Hi
wow loads to catch up on.
HK - blimey - how scarey. Glad things are ok now though, but must be strange to know it could happen any time now.
Welcome petrified!
I have been feeling really uncomfortable ths weekend. I just feel huge now , my ribs are sticking in to the top of my bump, my belly feels stretched like a drum and LO is kicking almost constantly (that's how it feel - can they be TOO active?) and I feel bruised on the inside.
We go on holiday to cornwall on saturdy which I am really looking forward to but I am not looking forward to the 6/7 hour drive down there, will make sure I take loads of cushions to prop my self up with!
Haven't done the loo roll thing yet - do I go all the way round theback? I did have a dream about doing it though the other night and I was 15 sheets, when everyone else was about 9, so I was worried that I was going to give birth to a monster!

mabel i know exactly how you feel - i have aches and pains all the time and as DH helpfully remarked - it's not going to get any better is it!

and when i get up in the morning it's like my legs and feet have seized up and just won't work to start with!

that said I feel a whole lot better than yesterday and it's raining!!!!!! it's so much cooler here now

have great days everyone

My parents are now totally convinced I'm carrying a boy as LO kicked all the way through the England match last night!

I think I've totally missed the loo roll thread - how and why are we measuring bumps?

Pol - I really like the idea of the scrap book. I haven't kept a record of anything so far, I guess cos I don't really have anyone to share it all with but I'd like to keep all LO's bits and pieces when they arrive. And I haven't even thought about announcement cards! I think I might have a look on ebay for some crafty stuff.

HellKat - Congrats on finding out you're carrying a girl. I hope you don't have any more visits to hospital until your due date. I can't believe that LO is only about 2lb now as it feels like a mini-elephant when it moves! There was an announcement in the local paper for someone who'd had a little girl who was 11lb4oz at birth and my mate told me that the little boy she child minds for was 11lb3oz when born! I reckon LO will be 9-10lbs ish. Isn't there a point when they can give you a fairly accurate weight?

norms you poor thing and your poor lo and the bears - what about bears don't live in our town? although it sounds a bit lame even to me

dh here is a lawyer so works stupid hours so normally when i complain of being tired he just looks at me as if to say "did you get home from work at 2am every morning for the past 10 days???" at least now he has to have some sympathy!

Norms - your poor DS - don't really know what to say. Does he have a favourite soft toy that could stand guard for him or something.
I am trying to think of ways to amuse DS on our car journey on saturday - any thoughts? So far we are setting off at stupid o'clock in the monring so he sleeps (touch wood) for most of it and I have told DH to get him a few new little Hot Wheels and things to save for the journey and a notebook to do some drawing.
Mandaz - I was told by my midwife from about 36 weeks that DS wasn't particularly big, however about a week before I was due I saw a different midwife who said he might be quite large and he was 8lb 6oz. So I'm not sure how accurate they are.
I feel wiped out today - really tired, I have been quite slck about taking my iron tablets though - must try harder!

Norms, poor you! How old is he? Remember a while back DD went through a two week period of hysterical crying & waking through the night etc, wanting to get into our bed etc....infact didn't quite know why it happened. Maybe without stating the obvious just bide your time & see whether it passes?? Maybe it's just a passing fad??

HK, a little girl!!!!!!! Congratulations...hang in there!

Lysettes, if your well after the birth them I don't see why you shouldn't go on a plane at 6 weeks! We took DD skiing when she was 11 weeks (pre-booked before we knew etc...) & it was fine. We've travelled a lot with her on planes & believe me much easier when they are small!!! If your breasfeeding piece of cake, if not then just get a portable box with some steri tablets & if your in Europe (where are you going?) you can buy the same nappies & everything you can here!!!

Am off to measure my bump....

Hey everyone...

I am big boned pre preg too . ok, no thats not true I just eat tooooo much!

Mandaz- ebay is a great place to start for your bubbas scrapbook, you can get some v.reasonably priced stuff there. I am always hunting for a good bargain!

It's been raining here today too, all preg women cheer as it means cooler weather! Except our new washing machine got delivered today so I have heaps of washing to do and no sunshine to dry it. The house will be hot tonight then as i'll have the tumble dryer or have the house looking like a chinese laundry with it hung everywhere!

Hope everyone is ok! Yeah i'm 28 weeks!!!

