pinkmanual pumps are useless in my opinion so you're much better off getting an electric one. I had a manual one and hardly got any milk from it.

meanandbumpy that baby stretching feeling sounds like Braxton hicks. Like you say, feels like baby is pushing bump out, get a weird pressure sensation and bump goes hard.

God, I'm so far behind a lot of you that have your nurseries almost sorted! I'm still trawling through the shit stuff in what was our office so we can clear it then paint. Going to be a month before it's finished I reckon. Ds2 is napping so i'd better crack on with some more!

Had the most weird dream last night, baby was born-a girl. I was over the moon then she opened her mouth and it was full of big crooked teeth then she went to latch on to my boob...I think it was at that point it turned into a nightmare!! Shock

Stom91 · 10/10/2013 13:05

Urgh rather annoyed after a wasted trip for an hospital appointment!! He didn't even know why I was there!! I said that my midwife wanted me to see him because of my hypermobility and he was like how do you know you have it!? I've been seeing a consultant every year since I was 12!!

He was so rude!!! Mum had to take the morning off work to take me aswell... I'm so annoyed!!

I felt quite upset after.. :/ Argghh!!!

PinkWitch803 · 10/10/2013 13:06

thanks Lady. I will check it out. Thhe breast pump was something I was buying new, but I feel more educated now.

Do they do a single pump option. I can't help thinking using a dual system would make me feel more like a cow! but to be honest, I can see the benefit of a double. Oh dear I am waffling!

qumquat · 10/10/2013 13:18

Thanks for the welcome ladies!

I bought a second hand Ameda Lactaline dual electric pump on Ebay and it looks great. You can use it as a single if you prefer. I read up on the closed vs open system thing, and Ameda Lactaline definitely seemed the best bet. Even if buying new I'd rather not have bits of the pump not being fully cleanable.

Having a slightly better day today, lessons a bit rubbish but at least I'm not crying constantly! A day and a half till the weekend!

LadyMedea · 10/10/2013 14:47

stom I hate it when a doctor you've been referred to asks you why you are there... And even worse when they automatically doubt an existing diagnosis rather than ask for a history.

My classic experience was seeing a new GP and saying I had ME. His response was 'what makes you think that?'... Err... About 4 GPs, a pediatrician, an NHS ME specialist and one of the world's leading medical experts on the subject.

Afternoon, all!

Pink So glad to hear you managed to sort out getting signed off of work in the end! It'll be so, so worth it in the long run Smile

Stom That's awful! I genuinely don't know how some people are allowed to work in the medical profession with that sort of attitude, let alone lack of background knowledge. I know it's not easy, but try and put those pregnancy hormones to good use and kick up a fuss!

You'll have to let me know how the breastfeeding class goes Feather - I've just booked onto one for the November, and onto an active birth class for 30th November.
It all feels very last minute as I'll be about 35 weeks by then, but at the moment I'm just happy that I've got a place after as I was so sure they'd all be full!

Had fun at the Mothercare event last night. I assumed it'd be a case of sitting and listening to people giving presentations for 2 hours but it was actually a lot more relaxed, with lots of experts positioned around the store for people to approach and chat to as and when they wanted to.
I think DP secretly enjoyed too it as he ended up buying a changing mat, a new moses basket mattress, 2 dribble bibs, a shampoo rinse jug, a nightlight, a healthcare kit (hairbrush, comb, nail scissors etc) and a new nursing bra for me... Which, with the event discount, all came to £48!
Oh and Bohemian, I think you might have a point! There were mini doughnuts, chocolate brownies, mini muffins, little coconut cakes and squash, so I can see why so many people were after tickets Wink

Managed to walk into town without feeling totally exhausted today (woohoo!) to sort out presents for DP. It's his 30th birthday on Saturday so I've been keeping myself busy planning surprises, buying decorations and ordering cake Grin
Think I'm more excited about it all than he is though, haha!

itsliz · 10/10/2013 15:16

Oops, that should've said 21st November, not 'the November'...

