Lysettes, re. the BCG - when I had DS, in London, he had the BCG at birth. It didn't cause any problems at all, although for the next 2-3 months it did get a bit of puss from time to time. I was happy for him to have it where we lived, as TB was on the rise there. In fact, they were quite adament he should have it, and in one hospital some of my friends were at, they wouldn't let them leave until it had been done (hmmm...). It isn't offered where we now live though, as there isn't a high rate of TB. It does mean (or should mean) he won't have to have the BCG booster when he's older as we all did. I found the info below on the net:

we had tears today because not only are my feet like old ladies' feet, but my legs are too - i'm so pathetic !

Hey there!

Feeling very happy, just spent £90 on scrapbooking bits for new babies album... DP doesn't know and won't either! But seens as I have brought pram and all clothes so far feel justified in splurging on something totally useless but beautiful.

And DP going out tonight so going to cover the whole of the lounge floor with crafty bits and make our birth announcements tonight!!! Yeah, getting so excited already!

Also, do you think this is bad...? Went to see DP'd nephew and god son today who had fallen over at school on Friday. He has a lump on his head like an egg and a black eye which is nearly completely closed with chunks taken out of his face where he had fallen over. He is 9 btw. His leg is covered in grazes (I know they looked bad but are just superficial) It happened on Friday morning break and no one called home despite his head bleeding lots and his mum said when she collected him atr home time his head was still bleeding lots and she got through three pads on his head while waiting at a&e because she was v.worried about him. Surely his school should have called his mum???!!! I thought with all head injuries you should call home. She didn't even have to sign an accident form! Btw he tripped on a random concrete slab on the grass...
I said When he goes back on Monday to have a word with his teacher and ask thier policy on accidents as i'm sure they should've called home (and she was in all day). Luckily he was all ok but his face is a mess and his eye is too.

Thaks for hugs. Feeling a bit better now but will be raising issues with midwife and doctors etc.

Re TB thing, I'd go on the advice for the area you live in. Where I am is small town/rural so very teeny risk and wouldn't be prepared to give my newborn a BCG. If I lived in inner city though the risk of TB might outweigh the risk of complications from the vaccine. There seem to be a number of countries where TB vaccinations for newborns are common practice so there's been plenty of opportunities for health care professionals to consider risk v. benefit.

There are so many things we all need to careful about according to midwives and doctors aren't there! Sometimes it would just be nice to live an my little dreamworld of perfect births and perfect babies without being disturbed

Speaking of nice things, DH thinks I've gone bananas but I've now packed the baby part ofmy labour case, just food and entertanment in my section to sort now! When I was in the delivery suite the other night though I noticed that they only had a cassette player so me CDs would be a bit useless in that room! NHS budget cuts...

Pols - £90 on scrapbooking, I wouldn't dare - DH would flip! Bet you're going to have a fantastic scrapbook though!

Liquid - No music players of any kind in US hospital rooms, BTW - so brought a portable CD player with us for DS1 birth. Pink Floyd's The Wall is perfect for labor because music flows and the singing character is someone who identifies with suffering ... Have not heard it in 3 years and will probably use it again.

Pols - all DS1 pics still in shoeboxes by date; will probably never get them into a scrapbook ...

Hi everyone hope you are all well.

Lo decided to stay perfectly still until after miday today (when she went crazy) just to scare mummy half to death. Was so worried about my little bump.
I'm at work right now but I'll be measuring my bump with toilet roll as soon as I get in. Feeling quite small so it'd be nice to compare.

Pol, I've been off meat since I got pg with this one. Only food I really like is potatoes, and I can eat loads of them I've got the same book as you for ds and he tells me off because our baby is called Ligbeth (Elizabeth if you're not a toddler!)

Lysettes, I wouldn't fancy taking a 6 week old on a plane. We took ds to Center Parcs at that age, but it's less than an hour away, doesn't involve a flight and is very very very very child friendly.

Look after your bumps x

Marls - like the idea of how 'comfortably numb' will go with my epi!

I completely forgot to put music in last time or any reading material for me - DH was fine but I got a bit bored once I didn't have breathing and panting to worry about!

Bubba stayed still on Wednesday all day and even when poked... We were worried too but went crazy at midnight and so now worried.

Sooooo excited at getting my scrapbook stuff... and feel justified as he is out tonight.

