Morning ladies!

Lilly was born at 2350 last night weighing 4.8 pounds. She's absolutely gorgeous! Feeding well and under the care of the transitional care team bc of her weight. Apparently we'll be in for 3 days for observation.

Ok stop reading now if you don't want to read rubbish birth stories..........

So we arrived in hospital for 1000 and it took 2.5 hours till I got assessed and the pessary to get put in. Then encouraged to walk around hospital and up and down stairs to get things moving. Our local delivery suite is being refurbished and so I was being observed on the gynae ward - so partners told to leave around 2100.

I started getting back pains 2030 and asked for paracetamol. The day time midwife left and the evening one came on and didn't introduce herself or check how things were.

Watched the Midwives program - that poor lady needing a pacemaker.

Started having mild contractions during the news - was trying to hypnobirth through each one (didn't work lol). The pain increased and the nameless midwife came and put the CTG machine on. Contractions gradually increased in intensity - but the midwife seemed incredulous that I could be in established labour ( I should have called DP at this point). After 20 minutes she checked me and felt I was fully dilated and the baby's head! I desperately asked her to call DP and then another mw appeared to help.

At this point I was in the middle of the ward groaning loudly and shouting "help" and calling for my mummy (!) - the I felt the need to push. But DP wasn't there yet! Nameless mw told me off for trying to clamp my legs shut - she said I would have to just deliver without him. So I pushed once then twice and Lilly was born! They had difficulty clamping and cutting the cord cos it was massive. DP arrived 5 minutes later - he was/is gutted Sad to have missed it.

I had a small tear - it took them 3 hours to get it sutured and three hours for a proper baby check ( poor show for s high risk baby ).

All in all - faster than my first delivery but poorly managed. I'm really disappointed with the way things turned out. I know that labour and delivery can be variable - but I felt DP shouldn't have been sent home based on my history and the haphazard delivery with people in and out of my bed space in the middle of the freaking ward scaring everyone all around me was just ....ugh!

Lilly is gorgeous though! Thanks for all your best wishes, now waiting to hear about legally's twins.

Sorry about the epic post........

claphammama · 11/09/2013 11:17

ooo... not the news I expected to find here today...

falcon so sorry to hear you are back to square one. Must be so frustrating. But it's only a matter of days now so won't be long in any case and hope you have an easy birth to compensate for this hard pregnancy. And obviously a beautiful baby in your arms will compensate for everything! Flowers

I bet legally is not updating us on her news because she has no hands free to type Grin One lovely baby on each!

so sorry to hear so many of your are suffering with high BP, headaches, sore ankles and other discomforts... not long to go now. Biscuit for everyone!

My terrible itching has miraculously disappeared overnight so I will relax and see how it goes before I run to have it checked. Thanks for explanation gt, didn't realise OC starts in feet and hands. My itching was mainly arms, thighs, bum (not bump) etc... but not feet or palms

JellyCurls · 11/09/2013 11:23

Congrats skull on your beautiful pink bundle and love her name. Sorry your birth wasn't how you planned but glad she's here now. X

SeriousStuff · 11/09/2013 11:25

skull huge congratulations!!! Wine Brew Flowers Cake

How frustrating that experience must have been for you and DP - I would be furious with them! But so pleased that you and Lilly are doing well. I hope DP gets some extra cuddles from her today.

claphammama · 11/09/2013 11:28

wow - congrats skull and welcome baby Lilly Grin Grin Grin Such amazing news!!

So sorry you had such a bad experience and so sorry for your DP... I think the way they handled it was absolutely terrible and it must have been so distressing for you. I can only imagine - without DP and in the middle of the ward... with a nameless midwife... The most important thing of course is that Lilly is ok and healthy and you can put it all behind you. Shame shame and shame on NHS tough xxx

Would you like me to add you and your new arrival to our spreadsheet?

Congrats again and I bet she is the most beautiful baby ever Grin

cuillereasoupe · 11/09/2013 11:31

I'm number 3 and I was a very quick birth too. My sister's number 4 took 20 minutes Shock

cuillereasoupe · 11/09/2013 11:33

Oops, must read to the end of the thread before posting - congratulations skull, skull DP and new arrival Lilly!

MrsHoratioNelson · 11/09/2013 11:33

Congratulations skull, how lovely :)

Sorry to hear the process was rubbish, but you're both ok, that's the main thing.

PseudoBadger · 11/09/2013 11:35

Congratulations Skull!! Fantastic news :)

Well I've spent the morning at the gp with DS in tow (childminder changed our days this week). My BP is now high (3 readings taken a good time apart highest 130/100 lowest 130/93) but no protein. She is speaking to my consultant at lunchtime to see if she can start me on meds or whether the hospital want to do some monitoring etc first. She's going to ring me back later.
I have a mild headache but think that's from DS-wrangling in the surgery :o

Just got home and am going to have a cuppa with a Starbucks muffin....

