Oh I'm knackered. Legs feel like lead and in back ache agony. Still 1.5 hours until I will be home. Sad Today is going to make me exhausted for the rest of the week.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 07/10/2013 19:24

Thanks all - altered, only and frizz.

Sounds like an ipad may be the way forward! Now I have to decide whether to fork out for the 32GB one or stick with the cheaper 16GB...

frizz glad your boss appreciates your hard work!

flowersfortea · 07/10/2013 20:07

Hello everybody, remember me?!

Sorry I've been AWOL for a while, life just gets busy sometimes doesn't it? Lots going on here including work, professional exams, but also squeezed in a nice holiday in Cornwall before the horrible rain came. Struggling to catch up with all the news but amazing to hear about space's baby!

Baby growing and growing and I'm recognising a lot of the above mentioned symptoms like getting breathless and slightly intrusive/inappropriate comments (especially from my well meaning but inquisitive patients...!). Also waiting on my work to sort out maternity leave which is really complicated and not helped by the fact I don't even have a contract yet more than 2 months into my job....!

Sultanajo · 07/10/2013 20:25

Humpty the other reason I have just remembered that I got the iPad was because no extra anti-virus software was needed, whereas the guy in PC world said the android ones would need that. So that would be an extra expense in itself!

I would probably prefer a full size iPad for watching movies etc. DH has one and I have borrowed his before. However, I got the mini because of the weight - the full sized ones are really heavy, so it depends if you are gonna want to carry it around out and about or if you will be mainly using it in the house.....

Sultanajo · 07/10/2013 20:52

Frizz amazing how they only realise what they have just before they are about to lose it!!! That must have been really great to hear and a boost to keep you going for the next 11 weeks! Grin

FEAR THE SNEEZE That is going to be our new thing! I only pee myself if I sneeze currently, so I am very much with you all on that front!!!

Flowers who are you again? Wink Nice to hear from you!

Frizz1986 · 07/10/2013 21:56

I seem to get pee in the thongs but not so much in the big pants. Must get more big pants!! (I just dont like spending money atm)

Just got an email from the woman running the nct class on wednesday. Oh my god so scared lol. Actual nct class! Have heard mixed things about them but hoping ill get to meet some other mums so thats my main aim as i dont really have a circle of friends so am quite isolated.

Sultanajo · 07/10/2013 22:01

frizz how funny! Perhaps the thong adds more pressure???

OMG - NCT! Just realised ours start tomorrow night, followed by a 4 hour session on Saturday! I think going to these will make it feel more real. I am also a bit nervous about the types of people who will be there and praying they will be nice as we have to spend a significant amount of time with them in the coming weeks! Really hope you meet some lovely Mums Frizz. It's not the main reason I am doing it, although it would be nice to get to know some mums close to me as all my mum friends to be are around 1 hour away from me....

Am really hoping it will make DH feel more part of it all and understand more about what is going on and what's to come!

Does anyone else has moments of happy serenity about everything and then in the next minute go into a blind panic realising they have to push a baby out and also they then have to look after it FOREVER? I know something is kicking me, but sometimes it still doesn't feel real. It's the weirdest feeling!

Frizz1986 · 07/10/2013 22:36

sultana i totally have those moments but so far i am not bothered about the reality of pushing this thing out more switching between feeling calm and excited and then realising that we have bought nothing and have hardly anything ready and its only 14 weeks to go!
I am normally beyond organised (i am the person who last xmas had all the veg par boiled and frozen and had made xmas eve nibbles which were in the freezer by end of nov) so am feeling v under prepared but i think its good for me to let go a bit.

Sultanajo · 07/10/2013 23:09

Glad its not just me frizz. Grin Yeah its definitely good to let go a bit! Will be preparation for when bubs arrives! Grin

OnlyThePurpleOnes · 08/10/2013 07:01

Wow, Frizz I'm in awe of your Christmas organization skills! I am resigned to turkey takeaway and M&S mince pies this year. I might stretch to making a Baileys cheesecake though...

Sultanajo · 08/10/2013 08:44

Morning all! Just waiting for the midwife and she is late..... how annoying! Hmm

Heartburn is now apparently going to appear at most points in the day and night! Everytime I tried lying on my side it started big time. Looks as though I am gonna have to sleep almost sitting up from now on.... Confused

TobyLerone · 08/10/2013 09:05

Morning, ladies :)

Thanks for all the birthday wishes yesterday. I had a lovely day.

Re pee -- I have to carry mine around with me too. I've just ordered a new pack of 5 pots because I'm forever forgetting mine in my bag and having to throw it away.

Exciting that NCT classes are starting this week! I'm really sad that we can't go to ours any more. I really wanted to go. I need to meet some local people with babies the same age. I'm paying the price now for my general air of antisocial-ness! But I cannot be home alone with a baby -- I'll end up boiling my head!
There is a weekly bumps and babes NCT group near me, so I might go to that when the baby's born, but I'd feel a right willy going before the baby is born. It'll be bad enough going by myself when the baby's here!
Being an introvert suits me fine most of the time, but I fear that this might be the time when it doesn't work.

Oh God, Christmas! I think I should probably get more organised this year. We have a very strange routine for Christmas, but it involves me not having to buy too many presents or too much food, so it's all good. Still, my usual habit of leaving it all until the last minute is unlikely to work this year!

