Hello ladies.. the previous thread is almost full so I thought it's time to move on to a new one to mark the start of trimester 2. Here's to fewer bouts of sickness and more "glowing" all around!

My scan went great, we have a happy healthy baby who wriggled so much the sonographer couldn't get proper measurements at first. They have brought my dates forward by two days which means I'm 12+3 and due on the 18th April Smile

Nessalina · 07/10/2013 17:22

Hello ladies, hope you're all well Smile Good news on the wriggly scan Pink! My breasts are driving me mental today even with new resized bras - is anyone else finding that their nipples itch like hell?!

spicynaknik · 07/10/2013 17:41

LightTripper my original understanding was that the lab definitely can provide gender info from the genetic material extracted but for ethical reasons they don't disclose this info, to prevent people potentially having terminations on the basis of gender. However, it seems that this is changing.

wendle70 · 07/10/2013 17:49

Hello ladies

Great news on scan pretty in pink! Hope all of those others who are waiting for scans and results are holding in there.

Re gender question.. yes was fmc (Dr Barbara) and they just asked did we want to know and it would cost £10 extra! We were like YES PLEASE! Weird if they don't always offer this - it was only a week ago...

Oh I am so excited by the post that said symptoms can actually stop on 12th week.. googling told me it might be more like 16 weeks and the thought of feeling this sick for a further month...although I puked a bit less this weekend which was a small step for mankind.

and re over analysing and over googling everything now..errr totally! I am now starting to worry about exposure to electrons/wireless thingies as so surgically attached to iphone.

Bump definitely prominent now although other half said it looks like a chardonnay belly! I am telling friends (and told my family) apart from work mates. Going to wait until after scan on 18th before cat is out of bag with everyone else.

mamapants · 07/10/2013 18:57

I don't know anyone in real life who hasn't had an epidural when they wanted one. They were actually urging me to have one. I'm sure it does happen but I wouldn't start worrying about it now.

I still haven't had appt for scan. I don't want to be a pain but think I'm going to have to phone my midwife to chase this up. She was meant to chase it up last week after my booking in appt but its getting ridiculous now.

LeeHandy · 07/10/2013 20:23

Misty I never thought that the baby may not like being carried around, but of course, you are absolutely right. Sometimes I wonder how I can be so ignorant and still qualify to have one. Smile I suppose we shouldn't eliminate the idea of a push-chair though my baby may decide to be contrary and refuse to lie in the 800 pound bugaboo. Grin
I'm glad your scans and tests went well Pink and Light!!
Welcome Spicy and congratulations!
Mama and Bunda you're right, there's no point in thinking about epidurals now. But I suppose that's just one of the things that I can think about that I can actually control as opposed to the rest of the process.
You're also absolutely right, Bunda, the chameleon does go up to 17kg. I don't know where I got the 10kg number from? Possibly from the weight of the chameleon itself rather than its capacity.

going into my birth in my plan I had been quite definite that I did NOT want an epidural...
then in labour I decided I did.. but the MW ''persuaded'' me I really didn't as I had declared in my pre-birth ignorance,
as it turned out it was probably better I hadn't even though I needed a spinal for the further surgery after delivery
if Id had epidural Im sure it would've been a forceps/ ventouse and I'd have been even more damaged
moral - don't declare you DON't want birth pain options in your birth plan , be as openminded as possible Wink

ChocChaffinch · 07/10/2013 20:26

we're having mothercare's own pushchair/carseat/carrycot set, my sister had one and it is fab. Easy to use, tall adjustable handle, as I am tall, range of colours, probably going to have the apple green or the bright red.. it's all in for £250

bundaberg · 07/10/2013 21:27

i'm going to get a baby jogger city versa GT I think. maybe. unless I change my mind again lol

i do have a proper big pram which I got for DS1, so will prob use that to start with

and one of my many slings. I will have to go out a LOT with this baby so I can use all of its modes of transport Blush

Definitelysometime · 07/10/2013 21:47

Wow, haven't been on for ages so trying to quickly catch up on all your news. I'm 15 wks today and feeling like a new woman! Those still feeling rough, hang on in there. Weeks 10-12 were actually my worst. But you know what they say, it's always darkest before the dawn. About 13 weeks and ping! No sickness and shiny shiny hair. Hurrah. Wish that meant I was exercising and eating like a yoga bunny but alas the cravings for nandos and egg fried rice remain. Along with wind and udders-for-breasts. So not exactly sweetness and light. Anyway light, any gender news for us?!

LightTripper · 08/10/2013 07:56

Aw, definitelymaybe have a massive thank you hug for putting light at the end of the vom tunnel!

Last night not so great, got some sad family news so didn't feel it was the right time to share mine in the end, and then felt sick all evening, even food didn't help. Anyway, went to bed at 9 so didn't have a chance to post...

But actually before I went to bed OH and I thought we needed cheering up so he looked at our results and .... We are having a girl!! I joked to him we would have to stock up on pink paint Grin. It's funny, I felt like it was a girl, but suspect that's just because I have a younger sister, so my brain was taught early that babies are girls Smile

Anyway, it was a nice way to end the day! Yesterday was just so weird. It feels like everything in the world happened yesterday, good and bad. I still can't get my head around it. I'm hoping for a calmer day today!

LT 11+6 (so last day of sickness, right? Right?)

