Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsHoratioNelson · 18/09/2013 06:22

Thanks Rox

And for the rest of you too.

DH was at some training day most of the day yesterday and again all day today, which he forgot about, so he came home late and in a flap about some work he had to do. He spent all of about 5 minutes with me yesterday evenin and then worked until about 3 am. I know that's crap for him, but it also meant that I didn't really sleep until then and he woke me up when he came to bed Sad

Added to which the hip pain that I though had disappeared last night is back, like I got last night's today as well.

So I am proper grumpy this morning Sad

MrsO27 · 18/09/2013 06:41

Morning all. Can I join the crap night's sleep club?
Getting a new carpet fitted today so must be too excited!!
mrsh Is the hip pain worse in the morning? have you tried sleeping with a pillow between your legs?

OrangeBlossom2 · 18/09/2013 06:52

sorry to hear that rox Thanks
your little boy sounds very thoughtful and sweet Clapham.
monkey i would ask your daughters teacher what they think would help. a thumb wrapped round is one of the"inefficient" grips, there are a couple that are ok. google tripod and quadripod grip. she might prefer the second. (two fingers on pencil, rest on fourth finger) if correct way feels odd for her. and maybe just focus on one letter at a time eg h so its an achievable target. but really not putting her off would matter more to me at home.

OrangeBlossom2 · 18/09/2013 06:57

link for monkey

JellyCurls · 18/09/2013 06:59

Rox so sorry to hear about the dog

SC at 38+2 got midwife this afternoon so going to try convince her to sweep me or even check out how I am doing. Going to turn on waterworks but not convinced I will be able to break her. Bump lower again today and feels like I got a bowling ball between my legs - lovely

2 sick DC's today so won't be around much but hope everyone well and I will let you know how mw goes

MrsHoratioNelson · 18/09/2013 07:14

MrsO yes, I have a dream genii pillow. But I find that if I'm not careful it gives me a dead leg because the circulation gets cut off. It's not helped by having to lie carefully to protect my ankle, which still has a swollen egg on it from where I fell.

Stupid pillow is annoying me, actually, the bump support one side makes me really uncomfortable and the other side doesn't give enough support.

OrangeBlossom2 · 18/09/2013 07:24

Mrs H I switched from dream genie to a ordinary pillow between my legs and nothing under my bump when my bump became big enough to rest on the bed as I don't like anything pressing it and the ordinary pillow is slightly thicker which feels better on my hips. I only liked the dream genie early on for the back support but my back isn't so bad anymore. Or more likely all the other pains took over! Hope your ankle improves soon. Are you getting it looked at again if it doesn't improve?

Putting off going to work as late as possible. Really losing motivation now. Wondering how many people today will say "not long now" or "how long have you got left?" Surely it must stop once everyone has said it. I am running out of feeble smiles to give.

Shirehobbit · 18/09/2013 07:28

Sad Roxvox sorry to hear about Poppy. Eighteen months after losing my greyhound, I still miss her terribly. Flowers

Funnily enough, I was awake most of the night - every pee stop was accompanied by brain overload, thinking about the inspection.
Might not be around much over the next ten days, but I hope to catch up in the evenings and might rely on you ladies to give me a sense of perspective/good laugh!

Hope everyone has a good day x

legallyblond · 18/09/2013 07:29

MrsHN - I had the dream genii pillow last preg and this time and have always used if the wrong way round, which seems much more supportive for me! In other words, the little support was used to slip under my bump, then the big long support supported the full length of my back (which is always what ached the most for me) and came up between my legs to sit between my knees... Makes sense if you try it!

The twins are actually sleeping pretty well. I am sure it won't last and is just because they think they should still be inside! They wake every three hours for a feed and settle back in their cot (after falling asleep on the boob) with half an hour. It's great. Like I said.... I expect from experience that it won't last! Buying some Harlan Coban thrillers on iBooks for my phone though.... Fell asleep last night with the little one in an awkward position on my boob and woke an hour later by DH with her face squashed right in.... Bit scary so I need to stay awake! I always feed in bed in the dark (for night/day differentiation!) so an iBook thriller seems the way to go....

Shirehobbit · 18/09/2013 07:30

Xpost Orange - tell me about it! I had taken to avoiding the staff room/eating a late lunch because of repetitions of the same conversation 100 times a day!
Least they'll all be talking about something else, now Grin

Soupqueen · 18/09/2013 07:57

rox, I am so sorry about Poppy. It was the right thing to do but that doesn't stop your heart breaking.

clapham, your son sounds like a lovely sweet boy, hope he is a bit happier today.