Featherbag · 10/10/2013 15:29

Quick message from Sainsbury's - Lansinoh cream is on special at £6.65!

musiceverywhere · 10/10/2013 15:31

HI!! OMG I can't believe its so long since I posted. Work has been mental so when I get home, I think my brain doesn't have enough capacity to write a coherent post! But I have the day off today so making the most of a bit of spare time. I have been reading everyone's posts though and keeping up to date with all your news.
Was so sad to hear Hetsto's news, I hope she's starting to recover (although I'm sure its something you never really get over).
Things ok here, lots of shuffling/kicking. Bump much bigger, finally invested in over-bump trousers for work-so much comfier than under bump. But trying to hold out without buying a winter coat- doesn't seem worth the money it for the time we've got left. Will just do lots of layers!
House is still a tip. Building site in back garden. Doesn't feel like we'll ever be sorted. But as long as the new kitchen is in and the nursery available for storage I reckon we'll be ok for the first few months.
Had whooping cough and flu vaccines last week. Put them in different arms, so wasn't comfy on either side in bed! :(
Three more weeks at work :) Its getting really tiring as am on my feet quite a lot. Definitely understand why all people with SPD are finishing sooner, it must be really difficult.
Have most people started packing bag? I keep putting it off, not sure why...

PinkWitch803 · 10/10/2013 16:00

ItsLiz that sounds like a bargain. I will look to see if there is a similar type event near me. I will have to make sure the timing is right as I don't want to scare DP. We are running behind with the house preperations, mainly because of me generously giving my loving OH my cold and chest infection and by taking him to a baby event it might give him a heart attack. I will wait until we are a little more complete me thinks!

Happy birthday to your mister, I remember working as a contractor for my 30th and I had a little more disposable income that I had ever been used to, so I went all out and hired a bucking bronko and portaloo. It was a really great day and my DP really enjoyed it too. It took me two days to clear up, but such is life. But he doesn't get overly excited about birthdays and plays along with me because I love them. My step son is 18 in Feb, so trying to do something special for him like send him and DP off to watch Liverpool play while I visit my friend to coo at the baby!

As for my bags, I am getting there. If I had to go to hospital today I would be ok and would only need DP to get a few bits and peices. but it isn't organised to my OCD standards LOL.

stom - complain :)

qumquat I am pleased your day is better than yesterday. We are all with you.

I have been listing all my work on a spreadsheet to give to my line manager and have reached 42 lines and I am sure there is more I have missed. I am now going through the 200 odd emails in my inbox to close some things down, add them to my list or say goodbye. It is quite tiring, but when it is done, on go the out of offices and off goes the computer

PinkWitch803 · 10/10/2013 16:10

mumoftwoboysS Thanks for the advice re manual pumps and sorry about your dream/nightmare. that isn't a nice thought let alone personal film in your head!

meandbumpy · 10/10/2013 16:32

Oh could it really be braxton hicks? That's exciting, thanks for letting me know mum

Stom91 · 10/10/2013 16:34

He was juat so rude!! What a wasted trip!! He's association site it says that it can affect pregnancy etc... That was the whole reason my Mw sent me to him!! He made me fee so small!

Yeah I'm going to have a moan to my midwife when I see her next week

Feeling so tired last couple days! I've found myself falling asleep in the afternoon! I haven't even don't anything.. Popped to town for 20 me n's is about the most I've done... I can't manage much as I'm so. Out of breath.. I hate pregnancy so much. Roll on December xx

PistachioTruffle · 10/10/2013 16:43

Itsliz, I'm Envy of your snacks, there were no refreshments at the store we went to! It did have a good atmosphere though, and We got a few things with the discount: a baby monitor, Moses basket mattress, bibs, mat and breast pads for the hospital bag and a couple of other bits.

Feather, thanks for the heads up on the Lansinoh! Here's hoping baby stays put until your cs date Flowers

BohemianRaspberry · 10/10/2013 18:26

Good luck Feather

I ended up getting a innosense pump from mothercare as it was on offer and recommended by a friend with a newborn.

Think our nursery is now ready but we need to put things on the walls to cheer it up even more.

Bag wise - I have a bag with some pants in it ... probably need to actually make the effort to pack it in the next couple of weeks. I just haven't had the time! Probably could do a better job doing the baby's bag rather than mine at the moment.

Although quite reassured by colleague at work today who said "oh I was busy buying nappies in early stages of labour I was that disorganised".

