My bump has def changed position as the sensations are totally different and it looks/feels different - bit of a shame as she said it was head down last week at my midwife app! I've just realised what might have happened...DH thought it would be interesting to do the torch thing where the baby can see the light through the bump so he shone a torch on the bump on Tues night and it really responded, my whole tummy moved around. At the time we thought it was really funny and fascinating - but now I think maybe it completely changed position when that happened?! Am also a teensy bit worried it was a strong torch and maybe you're not meant to shine that on the bump?! Anyway I'm 35 weeks today, do you still think there's time for it to change position again if it has twirled into breech? I blame DH and his torch!!!

HazleNutt · 24/10/2013 13:40

janey didn't Miles change his position quite late in pregnancy?

Had to go home to feed the baby, he had again taken only 50 ml in 4 hours. He did manage to take a couple of sips from the cup, this one:
www.amazon.co.uk/Tommee-Tippee-Explora-First-Sips/dp/B00ABCZ1E2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382618336&sr=8-1&keywords=first+sips
so will keep working on that. Then have to go home and feed him again before teaching my gym class. Good news is that with work and all this running back and forth, I have no time to eat. There's hope I won't look like a Heffalump at my sister's wedding.

Cavort · 24/10/2013 14:47

Alex I don't think a torch is enough to make a baby flip over. If your bump looks and feels different it's probably because baby is slowly dropping which I think is normal at late 30's weeks, but if it has flipped for whatever reason then I think it's still possible to flip back before the birth so I wouldn't worry. When I was assured Elodie was head down towards the end I was always baffled because I was convinced I could feel something which clearly wasn't a nice smooth head rubbing against my cervix, and when I was dilating in labour it turned out the MW could see her hand was right next to her head so it must have been little fingers which I could feel. Smile

Well done on public BFing Brave. And once you're past the initial newborn BFing endurance challenge, I can't think why you wouldn't carry on longer term? Why would you BF through the sleepless, sore nipples, pinned to the sofa stage and then give it up when it becomes a 10 minute piece of piss which is much easier than formula?

That's a bummer about having to keep going home Hazle. Can't your DH bring the baby to you to ease your day a little? I hope Viki takes to the sippy cup soon.

Fun and games again in the night last night here. Elodie woke for her first night feed at 3am, wouldn't settle afterwards until 4ish and then woke at 5 and 6 before getting up for the day at 7. She never usually wakes unless she is hungry. Angry I am currently resigned to the fact that I am never again going to feel well rested until she is a teenager. Angry

MotherOfCleo · 24/10/2013 16:07

alex it could be that baby is back to back or now lying on the right rather than the left or something? Even if bubs has flipped it is still possible to flip back. I don't think there is a huge amount of room left to move too much so wouldn't worry that much just yet.

I am so frustrated I have been doing all the things they tell you to do to get baby engaged and went to the midwife this morning for my 38 week check and guess what....he's not engaged.

So frustrated, I'd at least feel like I was getting somewhere if he was engaged but I currently feel in limbo and actually like a bit of a failure as my body and son aren't doing what they should! Sad

I know I'm being daft but all the girls close to me dates wise that I know through yoga and antenatal have engaged babies and mines still not. Blush

On the plus side he is in the perfect position just not far enough down for me to even hope for labour any time soon!

Quodlibet · 24/10/2013 16:12

Alex there are quite a few positions/exercises you can do to encourage them to get head-down from the research I've been doing since finding out mine was the wrong way up last week! I think the good news is that if it has just flipped, that means it's still got plenty of room to turn and so can turn back just as easily. You can do most of the exercises even if you aren't breech without worrying you are going to end up with them the wrong way up.

I am 32+4 and get that large kind of movement every few days, sometimes accompanied by lopsided bump, and am pretty sure mine is still pretty mobile as sometimes I have smooth bits where wiggly bits were and vice-versa. I so wish I could tell which bits were which though!

MotherOfCleo · 24/10/2013 16:20

quod my bump was hugely lopsided this morning and oddly the bigger side was the side which the midwife informed me was where his feet were so god knows what he's up to! Grin

Alexandra6 · 24/10/2013 16:40

quod pretty soon you might be able to feel little hands and feet actually poking out which is amazing! I could until my husband got carried away with a torch baby changed position Wink Maybe it is just facing backwards more which could be good.

I've heard about doing exercises/positions and my NCT teacher said we should spend time every day on all fours, leaning forwards or on a bouncing ball. Only problem is, I'd have to get off the sofa to do that! Grin I'm soooo tired!

Alexandra6 · 24/10/2013 16:45

Ooh and maybe cavort's right and it's dropping! Either way I really should get my house ready, baby stuff ready, hospital bag packed and legs waxed! It's funny to think that either way, it will def be here by 7 weeks.

Mother can they be sure it isn't engaged? How can they tell for def without scanning? Also maybe some people have a faster engagement and then labour do it might not necessarily mean you'll go overdue?

Purplemonster · 24/10/2013 18:43

Cavort - what, you think you'll be able to relax when she's a teenager...out at parties...where there are boys? You're having a laugh! Grin

Getting very excited about the next round of berry babies to arrive - not long now!

janey1234 · 24/10/2013 18:53

Yes hazle he did flip. Head down and engaged - confirmed by scan - at 36 weeks. Transverse breech by 38+2, flipped a couple of days before that. Was told it was incredibly rare to flip at that late stage. I will put on FB the bump photos of the flip - with hindsight it was a very significant move, unlike all the other movement. No torch involved so I'm sure you're fine. Plus mine was obvious to others - my dad asked from the other side of the room why my bump had gone all weird! Blush

Alexandra6 · 24/10/2013 19:05

Why did you have a scan at 36 weeks? They're not scanning me anymore? I guess if they think the baby is transverse/full breech towards the end, I could insist on a position scan to make sure if the midwife doesn't seem very experienced before making a decision on CS?

janey1234 · 24/10/2013 19:29

It was a growth scan, not normal I don't think? Although they're notoriously inaccurate anyway so not sure why they do them at all?!

