Ali it's a good name Grin

Another thing I like about it is that when this baby's born will be 2014 - 100 years since Dylan Thomas was born :)

Feel pathetic and rubbish again. Hate these hormones! I have a massive fear of anything small and flying; moths and daddy long legs in particular. Everyone laughs at me and no-one seems to understand that it's a control thing; I can't get them out of my personal space and I can't just ask them to stop and they will; if they land on me I might not know about it until I find out and then I'll know they've been on me and I'll feel disgusting, and it really is a big control issue for me and that's always been a problem, but people laugh and think it's stupid. Everyone's in the kitchen and I've just had to leave because there's one in the kitchen and now I'm upstairs feeling sorry for myself Sad

moominleigh94 · 03/10/2013 19:51

randdom I understand that and I've had a lot of students take blood; at hospitals etc and never leave a mark, but I think the one in my case really was down to inexperience and refusing to listen to me and my notes, even after three times she refused to stop and tried twice more despite it causing me pain Sad when she did it in the right vein, it barely bruised at all.

I have a lot of respect for doctors, nurses, midwives, anyone in healthcare - heck I want to retrain as a midwife when I'm older! - but I did request to never have blood taken by this nurse again.

Minions · 03/10/2013 19:52

Hello Maybies. 1.5 hours commute home (stupid traffic) in front door and straight up the stairs into bed! Can't wait for ms to end....

I've got my booking appt next Wed. Did anyone/is anyone taking their DH along? I'm ok going myself but I don't want him to miss out on anything. He's happy either way.

Isean, I got a private scan in Glasgow for £39 at 8 weeks +5 and it's the best money we've spent! Hope you can find something reasonable near you, I know how you feel waiting.

dobedobedo · 03/10/2013 19:58

minions my dh came to my booking because the midwife did it at our house. He wants to go to everything, he's very enthusiastic bless him. I'm glad because she wanted to know some things about his family medical history that I didn't know. I do hope he manages to dial down the enthusiasm though, it's rather annoying when I want to ask if certain toilet troubles are normal and he's there, practically taking notes! Blush

dobedobedo · 03/10/2013 20:03

Does anyone know if morning sickness peaks at all? I'm 8+4 and it's getting worse and worse. I don't know if I've managed to keep anything down today. I'm definitely getting sickness bands and crystallised ginger tomorrow!

hobbjobb · 03/10/2013 20:12

Dylan is in our top 3 boys names too, seems like its popular!
It's really lovely to keep up to date with everyone's progress.

I have my booking in appt on the 15th Oct so not too long to wait. I'll be 9+1 then so pretty quick!

Does none else have experience of being very overweight? I'm 6foot tall and prob have a BMI close to 40 (haven't weighed myself in ages) and I'm a little worried I'm going to be torn to pieces by midwives/doctors.
I am fairly fit though and have no health probs and everyone is always surprised at how much I weigh as I carry it well being so tall! I'm worried they'll tell me I can't have this and I can't do that...

loopylou52 · 03/10/2013 20:22

I read that for the average person morning sickness peaks around weeks 8-9, so I'm clinging on to the hope it won't get any worse and will start to improve soon. I've felt much better today so really hoping it lasts (but am off work and not doing much so I suspect it'll get worse again next week).

My DH is planning to come to my booking appointment. I don't expect him to come to all the appointments but think it's nice for them to feel involved. I'm also a bit worried about how I'll cope with having blood taken if I'm feeling sick/weak at the time so it'll be nice to have him there just in case.

Minions · 03/10/2013 20:33

Thanks dobedo and loopylou, sounds like a good plan to have him there.

I'm 10+3 and ms hasn't eased any but I'm more used to it now. I'm focussing on Christmas when I'm sure I'll be feeling better and can tuck into all the gorgeous Christmas food :D

dobedobedo · 03/10/2013 20:36

hobb my bmi is over thirty (forget what it is exactly) and I didn't really get a hard time. Midwife said I was at risk health wise because of it, but she seemed fairly happy that I was eating right and all that. I am aiming to not put on any weight during this pregnancy because I really don't need to! With all this nausea, I've even lost weight, so that's one plus point. I won't diet though, but since eating has become such a chore, I hope I don't gain too much at least!

dobedobedo · 03/10/2013 20:38

Oh loopy I hope it improves soon! My manager is off for a week so I can't even take time off cos I have to run the branch. Bloody awesome timing. Thing is, I don't even have it as bad as some people have! I must be a wuss! Confused

hobbjobb · 03/10/2013 20:38

Thanks dobe that's reassuring!

