Hi cherry. I think you only get growth scans if they're worried about stuff.. I haven't had any.. My last scan was at 20 weeks .. Though I'd love to see lil one again & I quite like to know how big she's got...

Let me know what the mw says about the shaking gannet!!

LadyMedea · 06/10/2013 23:03

Hi cherry unless you have any additional factors for your pregnancy i.e. high blood pressure, high BMI, dodgy blood results. You only get two scans at 12 and 20 weeks. baby's size is roughly monitored by your bump size and you might be referred for a scan if you are measuring well above or below dates (it's roughly a cm a week, so at 30 weeks bump measures approximately 30cm give or take). Some of the ladies on here have additional risk factors... I've got high BP so I get an additional scan at 36 weeks.

PinkWitch803 · 07/10/2013 00:06

I think growth scans relate to your fundal height measurements. If everything. Is hunky dory, there isn't a need for a growth scan. Although it may also have something to do with gestational diabetes. I am guessing, so someone else might know more.

I am getting a scan at 36 weeks to check my placenta has moved but otherwise no other scans planned.

BohemianRaspberry · 07/10/2013 00:26

I was 1.5cm over last time and they mentioned the possible need for a growth scan.

Hope everyone else is managing a good night's sleep Smile

thecherryontop · 07/10/2013 01:33

Thanks ladies, I was told I had an anterior placenta at each scan -think I will ask the midwife at next appointment... I think maybe because each time I go to the midwife it's a different one -doesn't give me as much confidence as if it was the same one each time. Hope that makes sense... Maybe I just need to relax!?!

Do any if you who struggle with spd not sleep at night? -I'm now in the routine of not sleeping till almost 4 as by then I'm so tired and can sleep through it better.

PinkWitch803 · 07/10/2013 03:01

I have an anterior placenta and they still only plan to scan you if they see any problems. Mone happens to be low lying so they need to check it is out of the way of the os at 36 weejs or it is cs for me. Sorry if I wasn't clear earlier. Also, i had a bleed at 26 weeks so they did a scan to check placenta was still fully attached.

PinkWitch803 · 07/10/2013 03:03

Have you tried sleeping with a pillow between your knees and under your bump? Have you been refered to physio for it by your mw?

thecherryontop · 07/10/2013 03:13

Oh ok I understand,

yes -I've had physio, got the pillow, been fitted for a brace and am on crutches... Just glad there's not long left! I'm not getting any more physio as they said it can't be reversed so just need to try & manage it. I've been signed off work which helps as I'm not stressing as much about that on top of everything else and can take things at my own pace & lie down etc when I need to.

PinkWitch803 · 07/10/2013 04:26

I am discussing work with my consultant this week and can't help thinking being signed off would be better. I get myself so wound up about work that I get less sleep than normal! Tonight is a prime example. I am going back to work after two weeks off sick and had approximately two hours sleep. I am shattered, but everytime I lie down to sleep, my eyes ping open, or my bladder tells me I need to pee.

I just hope that with tonight and work later, I will sleep tomorrow night and not be ill in between. Oh I sound like such a grumpy old woman when I am usually so positive and cheery :(

PinkWitch803 · 07/10/2013 04:29

Sorry about your psd. Make sure you do your pelvic floor exercises, you want to give your pelvis the best chance possible :)

Plus, I find it helps with pelvic pain :)

DaleyBump · 07/10/2013 04:44

I've not been on here in AAAAAAGES. Bear (eh Whisper? Wink) with me while I catch up!

DaleyBump · 07/10/2013 04:56

Pink it sounds like you could do with some time off :( remember if you take too long off on sick it starts to use up your mat leave (or something, I might be talking rubbish).

cherry I totally feel for you, I have only mild SPD and I'm really struggling. I have trouble sleeping at night too, it's 10 to 5 and I've not slept yet and I have such a busy day tomorrow with wedding planning and flat-going-to-see and a midwife appointment (must pee in pot, must pee in pot).

I've been off on mat leave since 29 weeks (now 32+2) because I was unable to participate in my uni course (nursing) and my choice was either to defer for a year (unpaid) or to go on mat leave for 45 weeks (paid). I took the mat leave but I'd already been off since May which is when my last course finished so I am totally stir crazy. I'm in my 6th month of being off, I can't take it any more!

stom and gannet and mum, I've been getting that funny vibration too, It really confuses me! No idea what it is!

Is anyone else's belly clicking? It started a couple of weeks ago and I asked about it here and apparently it's not uncommon, it's so weird though!

I've had about 10 scans so far (blush) because of periods of reduced movement which totally used to panic me but now when it happens I just get all huffy and fed up that I have to travel an hour and a half to sit in the hospital for four hours to be told everything is fine and then travel the hour and a half back again. It's really stressful having to keep a kick count (on request of the consultant) but at least it means I know when I should be worrying.

On a side note, my belly button popped out today. Properly out and won't go back in. I kind of love it.

That was a huge ramble, sorry!

