Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Becca that's good that you'll be getting support post birth. It can be a difficult transition to make at times so it's good to know it's there.

Flu jabs - last time round, 2 years ago, I was just sent a letter telling me the date and time. They ran a Sat surgery for it and brought the whole team in to get most people sorted in one day. It was v efficient. I am hoping for something similar this time but if I don't hear anything in the next few weeks, I'll contact them.

I've forgotten the name of our outed midwife (sorry on my phone) but I'm glad you've come clean. It's an amazing job - if the odd one of us has a rant, please don't take it personally. Like every profession, there can be the odd 'bad' one but we know that the vast majority do an amazing job and are worked off their feet!

Prambo · 28/09/2013 13:10

Today a colleague told me her daughter (who is new to the school) asked her, 'Who is the one that is really skinny but also pregnant and it just doesn't work?'

Oh, Coolhand, I found myself ho-ho-hoing at this! Grin

Madwife, you naughty secret-keeper! of course we won't harass you for midwifery crap! (Do I have to wear those support socks giving birf? How do I stop a shit coming out? Will I get to watch Corrie in a MLU?)

Moosey, I loved them there mugs but I balked at £40. That's seven quid per mug. Which is, frankly, wrong.

Prambo · 28/09/2013 13:39

Oooh, Becca, I love a happy ending. You've worked hard, no? Counselling is so bloody tough and I salute you. Great news about it being extended. I love security blankets Smile

Midwives rock. 'Nuff said.

HotCrossPun · 28/09/2013 13:46

Those of you who are unmarried, who's second name are you giving the baby?

I know it makes sense for the baby to take DP's surname, as one day we will be married and that will be my surname too.

But the feminist in me is resisting against it Grin

NoMaybeAboutIt · 28/09/2013 13:54

Hot I know a few people that have gone down the double barrelled route?

Becca you've done so amazingly well [thanks

PramAndLeekPie it's eastenders all the way Wink

karamcleod · 28/09/2013 13:58

My dog hates me since I've been pregnant, it's breaking my heart :(

NoMaybeAboutIt · 28/09/2013 14:00

Really Kara? How so? Mines gone the opposite way. He even escorts me to the toilet and waits outside the door Hmm

karamcleod · 28/09/2013 14:14

He was my baby before, slept in bed with me, had cuddles all the time, followed me everywhere just generally spoilt a pooch but he's just so distant and grumpy with me. He's snapped at me a few times as well :( I thought I was maybe his age (18 months, leaving puppyhood) but he's fine with everyone else! OH seems to thinks he can sense I'm pregnant and he's not happy about it. I actually can't stop getting upset by this!

liberuna · 28/09/2013 14:38

hot to satisfy the feminist in me. Im keeping my name. Kiddies get OH surname. . Not double barrelling because tge combo is naaasty.

Teddybear4 · 28/09/2013 14:39

Trying to catch up after a very busy week. DS has been having (big) issues at school (he's in Y1), I've been ill (cold and now chest infection) and just dealing with the usual work/mum/life stuff. I still feel rotten and was sick this morning (first time this pg) and am back in bed feeling guilty about DH having both the children again. I've been ill (and very stressed) for 10 days or so now and I'm worried about the effect on the baby. I've still not felt it move (18 weeks today) which is very different to my last two.

Sorry, it's a bit all about me. Hope everyone else is doing ok with their growing bumps and any inconvenient trials and tribulations.

MummyPig24 · 28/09/2013 15:03

Teddy I'm sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. [Sad].

kara hopefully doggy will get used to the changes going on and be your friend again soon.

Prambo · 28/09/2013 15:05

Oh, Teddy, all that shit sounds bloody awful. Can any mumsnetters help you with the issues your son is having at school? Please don't feel guilty about your DH having to step up; he promised to look after you in his vows, no? I'm 18 wks today and have felt no movement whatsoever. Your baby is fine. Please stay rational; it is the stress on top of the stress which is giving you dark thoughts. Huge hugs, love Thanks

I want to thank Andie, Edamame, Maybe, Stephie & Lumpy for their help and comfort over on facebook regarding my mum's problems. I feel massively fortunate to know you ladies (and others on here). Sorry this is a bit saccharine but I'm bowled over by you, truly. Thanks once again Thanks

JK10 · 28/09/2013 15:05

teddy what's happened with D'S at sch? Hope u feel better soon

hot my kids have DP's surname, most of the time it's okay but does occasionally have really annoying moments, like when my kids receive a parcel in the post that I have missed and need to collect. I show my i.d and proof of address but not allowed to collect as I have a different surname, even though I can prove I live and im their mum but they won't allow me to take it! Bit frustrating!!

Congrats to all those who have overcome such tough times.

Prambo · 28/09/2013 15:10

JK, I miss you on here. How's things with you?

OwlinaTree · 28/09/2013 15:11

Wah, have been asleep since 10am and only just woken up!! What a waste of a day but i'm guessing i needed it!

Dreamed i had the baby in the back of the car. scary. Shock

Sorry your little one is having some problems in school teddy. Assuming you are in England it's a big change from EYFS. I hope it gets sorted out soon. Resting sounds like the best thing you can do today if you have been feeling stressed and poorly. You are growing a person, you need to take it easy and you and dh are a team, he won't mind looking after the children on his own i'm sure.