Stom91 · 10/10/2013 18:48

I havent even got a bag to put stuff in so you're more organised than me bohemian

Alyssa1978 · 10/10/2013 18:48

That sucks stom I had a mw appt today and she was very snotty, I don't know whether she was acting up for the medical student (who couldn't have looked any more uninterested about being a midwife if she tried) or she was having a bad day.

Everything I asked her about the pressure low down and bad cramps I had yesterday and everything else, the only response I got was well! That's part and parcel of being pregnant at this point I was very very pissed off that I replied with yes I'm well aware what happens when you're pregnant, this is the third time I've done this and you said you've got no kids I was only asking you! She apologised and when I asked her something else, she asked well didn't you ask your consultant.
Again I had to ask her what she would do if I was on midwifery led care and not consultant led.

Dp had to take me out the room, I was fuming Angry

mum are manual pumps really bad?? I have one i got for ds2 that I never used that I was gonna try.

Stom91 · 10/10/2013 20:13

Gosh sounds awful! I wish I could be upfront like that!! I'm too shy!

Alyssa1978 · 10/10/2013 20:42

I'm not normally that bad, more confrontational when pregnant than i am when not but I was just annoyed, you wait until an appt instead of bothering the labour ward etc and get met with those answers.

Just a bad day I guess.

feather gutted about the nipple cream, I already paid £10 Sad here's hoping little one stays in there and cooks for a few more weeks.

Was it on here someone mentioned raspberry leaf tea or capsules??
Anyone tried any in previous pregnancies, I was thinking of trying some from about 36ish weeks.

Stom91 · 10/10/2013 20:58

Yeah i was annoyed too but I was on my own and there was the consultant and a med student.. I felt abit 2 against one.... And he had the 'I'm not being told otherwise' attitude
It also took them 4 attempts to get my BP and when they did get it they wasn't really sure

I heard raspberry leaf tea can bring on labour? Is it nice?

ringaringarosy · 10/10/2013 20:58

Hi,im due December 19th with number 5,my other children are 5,4,3 and 1 so i will be busy,as usual!

Am having a home birth with this one as i did with dc3 and 4,would definitely recommend it to others if you are low risk.

Just wrt the pumps,i found the manual ones really bad,ive tried lots and best one ive found is either the medela swing or the medela electric mini,if you have big nipples make sure you buy a bigger shield though else it will make you sore and wont get as much out.

Alyssa1978 · 10/10/2013 21:08

Welcome ring wow 5 kids under 6 and I thought I was mad with 3 under 4 lol. Well done you.
Is this your last? Or you wanting a big big family?

At home births, is it only gas and air you're allowed?
My ds1 was due December 19th, he came November 30th.

froubylou · 10/10/2013 21:13

Hello ringa. Christ woman you must be mad busy lol.

Someone talk to me about iron levels. Have every symptom going. Tired, breathlessness and now a sore tongue. Level was 11.9 3 weeks ago. Is it possible it has dropped? Or that I would feel better with a higher count despite the side effects of tabs? Just feel shit.com lol.

I bought a cheap avent manual pump ages ago but not spending anymore on one. Cant see many occasions I will need to express and had a manual one last time. If I find I need something I'm sure that you can hire them from the local children's centre and they are the ones they use in hospital and it's a pound a week or something.

Can't stop farting today. Which is unfortunate as dp been at home lol.

5ammy · 10/10/2013 22:42

FroubyLou it was me with the 'dampness' - I spoke to MW who said to wear a pad and only worry if its dripping wet through, is a funny colour or smelly.

So I've just been wearing a pad.

X

mumoftwoboysS · 10/10/2013 23:07

frouby I've got a sore tongue-but just a patch at the side- is that a sign of low iron? Also tired and breathless a bit. Mw told me off for not getting my bloods done before my 28 wk appointment (I was supposed to know about the blood test form in my notes the previous mw didn't tell me about apparently Hmm and now I've had it done she hasn't called me about the results anyway! So I have no idea what my iron levels are doing.

Welcome ring also in awe, I'm scared of having dc3 (bit late now!) as some days I find 2 so hard!! (Aged 2 & 4)

I'm borrowing an electric breast pump from a friend but not sure if it's the open or closed type so a bit worried. I texted her to ask her what make it was and she said a 'medlemelia or something like that'. I think she must mean Medela or something like that!

God late night again. I can never go to bed early when DH is away, I just faff and waste time.