Re hair loss, my hairdresser said it looks alarming when it comes out but it's usually extra hair that you have in pregnancy so we shouldn't end up looking any different than we did pre pregnancy. flyer, do you think you'll manage to get your colour done every 4 weeks post baby? I get mine done every 6 weeks and it really is the one luxury that I'm desparate to keep in my life. I just hope finances and time allow for it!

I've got the first of my weekly monitoring sessions at the day assessment unit this morning - no idea really what it involves or how long it'll take. Antenatal class this afternoon if I'm not still in the hospital.

Good luck to all hoping to go into labour today.

cazboldy · 18/09/2013 07:59

ananikifo yes i have had 4 home births before. Smile

Hope things are better for you today pseudo

clapham oh your poor little man - thats heartbreaking stuff!

roxvox sorry about the dog xx

Jelly hope you get on Ok at the mw.

Legally - I have had that with my others, very scary! I got through so many books last time! about 3 a week! This time my new OU course starts 2 days before baby is due, so I'm sure I won't be stuck for reading material..... as to whether it will help me stay awake however.......

cazboldy · 18/09/2013 08:00

x posts soup - hope you get on Ok too x

Pinkforboys · 18/09/2013 08:08

Morning! Scan this morning- so I'm a little excited (and nervous). Hoping Madam has finally tucked her head down- it certainly feels like her feet are now kicking at my ribs.

Oh such sad news in the catch up this morning. Rox big hugs to you. Pets are such a big thing in our lives and losing them is terrible especially when you weren't expecting it. Definitely the right thing to do tho, you wouldn't have wanted to watch Poppy suffer x

clapham that's a hard conversation to have at any time and being pg is the worst! I had a similar convo with DS last year when I innocently bought the one Oliver Jeffers book DS didn't have- something about a heart in a bottle. Turns out it's about death and the same Qs arose which I wasn't prepared for. Maybe you shd skim read tonight's story before you read it to DS! (DS recommends Beauty and the Beast- he's in love with Beauty...)

untitled don't panic if the b pump doesn't work yet. One sight of your new bub and the milk will come tumbling down with no need of assistance Grin

falcon I was wondering same thing yesterday- playlists that is- not rear-entry DTD... DS was born to my iPod on shuffle and the selection was random (My Mum was terrified he'd be called Bruce or Prince...) The energising music was appreciated though...

Badger! What's your order? I'll be there about 9.30 if you want anything!!

pinkbuttons · 18/09/2013 08:16

Morning ladies,
Good Luck with yout scan this morning pink sending head down thoughts.

So sorry to hear about Poppy rox especially as it wasnt expected. Sending hugs your way xx

pseudo hope your feeling better this morning and Bp is behaving itself.

clapham reading about your DS asking that nearly made me cry bless him. Cant imagine what a mess Id be if DS asked that atm. glae he was able to ask you and be reassured though and thats one conversation you now wont have to have in post baby sleep deprived state.

Lovely to hear how well the twins are doing legally you have inspired me to download some books onto my tablet in preperation for babys arrival.

SendingBrew to all those that had bad nights.

After a day of pampering DH I was exhausted and slept through from 11 till 6 for the first time in months! So today would be quite a good day to have a baby considering am fully rested... pain has stopped though and now just getting irregular BH again so not hopeful. On with the housework, may even resort to scrubbing the floors.

Flyer747 · 18/09/2013 08:18

Soup I am determined to keep up my 4 weekly hair appointments, I'm light blonde and my natural hair colour is brown so if I don't get my roots/foils done my hair looks terrible. Dp and I did a spreadsheet of my outgoings and income and we factored in my hair as a monthly expense.

Clapham your little boy sounds really caring and sweet. Bless him.

I'm off to Mama Fit at 10am with some Nct ladies, it sounds boring to be honest but I'm trying to make an effort as the ladies from Nct are lovely and I guess it's important to have friendships with people who live close that have babies the same age...All my best friends live an hour away....and although dp's friends wives are lovely and we get on well it's not like having your own set of friends, that you've made seperate to your partner.

Flyer747 · 18/09/2013 08:25

Oh yes forgot to say Pseudo I hope you are better this morning, update us when you get chance.

Legally that's great news about the sleeping twins, they must look so cute sleeping together.

Falcon I hope after rear entrance dtd it has spurred things on.