Lalunya85 · 08/10/2013 09:26

frizz - me too! still haven't bought anything and feeling very underprepared. I'm normally the woman with the laminated spreadsheets when it comes to organisation, but this here feels different. My plan is to wait until at least November/December with buying the big stuff, and the early Jan for buying clothes and other small stuff.

A wise woman (with a 2-week-old baby) told me this weekend that you should only buy stuff once you need it - we live in the age of the internet afterall - rather than buying everything before, just in case you might need it once bubs is here! I doubt I'll be able to stick to it 100%, but I'm giving it a go.

TobyLerone · 08/10/2013 09:36

She was quite right, Lalunya. Nowadays there's nothing you can't get within a day or two if you need it. Particularly baby clothes -- they sell them in supermarkets and most towns have at least one which is open 24 hours.

But yes, even big stuff like a pram can be delivered in a few days, and you'd be unlikely to need one before that anyway. If you can wait until the sales, you could get a bargain!

Sultanajo · 08/10/2013 09:44

Well MW finally turned up! Took bloods to check iron levels, then scared me shitless when she struggled to fine the heartbeat (despite me feeling him moving this morning....). That's the first time she took a while to find it, but all good under the hood! Also got measured for the first time which was spot on apparently. She had a good feel and said she could feel babies head at the bottom (which would explain the recent high kicks I have been getting). Was quite sore when she was prodding though and OMG how much does it hurt having your blood pressure taken. The cuff gets tighter and tighter and just when you think it can't go any tighter, they make it tighter still! That's actually the thing I am beginning to dread now! OMG, I am such a wuss when it comes to pain - how the hell am I gonna get through labour???

I now apparently see the MW every three weeks - ekkk!

I asked if I should be kick counting - she said "no need, just be aware of what's normal for you and if you notice an obvious decrease then let us know...."

Toby I considered bump and babes near me, but like you would feel like a total tit turning up while still in the bump stage....Glad you had a good day yesterday.

Lalunya I like the thinking, BUT I don't think I can stick to that, although to be fair I am pretty sure the majority of stuff we have bought is stuff that will definitely get used. I am trying not to get stuff that we "may or may not" use, but may weaken nearer the time in a mad panic! Wink

Sultanajo · 08/10/2013 10:18

Also forgot to say, I asked the midwife about flu jabs. She said I could have it any time from now onwards and she also said she would recommend the Whooping Cough vaccine which can be given any time after 28 weeks.

I need to arrange both with my GP. Good job I asked! Not sure if she would have mentioned it otherwise....? Hmm

TobyLerone · 08/10/2013 10:28

How weird. Mine gave me leaflets on whooping cough/flu vaccines when I saw her a couple of weeks ago. I must book them, actually. I need to book bloods to be taken next week anyway, so hopefully I can get them all done at once.

Lalunya85 · 08/10/2013 10:55

Sounds like this particular MW visit is a big one? Bloods, blood pressure, measuring size, vaccines, how to make a birth plan...?

TobyLerone · 08/10/2013 11:07

My MW said she'll come to my house to do the birth plan much nearer the time. That might be because I won't know until my scan at 36 weeks whether it'll be a VB or a CS, though.

And she doesn't do bloods, so I have to have a separate appointment for them (and the vaccinations, obv).

Doesn't yours do blood pressure every time, Lalunya? Mine measured my bump at 25 weeks and I suppose she'll do it every visit now. She even gave me a little graph she'll plot it on every time! I know 25 weeks is unusual, though. Not quite sure why she did it that early, tbh.

MrsGSR · 08/10/2013 11:13

How many weeks are you sultana? My midwife didn't do bloods or measurements at my 25 week appointment and I don't have another until 31 weeks.

I had my flu jab today. Had to speak to the doctor as I'm on antibiotics but was fine :)

Does anyone know if we get free eyecare or is it just dentist/prescriptions? I had a really bad headache last night which I think was due to driving for 2 hours and doing a 3 hour exam without my glasses! They're really scratched so I need a new pair really.

Naturegirl82 · 08/10/2013 11:16

I'm booked in for my flu jab on Saturday. Will try and book whopping cough appointment then as well. Have to book mine through the gps.

Is everyone having the vaccines or are some people opting out? Just curious.

TobyLerone · 08/10/2013 11:16

We don't get free eyecare, sadly :(

Naturegirl82 · 08/10/2013 11:20

toby my mw measured my bump at 25 weeks as well. Bit annoying for you having to make separate appointments for bloods. Quite luckily for me my next scan is in two weeks not that I'm stressing or counting down to it at all!! and my mw comes to my scans so is going to do all my bloods etc at the same appointment

TobyLerone · 08/10/2013 11:24

It's funny how everything's different from place to place, isn't it?

Last time I had a baby, my mw did all the bloods, too. And NHS antenatal classes were 2 hours, once a week for 6 weeks (?). Now they're 2 half-day sessions a month or so apart. We're not going to them.

Lalunya85 · 08/10/2013 11:30

Actually, I think she does measure blood pressure toby - I'm just usually too excited about hearing baby's heartbeat to pay any attention.

Since she comes to my house, I don't think I'll be having bloods done at home either! My MW generally isn't too great - she never really gives me any information, I feel like I have to ask for everything, which makes me feel like a bit of a nuisance because she always seems to be in a rush to leave.

What are the pros and cons of vaccines? Has anyone read into this yet?

I also won't be able to do a birthplan until later - low lying placenta scan on 15th December at 34 weeks - but I will start making notes, assuming it'll be a VB. That's what the maternity helpline lady told me to do...
