Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Jolleigh · 15/10/2013 17:22

I had a proper bag grey...nothing special. Just one made of actual fabric would do. Can't remember anyone using a plastic bag.

MummyPig24 · 15/10/2013 17:44

I had a proper pe bag. The drawstring sports type. I don't know if I was cool or not!

Rock I hope your placenta stays where it is!

Gawjus that's measly compared to what you managed to pack away at the weekend! I've hardly had time to eat today so I am very jealous. Desperate for my dinner!

rescoonetwothree · 15/10/2013 17:45

ok thank you! ill take that as 3-0 to me haha - he (jokingly) said i was sheltered because i took a real bag haha!

PiratesMam · 15/10/2013 17:46

Ted where are youuuuu I have checked back to see what you're having!

My mum made my PE bag and embroidered my name on it. How lovely - but I was just jealous of the shit plastic character ones that my friends had. So ungrateful!

If we find out what we're having (still undecided) we'll be finding out on Halloween!! Halloween Shock

Rockchick1984 · 15/10/2013 17:50

I must have been hardcore then - we all used plastic bags at school! Storm bags (tacky fashion shop in Liverpool) was the height of cool; Netto bags meant instant pisstaking Grin I worked in Jane Norman a few years ago, teenage girls frequently came in and asked if they could have a carrier bag for their PE kits Hmm

rescoonetwothree · 15/10/2013 17:54

haha aw pirates that's cute!!

ooh interesting on plastic bags actually happening, id never seen someone using one for pe! anyone else?!

BakingEating · 15/10/2013 17:54

So Jolls and I need some bonfire night themed baby names and Pirates needs some Halloween themed names!

My PE kit went in a carrier bag inside my school bag, but that was secondary school. Can't remember what we did for primary school.

rescoonetwothree · 15/10/2013 17:58

guy fawkes? ;)

NoMaybeAboutIt · 15/10/2013 18:05

I had a proper bag too! And DH stuffed his in his school bag. Maybe it's a boy thing?!

MummyPig24 · 15/10/2013 18:29

As if things couldn't get any more stressful, dh hit a cyclist on his way home from work Sad. The cyclist came out from behind a van and cut across in front of him and dh hit him at 40mph, the guy wasn't wearing a helmet but miraculously he was fine. He went home saying he was fine Confused. Dhs car is mashed up though and we don't have a penny to sort it out. Dh has just reported it to the police just in case it comes back to bite him. I just cannot believe the cyclist was ok, someone up there must be looking down on him!

Rockchick1984 · 15/10/2013 18:47

Bloody hell Mummy!! Your DH must be so shaken up. I hate cyclists - they can be such dangerous riders, yet don't need any insurance Confused

lumpylumps · 15/10/2013 18:52

Real pe bag here. I remember taking the piss out of the carrier bag kids. Especially those who swung their bags round on the way back from swimming and it splitting. Wet towels and trunks on the road!!

Gifts. Homemade are ok. None of the people I buy for would appreciate it tho. And I love shopping for a bargain.

MummyPig24 · 15/10/2013 19:11

The police said he has to go down to the station as the cyclist didn't take dhs details or report it he has committed a crime. So dh has gone off to do that. He's really shaken up and accused me of being unsupportive, which I wasn't trying to be, I was just shocked that it had happened and worried what the repercussions would be. I hope he is feeling a bit better when he comes home.

IceNoSlice · 15/10/2013 19:14

Mummy that sounds traumatic. Poor DP.

However Rock - lay off cyclists

I cycled to work every day before we moved. Believe me you get dickhead drivers or considerate drivers, as well as dickhead or considerate cyclists. IME Most drivers (not Mummy's DP I'm sure) do not allow cyclists enough room. Or appreciate they are driving a big metal weapon that can do a lot of damage to pedestrians and cyclists.

