Cori, poor you {hugs} sounds awful! I find eating fruit esp the dried apricots helps a lot - as does forcing down the obligatory bowl of muesli...
Drippingly sweaty here and getting really fed up of being at work - only have till next Fri but EVERYONE wants a meeting with me!
LOL at the drying off mrsmaddyd!

Still wearing my usual bras although my cup is running over a bit they're the most comfy still. Do I wait until 38wks to know my size for maternity ones? Look at the size of the nork cups and get v afraid as can't imagine getting that size, was only a B to start with and am prob a C-D. E and up gives me the collywobbles - esp as I only have one breast due to previous operations I will be so lop sided!?

Feeling so huge - caught sight of myself in a shop window and was quite shocked!

Hugs to all suffering hot ladies

liquidclocks · 20/07/2006 19:00

Bella I'm so jealous - I wish I had time for three baths a day, and I didn't feel like such a whale getting in and out!

Compo - I'm sure I've read somewhere that you shouldn't put new carpet made from artificial stuff in a babies room because of all the fibres - we did put (wool) carpet down about 6 wks before DS came along and it was awful with all the fluff - had to hoover every day for weeks!

Had a short reprieve from the heat this morning while it was raining - even dared to put jeans on! Over by lunch though and back to shorts - looks like this heatwave isn't so much of a 'wave' and more of a full length storm

liquidclocks · 20/07/2006 19:03

Woodelf - I don't know what advice the others will give re bras but personally I spent about £50 last time at around 36 wks and it was a complete waste of money! My boobs got loads bigger afterwards and didn't fit when my milk came in and my back shrunk as the pressure on my ribs from inside had gone. This time - 2 cheap maternity bras from asda and will save big money once boobs have regulated to some sort of constant size!

mabel1973 · 20/07/2006 19:34

Angeliz - that is mad about your taking the baby to hospital - as you say, defeats the object!
Cori - I am suffering too, seem to have alternative bouts of constipation and then the runs - I am sure it's the iron tablets - will try and get myself to a health food shop and get some of that Spatone (?), I can't carry on like this.
Saw MIL this evening - she is determined to come down and clean, she mentioned my kitchen cupboards and the windows - which suits me - nothing incriminating there
I would love to keep cool in the bath, but when I had a bath last week I got stuck because my back seizes if I lie like that for too long and I felt like a beached whale, unable to shout DH for help as DS had just gone to bed and his room is next to the bathroom - think i'll stick to showers!

mabel1973 · 20/07/2006 19:36

oh just another thought - I'm sure we talked about this before, but woodelf I bought an Elle Macpherson feeding bra last time, which was brilliant, in fact I've worn it throughout this pregnancy as well, it was money well spent.
I also bought 2 mothercare bra's but they were awful.

liquidclocks · 20/07/2006 21:09

two of my first bras were ellemacpherson too and they were lovely - just didn't fit after 4 wks of wearing them

Marls001 · 20/07/2006 23:29

Have not posted for a while and have missed y'all ... trying to switch from PC to Mac is NOT as easy as the Mac commercials say ...

Cori, you could go as Agnes Gooch from Mame! She's the one who always called Mame "Mrs. Burnside." She & Mame sang "Gooch's Song ", in which Mame encouraged her to LIVE! (Agnes "lived" a bit too much & that's how she became pg.) Agnes is the reason Mame starts her "home for unwed mothers," mortifying her son. All you'd have to put on is a pair of those pointy 50s glasses or other nerdy glasses.

Okay, isn't there somewhere y'all could rent an A/C unit, just for your bedrooms? I think I looked it up out of curiosity and it was 40 pounds per week. Surely that's worth it, at least to consider for next year? The US is going through a heat wave. It has been highs in the 100sF, up to 41C ... but in our house it's always a comfortable 23F, and I hardly go outdoors except in the mnorning. We had a power outage here for 3.5 hours on Monday, which reduced me to a lethargic cranky mess within 1 hour and I spent the other 2.5 on the couch before power was restored. The temp inside only reached 27C, but those few degrees made a huge difference and really shook me up. I think I'm either rightfully incredulous as to why y'all wouldn't give your right arm for some A/C, however you can get it - or I'm just super-spoiled and weak. Probably the latter.

Marls001 · 20/07/2006 23:31

Oops ... 23F; I meant 23C ...

Bella23 · 21/07/2006 07:59

Morning ladies

Well off for my scan this morning to see if my placenta has moved - fingers crossed. Excited that we get another peak at the little one.