LightTripper · 08/10/2013 07:57

Sorry, definitelysometime!!

Definitelysometime · 08/10/2013 08:15

Oh I'm so sorry you had sad news yesterday. Do hope you're ok.

What exciting news about your pink little bundle! Once you're out of said vom tunnel you can get out there and start browsing super cute tiny little girl things!

I'm team yellow, but right now 25 more weeks seems like forevvvveerrr!

BeansAndCheese · 08/10/2013 16:00

I am jealous you know the sex so early. I couldn't find out at all last time. I really hope I get told winky/no winky at 20wk scan. Dh is too tight to pay for an extra scan!Grin

wendle70 · 08/10/2013 20:47

Lighttripper you are a few days ahead of me. Am on tenterhooks hoping that you will confirm in just a few days you are feeling wonderful.

The vom tunnel is also getting to me. It just sucks the joy out of everything..even OH said tonight it's hard to feel mega positive..cant cook or eat a nice meal, dread travelling anywhere, cant really make conversation as feeling so sick, cant cuddle at night, cant sleep through..I cant tell you how bad the air freshener in the loo at work makes me feel it brings on dry heave every time i go in there. I just feel like I am counting down the days. But if i feel better at 13 weeks latest that's only 1 week plus 4 left to go...

LightTripper · 08/10/2013 22:17

Well today was better than yesterday. Still felt sick all the time, but managed to work until 8 and stay up till now with no vom, whereas last couple of weeks have been horizontal by 5 and in bed by 9.30, so fingers crossed its downhill from here! Think I can work from home tomorrow, so hoping that will help (plus obviously 12+0 is the magic number, so will be fully cured in the morning anyway!)

LeeHandy · 08/10/2013 22:28

light great news that you are having a girl! I badly want a baby girl as well but am probably having a boy.
choc is this the mothercare one you meant? www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Xpedior-Pram-Pushchair-Travel-System/psX5077,default,pd.html
I am also on the lookout for a tall one and the uppababy vista goes up to 104 or 107 cm.
I haven't checked the baby jogger series out yet though. I think I will make a trip to the store to see what all of them look like first.

Well, wendle, I am sorry to report from the other side of the 12 week line that it is still nauseous (though no vomming in week 12 so far, yay!). However, the NHS emailed me this morning to tell me that my pregnancy sickness (am boycotting the term "morning sickness") should start to ease, so will be making a formal complaint at my booking in on Monday if it turns out not to be true Grin

I did find this quite interesting summary of lots of research on NVP (well, wha there is) and felt, (a) a bit unlucky, but also (b) a bit encouraged, as it looks like on average weeks 10-12 are the worst, so there really is some hope to hold out for...

www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/documents/NVP-lit-review.pdf

It is also quite nice just to see the unhappiness and loss of productivity caused taken a bit seriously somewhere, which seems to be quite rare.

CazInLondon · 09/10/2013 14:29

LeeHandy I have the Uppababy Cruz which is fantastic - you can happily drive it around the park but also take it on the bus with no issues, because the wheels are smaller than on the Vista. If it is confirmed that I have a healthy baby growing in my belly at tomorrow's scan, we'll need to start thinking about a double pram and I'll be very sorry to sell my urgent one which I love!

I'm about to take DS for his very first settling in session at nursery and starting to feel quite emotional, it's going to be so hard to hide it when I say goodbye but I'm gonna have to! One year maternity leave sounds like a really long time but it goes so so quickly. Sigh.

Xx

12+1

daftgeranium · 09/10/2013 19:10

hello again all. Afraid to say the tests today were pretty bad - high probabilities of DS plus physical defects at scan :( looks like little chance that baby will survive.

I'm signing off at this point - wanted to wish you all the best of luck with your pregnancies and babies xx

bundaberg · 09/10/2013 19:32

oh daft i;m so sorry to hear that :(

maybe start another thread if you feel up to it? because I know there are people on here who've been given similar prognoses and gone on to have their baby, and also those who have chosen to terminate the pregnancy.
it's an awful decision to have to make :(

Cannotbelieveit · 09/10/2013 20:20

So so sorry to hear that geranium xxx sending love xx

ChocChaffinch · 09/10/2013 21:33

sending love, geranium. Look after yourself X

ChocChaffinch · 09/10/2013 21:39

LeeHandy

yes it is the mothercare xpedior set, £250 is a good price for what you get, raincover & footmuff even are included.

This is my 3rd dc all being well, so I know what I want and need from a buggy.
With dd, our 1st one, we bought a three-wheeler mothercare thing, very heavy, very grey (dh colour choice) with inflatable tyre wheels. Fecking thing had about 83 punctures - from pavements / shopping centres as didn't take it anywhere off the beaten track. Then I bought a pushchair suitable from birth, mothercare again, about £80 at the time, worth its weight in gold and light as a feather to stick in the car boot

I m 5'9'' and the xpedior is plenty tall enough for me. It has a good size shopping basket too. When I have a buggy I can walk to the library as the books can be carried in the buggy net and not in a bag in my hand :-) I will also stroll up to supermarket for odd bits.
Travel systems mean at a push you can put carseat into the buggy base, useful if baby asleep and means you don't disturb

we didn't really use the carrycot much with dd, but will this time as have read around and better for baby to lie flat as much as poss.
