I just look at that. Baby brain and counting weeks/days do not go hand in hand.

EeyoreIsh · 07/11/2013 20:10

littleen online architecture course sounds amazing!

pregnancy yoga was fab Smile very chilled. And I met two girls who are about to give birth and live v near me, and who've just moved to the area.

I'm really inclined to stop work at the end of the month. my thinking is a combination of rib pain+4 hour commute, problems over leave and being asked/forced to work overtime the last weekend of November. I'm going to phone hr tmw and ask if I can change my plans and what will happen to my leave. Will I be crazily bored though?

misskatamari · 07/11/2013 20:15

Do your think you could get signed off instead Eeyore? To avoid using up your maternity leave? I know it's a bit cheeky but your boss is being a total dick and it's ridiculous the amount they are expecting you to work!

EeyoreIsh · 07/11/2013 20:48

Thanks both. I know my doc would sign me off if I asked, he's already offered. I'll talk to hr tomorrow and see what they say. I want to leave work in a controlled and organised way, but I suspect that's not going to happen now.

misskatamari · 07/11/2013 21:05

Totally agree with champagne. I'll keep my fingers crossed HR can help sort it out. Your boss is being a total dick. If your doc will sign you off that's fab. You shouldn't have to start leave early because work is being totally unreasonable x

Just caught up on at least two days posts. Sorry tonhear if the emotions, illnesses and pleased to hear about mw appts, maternity leave dates and all the other news. gnitting I eat a sugar mountain every day and I don't have gd so don't blame yourself.

somamy thanks for asking. It was Monday I went to the docs but only had the bloods done today and she said it'll be next weds before they are back. So that'll be 9 days from going to the gp. I'm still itchy but not as bad so doubt it's oc. I think it's hormonal.

Had loads of other things I wanted to comment on but now can't remember what they were!

gnittinggnome · 07/11/2013 21:21

Thanks all, I've calmed down a bit now and am trying to address it rationally, which is helping. Plus DH has bought me a bag of walnuts to distract me whilst he chucks out the giant duty-free Toblerones, which would normally be a high-risk activity for him. I'm sure it will be ok, and I guess this is the perfect opportunity to develop healthy, non-sucrose-based eating habits!

Eeyoreish it sounds like your boss hasn't really absorbed the fact that as a pregnant woman you have rights, and stuff - hope HR will step in and put him straight. Plus I don't think GPs would offer to sign you off willy-nilly, so if the offer is there, definitely go for it.

missK oh wow to the leaking boobs - I guess we've all got that to come! At least he seems to be taking it with good grace...

Julietee · 07/11/2013 21:25

Littleen That sounds great! Can you do it whenever you want or is it attached to term times?

barebranches · 07/11/2013 21:58

playing my bump some classical music! i can feel her brain growing! Grin