Sorry about your dog kara. I know nothing about dogs i'm afraid, so no advice!

SoSurprised · 28/09/2013 15:20

Hello fellow Martians,
I woke up today feeling like there were gas bubbles going up and down in my lower stomach. It went on for a good 10 min. Was it the baby? I have been trying to get it to it again by tapping on my stomach a few times but it won't do it again. :(
Any first timers feeling movements already? And how often do they happen?

karamcleod · 28/09/2013 15:32

Feeling so pathetic today, everything is making me cry! And this pain won't fuck off. I've had a bath, hot water bottle, paracetemol and I really don't know what to do now :(

Teddybear4 · 28/09/2013 15:44

Thanks for the sympathy all. The DS thing is very long winded - in short, he's very gifted but his behaviour is below standard and he's teamed up with a boy of equivalent behaviour standards in his class. I think he needs challenging more, they say they won't do that until his behaviour improves... Chicken and egg anyone? We're both in school to meet with them again this week but I just feel that I'm being looked upon as a bad parent for his behaviour (with total disregard for any of the positives he has). Thank goodness DD is less complex, for now. And number 3 is a good idea because????!!!

The thing with the movement is that I look huge. I can't understand how I can be huge and not feel what is making me that way - irrational, I know!

DH is being great - he's taken the kids to tennis and even looks to have thought about dinner for the first time in forever as stuff is defrosting in the kitchen. I suspect I'll get the grumpy tired routine later though...

SoSurprised - that sounds like it to me!

Edamame · 28/09/2013 15:45

Hottie, same situation here re surnames: I really want to have the same surname as my child; for some bizarre reason, DP believes it is traditional for the child to have the father's surname if born to unmarried parents Hmm; neither of us want to double-barrel; we don't want to make up a new one; I would change my name if we married one day.
But it's currently unresolved.

JK10 · 28/09/2013 16:16

Hey pram all good here thanks, just been so busy and im finding the only time to catch up on here is when I get to bed usually about midnight, then I manage 3 pages and end up falling asleep!! But I'm still here every night doing my best to keep up with u all! Anyway, this is the first weekend without so much on so have managed to catch up! Yay! Gutted I'm probably gonna miss the meet up, would of been lovely to of seen u all but I just think babysitter situation means its gonna have to be a no, if it changed I'll let u know. However anyone interested in a London meet up, who isn't on fb then let me know. Congrats on moving in date! How good does it feel when everything comes together!

so they are all so different, I felt a movement last Sunday but nothing since am 17weeks and my 5th so thought I may be feeling more by now but it will happen within the next few weeks, and will get more and more regular until u have a random foot sticking out of your ribs!! Or u feel ut having hicups! You'll feel it again, and early on it can feel like bubbles,

kara have no advice for u regarding dogs but is it worth a google/dog specialist if it's really hurting u?

teddy sorry to here about ds at sch fingers crossed u get some better news next week. My ds is dyslexic and it causes me probs at home with homework and sch! Sch gives him no additional support as he is not severe enough therefore he is always struggling and at the bottom of the class which is really frustrating esp as he is so clever in so many ways but can't get his work onto paper an struggles with organisation etc. Just a little extra help would go such a long way for all if us!

Jolleigh · 28/09/2013 16:26

So, baby show done. Only a short list of purchases...

4 bottles of alcohol free red wine

'Fill n squeeze' baby food pouch set for purees when Alien is a bit older.

Cot bed to be delivered in December.

Wallet lighter. Job done Grin

LyraSilvertongue · 28/09/2013 16:28

On the name thing, when I had DSs, we gave them XP's surname and because I wanted to have the same name as my children, I changed mine by deed poll. I'd (foolishly) thought we'd get married one day anyway.

This baby will get DP's very difficult surname. I can't give him/her mine because it's XP's surname, and DP would not be happy for his child to have my ex's surname.

I don't like double-barrelling. The only people I know who've done that are quite chavvy.

JK10 · 28/09/2013 16:30

pram meant to add sorry to hear about your mum, I know u said no sympathy but it's so hard to see a loved one struggle. Totally non related but my nan who I was so close to had a horrific stroke last year, long story short couldn't speak, paralysed, couldn't eat. Went to see her every other day but was so heartbreaking Sad. Really hope u find a remedy to help her.

JK10 · 28/09/2013 16:33

joll how was the baby show, was it mega busy? Any freebies?

Prambo · 28/09/2013 16:33

Sorry to sound unsympathetic, Kara, but how about relying on friends to make you feel good rather than a dog? Get rid of the fucker and get a tortoise. Huge emotional intelligence Grin

Teddy, I wish I could advise you. What a catch-22 at school! Is your son's behaviour quite bad, then? Is it worse than at home? Is he statemented as gifted with behavioural problems? The facebookers amongst us are already arranging a London meet-up, which might cheer you up Smile Are you on fb Teddy? if so, you will have seen the latest photo of my bump which is huge and sticky-outy. Still no movement here..
