Where's Frankel? Hope you're okay, love. Is hubby home? Smile

Coolhand · 27/09/2013 23:35

After reading this thread, I am now starving but I'm in bed so will just have to remain hungry.

Can't remember who was asking but I prefer Conor.

Absolutely love the mugs Grey/maternalflame - I teach in an English dept so will definitely have to get some.

Today a colleague told me her daughter (who is new to the school) asked her, 'Who is the one that is really skinny but also pregnant and it just doesn't work?' Thanks for that vote of confidence - was already feeling just wonderful about my body image. Hmm

My belly dancing DVD arrived - it is more or less pregnancy yoga by a different name. It is also far too slow moving - 45 mins for a warm up...lost my patience in the end.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

CalltheMadwife · 27/09/2013 23:37

hey all, has just taken me 2 evenings to catch up! this is what happens when I go to work for 12 hours! Love reading it all though! It does mean I end if staying up way too late when should already be asleep before an early start tomorrow!

I'm trialling a new nickname, formerly Becface as there's already a Becca on here and I always get confused! Also there's something I wanted to get off my chest,
here goes....I'm a midwife and I have kept quiet till now as I didn't want to be seen as the enemy or even an alternative to nhs direct, sorry if this sounds silly, as it is only my job not who I am but mw's do get a lot of bashing on mumsnet and was scared to say anything, but I know from reading this thread from the beginning that the regular posters on here are an amazing bunch of women and I look forward to meeting some/all of you at some point. I don't know if I've articulated myself very well here, I hope I have Confused

Anyway enough of that, I love my job but it is not all that I am, I'm still pregnant for the first time and am pleased to say my sickness is definitely on the way out, thank you cyclizine! only been sick twice in the last two weeks (17 weeks and 5 days today) and in other news managed to buy a dress for a wedding next week that doesn't make me look huge and some stuff from the charity shops for when I am huge.

Congrats to those who have had their scans and found houses! and hi to any new people who have joined Smile

OwlinaTree · 27/09/2013 23:53

grey thanks I've book marked that, my DH would love those for Xmas!

OwlinaTree · 28/09/2013 00:02

pram a good reason to use the hairdresser and a good reason to be cheerful, you must have realised how far you had come today, well done!

LyraSilvertongue · 28/09/2013 01:05

There's now a June antenatal club. We're now old hands at this. Doesn't seem too long ago that we were discussing bfps and when to go to the doc for confirmation.

Cassiopeia01 · 28/09/2013 03:34

Madwife - thanks for outing yourself! I think your job is just amazing. One of my step daughters wants to be a midwife and we are really encouraging her to go for it. But I completely get why you don't want everyone asking you questions! I guess it's as new for you going through it for the first time as the rest of us newbies. And knowing as much as you do probably makes things harder! Well done on getting the dress too Grin.

MummyPig24 · 28/09/2013 06:16

Madwife that's so cool that you are a midwife!

The kids have woken up really early but have been sent back to bed until a reasonable time, but now I'm wide awake. I have my flu jab in 2 1/2 hours!

CalltheMadwife · 28/09/2013 06:46

Thanks mummy and cassio I feel much better coming out of the midwifery closet! I've just got up myself after only 4 and a half hours sleep ready for another 12 hour shift, can't seem to get to sleep recently even though I'm knackered in the evening, had really bad heartburn last night took lots of milk and a few swigs of gaviscon before it went away, I'm gonna be shattered later! oh well!

OwlinaTree · 28/09/2013 07:14

madwife 12 hour shift! Crickey, thought they worked me hard!

Imeg · 28/09/2013 07:57

I think it's completely different when something you deal with professionally happens to you. I work with animals but dealing with my own pets is completely different - I'm hopeless, can't even clip my own cat's claws at home and have to get someone else to do it...

BNmum · 28/09/2013 08:03

Hi ladies, thought I'd check in and say I haven't forgot all of you. I about a thread behind and trying to catch up but finding its an impossible task.

Congrats on the house pram and what a huge step to visit your old rehab, well done.

Congrats on all the gender reveals. I'm loving all the name talk, I'm abit superstitious so refuse to really talk names with DH until my 20week scan but I did love your list mummy. We still haven't decided if we're going to find out the sex yet, I think we'll probably cave but not until after 20weeks.

madwife I really admire your stamina I would be asleep on my feet.

liberuna · 28/09/2013 08:06

madwife
A jobs a job. I hate people who's first question is 'what do you do?" Then you get that judging look. Urgh.
I'm not necessarily what I do and if it is, so what? Understandably yours is a little more pertinent to the subject matter at hand Grin In the same vein I hope you'll understand if we have a rant every now and then? It's not personal .