Pink for boys that the scan goes well. Hunt badger down with the maccy d'as breakfast.

Soup your monitoring goes well.

MrsHoratioNelson · 18/09/2013 08:27

Thanks for all your pillow suggestions. It's the bit that's supposed to be the back support that is uncomfortable if its in front - you're supposed to be able to use it either way like legally described - I guess because it hasn't got squashed like the other side. I might try an ordinary pillow this evening.

I will get the ankle looked at again if no improvement or, more likely, a phone consult with my DSis or DBIL who are both physios. It's still very painful and I have been trying to rest it as much as possible, but I can't sit down all day!! I imagine its the extra give in the joints that is making recovery slower. Thanks again, pregnancy, you've been great Hmm

37+6 today and my bump has dropped I think. Baby still making its feelings known whenever I sit in the wrong position or rest my hands or arms on the bump while MNing but where else am I supposed to put them?! There's no room anywhere else...

PseudoBadger · 18/09/2013 08:36

Morning all. Survived the night! Had a bad headache at about 4am that's still niggling away, trace protein so I need to do another urine dip soon, last BP 140/81 so Labetelol is doing its thing. Relaxing on my bed streaming GBBO through my 3G connection so I'll pay for that at the next phone bill!! Carpal tunnel so bad I couldn't butter my toast :(

Hope your scan goes well pink, DP is bringing me food I think but thanks xx

Soupqueen · 18/09/2013 08:45

flyer, my hair would look dreadful too. I'm going very grey (have been since I was 19) and don't want to look like this child's grandmother! I need to figure out a way to keep my hair appointments!

Slippysnow · 18/09/2013 09:03

Ph hweew finally caught up.

rox sorry to hear about the dog, I'm doing my best to hang on to my dog as long as I can without him being in pain, pretty sure he is 14 now and breathes like darth vader.

legally you sound like your coping so well, very impressed.

kelly congratualtions on your little girl!

pseudo sorry to hear you are having troubles.

I had my first (and hopefully last) scare of the pregnancy my formerly active bump wasn't moving barely at all so we decided to go in to the day assesment unit. I had a brilliant midwife who didn't make me feel stupid, calmed me down and hooked me up to a trace, which revealed a happy healthy active baby (surprise surprise). I have really tried to stay calm throughout, but my mum had a still birth at full term and as I move closer to that stage I'm starting to be extra vigilant. - not that I would have any control myself.

Slippysnow · 18/09/2013 09:09

(Just read that back, sorry to put a downer on the thread. They are very very rare)

Sparkeleigh · 18/09/2013 09:15

Morning!

Sorry to hear you had to go into hospital and about your carpal tunnel pseudo, but glad your bp is coming down. I hope you escape asap! You just reminded me about GBBO, thank you!

Clapham that must have been very upsetting for you, but it's so much better that he talks to you about it - I remember a little girl in primary school bursting into tears in class and telling everyone her Dad had died because he wasn't there when she woke up - she thought bodies disappeared when you die and was inconsolable.

rox, I'm so sorry about Poppy Flowers

MrsH, I missed that you had a fall, ouch! Sad hope you're able to get something to help.

monkey I'm not a teacher but my bro is dyslexic and had terrible trouble with handwriting, so my mum got him the ergonomic grips to get his fingers used to how they should be sitting on the pencil. It did help him a bit and I used to pinch them because they were easier on your fingers so if your wee girl is having trouble because her hand is tired, it sounds like they might help.

I think all the crap in work has caught up with me, I feel so tired and woozy this morning. Working from home thankfully so I'm tempted to take a quick nap at lunch...

Smitten1981 · 18/09/2013 09:20

Rox Sorry about your dog. Poor thing, but it was the right thing to do to save them from living in discomfort. At least they had a happy life with people that cared for them well.

Slippy Glad all is ok.

I feel like a right whingebag this morning, but I'm actually really annoyed. It took me 6 changes of clothes to get ready this morning. I can't wear my summer dresses anymore because it's always raining, my tops don't cover the bottom of my bump and my skinny maternity jeans sit funny on my bump and the baby went mental when I put them on, so I take it he doesn't like them. I have no coat because my ones from last year don't fit and I don't want to buy anything because it's only going to last another few weeks.

I might have to just don a poncho and go into hiding.

Slippysnow · 18/09/2013 09:24

smitten I empathise with the coat situation! I just did the first couple of buttons up and let bump hang out and get wet and chilly, I suppose that's not very responsible but what does he care he's in a hot tub ;)