McBaby · 03/10/2013 20:42

Nearly 10 weeks now and it feels likes ending sickness is on its way out after a horrendous few weeks. Bad days are not so bad and have good days in between :)

I also stopped the pregnacare and just raking folic acid tablets which seems to be helping.

Someone told me I looked pregnant today! I know I did by 13 weeks last time so I guess it's to be expected earlier. But I looked full term by 26 weeks last time...so hoping its bit much earlier!

Also got some horrible SPD twinges today when lifting my 14 month old in and out of her cot. Time to get referral to the physio.

AliOh · 03/10/2013 20:45

dobedo my morning sickness seems to have peaked (I think) and is now tailing off - I think I had it pretty easy though, mostly just nausea. But it might just be that im learning to manage it better as I've found as long as I keep nibbling throughout the day then I don't feel as sick.

LongTailedTit · 03/10/2013 20:45

Ooh glad to hear ms peaks around wk 8/9, I'm 9+4 and sooo ready for it to piss off already!!

Re the blood taking, I've been left-arm-only for more than a decade, as whenever they've tried my right bad things have happened ie going thru a nerve etc.
HOWEVER... I had a ton of vials drawn this week at midwife's req, but at my local hospital by a v charming nurse (phlebotomist?) who said she'd try the right arm anyway - I gave her the Hmm face, but she hit a great vein on first try, no pain, no bruise, no issues at all! Weird. Either the previous needle-wielders were crap or she had mad skillz. :)

BananaHammocks · 03/10/2013 20:56

When did you all start getting morning sickness? Did it start small?? You're all talking about waiting for it to bugger off but I think mine is just starting! Been feeling a bit queasy the last few mornings but not too bad.

Update on the shite doctor - I called the surgery, cancelled the nurse appointment for next week and asked if I could just bring a urine sample after work, so did that yesterday and rang today, I am now all official!! The receptionist has put my LMP on my notes and that I am 6-7 weeks and will let the midwife decide, yay!

How long did it take until the midwife called you once your details were given? Apparently she does a home visit for the booking in apt, did many of you get a home visit?

loopylou52 · 03/10/2013 21:20

I seemed to start with mild nausea (I.e. needing to keep eating to keep it at bay) almost immediately (from 4 weeks) but it ramped up around 6 weeks. I do feel like it's improved since then so I think the fact that I was really tired and run down at the time made it worse. Or maybe I'm just managing it better now like others have said. I feel like I'm being a wuss too as I haven't actually vomited so should be grateful! I'm taking extra vitamin b6 also, which is meant. Not sure how much difference that has made to the improvement but worth a try for those suffering.

moominleigh94 · 03/10/2013 21:31

Banana I went to the midwife clinic at the doctors for my first meeting, and then she's coming over to my house on Monday (I'll be 10+6) for my booking in :) so if my housemates leave the place in a state there'll be trouble!

thistlelicker · 03/10/2013 22:58

Our girls names are isablle(izzy) Olivia (Livy) or Freya, boy is Liam or Logan !

moominleigh94 · 03/10/2013 23:09

Gorgeous names thistle :)

ThePFJ · 03/10/2013 23:15

My veins are difficult to find, but a good phlebotomist or hospital bloods person can do it instantly, no marks or bruising. I might write a general letter to the supervisor of midwives anonymously to highlight my concern... It'll keep ol Dad happy..... that way I don't have to upset my MW she is really nice....

We still haven't decided a boys name... it's so hard o.O

ThePFJ · 03/10/2013 23:39

Why don't we add a tab to the stats page with our names down the side and two large columns for our top 5 girls and top 5 boys names on them??? What do you think?

ThePFJ · 03/10/2013 23:41

For some reason I no longer have access to the stats?? Anyone else locked out?