RaspberrysAndIcecream · 28/09/2013 08:19

madwife I'm a maternity nanny & also do work as a sleep consultant but that's my job - I've never had my own baby before and that's the same for u. Good luck with ur 12hr shift. I can only just do a 10hr day - u have my full respect!!!

Badly I've cut back a lot - using click and collect for shopping or home delivery. And no hoovering, DH does that. I guess because we've always split the housework 50/50 I just feel like I'm not doing my bit - but I'm growing a baby and that's bloody tiring!!! pram the house is dusty - my mum has offered to do it. I can't leave it tho, I'm asthmatic and dust can set it off. DH's mother is the most unhouseproud person I've ever met - her house is just revolting (not just dust, but actual dirt and animal shit ) dh grew up like that and he hated it, never had friends round to play as he was to embarrassed by the state of the house. It's made him very house proud - I think he's more 1950s than me sometimes!!

On the very plus side the chimney sweep has managed to book us in, in much shorter time space than expected. So in 3 weeks time we can use the open fire in our lounge. It's my favourite feature of our house and I love it!! Can't wait Grin

We might be seeing DH's dad this afternoon, so we can finally tell him.

Have a good weekend everyone.

karamcleod · 28/09/2013 09:49

I've had a stabbing pain in my stomach since last night, OH says will just be the babies foot and I am worrying over nothing, surely baby is far too small and supple to be causing this amount of pain?

HotCrossPun · 28/09/2013 09:58

kara Where is the pain? A lot of us have been getting round ligament pain, could it be that?

karamcleod · 28/09/2013 10:43

No I've had ligament pain this is different, it's in the left side of my bump :(

lumpylumps · 28/09/2013 10:47

Morning all. I also struggle on a Friday. Well, most days really!! I find it hard to sit down and rest because there's so much to do and because I'm still only 17 weeks feel like a bit of a fraud! My pelvis has really started hurting this week tho so I think I really need to be more careful. I'm going to call the physio on Monday.

Works really awful at the minute, there are 4 of us pregnant, 2 are 30 weeks, then me and one at just 5 weeks and she miscarried at 14 weeks earlier in the year so really needs to be careful. There are people off sick and 4 vacancies so we're running on empty. My manager still hasn't done my risk assessment, she comes into the office and ends up crying most days because she's so stressed and we're just so overloaded with work that I just daren't say anything but I'm really starting to struggle!! I'm a community nurse so it's a very physical job and I'm on my own most of the time out on visits.

madwife are you ward based?? Do you mind if we do ask you questions???

x0gawjus0x · 28/09/2013 10:52

Anyone like the silvercross prams? Ive been looking at the wayfarer its really nice im torn between it and the bugaboo bee

NoMaybeAboutIt · 28/09/2013 10:58

I had the same think and was told it was stretching Kara. I always found a bath helped.

Prambo I am so chuffed for you. You have come so bloody far. You must feel proud. And if you don't, I'm going to feel proud for you x

Mad I think it's brilliant. My friends a mw and I love her Wink

How you doing today Apprentice?

MummyPig24 · 28/09/2013 11:17

The flu jab has been had. They don't even offer you a chair, just in, stabbed and out again! My arm is a little sore now but probably because i managed to bang the injection site on the car door about an hour after having it.

I think we might treat ourselves to a lunch out, we never go out anymore so it will be nice. The other day ds said "I wish we could go to a pub" lol!

rescoonetwothree · 28/09/2013 11:18

glad you all like the mugs haha - i couldn't handle the new name so I'm back to old trusty!

kara I've had that it's just stretching probably so don't worry!

karamcleod · 28/09/2013 11:22

gaw I liked the 3D but someone on here told me it was shite, but I've already got my wee bean a bonnie pram.

Beccadugs · 28/09/2013 12:15

We've got our new car! Very odd driving a manual, and it's not nearly as nice a spec as the old one was... I am sure I will get used to it though.

Is it wrong to feel overly emotional over a car?

Beccadugs · 28/09/2013 12:21

pram it was really hard, but with some fantastic therapists and a lot of hard work I beat the PTSD. I still get what I call the "big sads" and am on sertraline (I came off for most of first trimester due to heart defect concerns, but it was he'll and I am a better version of me with them). I found out this week that my 12 sessions of GP funded therapy has been extended to three months after the birth. Apparently this is to prevent ante or post natal depression, as I am a nut case as I obviously have some risk factors!