Hazle - argh what a pain re feeding. I wonder if he will slowly get used to it - hope so for your sake.

Facebook tells me cavort is out for the evening. Suddenly overcome with jealousy!! Wink

Alexandra6 · 24/10/2013 19:36

Ooh I'm jealous too!

Even just the thought of gorgeous wine and being able to stay awake past 10pm sounds amazing! Grin

Cavort · 24/10/2013 20:41

Janey I wish I was out for the evening, just a nice dinner out with DH and Elodie and then back in time for an 8pm bedtime. I did have a lovely glass of wine though.

We have been moving Elodie's bedtime back gradually ready for losing an hour next week. The problem is, being a Summer baby, she seems to associate dim lighting or darkness with sleeping so it's quite difficult to stop her from getting tired and irritable as soon as it gets dark. She's going to have to get her head around it though as it'll soon be dark at 4pm.

Purple of course I'll be able to relax when she's a teenager. She will inevitably turn out just like me and always dress conservatively, hate parties and alcohol, and remain a virgin until her wedding night. Wink Grin

BelissimaLol · 24/10/2013 20:48

I also had a presentation scan at 36 weeks to check if baby was breech. I did have to push for it though but glad I had it.
Having a lovely evening with my friend on second glass of wine and enjoying a bit of girly time!
Sorry for the thick question but what is supposed to happen with babies when time changes next week? Wake up an hour earlier????

Cavort · 24/10/2013 21:34

gro.co.uk/blog/managing-your-babys-sleep-when-the-clocks-go-back-this-month

I'm dreading it Lol, Elodie is already not the greatest sleeper so a 1 hour loss on a currently 7am get up is going to be shit if I don't do something about it now. I have been putting her to bed later all this week and so far she hasn't moved from a 7am get up so fingers crossed it gets later before next weekend. Confused

OP posts:
MotherOfCleo · 24/10/2013 22:39

Just checked my notes and although the midwife said he's not engaged the notes say 4/5th palpable. That means he's 1/5 engaged right?

That's progress at least, is it odd that makes me feel better?

BraveLilBear · 25/10/2013 03:47

That's right Mother - and not weird at all to feel relieved!

Definitely good to lean forward tho if you can - have you all seen the Spinning Babies website?

I used to love feeling H's foot through my bump. Weirdly my favourite was when I was at a wedding evening do and I could feel his spine through my bump. I love running my hand down his back now from time to time cos it reminds me #weird

Abd some mild envy here for your meal out Cavort :)

Cavort · 25/10/2013 06:42

Elodie has slept ok but I have been annoyingly awake since the dog woke me up at 02.30 after he ate my Lansinoh yesterday and needed to go out. Turns out Lanolin gives dogs upset stomachs. Confused Have been unable to get back to sleep since despite having a mostly sleeping baby. It's going to be yet another loooong day. Brew anyone?

OP posts:
janey1234 · 25/10/2013 06:56

Yes please. Up every hour last night. 'Twas lovely.

Supposed to be on proper boozy night out tonight. No way am I going. I am staying at home and going to bed at 8pm.

Damn you, four month sleep regression.

(Hate to say this Cavort, but he ate your lanolin?! Dogs are ACE.)

Cavort · 25/10/2013 08:29

Janey there is absolutely nothing he won't eat. He nabbed it from under the pushchair where I had been keeping it to use as lib balm while out and about. Bloody dog! But I love him, he's still my big, hairy, smelly, greedy baby number 2. It's hard pretending to be cross with him when I generally find most of his mischief funny. Grin

Since Elodie's sleeping has all gone to shit been disturbed over the last few weeks, DH and I have been getting through it by him going to bed early so he can get up at 5am and watch Elodie whether she's awake already or he deals with any wake ups for those 2 hours. That way, no matter how bad the night turns out to be, I know I have got 5-7am to get a bit more sleep in before he goes to work. I read this yesterday about people's experiences with sleep regression and it made me feel better that we are not alone and it will pass.

Elodie is currently transfixed by Rastamouse while I load up on caffeine. Have you seen it, it is bizarre?!

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 25/10/2013 09:01

Viki had a better night, but didn't want to eat much before I left, fell asleep instead. So I expect some screaming as soon as he wakes up. It's amazing how fast they learn, he can now hold the sippy cup by himself and happily chew on on. Drinking still not going that well, unfortunately.

BraveLilBear · 25/10/2013 11:59

Well I had an ace night - 9-730 with just one wake up at3 for hhalf an hour. But that's so not going to last so I'll enjoy what I can.

To make up for it, the kitten is seven kinds of hyperactive this morning. She's 4 days post-op after neutering and obviously has her energy back. This morning's antics include somehow getting the cone of shame off and fighting me in my attempts to get it back on, and she's just tipped a house plant over so there's soil everywhere.

In her 5 minutes of freedom from the cone she was trying to get at the stitches so it's all pretty stressful. DP owes me big time later...

HazleNutt · 25/10/2013 12:50

oh good the 4th side to the crib has arrived, I can put the little escape artist back into his own bed.

BraveLilBear · 25/10/2013 13:26

Btw thanks for the link Cavort - I think we're quite optimistic here that 9pm down will become 8 on Sunday morning.

Out of interest, must be a nightmare giving birth around 2am on Sunday. Must be so confusing for everyone - and must suck being the night midwife!
