No I'm not veggie orange although I actually prefer veggie options to meat options, dp's parents are veggies have been for about 20 years, and they always make lovely yummy veggie food.

That's exactly what it felt like for me orange when the baby turned and engaged, all pressure on my bladder so I think your baby is preparing itself Smile although I still have it's bum right up under my ribs which is really uncomfortable.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 14/09/2013 17:14

Ah i see! I couldn't work out how you could sort the pad/undies situation. That makes much more sense. Thanks :)

MotherOfNations · 14/09/2013 17:18

Heffa You'll have baby with you straight away and might need help to lift her from crib in the first few hours.
When you feel able to move ask them to remove the catheter. Don't wait for them to offer. I was always up and showered for evening visiting but you might not feel up to it. A midwife will give you a bed bath while still in the recovery room. You'll be in there for a couple of hours while they monitor your blood pressure and bleeding.
You'll be given a painkilling pessary before you leave theatre and some hospitals use a self administered morphine drip that you wear round your neck for the first 24 hours (you just press a button for a dose) I hate it though because morphine makes me itch so I ask fo co-codamol.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 14/09/2013 17:41

Thank you so much MoN! I'm trying to get myself mentally prepared for it all, but I just have no idea what to expect.

How did coped with not being able to eat or drink until after the op? I managed not to eat for my gtt, but i am really worried that with no water either I will feel really ill.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 14/09/2013 17:42

*did you cope

Pinkforboys · 14/09/2013 17:50

3 or was it 5? pieces of rocky road later and I'm raring to go. Cakes back in the oven and coming out a little airier...

nat i meant to add say that your pressie for DD sounds perfect. Very sweet and will be treasured forever. I've gone a less 'treasure forever' route and got lego and DVD for DS- selfishly thinking of things he'll both love and will keep him occupied!

All this talk of CS & early deliveries makes me a little nervous. I'm hoping I'll have a reasonably straightforward VD (that's sposed to be vag delivery not disease...) again. Positive thinking and all that. DS arrived bang on 40w. Atm the consultant has agreed to let me go to due date before inducing me. Fx they say the same thing at 37w.

Sorry- i think I'm high on chocolate now. better go run around the kitchen a few times....

MotherOfNations · 14/09/2013 17:51

I wasn't to bad. I think the excitement stops you thinking about it too much. I was really thirsty afterwards but they wouldn't let me drink straight away last time incase I was sick so I asked for a cup of ice cubes to suck on which they allowed.

MotherOfNations · 14/09/2013 17:56

Another thing Heffa. The spinal/Epidural makes my blood pressure drop really low so that I feel I might pass out. It felt quite frightening the first time but if you tell them they'll give you something straight away to bring it back up again.

claphammama · 14/09/2013 18:00

haha - also hoping for a nice VD here pink!

Flyer747 · 14/09/2013 18:08

Only just finished work for maternity leave and I've just received a letter through the post today advising me of dates that they are doing return to work courses in 2014 Grin (I have to complete a 2 week refresher course before I can return to the skies) nothing like starting the ball rolling early hey. Grin

Natalieand · 14/09/2013 18:11

How will it work when u return flyer as obviously your job isn't typical 9-5 hours. Does your dh work a job with standard hours? X

GTbaby · 14/09/2013 18:16

And another really random thing about catheters keep an eye on it as it gets full quickly. My post natal care was crap. Dr noticed bag was almost full. So got emptied, then after that I had to keep requesting it to be emptied again. Which was like 5times! At which point I was very glad I had a catheter as I didn't fancy that many trips to the loo.

It's a real shame nat if you don't have an electric bed as laying flat straight is not ideal. Would need pillows under knees, but we know there is a deficit of pillows in hospitals.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 14/09/2013 18:19

Thanks so much for the info, I feel a bit more prepared!

Hehe vd made me laugh! Grin immature

Haylebop12 · 14/09/2013 18:23

All this talk of CS is making me realise that although I will be going for a VD I could end up with one if things don't go to plan... (Not that I have a plan as such) so glad to hear all the hints and tips. I've also never had a catheter and really don't like the sound of them Sad

clapham what a turn of events! I'd definitely consider what they are going to offer, it's your call isn't it :-) even if work offered my exactly the same contract, pay, hours etc it wouldn't work as I'm 3 days flexible. What nursery is going to swap there days every week?! Only way round it is to be demoted, which essentially is ok as they can't make me take a pay cut.

Really hoping falcon is having done progression with her contractions.

flyer your dps parents sound lovely and not all "but my son is the best blah blah" enjoy your delicious sounding food... Mmm

Dd went to my parents at 4 and won't be back until tomorrow dinner time so will definitely get my bag packed tomorrow morning. Had a lovely evening although the tights were an issue. Everyone said I looked lovely so that was nice :-) there was also a two week old there who was due 2/10 and born 28/8 so had a little munch of him but brought back how quickly things can happen for us now!

Grrr I can't name check... Stupid phone!

Happy Saturday everyone... Dh is on his way back from work so gonna get dinner started and watch X factor. I timed mat leave well!!

Flyer747 · 14/09/2013 18:28

Nat forgot to say I love the gift idea for dd I had a ballerina musical jewellery box as a girl. She loves pink girlie stuff you say so she'd be chuffed with it I can imagine.

