Newly diffed right through to new Mums. A thread for the over 30's expecting their first baby.

I think my dad prolonged the horror deliberately actually. He is a git.

Brave I am sorry you are having such a hard time of it at the moment. Your DP sounds very unsupportive and it must be very hard, when everything is so up and down and new and changeable, to know what to do and to not be very emotional about it all. Do feel like you can share here, we are all here with kind words and sympathy and Brew.

Cavort · 06/10/2013 19:18

Oh Quod that is hilarious just awful. I wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry. It's obviously horrendously cringeworthy now but i'm sure you'll look back and laugh about it in years to come. Grin

Hazle that sounds totally rank. I hope you did the decent thing and gave all your business to the crepe stall. Smile

Lol there is a word missing but I assume that word is 'slept,' in which case that is bloody great news and I am totally Envy. Elodie manages 5/6 hours at a push but usually more like 3/4. How do I get one of these sleeping babies? The sleep training is going ok, we haven't allowed her to sleep on us for about a week now. We put her down drowsy and she goes to sleep on her own. We do still have to be with her though stroking her head or hand but it's a step in the right direction.

I hope your leg feels better soon Mother. It must be so sore along side the SPD.

Brave I really don't know what to say. Having a new baby is tough enough without having all this added shit. Please don't stay away from us though, come on here or FB and vent as much as you like.
Expressing also got tougher for me when my supply settled so I experimented a bit and found I get loads more earlier in the day and when i'm just out of the bath or shower. I also bought these which also help to get more out and feel lovely.

We have been to a DH family Christening today, which was great as Elodie was removed from us before we went into the church and not delivered back until we were leaving (apart from a brief mid-afternoon feeding visit). As a result she didn't sleep all afternoon and passed out in the car home about 5pm. This buggers up what small semblance of a bedtime routine we have as she is still asleep and I don't know if she is gone for the night or if it's just a nap? Bah!!

Quod what a story! post us said pics on fb will you
Cav yeah the missing word was slept! To be honest you are much more structured than me and I'm always amazed that you know what time Elodie napped and how long, and what else she has done on a day. I don't know any of this so could not tell you why Lara sleeps or not! The only thing I can tell you after speaking to this nurse on thu is that I have started giving her a dummy if she asks for a feed straight after having one or a very short time after. That hopefully helps with the comfort feeding I was having. She also told me to offer her a feed 3 hours after she fed even if she doesn't ask for it unless she is sleeping. She is not a believer in dream feeds and thinks I should let her sleep until she is hungry. Like I said it may be luck but the last three days were a lot better. Or it could be the wine on my milk which made her sleep GrinGrin

BraveLilBear · 07/10/2013 07:29

Oh Quod. Wow. Just wow. And Grin

Poor you! I have nearly been in a similar position myself when my dad was looking at some pics on my camera of something or other and I'd forgotten about the provocative (but clothed) selfies I'd taken. Remembered just in time (I think).

In fact, I had a few close calls with those ones need to clear memory card more often my sister found them once but she just raised an eyebrow and laughed.

What on earth did they say after?!!

Thanks for the support. After a Really Bad Saturday which culminated in me reeling off a long list of Things That Have Been Upsetting Me at midnight in bed (we had a whole row in angry whispers so we didn't wake the baby), we actually had a Very Nice Sunday. It's bizarre but we're both making more of an effort to be nice.

Plus he is booking off the day at work when H has his 12 week jabs and I have coil put in which is progress.

Thanks for that tip Cavort - will definitely get one of them.

How's the leg Mother?

And great news on the apology Lol... plus am very Envy about your long sleeps! Great work! :)

BelissimaLol · 07/10/2013 09:42

That's great news brave. Sometimes it needs to get worse before it gets better! I'm in the same boat. Feeling better but still fancying a few days away from him so as he can see what he has! Plus I'd be spoilt by friend and mother in law, no washing to be done and no cooking GrinGrin

Cavort · 07/10/2013 09:48

Lol I think your way is better sleep-wise. I thought that by taking more notice of when/how long she slept I might notice a pattern as her own routine develops, but the only pattern I have noticed so far is that there isn't any pattern to it! Confused Well actually there is a pattern... she sleeps for about 14 hours in every 24 (Envy), but that can be in any combination of daytime naps and nighttime sleeping.