Also DD has had her date for her MMR and luckily it's after mindee leaves so I can give her undivided attention. I hope she isn't too poorly with it. I am going to give her calpol before we go tho just to make sure.

clairemow · 26/06/2006 14:17

hi Pol, good idea re. the calpol before injection. When DS had his MMR, we had no problems at all, except he was a bit off colour and moody about a week later. I hope it all goes well.

Report
Lysettes · 26/06/2006 15:04

pol i heard that calpol was great to give them before MMR and other jabs.

thanks for the support re the air / non air trip at 6 weeks. think i am going to go with a trip to the cotswolds as a start at around 6 weeks and then atttempt flying in november - just the three of us to somewhere we can laze.

dh has finally come to the idea that he may be a little too ambitious about travel etc and how tired we will be once lo arrives!

Report
pol26 · 26/06/2006 15:17

Glad you have decided against flying at 6 weeks, it's stressful enough on your relationship when you have a new bubba let alone trying to fly! I'm sure you will enjoy the Cotswolds much much more!

Also glad i'm not seen as 'drugging' my DD on calpol before, just i'll be emotional enough seeing her get her jab let alone having her feeling off colour afterwards! Feeling v.teary just lately anything makes me cry! But was the same when preg with DD.

Pol - I took a biscuit with me for DS's MMR - bribery or what!

I'm afraid I ignored all advice and went to work today for my important meeting - regretting it now of course and thinking how wise you all are! Going to 'work' from home tomorrow (love my flexible job) and have some extra sleep. Also got an extension for my uni assignment so stress levels just dropped 10 points at least

Measuring 8 sheets of asda shades (at 26 1/2 wks), lady from office said she thought I was further along than actually am today! first for me Mandaz - I think this one started because so many of us were being told how huge we were and thinking we were abnormal - though from everyone's posts I think we're all about the same for dates!

I read somewhere that toddlers can't differentiate reality from imagination so no point in trying to deny the bear exists. Would the bear like a biscuit and go away to the kitchen? Good luck with that one, hope it's just a phase and will pass before LO arrives.

Hi everyone
mabel1973 - I can sympathise with the rib pain. We went away this weekend and sitting in the car for 3 hours was no picnic!! We're off on holiday soon which will involve a 6 hour drive and I'm not looking forward to it!!
Hellkat - hope things have calmed down a bit for you and congrats on your baby girl

Hello all,

Can I just say how jealous I am of all those with flexible jobs! I am a primary school teacher and am beginning to regret saying that I would stay on until the end of term....4 weeks away! (I am 32 weeks...) My kids are lovely little 5 year olds but after a day with 30 of them I'm completely knackered. Incidently, pol, schools don't necessarily call home for a head injury but they are supposed to let the parent know - preferably in writing - so that they can monitor the child. Mind you, in sounds like your nephew was in a bad enough way that they just should have called home straight away.

Petrified - do I take it from the name that you are another first timer? I thought I was the only virgin pregnancy (if you see what I mean...). Good to have you!!

Hi,
Norms, sorry your DS is so frightened at the minute. I've no advice but I hope he's over it soon, poor cookie.

HK, gosh you seem remarkably calm, all things considered. I hope your lo stays put a while longer.

Re bumps to the head. I'm almost certain it's statutory to record it in writing. This should be both in the accident book and in a letter sent home with the child. I used to send bumped head notes home even if there was no mark as it's important for parents to know what's happened in case the child begins acting strange later that evening.
When I was an NQT, there was a child in school who fell in the playground on a Fri pm. She seemed fine but her teacher sent a note home anyway. Turned out she was having a slow bleed into her brain. When she started acting strange on the sat her mum remembered the head knock, took her to A&E and they scanned her to be sure. Luckily, she was absolutely fine and made a full recovery (she was only 5). That experience(although I wasn't her teacher) has probably made me over-cautious but who knows if her mum would have been so quick to get her checked out had she not known about the bumped head.
Pol, it sound like your nephew had quite a nasty bump and in that case, as well as recording it, I would have called his mum. Even if she decided he was fine to stay at school, she should have been given the option.

I'm sure I was advised by the nurse to give calpol before jabs anyway as it stops a fever from developing.

Welcome, Petrified!

BTW, thanks for info on American sizing. I should have remembered to check my gap trousers. I've actually found some lovely chocolate brown bootleg trousers in Formes now so just need to find a top.