Marls - we in the UK just don't really do the heat. I have an air con unit which I acquired when my old office closed which has been a godsend but in the news apparently there has been talk of power shortages due to increase use of air con units. Honestly this country grounds to a halt as soon as we get any extreme temps!!

Right off for brekkie........

liquidclocks · 21/07/2006 09:05

Marls - it's me that needs to dress up! Thanks for the idea, I'd a feeling someone arty might know! Also we brits don't use air con like we don't own snow chains - psychologically we feel you just shouldn't have to! We're supposed to have this lovely maritime climate.... I live 2 miles from the coast so we at least have a gentle breeze in the evenings.

Bella - good luck with your scan, will keep fingers crossed for you.

Has anyone tried the kneeling on all fours thing to turn a baby? I've tried to but can't hold that weird position for 15 mins, especially with DS running around - he thinks it's really funny, tries to copy me and shouts 'ewo!' through his legs, at which point I start laughing and give up

poppinda · 21/07/2006 10:42

Hi! Am 32 weeks and was hoping to get some info from those of you who have kids already...

Because of a fused spine I can't have an epidural or waterbirth. The consultant has said that I can have gas/air and pethidine, which I haven't heard great things about. Has anyone here had pethidine before? Plus, can anyone recommend any alternative pain-relief treatments that helped them? Cheers

Angeliz · 21/07/2006 10:49

poppinda, i had both my girls with just gas and air. I don't know quite how effective it was (or if it was just psychological) but it was o.k.
The first few minutes make you giggle as if you're drunk but then it wears off and it just gets you through the contractions.

Both times i've asked for pethidine when i'm in transition and fortunately had them quick so didn't need it.

Hope this helps.

poppinda · 21/07/2006 10:51

Thanks angeliz, my mum had speedy deliveries with both my sister and I, so I'm hoping it runs in the family. Fingers crossed!

Bella23 · 21/07/2006 12:55

Well back from my scan and yet another internal scan - I swear I must have had about 8 so far in this pregnancy!
Basically he was 99% sure that the placenta had moved up but couldn't quite see the end bit as the baby's head was in the way. He basically was pressing down on me trying to move the baby which was very painful which didn't work so did an internal scan whilst still pressing and still no joy so have to go back in 2 weeks.
Positive is that we get to see the baby each time and they measure the fluid and take all measurement again so at least its reasurrance.
I bet I have to have another internal scan in 2 weeks!!.............I suppose it is just preparing me for the indignity of childbirth!!

Coriander73 · 21/07/2006 13:16

Poppinda, I had pethidine last time & it sent me to sleep for 3 hours...so I suppose it worked! I think every individual is different & yes some others may react badly or not, it's like all pain relief everyone has a story to tell! If however you can only have G & A & / or pethidine, well you may want to consider it. All depends on how you are coping at the time I guess.....

liquidclocks · 21/07/2006 13:22

Bella - how annoying, but at least you get to see LO again in a few weeks!

Poppinda - I used gas and air for about 2 hrs while I was having 'normal' contractions and found it very helpful. The trick to it is start breathing as soon as you feel it start rather than waiting for the pain because it takes about the same amount of time to kick in as it takes to get to the peak of the contraction.

I've heard pethidine is good from friends but you can't have it after transition because it can make the baby sleepy.

I also used a tens in early labour and found it OK but not enough - that's why I moved on to gas and air!

I know you probably don't want to hear this but once labour starts, you lose concepts of time really and you just get totally focussed on what's going on - just keep reminding yourself that at the end you'll be holding your precious little baby - that'll be enough to help motivate you and keep you going through the pain. And of course, once it's over - you'll forget anyway!

poppinda · 21/07/2006 14:58

Thanks all, it's good to hear these things from people who who've done it before. :-)

Marls001 · 21/07/2006 17:42

Poppinda - I found listening to music helped me a great deal ... bring a variety since you won't know what you'll be in the mood for when contractions get heavy.

Oops - Liquid - sorry for confusion! Glad you liked the idea.

You're so right that one loses track of time during labor. I did, and must say I'm grateful; it helped to have it all blend together rather than watching the clock.

Anyone else making lists ... what has to get done, what'll just have to wait? Mom has made her flight reservations for Sept 1; they may induce me around Sept 4 if labor doesn't come on its own ... rather jealous of those of you due late Sept.; you have so much more time to get things done!!

To all, apologies if I offended in any way re; A/C ... I grew up in the South and just have never been without it, so has been hard to imagine not having it when pg (until the power failure).

pol26 · 22/07/2006 10:53

Hey all....