Hello all. Was going to wait until my dating scan to come and crash your thread, but since they've put it back to next week, and I'll be 12 weeks tomorrow, and I found myself looking at double buggy reviews this morning, I suppose I should bite the bullet and ask to join you? especially as I appear to have killed the helicopter thread by grumbling about being fat Besides which, any thread in which the discussion involves inlaws watching a slide-show of naked pregnant holiday sunbathing has got to be good Grin

You may have to put up with a bit of mentalling until I get the all clear from the dating/nuchal which is next Weds, but if that's acceptable then, er, hello!

Cavort · 07/10/2013 11:06

Hello Boom, of course, come on in! Mental all you like, we're used to it in here Smile

OP posts:
Quodlibet · 07/10/2013 11:11

Yes! Boom you bring double berry points. We need some more gestating babies on this thread.

Brave I am glad you have cleared the air somewhat with DH and are feeling a bit better about it all.

I am feeling rubbish today - weak and faint and quite short of breath. Low blood pressure maybe? It's generally on the low side anyway. Luckily working at home this week so feet up on the sofa!

CatsCantFlyFast · 07/10/2013 11:36

Quod i promise i did not laugh at your photo story not one bit. Had a work colleague with a similar story at a gigantic family Xmas. Whole extended family in the living room after Xmas lunch and the Uncle decides to show their holiday snaps to everyone on the TV. Queue lots of naked bed photos and some sex photos of Uncle and Aunt being shown at random in amongst the hol snaps. She said the funniest part was watching him trying to make it stop playing them, and failing, whilst everyone else either cried with laughter or covered the kids eyes!!

Boom knew you would have to give in eventually! There's a couple of us with Which subscriptions on here so if you need double buggy reviews there's always somebody who can give you the which scores/opinions

Boomgoestheweasel · 07/10/2013 12:01

Thanks for the welcome guys Smile

Oooh merk a Which subscription? I may take you up on that! Although to be honest all the ones I've seen so far look unbelievably complicated and enormous and terrifying

I love these naked photo slideshow stories Grin

Quod remind me how far on you are again?

Quodlibet · 07/10/2013 12:05

Boom I am (quite unbelievably to me) 30 weeks now. It is totally true that the time dragging in first trimester is balanced out by time flying after about 20 weeks...

Boomgoestheweasel · 07/10/2013 12:23

Wow Quod really? Can't believe you're that far on! Well I can only hope time stops dragging a bit for me then, I do feel like I'm wading through treacle to reach the next scan!

MotherOfCleo · 07/10/2013 12:43

Haha quod I think I would have been praying for the earth to swallow me!

Hi boom nice to see you! You are of course very very welcome! Grin Afraid I will be no help on double buggies though, I would suggest nipping into mothercare or something and trying a few out, I was terrified when I first went in as I looked like a bumpless fraud but the lady was so so helpful! Plus you can mental, moan and whinge all you like, you'll fit right in Wink

brave I'm glad you managed to clear the air a bit! These men are bloody hard work huh! The leg is much better thanks, can't believe how feeble my body is getting though. I am very very ready to have my body back.

lol I would still go, sounds like a nice opportunity to me!