Hiya all. Sorry I have'nt posted but been laid up in Hospital! Stuck there since Tuesday.
Got back yesterday late afternoon after kicking up enough fuss. Bar 2 mw's there & the consultants, the rest were awful!! They refused to listen to the consultants (& me) when they said I was 2cms dilated & contracting (kept calling them "irregular tightenings" even though they were timed at exactly 2 mins apart & 1.50 mins long!!!!!) Luckily the main people there with clout (i.e consultants) relaised what happened. Anyhoo, labouring stopped. She measured on Tuesday at 27+5 2lb5ozs!!!!!!!!!!! They said if I get to term she'll be 9/10lbs (and yep it's a little girl )
On top of everything I've now got a lovely uti & bone infection where my pelvic bones joins (where I normally get spd) so it's all great! But feeling very happy, chilled etc now that i know she's healthy & big. They're not sure how long I've got, could basically labour at anytime so taking it all easy. My cervix is still dilated and I've got severe thinning & funnelling. But it's holding together for now & that's the main thing.
Hope everyone's well & hopefully I'll be back to posting regularly again
Welcome Petrified!!!!!
(((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))) to all xxxxxxxxxxxx

HK WOW!!!!! How are you feeling in yourself - apart from being over the moon and knowing that you have a lovely little girl growing and that she's going to be a good size! Make sure you take it easy though - and I mean easier than you think is taking it easy

pol - what kind of things are you doing for the scrapbook? It sounds like a great idea. I have a pregnancy book where I have written all the ideas that we have had, and thoughts and the lo's "firsts" through the pregnancy, but now we have 4d scan pics etc we need somewhere else to put them.

Went out for a wonderful meal last night with DH and an old work colleague of his, but this morning I feel dreadful. Haven't got out of bed yet - feel sick, tummy feels dreadful and all hot and cold - feel like I'm really hung over!

Also I read on another thread (maybe one of our old ones) that if you really want them to move and they won't, have a sugary drink, lie down and 45 mins later they're up and about - it works for us when lo decides to sleep all day although saying that he's been kicking like mad last couple of days.

Calvemjoe I think I've successfully steered Dh away from the air trip at 6 weeks! Discussing it in front of others is working as they all think he's mad, so he's accepting it's a bit too ambitious!

Anyway, have a great day, and look after yourselves - and take it easy if you should be!

Petrified-Welcome glad you've joined us

Hellkat- congrats on your lil' girl!!!

Lysettes- I have done a scrapbook for DD and is now ongoing... Put in the scan pictures, first things done when preg etc... and then mainly her newborn pics and firsts. Put in her first picture, her tag from her ankle, her belly button clip, and lots of piccies with first visitors, first bath, and lots of snoozy bubba ones, then her first food at about 5mnths, trips out etc.... first hol, birthday, christmas... There are a million and one reasons to scarpbook and journal(add your own little diary of the pic etc...) I found that DD slept loads more than I expected and seens as she wa my first I had quiet alot of spare time and so started to scrapbook her. It spiralled from there and found wonderful craft sites to buy bits from, I use paperarts.co.uk alot as they have fab paper and kits. Maybe a beginner kit or mini book would be ideal to see if you like it? I can upload some pics of DD's book if you want to see what I did and get some ideas. I too have a preg book to fill in as I didn't with DD and was sad when I realised I could've put all these things down in a proper book for her rather than the free pampers diary you get in your bounty pack! And seens as this prob will be my last bubba want to make the most of it! I also did a scrapbook of my sisters children for christmas and she loved it, in fact it was the first time I had ever seen her cry! I knew she had been envious of DD's and she isn't arty inclined or has the time (she has three under 4yrs! and does the open uni) so I set about putting her babies in an album for her. I think it makes nice little thankyous to grandparents too, I did a scan pictures for MIL to keep and she loved them.

Gone totally off on a random tangent now, sorry for waffling!

Goodness Hellkat - I am keeping all my fingers etc. crossed for you. Try to rest as much as possible.

Pol, I agree I would have thought the school would phone with a head injury? And have an accident book that it should be recorded in - I thought they had to do that. It sounds as though this concrete slab should be looked into as well...

We also went out for a meal last night, just me and DH - I had a similar reaction to yours Lysettes, I think too much rich food, although mine was in the middle of the night - violent stomach ache and cramps (was afraid it might be contractions until the wind started (sorry, maybe too much information!!!!). I've never been so pleased to fart!!!!!!

liquidclocks · 25/06/2006 18:41

Wow HK, so pleased you're okand things are halted for now - keep your feet up! It was scary enough thinking I might go into labour, can't imagine how you felt knowing it had actually begun, phew!

Welcome petrified - I think I might have had that nickname first time round!

Had horrid migraine today, subsided a bit now so can sit up (obviously) but so typical - day before a really important meeting at work! grrr. Think I might put me and baby first for a change and take the day off to recuperate

Liquid, definitely take the day off. Migraines are so vile that you need at least 2-3 days to recover I always reckon. And you'll need to sleep if you can. Your body is telling you something.... Xxx
