Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Stom91 · 06/10/2013 17:54

:) me and dp made up and he got me a bunch of red roses to say sorry... He left at 8am this morning and I now won't see him until really late Tuesday :(
I really hate it when he's away. I really miss him..

Here's to a sleep filled week for all those who haven't been getting much x

Gannetgob · 06/10/2013 18:16

Glad your sis is doing ok frouby and that you and DP have made up stom.

Tomorrow will be better than you think pink. I'm dreading going back after having 3 days off, so it must seem much worse for you! We will be fine though!

I haven't started my hospital bag yet. Seems like I need loads! Better get on with that soon!

Does anyone have a shaky baby? Baby is vibrating and I'm not sure why. It only happens for a second or 2, but my whole bump seems to just shake. Anyone else?

Nom, I've looked at those lilypadz but I'm still pretty clueless. Will they catch the milk or just absorb it? What are the shells you speak of? Who knew leaky boobs could cause such a fuss?

BohemianRaspberry · 06/10/2013 18:22

stom saw your pretty roses on fb Smile

Haven't started on bag yet - really need to think about that! Think I have all the stuff, it's just a case of assembly.

Managed to burn out for the day though: walking at the gym, walking all around town, standing in the kitchen cooking and hoovering all downstairs may have been overdoing it. Now out for the count on the sofa, DH may have to do tea at this rate.

It might mean I sleep tonight though. Wink

Stom91 · 06/10/2013 18:38

gannet I've been getting the same thing... Not sure what it Is... Maybe baby is shivering? Lol... I got like pops earlier like baby had hiccups. I'm not really getting full on kicks just small movements

NomDeClavier · 06/10/2013 18:52

breast shells

Lilypadz are like breast pads but instead of letting the milk drip out and absorbing it they actually stop your boobs leaking by creating a seal using suction. You get a tiny amount of leakage but it's not the dripdripdrip with breast pads and the bonus is if you get chafed or cracked nipples when BFing they promote moist wound healing but keeping your nipple damp in nice antibacterial breast milk instead if conventional pads which will dry your nipple and make the pad stick to the fragile skin.

Shells are a bit like the boob equivalent of a moon cup and standard pads are like sanitary towels!

Glad DP has seen sense stom

Xenadog · 06/10/2013 19:36

Nom thanks for that bit of info about the lilypadz - I did wonder how they worked and what they did.

Not sure about BFing - I think if it works right from the start I will pursue it but if not I'm not putting myself through the stress of trying to get a baby to feed. I know too many people who have struggled and really suffered when trying to get a baby to breast feed. What are everyone else's plans?

Just had roast pork dinner with crackling and it was so lovely. Not really wanting to go back to work tomorrow as I had open morning on Saturday so only had one and a half day weekend. Boo.

Hope everyone gets a decent Sunday night sleep too.

Alyssa1978 · 06/10/2013 20:08

Mmmmm dp is making us steak, veg, roast potatoes and puddings, can't wait.
He also finished painting the nursery today while I was at work, one wall blue and the rest white, looks lovely bless him.
Growth scan tomorrow at 3pm, bump was 2llb 7oz 5 weeks ago at 27 weeks so it'll be interesting to see how much weight he's put on.

Lucky you stom I love roses.

Thank you for the nappy tip on amazon who recommended it, I got 2 boxes of newborn, 2 of size 2 and 10 packs of buggies wipes all for £40, very happy with that Grin

Alyssa1978 · 06/10/2013 20:09

Huggies wipes that is lol

Chilli81 · 06/10/2013 20:17

I feel slightly better now I've started to get organised. got loads of maternity pads and breast pads at mothercare as they were 3 for 2. also got these gel pads to soothe your boobs when your milk first comes in. you can put them in the fridge or warm them. don't know if they'll work but they were reduced to 4 quid from around 15 so thought I'd give them a try.
gannet I found breast feeding quite tough at first with ds1 but it was something I really felt strongly I wanted to do. some.lucky women find it easy but I didn't. I persevered though and so glad I did. once I got the hang of it, it was so convenient and cheap not to mention the health benefits to baby. I understand though that it's a sensitive subject and I totally don't agree with putting yourself through it if you are finding it all too much. there's so much pressure to bf that sometimes I find women pour undue pressure on themselves and end up miserable. my approach was very much taking it one day at a time knowing everyday I was able to bc was beneficial to my baby but that I would stop if it became too much. sorry if that's a really long rant but when ds1 was born I found myself totally unprepared for bf and felt like a failure when it wasn't really straight forward.

Stom91 · 06/10/2013 20:17

Bargain! Glad in could help lol....

Is it 10 movements and hour or 10 movements a day???

Chilli81 · 06/10/2013 20:19

oops just realised it was xenadog not ,gannet,, who posted about bf. that's the problem with posting on smartphones. once you start writing you can't go back. Wink

itsliz · 06/10/2013 20:32

Hope the scan goes ok tomorrow Alyssa Smile Got my 28 week appointment tomorrow so fingers crossed my midwife is happy with how little bean is getting on...

DP has been an absolute star today and cooked us a Sunday roast with the full works - roast beef, veg, yorkshire puds, stuffing, gravy, roast potatoes, mmmm Grin
We're now lazing on the sofa feeling very full, new Yankee Candle burning, rubbish telly on... Perfect way to end the weekend!

Hope you all get a good sleep tonight and have a relaxing, stress-free, pain-free week!

EmB1715 · 06/10/2013 20:34

Frouby glad your sis is doing well. Must be so scary to have an operation when pregnant.

We're starting our NCT antenatal classes tomorrow night. Has anyone done/is anyone doing them too? Don't know what to expect!

EmB1715 · 06/10/2013 20:34

Oh and Whisper congrats to your DP. which charity did he raise for?