DaleyBump · 07/10/2013 04:58

Or Blush even.

meandbumpy · 07/10/2013 05:35

Hello ladies, I'm due December 10th with my first bambino, can I join you? Smile

PinkWitch803 · 07/10/2013 06:11

Hello meandbumpy, welcome.

daleybump I have looked into sick/maternity leave. Work can put me on mat leave four weeks before my due date which is only two weeks earlier than I had booked, so can suck it up . The only thing I need to check out is what will happen to my annual leave. Technically, I have to use it before April as I can't carry it over tax years, but they might make an exception!

I am sorry you are bored. Have you picked up any hobbies?

meandbumpy · 07/10/2013 06:35

Thanks PinkWitch803

It's comforting to read about others that are suffering with aches and pains and the lack of sleep that comes with them; I usually find I'm up from about 4am for a few hours every night.
Does anyone else have upper back pain, just below the shoulders and along the spine? I did try a pregnancy yoga dvd earlier on but as I've got bigger it's become impossible and just made things worst. I've read that a few people have been referred for physio and wondering if there's a knack to getting this? I've been to see both my midwife and doctor about the pain i'm in and they keep shrugging it off as 'just a pregnancy thing'. Perhaps I should be more of a drama queen about it and kick and scream til they do something!? Any advice welcome!!

itsliz · 07/10/2013 08:24

DaleyBump, thank you so, so, soooo much for mentioning peeing in a pot!!! I've got my 28 week appointment this morning and definitely would've forgotten if I hadn't read your post!

A very warm welcome to all our newbies! Smile
If you haven't already done so, feel free to add yourselves to our stats thread and/or Facebook group.

I'll post properly with links etc later, but for now I'm off to make sure I don't forget anything else before waddling down to the doctor's surgery...

LadyMedea · 07/10/2013 08:28

Hey meandbumpy It seems to be easy enough to get a physio referral for SPD (although mine took over two weeks and is a group session... So we'll see how useful it is on Wednesday) but if it's your upper back they may not put it in the same category. You could always do what I do and look it up on YouTube and see if there are anything specific exercises to try! Otherwise it's go private if you can afford it or paracetamol and hot water bottle...

your bear made it over here too dale What a well travelled bear!

Welcome meandandbumpy

to all those counting down till mat leave I feel for you. Pregnancy is bloody hard work without adding the stress of work on top. I have been unemployed/studying for the last few years which isn't fun. Money is always such an issue.

I think my step sister might have PND. She has had her baby for about 4 months and has recently stopped going out anywhere to meet anyone and is acting really differently. I am going to see her today with cake to try and find out what is wrong. Does anyone have any advice?

PinkWitch803 · 07/10/2013 09:25

Google. You might find some useful advice. Maybe call the midwives for advice.

Try the nhs websites and try lift psychology (the Swindon site has had great feedback)

Morning guys after being in horrendous pain from what I'm guessing is spd since Friday I've not gone into work and am at the drs in half an hour. I plan on being quite dramatic Grin and to be fair I've been in tears with the pain trying to walk upstairs which isn't like me at all. I didn't even cry when I chipped my spine by falling off my rearing horse onto concrete.
Not much advice from me I don't have much experience of pnd just try talking to her I guess see what you can do to help in anyway. Hope she's ok

Alyssa1978 · 07/10/2013 10:01

Ahhhhh day one of a week off....having to use the last of my annual holidays in case I don't go back until after April next year and I'd loose them.

Only 3 weeks to work when I get back then I start mat leave, I'll be 36 weeks then, but every child I've had I've gone into labour exactly a week after starting mat leave Hmm

So sorry to hear about all the pain everyone's having.
I'm not feeling kicks anymore, just full on pushes etc, he must have ran out of room.

Enjoy your days everyone.

Welcome newbies Flowers

Alyssa1978 · 07/10/2013 10:04

Forgot to say when packing your hospital bag it's a good idea to put a Plastic bag in, to hold any wet towels etc after showering.

Ooh I just remembered I didn't put nappies bags in babies case and boy did I need them last time and time before.

abcdemma · 07/10/2013 10:25

Hey meandbumpy
Just under 3 weeks left of work for me, can't bloody wait!!! Suffering with my back but by the time I get a referral it'll be time to leave so I'll have to suck it up! Deep heat pads have been helping but they bloody slip off after a couple of hours so they go in the bin Envy
Serious case of baby brain this morning... made sure I had the morning off for flu jab, got up early and everything, only to arrive and be told it's tomorrow! Mortified lol.
Hope everyone feels good/better today Smile

meandbumpy · 07/10/2013 10:47

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the advice LadyMedea. I have another doctors appointment tomorrow morning to try again and will look on youtube today for help in the meantime. I think I'm getting SPD as well (pains in my pelvis and hips that make it hard to walk) and they've been quite casual about that too. I think the midwives here tend not to get too involved unless you're high risk in some way. If it's just aches and pains and the usual annoyances you're told to deal with it and sent on your way.
In fact if I didn't have mumsnet and One Born for research I'd have been completely clueless about pregnancy and birth! Anyway, hope you're physio session goes well and gives you relief Smile

I don't know much about PND either but my best friend has had depression for years now and the best thing I've been able to do to help is to just be there and listen. Quite often she has odd or strange thoughts and I think it's good for her to know that she can voice them and I won't judge her or make her feel like a crazy person. Also, plenty of sleep, exercise and a healthy diet seem to do wonders, but I imagine these are like gold dust when you have a new born baby to look after.