OwlinaTree · 15/10/2013 19:16

Homemade drawstring bag with my name on at primary (thanks mum)

Carrier bag of some description at high school. River Island was the cool bag, but I didn't shop there, I probably had a Mark One bag! Shop there now tho (River Island that is, is Mark One still going?)

OwlinaTree · 15/10/2013 19:19

Sorry about your DH accident mummy. My DH came off his bike not long ago and broke his arm. Cyclists aresso vulnerable, I can't believe he wasn't wearing a helmet. Prob saved my DH from a very nasty head injury.

MummyPig24 · 15/10/2013 19:22

The cyclist was behind a van in another lane so dh couldn't actually see him until the van turned off and the cyclist cut in front of dh. I can't believe someone wouldn't wear a helmet on a dual carriageway! I hope the guy really is ok and doesn't end up with concussion or something.

MummyPig24 · 15/10/2013 19:23

And Ice dh can be a bit of a twat on the road (I think but then I don't drive) so I was ready to read him the riot act but it seems that he was actually paying attention!

IceNoSlice · 15/10/2013 19:35

Mummy it defo sounds like the cyclist was totally in the wrong and your DP wasn't at fault here - I wasn't implying he was. I was just pointing out that it is not all cyclists who are twats Smile

MummyPig24 · 15/10/2013 19:40

I know Ice I just don't want to say it was all the cyclists fault as I didn't see it. God some things in life are so shitty right now. We are very lucky to have a nice (miniature) house and wonderful, gorgeous children but I'm so stressed out with my dad and his drinking, money and now this car accident.

Teddy come back we want to know how the scan went!

Rockchick1984 · 15/10/2013 19:41

Ice I completely agree that not all cyclists are twats (DH often cycles to work) but ultimately if you're using a vehicle of any variety on a road, then you should obey the Highway Code - frequently ignored by cyclists!

BakingEating · 15/10/2013 19:55

I agree Ice. I cycled to work for years and came to the conclusion that the vehicle being operated didn't say much about the person operating it. My experience on a bike did make me think more about how cars are actually dangerous, heavy machinery.

mummy your poor man did all the right things and deserves a big hug and cup of tea when he gets in. These things do just happen and he mustn't feel bad as it wasn't his fault.

BakingEating · 15/10/2013 20:02

Frequently ignored by lots of road users Rock. It's not as though I used to obey the rules in my car and then break them on my bike. In six years, I can count the number of times a car overtook me as per Highway Code instructions on one hand.

lumpylumps · 15/10/2013 20:04

mummy how awful. At least he's done the right thing and gone to the police. Not many people would!

BadlyWrittenPoem · 15/10/2013 20:22

I think the thing with gifts is to know your recipient and give accordingly. I only give vouchers is someone has specifically requested them as apart from Amazon vouchers I find that they are a hassle to use as I have to go to a specific shop specially and often can't find anything I feel is worth buying so I don't really like receiving them. Vouchers can be a thoughtless or a thoughtful present just like HM gifts or an actual thing bought from a shop can be either so if what I receive isn't really something I like/want/appreciate I try to see the thought behind it. That said, there are some things where it is impossible to see thoughtfulness like earrings when I don't have pierced ears.

Rock, glad to hear all is well with the baby. I had a low lying placenta last time at 18 weeks and by my next scan it had moved up plenty and it's pretty rare for them not to move higher.

"Crap gifts that need to be 'taken back/to the charity shop' is such a 1st world problem. I would much rather have a gift I know someone has put effort into (even chutney) than a gift voucher any day of the week."
I may have missed someone else mentioning taking things to the charity shop so I apologise if you weren't referring to what I said but my point about having to take gifts to the charity shop was that I hate wasting other people's time/effort/money by having to do so. It's not that I don't appreciate them - it's actually because I do appreciate the time/effort/money they have spent that I hate receiving those kind of gifts.

grey I used the coolest carrier bag I had for PE kit. Everyone did and I think you would have been seriously mocked for having a "proper" bag.

How stressful mummypig - I hope your DH is not too shaken up by it.