MotherOfCleo · 07/10/2013 21:42

my OH is taking the piss out of me sitting on my ball Sad not particularly helpful.......admittedly I look special but there is no need to record and play it back to me laughing Confused Blush

BelissimaLol · 07/10/2013 22:37

Yay boom! Welcome to the dark side Grin. Can I now tempt you to join us on fb or is that pushing our luck??
Mother I had the same issue. Dh did laugh at me but the baby turned in the end (I was back to back at 36wk) so it was worth the shame of it all!
Been to baby gap today and ended up buying a load of stuff. I mean, pink is my favourite colour but even I am tired of dressing Lara in baby pink. So today I bought red, navy and orange things!!! Spent a fortune just in time for my mat pay to kick in ConfusedConfused
Cav how's sleeping going?
Silly question- did you lot sterilise Sophie the giraffe before baby had it for the first time?

janey1234 · 07/10/2013 22:39

Hi boom and welcome! And two berries - wowzers that is exciting...

why did my iPhone keep changing wowzers to wieners then?!

Brave - bloody hell you're having a rough time. Moan away. We're all here to listen. And hope things are all a bit better again today

Mother - tell him what you'll do with the ball if he doesn't put the phone away!

Miles has no rigid daytime regime, except that I limit his sleep to about four hours if need be. I make sure he has his bath at 6pm though and is in bed by 7pm, then wake him to feed him at ten. I feel like a terrible mum as I quite often so have to wake him at about 5.30pm - poor sod - as I'm scared if I don't he will be up all night!

janey1234 · 07/10/2013 22:41

Oh and lol no I didn't. But soon realised I should have when he rammed it in his mouth Blush Yet again, i am clearly a terrible mother....Hmm

BraveLilBear · 08/10/2013 02:23

Lol I actually think heat sterilising would melt a Sophie so we just clean it in soapy water nowhere near often enough I suppose if you had the cold water sterilising stuff it might be ok?

Or maybe it would survive a waft of one of those 'clean with the power of steam' cleaners?

We got a teething bitey thing the other day and it specifically said on it not suitable for sterilising...

Then again, H often sucks on one of our knuckles godddon't judge me it's the only option in the dreaded dummy v floor sitch and we can't sterilise them. Can we?

Boomgoestheweasel · 08/10/2013 06:57

Well, 12 weeks today! Roll on next Weds stupid late dating scan, chunter chunter

mother ooh I can't possibly go into mothercare until I've got visible bumpage! I'll keep looking at online reviews for now...

lol ooh yes I'm up for a bit of Facebook sharing, I am a nosy cow love knowing what people look like!

janey iPhones have dirty minds Grin still haven't come to terms with the fact that there's two in there, struggle enough to get my head round there being even one!

What's a Sophie? Is it that rubber giraffe?

BelissimaLol · 08/10/2013 08:04

Yay boom pm me your name and I will ads you. We currently have 6 mums and 6 pg berries but 3 of them are near the end so we need more new ones!
Yeah Sophie is a teething squeaky giraffe. I seem to have also bought a soft toy one by accident but as it's cute I've decided to keep it. Still not sure if I risk sterilising it! Cav have you done it!!

HazleNutt · 08/10/2013 08:14

boom wow, twins! So exciting!

My Sophie clearly states that it's not to be sterilised. Then again, mine is French and they don't sterilise anything here. Still so funny how in the UK you absolutely must use 70 degree water to kill the bacteria in the formula - and here the formula pack says not to use water over 40 degrees. So they have some special bacteria in the UK versions or maybe it's just a conspiracy to make formula-feeding as complicated as possible?

Boomgoestheweasel · 08/10/2013 09:12

I've always wondered why all babies seem to have to have a toy giraffe Blush

Sent you a pm lol

Hazle don't France have different rules on how long a pregnancy lasts as well? I believe it's 41 weeks' gestation on the other side of the Channel..

Quodlibet · 08/10/2013 09:17

I reckon sterilisation has to stop somewhere - babies try to put most of the world in their mouths when they are little and you can't sterilise everything...and surely anything you sterilise is only sterile for 5 minutes - once it's been in your handbag and out again its got a whole new load of germs on it?

MotherOfCleo · 08/10/2013 09:25

I agree with quod, you can't sterilise everything all the time. Imagine when they are older and make mud pies in the garden Smile

Happy 12 weeks boom Thanks
