I'm definitely believing the old wives tale about heartburn and your baby having hair. I just love babies with a shock of hair. I was born with a full head of v dark hair all sticking up despite being blonde mousy now.

Featherbag · 08/10/2013 15:06

I've moved onto ranitidine now too and it's really helping! Don't know how much truth there is in the hair thing, but have had horrific heartburn both times, DS had loads of hair even prem at 32 weeks, and this baby has so much hair already you could clearly see it on the scan I had last Monday!

I've had to do what I desperately wanted not to do, and come home from work because of the pelvic pain. I was in so much pain I couldn't concentrate, and the people I look after deserve better. I managed 7.5 hours of the shift but I still feel wretched about not managing to stick it out - being in yesterday and it being really busy didn't help, but I've got a few days off now so hopefully I'll be back for my next shift. We're so short staffed and I hate letting people down. Only 7 shifts to go!

MrsShrubs · 08/10/2013 15:35

featherbag don't feel bad at all, I just sit at a desk all day and do normal working hours and I feel pooped most of the time let alone running around and looking after other people so I don't know how you do it! Sometimes you've just got to put yourself first and take care of yourself, no cause to feel guilty at all Smile

whisper bless you hope you start to feel better again soon, you really seem to be going through the mill at the moment.

EmB1715 · 08/10/2013 16:13

thought it was worth mentioning - supermarket ranitidine is half the strength (75mg) of prescription (150mg). Dr has said I can take up to 300mg a day so I really think it's worth getting it on prescription for free if needed! Even then I'm still gulping gaviscon most days!

Hi all, I'm booked in to have the whooping cough jab tomorrow morning and they also want to give me the flu jab at the same time. Just wondering if anyone else has had them both on the same day and how it turned out? Bit concerned that it's going to knock me for six or whether it will affect the baby.

EmB1715 · 08/10/2013 17:39

Yep I did! It was ok. Felt a bit odd for a few days and the whooping cough one really hurt my arm so make sure it's on the side you sleep on least!

Featherbag · 08/10/2013 18:31

I had them both together, no side effects at all except a bruised arm on the whooping cough side!

froubylou · 08/10/2013 18:37

Omg. Just scoffed the lamb tangine I made in the slow cooker and it was to die for.

Find slow cooker wonders on fb, go into files and do the lamb tangine. Tis delish!

meandbumpy · 08/10/2013 18:44

Cheers EmB and Feather good to know!

Stom91 · 08/10/2013 18:50

I had the both together.. Had sore arms for a couple. Days but felt fine!

Spent the night in hospital last night after a night on thehospital bed in a ward of old biddies that can snore for England. I am glad to be home!

Dp get back from Budapest today can't tell you how much I need a hug from him!

Alyssa1978 · 08/10/2013 18:56

You ok stom ?

I never had the flu jab but I had the whooping cough and my arm was very sore and bruised for a few days.

Omg!!! My bump has gone even lower, it's a hell of a lot smaller than this morning and slopes all the way down until it hits my belly button. I had a lot of cramp earlier on, I wonder if that's why? Confused

MildredH · 08/10/2013 19:05

Gosh feather- DO NOT feel guilty. You do a flipin hard, physically demanding job.

Is it worth talking to them in advance about your remaining shifts? Are they 7 longs? I spoke to my consultant last week and she's agreed for me to do half days until I finish next week.. It's so frustrating as I'm feeling pretty well but walking around the ward is so painful.

Stom91 · 08/10/2013 19:29

Yeah I'm ok now. Was on a heart monitor all night x

WhisperMen · 08/10/2013 19:30

when are we meant to have the whooping cough jab?

meandbumpy · 08/10/2013 19:30

Thanks stom and Alyssa

Hope you're ok stom Thanks

Alyssa1978 · 08/10/2013 19:41

Heart monitor?? Hope you feeling ok stom

whisper its between 28 and 38 weeks pregnant Hun.

Stom91 · 08/10/2013 19:45

Yeah i had palpitations quite bad and couldn't breathe and a cough and a temperature and BP was raised... They kept me on a monitor all night to see if they could catch the palpitations but it didn't happen again! - typical. They're not sure if it's pregnancy related so just got to keep an eye on it and rest up...

Baby is fine.. Got to see her :)

itsliz · 08/10/2013 19:51

Lady Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely give that a go! Annoyingly, I popped to Morrisons before seeing your post and ended up getting Gaviscon tablets (just to see if tablets were any more effective than the liquid!) but I'll make sure I pick up some ranitidine next time instead.

And kerry I haven't been told I need a growth scan as the midwife said that she's perfectly happy with how things look at the moment (I'm 28 weeks and measuring 30cm, so not toooo bad!)
Hope all goes well at your scan though Smile

So, the whooping cough jab, flu jab, GDD test etc... I assume we only have to have them if we need them? Or are they compulsory?
Just wondering as none of the GPs or MWs I've seen have mentioned them to me!

WhisperMen · 08/10/2013 19:54

flu/whooping cough are our own choice if we have them or not and GDD is if you have any risk factors, if you were needed to have one then you would have already been told so don't worry itsliz (by the way, the grammar nazi in me always wants to correct your username and it makes me feel weird to type it wrong haha)

Featherbag · 08/10/2013 20:23

Oh no Stom, that must've been a rotten night for you! Hope you're feeling better x

Mildred they are 7 longs, but switching to shorter shifts means working 5 lates a week and I'm not sure I wouldn't just die on the spot at the thought of going from 7 left to 1 long and 10 lates! I need the rest days in between more than I don't need the long hours IYKWIM. If I have to go off earlier it's not the end of the world but I'd really like to get to 35 weeks before starting leave. Off duty's done so no chance of taking more holiday now, only option would be sick and I'll only do that if I literally can't work at all.

Featherbag · 08/10/2013 20:24

Is your consultant covering half your shifts with A/L, or are you just having to do more of them?

kchapper5 · 08/10/2013 21:05

Evening guys I'm currently stuffing my face till 10pm as I have my gtt tomorrow :( not got the first blood test till 10am and have no idea how I'm going to survive I've normally eaten at least twice by then :( any tips?
I know what you mean feather I'd rather do 7 long shifts than 11 shorter ones

MildredH · 08/10/2013 21:12

No, I'm literally just doing what I can manage. I am limping like anything. They ( surprisingly) were good about it. GP was keen to sign me off completely and since I'm due to finish next week I essentially said I'd rather do the half days than get signed off completely.

Luckily I've finished my on calls now and am just on the ward which is well covered this week.

If your GP did you a fit note to say you can only do 6/8 hour days your work couldn't make you do more shifts..

I do know the feeling of not wanting to leave your team short though. I'm just very lucky there are enough other doctors on the ward this week.

Think about getting a fit note if you're struggling. That's what they're there for- a compromise between being off completely and doing what you can..

Xenadog · 09/10/2013 07:26

Morning all. Stom hope you are ok and how lovely to see baby again.

Feeling like pants after a rubbish night's sleep, aching back and think I might have spd starting too as I have pain in my pelvic region at the front. Off to see nurse for my blood pressure check first thing (have to go every fortnight due to being old!) and will be asking her about having my wc and flu vaccines. DP has shouted at me today too - yep I was grumpy but I was in pain and knackered.

I'm getting ready for pregnancy to be over now- but still got 9 and a half weeks to go. Anyone else fed up with being pregnant? I know it's a natural process but wish it was a bit more pleasant! Anyway happy hump day guys - have a good one!
