Oh and don't get me started on all the 'in my day' crap. That drives me mad, in their day they did the same as we do now.....followed the advice of their midwife and healthcare professionals! Just because the advice has changed now they think it's our fault.

Alexandra6 · 31/10/2013 15:15

The other day, I was told by a relative trying to be helpful that babies need to be moved out of your bedroom within a couple of months and I'm making a big mistake if I keep the baby in longer. I've also been told by someone else that it needs to be around 6 weeks, as if they know better than NHS recommendations, fact. I love advice but not being told what's best as if it's a fact - I've decided my strategy is take it on board, nod and then do what I plan to do regardless and learn on the job!

Had my 36 week midwife app this morning and baby is head down and in position for exit! Grin

Ah, forgot to tell you about Viki's last name, as you might remember, the hospital messed up and didn't give us a form to fill in, so instead of Myname DHname, he is just DHname.

In France, you have to register the name in 3 days. On 3rd day DH went to check if they got the application and everything is ok, and discovered the issue with the name. The registry official did a great impression of Little Britain's "Computer says NO" sketch.

Both her and the hospital said that we have to write to the local court and they will fix the issue, no problem. Well guess what - the local court wrote back and said that tough luck, they can't do anything, you should have filled in the form 3 days after birth. But you can write to the next instance.

Grr. Apparently 27% of our taxes here go for the upkeep of this chocolate teapot administration.

So will try next instance to fix the mistake and luckily I have another move up my sleeve - even the civil code allows name changes if the name is otherwise dying out, and there are only 6 people with my last name left in Estonia, plus me. That should be dying enough for them.

Cavort · 31/10/2013 15:26

Funny you should say that Lol as I also did a dream feed last night at 22.30 and then was also treated to the pleasure of spending 03.30-05.15 awake. Angry I don't usually bother as they don't seem to work for us, but I accidentally disturbed her when I was going to bed so that will teach me!

Janey if you only get an eater or a sleeper then I most definitely have the former and today my eyes are like piss holes in snow just to prove it. She is a champion eater though. Not tried any formula yet, but breast or bottle she guzzles the lot. I think I would swap for a sleeper though as not only am I constantly knackered at the moment, but she's so heavy now my arms start to hurt after holding her for a while. I will start to look like a bodybuilder soon. The grass is always greener... Very strange that babies just suddenly decide they don't like a bottle. Confused

She's still wobbly but Elodie is pretty much sitting up on her own, which is fine, but she also likes to push up on her legs into a standing position. She can't quite take the weight but is not far off (but obviously is nowhere near having the necessary balance). Does anyone have any idea if it is bad for baby's legs if they try to stand too early? Is anyone else's babies doing this? Dr Google doesn't seem to say either way. I don't want her to have bowed legs. Confused

Mother by the time baby shows up I dare to say you will have been driven mad by many more people. Grin

cav am I going to be a crazy woman rocking quietly in the corner?? makes note to clean all corners of the house so they are comfy for when I need them Wink

Cavort · 31/10/2013 15:48

Mother I found in the last few weeks my fuse got shorter by the minute Grin

BraveLilBear · 31/10/2013 16:23

Good god Hazle that's madness! Fingers crossed for next move.

Cav I can't imagine that's bad... Least I hope not - H has been standing with support for weeks. According to the wonder weeks book it's a leap 4 thing - Elodie is there isn't she so I guess it's fine.

MotherOfCleo · 31/10/2013 17:49

Hummmm, if gifts were already exchanged at the baby shower what do I take when we go and visit my friend and her new baby? Pate? Wink Camenbert? More baby gifts? Tad confused Confused

Alexandra6 · 31/10/2013 17:53

Ooh what a good idea, a 'banned stuff' hamper with lovely wine/fizz, blue cheese, pate, fancy fake tan like clinique...hmm running out ideas...not sure tuna and liver say 'congrats'! Grin

Cavort · 31/10/2013 17:54

If I have already taken a gift to the baby shower I just take a card after the birth Grin

OP posts:
MotherOfCleo · 31/10/2013 20:12

I was thinking a card cavort but I gather others have taken more. May take pate, cheese and fizz and a bit of a tongue in cheek gift for mum Grin

Alexandra6 · 31/10/2013 21:21

I'm a bad person - I bought a bag of mini chocolate bars for the trick or treat children like I usually do. But then I turned the lights off, ignored the knocks and stuffed my face in a greedy pregnancy binge!