DH is cooking me roast chicken and roast spuds at the moment and they smell lovely. Going to have salad instead of veg though. He's also doing apple crumble and custard for afters.
Hmmmmm.... wonder what he's after. I'm going to tease him and say, 'oh I'm so tired I'm off to bed early now' and watch his face drop!

clairemow · 26/06/2006 19:43

Homemama, why aren't you having lovely roast veg? If you don't want any, can you send them to me?! DH is away all week, and I am cooking boring old pasta in cheese sauce for myself for tonight and DS for tomorrow lunch.

Is anyone else beginning to freeze portions of meals to avoid cooking in the first couple of weeks of the new baby, or am I just being neurotic?? Mind you, still no bag packing going on here...

Report
Lysettes · 26/06/2006 20:17

clairemow and homemama i'll join the queue for the roast veg - especially the potatoes!

i've got as far as defrosting and running the freezer down - 9 month old frozen tuna steaks anyone????

when i told dh i was going to stock it up he suggested that we would be find on "chicken and salad" which he would be happy to do - a lovely thought but he's going to be as shattered as I am (not that he's epecting that), so no, clairemow you're not being neurotic! ours will be stocked with curry, spag bol sauce and chilli beef sauce by the end of next week

my feet have actually stayed near normal sized for the whole of today - breakthrough!

Thanks all
I am pretty calm but think it's because she's measuring a good two weeks later than dates. At least she won't be scrawny . Hard to believe if we get to term she'll be over 9lb!

Glad everyone else is doing well. Here's to happy, healthy last few weeks. Wow what a ride!

Oh Claire, I love roast veg, esp carrots and parsnips. It's just that salad felt somehow healthier and easier.
Anyway, I've had it now and it was very nice.
However, you've now got me craving boiled carrots and parnips, mashed together with lots of black pepper. Yummy!!!

Glad you're doing ok, HK.

Just a small word of caution Lysettes - I don't know if you're intending to breastfeed or not, but when I was bf DS last time, curry was a disaster (or anything spicy) - it gave DS massive indigestion, and we had our worst night's (non)sleep ever the night DH and I splashed out on a take away curry... And I had loads of chili in the freezer that I didn't dare eat!!!

going to dream about roast parsnips tonight. My personal favourite... yum yum.

Just been out for a meal at cafe rouge, thanks to tesco's clubcard vouchers... Was fab and sooo full now. Bonus is we still have loads of vouchers left and can go again! Yeah! We are making the most of it before bubba 2 comes and we are too knackered.

Hi Mandaz ? Dr. said DS2 would be 7.5 pounds, though will echo Mabel on accuracy. Would be surprised if he were more than 8. Dr.?s also guesstimating my total weight gain will be 35 pounds.

Mabel ? We take various snacks (dried fruits, raisins, pretzels, small crackers) in tiny plastic containers and play waiter/waitress to DS1 ? eating keeps him occupied ? Also, play music he likes (not kid music, but Beatles, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton). On the way to Kansas City, played Beatles' rendition of "Kansas City Here I Come" - he loved it! We're one of the very few couples we know who have small child(ren) without a DVD player in the car, but not a big fan of that concept right now. Never go more than 3-hour car trips.

Norms, so sorry. I?m like your DH on sleep, so feeling for both of you.

Lysettes ? DH2 may be only 5 weeks when we take 2-hour flight to my parents?, but apparently air travel is safe for this age .

Lysettes & Clairemow ? Very impressed with frozen meals concept! Storing at least some chili in 2-serving freezer bags might save our ordering out quite so much ?

Though my toilet product wouldn?t correspond, I?m a 103 cm loop around-back-to-belly-button. How many UK squares is that?

By the way, congrats to your team in World Cup!! Was embarrassing just how quickly we were gone - Wish no one had talked up the US team first; that made it worse!! Am watching for England right now!

i am intending to bf, so the curry may well go DH's way - I have been eating quite spicy curry and chilli all the way through the pregnancy, in an effort that it gets the lo used to it - have read in an number of places that this helps them get used to the flavours in the amniotic fluid. but we'll see

thanks marls re the flying info - it's more that dh is being very ambitious about what we will be able to do and how tired we will or won't be!

Has anyone had any conversations with DH or DPs about paternity leave - mine said last night that he now won't be taking his two weeks allowance as work will be too busy - any thoughts on this or am I just overreacting by being a bit shocked? I had just assumed I guess as it's our first that he would be taking the full amount
