Wow number 5!! Congratulations Xavielli! Mine will be number 4, I really didn't think I would ever get a number four, but dh had a change of heart over the summer which I am still in shock about!!

dobedobedo · 30/09/2013 13:29

Carrots and HP sauce for lunch. It's just struck me as a very "pregnant" thing to eat!

ThePFJ · 30/09/2013 13:30

Kri5ty Added you to the stats xxxxxxxx

thistlelicker · 30/09/2013 13:44

I've just woke up from a snooze and feel my bladder is going to burst!!

NannyPlumForPM · 30/09/2013 13:49

Congrats pfj did they not siphon off ALL your blood then?!

I am trying to get my booking in appt a little earlier... I think 17th Oct I will be about 11 weeks? Seems quite late to have a booking in appt since I've known for so long...

Just had the BIGGEST ham and cheese sandwich from the sandwich shop. I can't even breathe in my bump....

NannyPlumForPM · 30/09/2013 13:50

thistle get thee off mumsnet and to a toilet asap!

thistlelicker · 30/09/2013 13:54

Hahahaa going for a wee is the best thing in the world !!

moominleigh94 · 30/09/2013 14:19

Found out today that I have to audition for Little Shop Of Horrors at my uni (was hoping to do tech), so that I can do tech for the uni production of Under Milk Wood at Easter time (pfffft let's see if that's going to happen!).

So I've asked if I can audition to be the voice of the plant even though I'm a girl, because it means I'll be offstage so no-one will have to see a bump Grin

moominleigh94 · 30/09/2013 14:26

Oh and another thing - I know I've asked about flu jab before, but will I be able to discuss it with the midwife tomorrow at my booking in?

I know some people aren't bothering, but I'm worried because I'm at uni, and a course that requires you to be in close proximity to people for up to 10 hours a day - and doing activities that can leave you run down - would I be best to get it?

lolablu · 30/09/2013 14:35

id speak to mw. i have mw appt tm too.. hopefully they wont be too bossy with my lack of eating. iv managed a packet of crisps today and not able to get out of bed without feeling realy sick :(

NannyPlumForPM · 30/09/2013 15:12

Is your DP/DH not being bossy lolablu? Mind almost demanded a food diary the other day as he came home and saw 2 packs of nice n' spicy niknaks eaten for my tea. I had a LECTURE (bear in mind he's normally a very laidback 29 year old bloke)

lolablu · 30/09/2013 15:17

hes a nutrionist ad hes being quite laid back.. but he keeps buying me new food as and when i feel like trying it. and he doesnt like me being sick when i eat too much :( roll on cravings and eating too much lol

loopylou52 · 30/09/2013 15:23

Sorry to hear you're feeling so bad lolablu. I was feeling quite sick earlier until I ate a load of bread and cheese, but didn't feel as weak/ill with it as I have being.

Moomin - I'm having the flu jab. There are a couple of threads in the pregnancy section debating it at the moment. It doesn't seem like there are many negatives (apart from that I hate needles!) and having full blown flu in pregnancy can be nasty.

ThePFJ · 30/09/2013 15:57

Ok girls, I am back and I'll give you a run down of my booking in MW appointment if you like.....

I had my weight and height measured and was asked to pee in a cup to check for infections etc. I was drained of blood by the student MW - the horror... and had three vials filled and sent off for tests. I was given a bounty pack, with a folder to keep my MW notes inside. I was asked A LOT of questions. Including is DH the father of your baby? Does DH have any children outside our relationship? Is DH related to you? If so please say 2nd cousin, 3rd cousin or Other. o.O ...erm... I was quizzed on all medication I have taken in the last 12 months. Whether I smoked, have I ever smoked, do I smoke or have ever smoked hash? Do I do drugs? Have I ever done drugs? I was asked about every operation I have EVER had... my memory was really being stretched at that point. I was asked about family medical ailments, mental ailments, and family histories of miscarriage or still births. I was asked for dates and the details on my previous miscarriages. I was asked if I took folic acid before I fell pregnant.

She gave me info on antenatal groups doing yoga, walking, baking, veg picking, standing on their heads.. literally every local group doing something strange... Grin
I was offered a Flu Jab, and a Whooping cough vaccination for later in the pregnancy. We talked about the downs syndrome test, I declined. We booked my dating scan for week 12 and my next MW appointment, with all the contact numbers for weekday and weekend should I need a MW to talk to. She booked me to see a consultant at the hospital of my choice and sorted everything out. Including the kitchen sink.
She asked me what questions I wanted to ask.. so I talked about elective c-sections - She said I have total choice on that one, it's up to me, but we still have lots of time to decide. Apparently they don't do them early now (37 weeks) They book them at 39 weeks onwards or if you fall into labour early they run you down for the c-section from there if that was your choice.

So have your thinking hat on when you go. There are A LOT of questions to answer!!!! Confused Smile

ThePFJ · 30/09/2013 16:03

moomin Feed me Seymour!

Lent1l · 30/09/2013 16:05

Hi, new here as only just found this thread. Current thinking is due 10th May with my second. We've named it Pip (first was Lentil and stuck throughout).

Currently eating as though there is no tomorrow as it seems to be the only thing that keeps the queasiness at bay. Also very tired, no energy for anything and in bed before 10 most nights. Was same last time so know another 4 weeks and energy should be back to normal. Hate all the emails that keep telling me I should only put on about 10kg, as weight already rocketing and that's just depressing.