BraveLilBear · 01/11/2013 08:52

Lol Alex you're pregnant, I'm sure that's allowed!

Friend one IRL has had her baby. I'm so excited for her. Just waiting for friend two now and then the 6 babies from 5 former workmates in just under 5 months will be complete.

Might not sound too weird but there was only ever a maximum of 8 people doing our job at a time. Five out of eight is pretty amazing if you ask me!

Cavort · 01/11/2013 09:52

12 hours sleep for me! Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Disclaimer - she woke at 03.45 to feed and then DH got up with her at 7 so it's not quite as good as it sounds but I am still over the moon.

We're off for swimming lesson number 2 today and AF has just shown up. Sodding typical. Angry

BraveLilBear · 01/11/2013 10:06

Wow Cavort! Am jealous! How do you feel for it?

are you ok with tampons or having to cancel?

Purplemonster · 01/11/2013 10:44

The mini monster is pretty good at standing too, apparently runs in the family, SIL was walking at 7 months Shock

Saw GP about L's growth or lack thereof yesterday and he's referred us straight to paediatrics so hopefully we can find out what's going on (or at least whether i should worry) soon.

BelissimaLol · 01/11/2013 11:08

That's good news purple. At least you're getting some help rather than just constant nagging!
Think cav stole everyone's sleepConfused. I was woken up 4 times AngryAngry
Bought the wonder weeks book on kindle and have to say it's fascinating stuff!!!

HazleNutt · 01/11/2013 12:05

Poor Viki was hungry and wanted to eat every 2 hours during night. Luckily went back to sleep immediately, but still - if he only took the bottles, I'm sure he'd sleep through the night by now. Hmm

CatsCantFlyFast · 01/11/2013 12:20

New from mother this morn? I'm not on tenterhooks, not at all

CatsCantFlyFast · 01/11/2013 12:20

News not new

MotherOfCleo · 01/11/2013 13:52

Nothing exciting to report I'm afraid merk. Just been for a 2 hour dog walk in the hope of walking him out, got lots of tightenings and cramps which have stopped now I'm back. Doh. Running a bath in the hope I can relax a bit, have my most relaxing playlist on too. Was worth a try I guess.

Cavort · 01/11/2013 14:27

Brave I feel like the dogs bollocks absolutely great! It's the most sleep i've had since Elodie was born. Grin Can't cancel swimming as you have to pay for each half term in advance. DH offered to go in my place but I risked it with tampons and was fine. Elodie seems to absolutely love it and hasn't cried at all, even when I dunk her under. Smile

Purple I will be gutted, gutted, GUTTED if she walks that young! Babies are such hard work once they start walking and destroying the house and I was looking forward to an easier ride until she was around one.
Am I being stupid in that I can't see why slow weight gain is a problem? I mean if illness has been ruled out, the baby is happy, alert, eating regularly, plenty of wet and dirty nappies, etc. then surely it's just them finding their own natural size? Adults and older children aren't all the same size so why would babies be?

Lol I find that knowing there is a WW explanation helps me keep my patience at 4am when she's up for the 4th time. Smile

Oh Hazle you must be so knackered. Are you also having no luck with the sippy cups?

Mother you mean you aren't also eating 8 pineapples per day? Grin

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 01/11/2013 14:32

I'm not that bad, surprisingly. Seem to need a lot less sleep after having the baby.
Sippy cups not so great either, no. And he changes his mind about what he likes every day - today the Medela teat works (well, he had 50 ml) again, a couple of days ago he screamed bloody murder when we tried. It almost counts as exercise, feeding that baby.

MotherOfCleo · 01/11/2013 14:45

haha cav I've managed to avoid the pineapple so far.....don' t you need to eat about 75 before it has any effect?

Glad you had fun swimming, hope Elodie is pooped and sleeps for you now Grin
