OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
FoxMulder · 15/10/2013 13:15

When I was a kid my Foxy & Teddy would always get me a giant bag of pick 'n mix on my b-day. That was awesome! They never do anymore though. Must be because Woolworths shut down.

Teddybear4 · 15/10/2013 13:19

Sorry. I have sinned. Been AWOL for a while to deal with DS, sickness (me and others) and general life. Here now though and will aim to catch up while waiting for my scan (been an hour and still waiting!!). Pink or blue, blue or pink?

HotCrossPun · 15/10/2013 13:22

Damn you Foxy & BWP!! Angry

I've just read through the thread and now I feel compelled to make fudge & shortbread! I've got all the ingredients I need for both so it would be rude not to. Grin

JustCallMeBaldrick · 15/10/2013 13:32

Mmmmm, fudge!!!!
I got some really lovely butter fudge at Lidl last week. Would it be really terrible if I put it in pretty bags and passed it off as my own for a home-made Secret Santa?!
I might have to buy some more when I'm passing tomorrow, as baby will need some more by then...

JustCallMeBaldrick · 15/10/2013 13:33

Anyone else got really sore nipples? Mine are really tender and tingly today - even my bra's irritating them. Can't take it off yet, as I'll forget to put it on when I go out later, and I'll be doing the school run with them dangling round my navel :-(

faithfulandtruthful · 15/10/2013 13:40

Block If you can measure stuff and put it in a jar its worth checking out the cookie mix/ cake mix/ special hotcholate/tea mix in a jar. Leave the creative bit to the giftee. Then they can mae it when the christmas treats are running low.

Just My nipples have been sore on and off since day one, feels like someone is giving me a chinese burn on my nipples and surrounding area. I found a better fitting bra has reduce the incidence of this happening though.

F&T

IceNoSlice · 15/10/2013 13:54

Hahaha Baldrick, love it. Defo repackage the Lidl fudge and pass it off as your own! I bet they love it and ask for the recipe.

IceNoSlice · 15/10/2013 13:59

Ok, a serious post. One for all you second/third etc timers. Would really appreciate some thoughts on this.

I had DS in a different county. The antenatal care was patchy at best, and the birth did not go entirely to plan - not majorly traumatic but it ended in an ECMS. So far in this pregnancy I have had no indication that the MWs or consultant has seen, or even asked for, the notes from my last pg. I am surprised at this. The consultant asked me what happened and took notes - but surely it would be better to check my notes? I know they'll have to ask for them from a different authority but I would have thought it would be useful.

What would you do? Do you think I should request them myself? Thanks.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 15/10/2013 14:18

Baldrick, mine are more sensitive than usual (which is not fun when breastfeeding!) but thankfully it's only noticeable when breastfeeding so far.

ice, I guess it depends on whether you think them seeing your notes would make a difference to what care you are given. My impression based on anecdotal evidence of friends seeing a consultant due to issues in a previous birth is that generally they are looking at what your concerns are relating to it and might look at your notes from last time to check if you are asking them things like whether the same thing is likely to happen again but otherwise go mainly on what you tell them. So if you feel like you want to see them or want them to see them then I would say that getting hold of a copy yourself would probably be a good idea but if you're happy with the care you've been offered and don't feel like the notes would add anything then there's probably no need. Also, again based purely on anecdotal evidence, my impression is that generally when people have had an EMCS it has not been things which would automatically recur so unless the person had concerns about those things (like "what will happen if x?" kind of thing) there probably isn't a need to look at the previous time particularly.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 15/10/2013 14:21

Also ice, if you do request a copy for yourself, be prepared that reading them may be upsetting. I was upset when I read mine partly because it reminded me of things I hadn't been happy about and partly because there were a lot of inaccuracies in it (e.g. the episiotomy done without my knowledge or consent was written down as "consent obtained").

MummyPig24 · 15/10/2013 14:30

Baldrick my nipples are still really sore and the left one is unbearably itchy!

ice you could request the notes yourself and give them to the mw. I don't think she actually looks up people's notes though, she asked about my previous babies so she obviously hasn't read mine.

My friend was good, she looked well which was nice as I was expecting her to look very ill. Her hair is very short and patchy, almost bald now. We went to the farm shop for a coffee and she wore a headscarf then. It was lovely to see her.

Jolleigh · 15/10/2013 14:42

Question for people with pre existing children...