Another hot one and NO rain, as promised by several weather men! GRR!!!

DD was ill yesterday- I think the affects of her MMR, extremley teary, had a temp and just wanted to laze on me all day or couldn't bear if I was out of her sight. Last night was fun too- with me waking every hour because it was so hot and DD crying as she felt ill, neither of us got any sleep. At 5:30am took her some juice in her cot and tried my hardest to get her back to sleep- she did for 40 mins, but by the time i'd dropped off she was awake. She then came into our bed and laid down watching ceebiebies.. When DP woke he went to take her down to screams of 'no mummy!' so then I was heart broken but too knackered to want to have her hot body on me any more. Just trying to get her to drink and giving her medicine to try and control her temp. Overall she's not 'really really' ill but not her usual self.

Also feeling like my 'what not' is being split in two. I have been really hurting now along with my back when I walk and feeling as if my whole pubic bone is breaking into two like a walnut shell. Anyone else having this? Or is it just me who feels like my body is falling apart?

mandaz · 22/07/2006 12:40

We had really loud thunder storms all night last night but it hasn't made the slightest bit of difference, it's still really sticky and I still feel like I'm melting!

I was wondering if any of you with children can offer any advise on where to put the child trust voucher you get from the government once LO arrives. I've looked at a few leaflets but I'm not sure which is best. I was thinking of putting it in at Natwest as they offer a voucher pack if you do. Does anyone know if it's worth it?

P.S I'm sure you already know but there's a sale on at Next, both in the stores and online

muminaquandary · 22/07/2006 12:47

pol lots of sympathy for your pain in pubic bone, have you seen physio? make sure you call mw and tell her pain is getting really bad, as she can also advise you re painkillers

recently mine was really bad & I got some ice blocks out of the freexer and strapped them round and underneath the bone, wherever i could fit them really. Any ice / gel packs / frozen peas should do the trick. Otherwise, I have found that sleeping propped up rather than lying on one side can help as reduces the pressure

HTH

homemama · 22/07/2006 12:49

Bella, glad all looks well although it's a pain it must be nice to see lo again.

Marls, I don't thik anyone would take offense at the a/c comment. It's just that in all seriousness we, in Britain, are unlikely to see regular temps like this of between 30-35C for another 20years! I read something the other day which said the last time we had sustained 30degree+ temps was 1976 so that sort of explains why we don't bother installig a/c at home. I couldn't do without it in the car though, I have to say.

It's just started to pour ad thunder here! Hurrahhhh!!!!!!

homemama · 22/07/2006 12:56

Pol, sorry to hear you're in such pain. Hope it eases soon. Last time my SPD went with about 7 or 8wks to go so hopefully it will for you too.

Anyone else getting the 'red hot twisting poker up your fanny feeling yet'? (ie baby burrowing) I'm hoping this meas he/she has turned! (Marls, by fanny I mean girl bits not your bum as it means in US)

appyday · 22/07/2006 12:59

Hi to everyone, well it finally rained, but more like a little trickle so most dissappointing though it is very black out and thundering on and off.
Had night off from DD AGAIN last night so went out for meal and couple of drinks. Dressed up as nice as poss, obviously am no vamp ATM, but presentable, and DH went and got drunk. Got home, 5 mins of passion then hour and half groaning with head down toilet. What a waste of a night, managed to be sympathetic though I could've cried.
Pol-sympathy for your pain, I'm not that bad but if I sit too long I have to walk like a Geisha when I stand up as the tendons in my groin feel like they will snap, and get some nasty grating noises down there.
Clairemow we live in Swindon but we do get about a bit on days out.Any good places near you, apart from Bristol zoo which is already a firm favourite.

pol26 · 22/07/2006 14:27

We have had a tiny tiny tiny bit of rain and it seems a little and I mean little cooler here- ie. I'm not pouring with sweat and feeling quiet so sticky...!

Walked into town and wished I hadn't bothered as now my back and bits are hurting... paracetomol is bloomin' useless too. But put DD to bed and now sitting on laptop and watching Rosemary and Thyme... sad but enjoyable for a preg woman

Seeing the mw on wednesday so will talk to her about my aches and pains then...

That 'red hot poker' feeling tends to being my bottom... rather like labour last time round... and when it starts I get scared... I have had a scratchy feeling like little poking fingers wriggling down there but not really painful, it just feels strange.

Good luck with all the storms on the way- lets all hope that it does come and it cools down!
