Hello ladies.. the previous thread is almost full so I thought it's time to move on to a new one to mark the start of trimester 2. Here's to fewer bouts of sickness and more "glowing" all around!

Thanks guys, it seems like a girl season :-). All the best for rest you waiting for the scan ....

Hello Dutchy! Poor you, that sounds vile :-(

I have been suffering (I think a lot, but less than you - I am a wuss!). Better than I was, but seem to have hit a plateau where I'm still feeling sick every evening (and some afternoons) and still throwing up a few times a week, which i really thought would be over by now. So anyway, given the amount I have been moaning I think you are definitely entitled to feel a bit sorry for yourself! Glad you have found some drugs that take the edge off at least.

I am planning to go to hospital too (well, a midwife led unit, but it's in a hospital so can transfer if I decide I need DRUGS!)

Haven't bought anything yet, but haven't been near any shops so has been easy to be good! I think we might try to start getting stuff in January (assuming the baby shops do January sales too?) but I guess that means we should do a research trip before Christmas so that we have some clue what we want. Hmm have to say it all feels a bit like work at the moment!

Thanks for your replies.

I'm really unsure what to do. On one hand I'd like to stay at home and have the baby, but on the other I'm worried something could go wrong and I've made a decision that could harm the baby.

I was all set on a home birth then made the mistake of googling it lol think dh would prefer me to go to hospital too

I get scared when we think how much we've still got to buy, including pushchair. So you need lots of baby grows and vests? You wouldn't believe is already had two lol

bundaberg · 12/11/2013 14:15

how far are you from the hospital?

here they alert the ambulance station if they're called out to a homebirth, so that they're aware they may be needed.

you get 2 midwives with you, constantly. which is better care than I received in hospital with my first.

they will not hesitate to advise you to transfer if they think anything is going wrong or you aren't progressing etc... it's highly unlikely that something would happen that would occur so quickly you couldn't get to hospital or that the midwives couldn't deal with at home/on the way.

catameringue · 12/11/2013 16:30

My midwife hasn't asked me at all about my plans! My local hospital is rated poorly overall and by service users. I guess I will await the results of my specialist scan as if there are heart problems I may end up at a hospital out of area anyway.

BeansAndCheese · 12/11/2013 17:24

purple, go on www.homebirth.org.uk there is so much information and it explains the stats and risks. maybe a tad biased, but there are lots of personal stories, most of which are positive even if they end in a transfer.

Scan today, everything healthy and well and...its a boy! one of each! Trouble is now dh thinks we need 3 so it doesn't end in a draw Hmm

hope everyone elses scan go well

just wondering who has is on consultant care what is actually different apart from more appointments tryed asking midwife she sed i can ask consultant this question Shock but to impatient so will ask u x

patsy375 · 12/11/2013 21:15

Pleased to hear scans went well chaffinch and beans
2 boys to even out our numbers!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 12/11/2013 21:22

consultant led care for anything out of the ordinary, any kind of medical condition, c section, etc.,
it means extra appointments, yep, and someone overseeing the MW who also looks after you. Ive actually met my consultant this time; the last pg in Manchester I never got to lay eyes on the great lady, she advised form a hidden office, like the wizard of oz or something

patsy375 · 12/11/2013 21:28

blooming Consultant care usually means more antenatal appointments as they want to keep a closer eye on you and baby for some reason.

Some appts will be at hospital some with community midwife.
The main thing it affects is your place of birth.
Consultant booked women tend to deliver on a consultant run labour ward where they have fetal monitoring machines, epidurals available if you want one, theatre if needed and regular input from doctors.
I had all 3 of mine on a cons unit but still had relatively straight forward vaginal deliveries.
Hope this helps

bLooming2 · 12/11/2013 21:51

thank you I keep reading things on Internet aand am worrying myself but hopefully consultant will help wiyh all that I had very easy labour last time and was monitored all the way threw hope all the same this tym x

ChaffinchOfDoom · 14/11/2013 09:33

yes, thankyou scan went OK...after my imagination went crazy as scanner was so preoccupied...then I realised it was actually her job to be quiet and concentrate!

she sent me out for a wee as my bladder was so full it was in the way. he was lying with his calves tucked under his thighs, and leaning backwards..kneeling up in the womb and leaning back like he was limbo-ing or something. DH and I had very tempestuous convo last night re names..he loves one I HATE.

purplesonnet · 14/11/2013 10:35

Thanks BeansAndCheese

I had a look on the site, and got dh to look too, and found it really useful. I think it may be hospital though. Dh says he's support me whatever I decided but I know he'd prefer me to go to hospital. Just got to get over my phobia of hospitals now lol, makes me feel sick going there just for scans.

Though talking of scans I'm getting jealous of everyone finding out the sex! My 20 week scan isn't until the 26th, I'm not a patient person lol. I think it's a boy, have done ever since I found out I was pregnant, but on the 26th I'll probably be proven wrong lol

badfurday · 14/11/2013 12:44

Just had my 20 week scan, was gutted as I need to be rescanned. Baby is lying face down so couldn't really see much :-( Measurements she could get seem perfect though.
Im just reading on the internet that face down baby could be a sign of Downs Syndrome?!

nevergoogle · 14/11/2013 13:08

did they say that badfurday? or are you googling where you shouldn't and worrying yourself?

BunnyBump1 · 14/11/2013 13:35

All the best Cannot and congrats chaffinch Smile
