Morning ladies!
Lilly was born at 2350 last night weighing 4.8 pounds. She's absolutely gorgeous! Feeding well and under the care of the transitional care team bc of her weight. Apparently we'll be in for 3 days for observation.
Ok stop reading now if you don't want to read rubbish birth stories..........
So we arrived in hospital for 1000 and it took 2.5 hours till I got assessed and the pessary to get put in. Then encouraged to walk around hospital and up and down stairs to get things moving. Our local delivery suite is being refurbished and so I was being observed on the gynae ward - so partners told to leave around 2100.
I started getting back pains 2030 and asked for paracetamol. The day time midwife left and the evening one came on and didn't introduce herself or check how things were.
Watched the Midwives program - that poor lady needing a pacemaker.
Started having mild contractions during the news - was trying to hypnobirth through each one (didn't work lol). The pain increased and the nameless midwife came and put the CTG machine on. Contractions gradually increased in intensity - but the midwife seemed incredulous that I could be in established labour ( I should have called DP at this point). After 20 minutes she checked me and felt I was fully dilated and the baby's head! I desperately asked her to call DP and then another mw appeared to help.
At this point I was in the middle of the ward groaning loudly and shouting "help" and calling for my mummy (!) - the I felt the need to push. But DP wasn't there yet! Nameless mw told me off for trying to clamp my legs shut - she said I would have to just deliver without him. So I pushed once then twice and Lilly was born! They had difficulty clamping and cutting the cord cos it was massive. DP arrived 5 minutes later - he was/is gutted
to have missed it.
I had a small tear - it took them 3 hours to get it sutured and three hours for a proper baby check ( poor show for s high risk baby ).
All in all - faster than my first delivery but poorly managed. I'm really disappointed with the way things turned out. I know that labour and delivery can be variable - but I felt DP shouldn't have been sent home based on my history and the haphazard delivery with people in and out of my bed space in the middle of the freaking ward scaring everyone all around me was just ....ugh!
Lilly is gorgeous though! Thanks for all your best wishes, now waiting to hear about legally's twins.
Sorry about the epic post........