Ah well, back to work.

lolablu · 30/09/2013 16:15

nomy. just had a french stick loaded with philly and ham. il have another of that! thats a great bit of info for me pfj.. looking forward to tm, now i know what to expect. welcome lent1l :)

thistlelicker · 30/09/2013 16:16

They as about being married to cousins as it can cause genetic defects!!!! They also want to makes ure everybody is well supported and have excellent health..... I work with midwives they keeping me in the know

moominleigh94 · 30/09/2013 16:21

ThePFJ that is so helpful! (mainly the bit about the booking in, but also the song suggestion as I'm trying to decide what to audition with Wink)

My booking in is tomorrow and I'm really nervous. I'm five minutes away from the closest hospital (Wrexham Maelor), but I've heard bad things... then again, my mum gave birth at Wrexham three times, and she says compared to where she had me (Walsall Manor) Wrexham was great... but I've heard great things about Bangor hospital, but it's over an hour away Sad and I'd really like the baby to be born in Wales, plus I've heard the Countess of Chester isn't great at all.

My worry is that I'm fairly chilled out about most things, and I have a high pain threshold, but when the going gets tough I just need a bit of support and encouragement, and apparently the midwives at Wrexham are unsympathetic, focused on getting you in and out as quick as possible and see you as patient number #14235 rather than a person with thoughts and feelings and something the size of a pumpkin coming out of your foof, and don't get me wrong I'm a relaxed kind of girl, but I don't think it's unfair to assume that at my age (at any age really), most girls would need a little bit of encouragement and moral support.

I'll have OH and potentially my mum there but she's two hours drive away on a good day, and OH has a tendency to get a little panicky, so I won't get much support from there at first. There's just loads of things I'm worried about; scare stories on the internet from about 10 different people saying they went in there saying they were in labour, the midwife got shirty with them and told them not to be so silly, left them on their own for hours and then turned up and were surprised but not sympathetic to find that they were already 7 or 8 cm dilated...

Sorry for the long post, just need to vent/get advice Sad anyone else got a similar issue re: where to have the baby?

ThePFJ · 30/09/2013 16:59

moomin When it comes to picking the right place to give birth, it is super important to me...The difference in care can be devastating - and you want to be treated well when you are fragile and have your legs akimbo..... Have a look at each maternity unit's website. Do they have a video tour online? Are they making the complaints procedure really easy to find or hard to find?? Try and find info from women how have used them recently. 1 hour away may seem a lot - but if its amazing it could be worth it. Let's face it, you probably won't go into labour and have baby drop out of you within an hour. ASK your MW when you see her which is the best centre. Hopefully she will give you good solid info. You should be offered a tour of any birthing unit you are interested in... so why not take advantage of that??

Take your time about choosing.. you don't have to be 100% certain now.
And good luck for your auditions. Personally I think bump on stage would be the most awesome sight. Imagine a child star so young he or she is still in the womb?? Grin

ThePFJ · 30/09/2013 17:07

P.S. The hospital you get your dating scans etc at doesn't have to be your final choice for the birth. You have months to make up your mind Smile

AliOh · 30/09/2013 17:09

Wow very helpful info ThePFJ

moomin just remember people are more likely to vent about bad experiences than good ones. It probably feels like a lot of people are complaining about that particular hospital bits it's likely to be a small percentage. By the way I'm so watching little shop of horrid tonight you've put it in my head now!

Welcome to any new Maybies that I've missed :)

AliOh · 30/09/2013 17:10

Shop of horrors*

moominleigh94 · 30/09/2013 17:20

Haha it's great isn't it AliOh?

Thanks ThePFJ. I think I'm going to request tours; the Betsi Cadwalader health trust website is awful, there's a little description of the midwife-led home-from-home units (there's one half an hour from home home, which would make it easier for my mum to be there, but it's ages from the nearest actual hospital, and I live an hour and a half away from it now otherwise it'd be fine). And that's it really Sad

If Wrexham seems nice, I'll go for Wrexham as it's easier and has family links - I'm just worried that although the ward may seem nice, the midwives I get on the actual day might be like the ones described in the reviews Sad

Isean · 30/09/2013 17:22

Hi everyone!

I also had an appointment with the midwife today, it was my second one so not sure if that one was considered the "booking in" one. Anyway, at the first one (8 weeks) she gave me maternity notes, leaflets, a big book called Ready Steady Baby and asked me some questions. She then asked me to go through the pages of maternity notes she had marked and complete them (partner/next of kin details, health questions for me, health and family history for me and my DP, etc) and to make notes of any questions for my next visit.
So today's appointment (10 weeks) she went through all the questions I answered, asked how I was keeping, struggled to take blood and managed eventually, checked my urine sample and told me I had ketones in my urine. She said I am using up my own fat reserves for energy as I am not getting enough calories into my system, or keeping them down. She is concerned I have hyperemesis and talked to me about things I could try to help with sickness and foods to try in the hope of that improving. If the sickness or struggling to eat continues they will have to refer me to the hospital Hmm
A little bit disappointed as I thought I was doing ok as I usually manage to keep some things down each day. Also feeling guilty Sad

The midwife also referred me for the dating scan, so hopefully that won't take long to come!

I only have the option of one hospital, comes with living in the north of Scotland!