Is a magna doodle appropriate for a little girl turning 4?

Prambo3TheReturn · 15/10/2013 14:45

I'm sorry, but I would be decidedly unimpressed if someone made me my Christmas/birthday present. And I would tell them so. If a child makes a gift for an adult I think it's one of the most beautiful things in the world, but if an adult makes me a gift I simply think 'you tight-arsed, selfish hippy.' Who on earth would prefer an ornament made from papier maché to a Debenhams voucher?

Fox, I'm exactly the same as you re Christmas. As a Christian I find it obscene the amount of money folks spend when they are largely under pressure to do so and are probably atheist. Absurd. Mind you, I have always found the commercial side of Christmas utterly pointless as a childless hag. I can't wait for this baby to change our lives and attitudes Smile

Hottie, I am very outdoorsy and run around a lot and am athletically very fit and so am looking forward to all that stuff with my child. I will adore reading and writing with them and building stuff but I am afraid s/he will have to watch kiddie telly alone. I abhor that shit.

Lyra! Another boy!! Congratulations Thanks I wonder if you are one of those people who only produces boys? I'm Envy

MummyPig24 · 15/10/2013 14:52

Joll my kids would love a magna doodle so yes, good present.

Prambo3TheReturn · 15/10/2013 14:52

F&T, the gifts you give don't sound too bad but receiving chutney? As a gift? I would have smashed the jar over their head. For me, someone has made the effort if they have put on a coat and hat, braved the shitty weather, parked up in a heaving town centre and carefully chosen the perfect nail varnish colour for me.

FoxMulder · 15/10/2013 14:57

There's a joke in there somewhere about the prefect nail varnish colour for you...

I think homemade presents can be great, especially if they're edible!

Jolleigh · 15/10/2013 15:01

Pram - I can honestly say I'd prefer practically anything to a Debenhams voucher. Buying a voucher is the singular most idiotic way of ruining money. I don't get why anyone sees the logic in taking their £50 cash that can be spent anywhere and doing something to it that means it can only be used in 1 shop after. I'd only ever give a voucher to someone I didn't trust with their own money. And no thought at all goes into voucher buying. It's the thought value that is important to me, not the cash value.

On the other hand I adore home made gifts Grin

Jolleigh · 15/10/2013 15:03

Thanks Mummy Thanks

Prambo3TheReturn · 15/10/2013 15:06

Debenhams was just an example of spending money in a shop Hmm I do think that if I, say, collected owls and someone knitted me an owl I would be utterly delighted. It has been created, with much effort, with specifically me in mind. However, to receive a batch of chocolate brownies, which have been probably been made for virtually every C-rate rellie, would piss me off greatly. I can make my own brownies, thanks. Even better, I can buy some for 69p in Aldi.

Foxy, do tell the joke...

FoxMulder · 15/10/2013 15:08

The thing about cash, though, at least with me, is that I put it into my bank and forget about it. It just gets spent on bills. Or I put it in my purse and spend it on library fees and greggs pasties and whatever the hell else I spend my cash on. With a Debenhams voucher I'm going to use it to buy something nice.

FoxMulder · 15/10/2013 15:09

I don't know the joke Pram, I'm just sure there's an opportunity for one!

Prambo3TheReturn · 15/10/2013 15:09

..I know I probably sound like an ingrate but, really, I'm not. I think it's the middle-classness of it all; all this Kirstie fucking Allsopp bullshit. I find it deeply patronising, actually.

Jolleigh · 15/10/2013 15:11

Nothing against Debenhams...it's vouchers that piss me off Grin

Sort of get what you mean now...but think it should apply more to any gift that's given with a lack of actual thought. I've received a hell of a lot of very ugly photo frames from my brother (or should I say, his wife...he looks as repulsed by them as I feel when he sees me open them) and it just feels like I'd be being too ungrateful for me to turn round and say 'if you're not going to think about the gift, I'd rather you didn't bother'.

FoxMulder · 15/10/2013 15:15

That's the kind of gift that should be outlawed. At least vouchers say 'we didn't want to give you some shit you don't want, at least this way you can get something you DO want'

I would like brownies though. What I wouldn't like is an ornament or an item of jewellery I will never wear. Or yes, a photo frame. I also like cash Grin

x0gawjus0x · 15/10/2013 15:16