As for my job I will return to work part time, I can opt for 50% or 70% and that equates to 9 or 12 days per month I'd be away for. 9 days= 2 or 3 flights. 12 days= 3 or 4 flights, the routes differ on durations, New York I'm away for 2 nights, LA I'm away for 3 nights. It's a little confusing to explain. DP owns a business and will flex his meetings, working days and hours around my job. I've really missed flying so there is no way I want to give it up....although how I will feel about leaving my baby when the time comes I don't know. Plenty of my friends do it and love the time away as it gives them a little mini break and some me time.

MrsO27 · 14/09/2013 18:28

What a lovely way to finish up at work clapham
mon perfectly acceptable to get excited about electrical goods. I'm on countdown to Wednesday when we get a new striped carpet fitted on our stairs/hall. Seriously cannot wait. I also love the smell of new carpets, beyond what's normal I think.
DH is behaving himself a little more. Had a big chat last night and he had certainly been reflecting on his behaviour following Thrsday night. Can't remember who mentioned that men get freaked out by all the technical/gory details but he did say he finds it all quite overwhelming (lucky he's not the one doing it eh?!) but he knows he was wrong and has reassured me he's there for me 100%. Will wait and see but signs are encouraging for now.

MotherOfNations · 14/09/2013 18:30

Another wee tip. You might find it easier to dry your c-section wound with a paper towel after showering.

pinkbuttons · 14/09/2013 18:36

lovely to hear that everyone seems to have had a good day. 37 weeks here and SC, back pain still awful so hoping shell hang on for a bit until sort my back out.

MoN am very jealous of your tumble dryer! and even the possibility of a dishwasher. we have space for dryer but so far still working on it with DH.

How was cake making tarlia and how are you feeling?

and how is bp today pseudo?

Hope things are progressing for you falcon

clapham sounds like you had a really lovely last day, am glad it all turned out well and you were able to leave on such a positive note Smile

Another one here who has "what have we done" moments even though is DC 2. DS is just getting to the point of being able to entertain himself and I love spending time just the 3 of them so have had moments of panic but keep reminding myseld how much I loved having siblings to play with and it will all be ok in the end. We have plans the next few weekends so is likely this will be our last weekend as a threesome and have taken DS to the cinema for the first time which he loved. Overall a lovely day minus the horrendous back pain which is making it difficult to be in any position other than hung over my birthing ball.

Natalieand · 14/09/2013 18:39

Sorry flyer I hope I didn't come across rude I was just intrigued as one of the reasons I didn't return to work after dd was I worked shifts and dh worked shifts and didn't think we would be able to accommodate child care adequately for me to return for either no or very little increase in our income to me not working if that makes sense.

I'm at a bit like u hayle never really considered needing a c section I had a 'normal' delivery last time so I'm just assuming its going to be the same this time which is rather naive of me! X

Nellysgirl · 14/09/2013 18:55

Falcon, I totally understand what you are going through. I was assured my 'slow labour' would likely result in a baby within 7 days. I'm now on day 9 and its slower than ever and now just a few painful hours here and there.
Baby fully engaged and had show etc but still nothing very promising.
If it helps my midwife has assured me that each episode of contractions does count and make a difference and should hopefully mean shorter established labour.
Ill admit the well meaning texts and calls checking for 'any news?' Are not helping... And I feel really bad that I'm getting grumpy about it.
Every time I call someone they answer the phone with baited breath and nervous/excited tone. Only to sound deflated when I continue as normal and not mention anything to do with labour/birth/baby.

I would also like to jump into the 'what have I done' boat Hmm
I suffered a terrible confidence crisis yesterday and even decided that not only would I not be happy to meet my baby, that I didn't want it at all. I cried like a howling wolf on my sofa for an hour or so. Good news is that I've woken today feeling much better and hope you all do too. i like to blame random emotional outbursts on hormones.

Shall we all throw heartburn caution to the wind and enjoy Saturday night naughty takeouts, treats an trashy tv?
Think we deserve it!

Xx

MotherOfNations · 14/09/2013 19:06

Dp's making nasty cheesy pasta out of a box for him ad dc's. He knows even the smell makes me want to vomit not to mention the fact that I find it quite insulting as I make a perfetly nice macaroni cheese so he's brought me in a falafel wrap, peppermint chocolate, a toblerone, cadburys caramel dessert pots (full of pork gelatine that I don't eat but the thought was there) and a carton of mango smoothie.
I was just wondering this morning how I've managed to put on 7lbs this weekConfused

thethreeblondies · 14/09/2013 19:13

Chinese takeaway is on it's way! I'm a good girl and do as I'm told nelly hope it's worth the inevitable ibs that will follow later (although I managed to have that after just a cheese sandwich at the in laws last week!)

Racheld33 · 14/09/2013 19:13

nat i already have a DS, aged 3.2, who is the best thing in our lives, so I often get teary about how we're going to share our love!

I had him at 39 + 4 naturally (and easily) so hoping everything goes as well this time!

Today I have had my pre birth hair cut/highlights and been to buy DS presents from baby-got him some books, DVDs, power rangers outfit and slug terror gun (the joys of having a boy) I know it sounds a lot, but frantically doing everything to make the new baby arrival exciting for him!

Also nelly lots of high sugar Cake for you and your never ending labour!

cuillereasoupe · 14/09/2013 19:18

I nearly cried over my smallish bump earlier. DP said "oh but it's because you've got much broader hips than the other girls at the antenatal class, baby has plenty of sideways room". I think he meant it to be nice Hmm.

Flyer747 · 14/09/2013 19:19

Nat not at all chick I didn't even think you were rude Grin loads of people ask how it works in my job having a family etc I'd be asking the same to someone who did my job if I didn't (if that makes sense? Grin)