Congrats on your little pink bundle Lilly, love the name. Sorry your dh missed out on the experience. Xx if your on the Facebook group please share a picture with us :-)

MotherOfNations · 11/09/2013 11:39

Congratulations skull. So sorry that the birth didn't go how you wanted.

I'm having the labour like back pains again. I hope it cones to nothing as only 34+6. I was meant to be meeting a friend for lunch today but really couldn't be bothered. I just wanted to laze around at home until it'stone to collect youngest dd from school. Luckily my friend phoned to cancel because she was up all night feeling ill.

MotherOfNations · 11/09/2013 11:40

That sounds wrong. Not happy that friend is ill, just happy that I get my much needed lazy day at home.

roofio87 · 11/09/2013 11:45

congrats skull sorry it wasn't a good experience but thankful that little lilly made it out safe and well and is doing well now!!

textbook · 11/09/2013 11:48

Congrats skull - Lilly is a gorgeous name, try to forget about the disappointment and just enjoy cuddles Grin

Hope you're doing ok today Falcon, you must be totally fed up Thanks

Hope everyone else is doing ok today - I've been in the bath for almost an hour reading, and am getting hungry! Can't be arsed to get out at the moment though ...

HotSoupDumpling · 11/09/2013 11:53

Congratulations Skull family!

It's such good news that you and baby are safe and well now. Although that doesn't minimise at all the fact that your hospital has to pull its finger out and improve the experience for other mums.

pinkbuttons · 11/09/2013 11:54

Congratulations skull!! Thanks So sorry to hear how badly the hospital dealt with your labour but so glad to hear Lilly is here safe and doing so well. I hope the care you get now is much better. xx

pseudo sorry to hear BP has gone up again, really hope your getting chance to rest a little bit with that starbucks muffin x

textbook am jealous of your daytime bath!! no chance of that here with clingy toddler in tow.

thethreeblondies · 11/09/2013 11:58

Congratulations skull glad Lilly got here safely, hope they are extra nice to u during your stay to make up for letting u down a bit during labour! xx

Smitten1981 · 11/09/2013 12:01

Congratulations Skull, glad you are both ok.

Your delivery sounds awful though, I can't believe they send the DP's home at all. You're both in this together.

I can't say I'm surprised though, NHS continuity of care has been very poor for me too so far. I'm on my fourth midwife at the docs and the last one didn't give me her name or contact number. Shambles. i think I'll just deal with the hospital directly when the time comes being as I have no idea who I'm supposed to call when things start happening.

Sanjifair · 11/09/2013 12:02

Congratulations, Skull! Wow, 2 pushes and out, no holding that baby up! Such a shame that your DP missed it. What a rubbish midwife, grr.

Pinkforboys · 11/09/2013 12:07

Congratulations Skull! Bl**dy hospital for not giving you the attention you needed- but well done you for doing it on your own. I'd love to have seen the look on the faces of the others in the ward!
Enjoy baby Lilly xxxxx

pseudo sending you BP lowering vibes through the ether x

cherrycherry41 · 11/09/2013 12:21

Congrats skull!! Thanks

Got my c section date today- 30th September!! :D Can someone add that to the spreadsheet for me please Smile

roxvox · 11/09/2013 12:22

Woohoo! Baby news at last! Congratulations skull and family. I hope that cuddles with baby Lilly help you to forget the useless staff!

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 11/09/2013 12:29

Just quickly posting to send huge congratulations to Skull and family. I hope you and little Lilly can go home very soon. I bet she is totally gorgeous x

The care you received sounds completely inadequate and you (and your DP) have every right to feel sad, disappointed and angry with regards to your birth experience. Once the dust settles, you may wish to explore whether any sort of birth debriefing/feedback process exists.

In the meantime enjoy lots of newborn cuddles...

takingachance · 11/09/2013 12:34

Congratulations skull on the arrival of Lilly!

Sorry the birth didn't go as expected, but bet your enjoying your newborn cuddles now :-) xx

Haylebop12 · 11/09/2013 12:37

Congratulations skull and your family. In so sorry to hear your experience was far from desirable but glad she's here safe.

Congrats on getting your section date cherry you have your goal in sight. Must be very exciting!

textbook your bath sounds lovely. I might have one of those next week... Guilt free as dd starts full time tomoz.

Well mil still here, has been since Friday. Ready for my space now tbh and enjoy relaxing on my maternity leave. Ho hum....