PinkWitch803 · 06/10/2013 20:44

Stom, it is per hour.

Xenadog · 06/10/2013 20:46

Chilli I think that's the right attitude about BF.

One friend who had her first baby in New Zealand told me the story of how her DS couldn't feed from her and he ended up losing loads of weight during the first 2 weeks. The nurses and HV kept telling her to persevere and showed her loads of videos about feeding your own baby but in all the videos the women were maori women.

Finally my friend was crying on a new HV's shoulder and the HV told her to just give him formula and not to worry as she has "European nipples" and they aren't very good for bfing with!

NomDeClavier · 06/10/2013 20:53

xena I didn't find BF 'easy' - we had recurrent thrush and it was time consuming, and DS had undiagnosed lip and tongue tie but it was something I was very focused on doing and tbh if I'd stopped it might have pushed me over the edge with PND. This time I guess I'm in the lucky position that I know I can do it physically, I'm training to support other people so I know about the possible problems and how to combat them and I hopefully won't have PND so won't feel that FF is a 'failure'. Expressing may be impractical and the odd feed after 6 weeks isn't going to mess up my supply irrevocably. But I do plan to BF exclusively as much as possible because I've worked 24/6 which full time FF babies and it's so much more tiring.

I do know that if it's not going well it's worth getting what support you can, but if you can't get that support FF isn't poison as long as you're preparing feeds correctly.

Featherbag · 06/10/2013 21:10

Watching Downton is giving me flashbacks to DS's teeny tiny newborn days, I just CAN'T WAIT to meet his little brother!

Gannetgob · 06/10/2013 21:23

Thanks Nom. Lilypadz do seem like the way forward! Thanks for your help! I really want to BF but I am not going to put pressure on myself. If it works, it works, if not, no problem. I'll give it a go and see what happens!

Stom, glad its not just me with the shaking! I might ask the midwife about it on Wednesday.

Em, I start my NCT classes on Thursday. Are you doing a normal antenatal course? Mine is about 14 hours I think, a few nights then an all day Saturday in a few weeks. I'm feeling a bit nervous about it I think. You will have to let me know how it goes!

Any changing bag recommendations? I thought a changing bag is a changing bag. I've been told this is not the case and there is lots to think about!

EmB1715 · 06/10/2013 21:40

Gannet..yes normal antenatal course, average 2 evenings a week. I'm looking forward to it just worried about long days at work and then being out all evening! It's an hour's drive away bleurghh! I'll let you know how it goes Smile

Xenadog · 06/10/2013 21:53

Nom I think I might be turning to you for advice on the old BF stakes in about 10 - 12 weeks time then! I have no idea about any of what's going to happen to me as haven't been called for the antenatal classes yet!

PinkWitch803 · 06/10/2013 22:31

I am doing the NHS classes and not NCT. I am happy I will get the advice I need and get to meet some other pregnant ladies. The only downer is that as they are in the daytime, my DP can only make it to two of the four. But he is going to see if work will release him!

As for changing bags, I read not to worry too much about the bag until your little one arrives. You might want a cavernous sack, but you might find it easier to have compartments and be uber organised. Also, don't get too caught up on spending too much money on a fancy bag. You might get just what you need from one of those bag shops in every town centre!

PinkWitch803 · 06/10/2013 22:32

But one strap to hang on the buggy is also a good idea.

thecherryontop · 06/10/2013 22:48

Hi everyone! Feel like I'm learning so much trying to catch up on all of your posts Grin just wondered if anyone could help me; I've seen growth scans mentioned a few times... I'm 31 weeks and none of the midwives I've seen have mentioned another scan -last one I had was at 25 weeks as the baby was in the wrong position to measure the heart at 20 weeks.. Is this something I should be getting or does it depend where you live? -I'm in london and to say the ante natal department is manic would be an understatement! They haven't given me any indication of weight at all... In a way I'd like to know so that I can mentally prepare for it :) during the last scan the sonographer was manually entering some info and didn't put anything about weight? Hope someone can help SmileXx

mumoftwoboysS · 06/10/2013 22:53

Well DH did apologise in the end for his rant about my spending. He says he wasn't having a go at me (could have fooled me!) and is just frustrated by how much 'we' are spending. So anyway, new action plan to spend less now....I know he's also a bit stressed as he left to go on a business trip for a week so had a lot on his mind. (just wish he wouldn't take it out on me)

left with 2 very demanding kids plus potty training one of them, plus horrendous back ache. Thank god my mum came over for dinner and helped with the cooking/tidying at least.

Xena I'm very keen to BF but having failed before, seem to really struggle with it so am a bit anxious about it all going pear shaped again. But it won't stop me trying.

Nom thanks for info on Lilipadz - I hadn't heard of them before and sound like just what I need- I remember the pain of using throw away breast pads and them sticking to my already sore nipples- and if there's one thing I need is something to help them heal as I'm dreading sure I'm going to get sore cracked nipples again. Will add them to my list of essentials.

actually whilst we're on the subject of BF, Nom do you know if a clicking sound is normal when BF? I read somewhere that it means the latch isn't good. I had this with DS2 and tho he seemed to be feeding contentely there was a definite clicking sound when he sucked. A day or so later I had badly cracked bleeding nipples Sad I do also have flat nipples and don't know if that means I'm at a disadvantage as they are pulled out unnaturally when they're feeding if you know what I mean?

stom and gannet I've been getting that too- almost like a shudder or vibration that starts then stops quite suddenly. I have thought about it and can't imagine what baby is doing in there but assume it's normal - especially if other people have felt it too!

I had a roast too, yum, so full, but just got hungry again so had some cereal. Time for bed now me thinks!
