MIAQ, you would be mad to get a dog at the same time, I'm worrying about remembering to feed ds's fish when lo arrives let alone walking and feeding and grooming and caring for a dog. And with ds I went a bit hygiene mad for the 1st few months, think I'd be steralising the dog!

muminaquandary · 16/07/2006 14:29

clvemj, take your point, but this is my 2nd baby so maybe I will be less hygiene mad, BUT I will not be v mobile as likely to have a c/section. My mum is coming to help but does not know the first thing about dogs. This one is already toilet trained & has had first set of jabs, but nothing more than that. Otherwise, we live in a semi-rural location & part of my routine with no 1 was to go for a lot of walks .... how much grooming do they need? (once pw?) maybe I should get a book on it to scare myself off the idea .... just so sad at the thought of it being left wiht the RSPCA ...

mabel1973 · 16/07/2006 16:19

Muminaq. have to say I agree with Calve - I get annoyed with the cats asking for food twice a day and they pretty much look after themselves compared to a dog and I believe Springers are notoriously hyper.
It is not a nice prospect to think of it going to RSPCA, even though you could guarantee it would end up in a good home (they are V. V. strict about re-homing). Do you or your parents have any friends that could re-home it, or maybe if your parents stuck it out for a few more months and you took it on when the babies a bit older?

liquidclocks · 16/07/2006 22:42

MIAQ - my brother and partner got a springer puppy in April too - she's gorgeous but she is a handful. Springers are hyper if they don't get enough excercise which for theirs is 2 medium walks a day (about 2/3 miles) or a short walk (1/2 miles) and a BIG one (at least 5) - personally I'd struggle with that but if you think you could cope... My mum and dad got their dog (a welsh springer - even madder than the english ones!) 6 months before they had my older brother and found it worked well as she was already trained and part of the 'pack'. You could also try explaining the situation to the RSPCA who might be able to find a short term foster home for a bit while you get back on your feet after the section or you can also google 'the cinnamon trust' who do dog fostering. Hope this is of help!

Also, re your friends - I hope all's ok but trust your instinct, I'm a strong believer in gut feelings about our own children's safety and better safe than sorry.

muminaquandary · 17/07/2006 10:20

Well I have forwarded links on the cinnamon trust and a couple of other rehoming refuges, to DH in the office, with the suggestion of temporary fostering until I got back on my feet.

I am fit and active but currently all exercise is done by bike, with DS in the trailer, for nursery pick up and drop offs. However I would need to revert to walking for the dog's sake, and that would be a big extra chunk of time in my routine. BUT, I was planning on being a SAHM until no 2 is at school, so when I am back on my feet I will have the time.....however, DH thinks I am mad to even contemplate it, as I would like to do some more studying at home, and he works really long hours so I don't get a lot of time to myself .... putting it on the back burner for the moment until we see how things proceed with PIL's (PS want to make it clear this is not my parents, who are a lot more sensible!!)

liquid - trusting your instincts is a VERY important lesson to learn ... there is no point trying to force a friendship, either ... not everyone is going to be your cup of tea & frankly it did mean I spent a few afternoons on my own with DS rather than go to htings where I knew they would be, but I think we have to protect ourselves and our children to the best of our abilities (without getting completely paranoid!!)

anyway sorry long post

homemama · 17/07/2006 11:47

Hi everyone,
Well done with all the potty training. You've all got me feeling a bit guilty about putting it off but as DS is only 19mths, I'm hoping we have plenty of time.

Just saw the mw and baby is still in breech position so getting a little worried. I know there's time for baby to turn but I'm really scared at the thought of needing a c-section.

Waxing is def. the way to go! I could never go back to shaving as I'm so hairy. If I shaved in the morning I'd have stubble by the evening. Yuck!

Mabel, at your mw! Hope your DH is better soon!

Re August babies; It does make a difference when they start in Reception as the summer babies seem so young and often find the first term very difficult to cope with. However, it evens itself out within a couple of years and by the time they get to the juniors you can rarely tell the difference. Some children are more ready than others and some schools/LEAs are more accomodating than others. I you have a late summer baby, I would advise you to judge it on your own child's development and then check out local policy.

Apparently, it's going to be 32 degrees here tomorrow. I really don't think I can cope with it this hot. I was pg with DS in summer 04 and although I remember it was hot, I don't remember it being this hot.

compo · 17/07/2006 12:04

Afternoon girls Homemama - I'm hating the heat too, feel bad for ds as I don't want to go out in it. Was sick this morning after breakfast. Really not enjoying this pregnancy at all - counting down the weeks now (about 8 hopefully!!). I was in the early pregnancy stage in the summer of 2003 and boy, was it hot!! Definitely made the morning sickness worse and I was working full time then. So glad not working much at the moment.

HOT HOT HOT....

HM, I was pg with DD the summer of 2004 & yes, it's all coming back now...it wasn't this hot was it?!!Sitting at my desk at work with the aircon blasting & my own little desk fan on. My feet have swollen up & I've reluctantly had to remove my wedding ring....

Roll on September LO!

HellKat · 17/07/2006 13:42

URGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH TOO BLOOMIN' HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry all needed to rant! I have'nt been posting much as I seem to be in a daze with lack of sleep. I'm managing around 2/3 hrs a night (if I'm lucky) then crashing for an hour in the afternoons. I'm getting through a huge bag of ice cubes every two days (only thing that cools me down). Please let it get cooler!!!!!!

Hope everyone's well.

pol26 · 17/07/2006 14:17

Hey ladies...!

How hot is it today??? it's 33 here and they say it will be the same tomorrow. I just can't manage it. I didn't sleep well last night because it was so hot and I was the most swollen I have ever been... my toes looked like little chipolatas!

Roll on 9 weeks time (I am 31 weeks today) when hopefully bubba will be making an arrival some where round there.

Will see the mw next week and going without DD for the first time- hopefully more relaxing! As it's DP's last week at work as he is a teacher! Bad news is he will be going back to work when i'm 38/39 weeks- prob when I need him most!!!

And yes, I too was preg through summer 2004 and it was hot then too... but i'm sure it's hotter now! Spending my wholem time eating ribenna lollies bogof in tesco's!

mabel1973 · 17/07/2006 16:46

I have a high tolerance for heat but this is mad - It has really beaten me ! I just can't cope - I was in tears last night, as my mum had had DS for the day and I had loads I wanted to get done and didn't do most of it because of the heat. Our lawn is all yellow and crusty like walking on straw!
DH has been signed off by the doctor all ths week, nice to have the extra help with DS, but what is it about DH's that they just seem to make more housework / clutter / washing up when they are around?? or is it just mine?
Anyway - hope everyone's coping ok and not too swollen.

mabel1973 · 17/07/2006 18:25

Have just discovered in the cupboard the Magicool that I bought for my labour bag last time round - bliss - if you haven't got any ladies - get some!

dreamydowler · 17/07/2006 19:18

hi all the heat is killing me my feet are like balloons this magicool sound good is it a spray

pol26 · 17/07/2006 19:27

Ahhh ... you have brought back reasons why DP is better off at work- all the extra crap he leaves lying around and the path of disruption he leaves behind him...

mabel1973 · 17/07/2006 20:50

Magicool - yes it is a spray, from boots etc, and prob most supermarkets as well.

liquidclocks · 17/07/2006 20:55

I am SO of al of you due at the beginning of September! - I've yet to hit week thirty I can't wish it away though - too much to do, too little time.

Anyone else been given a maternity belt? I con't remeber how to put it on - straight bit at top or straight bit a bottom? (my next research project is about 'how to improve patient adherence by improving information retention'- and no, I haven't just made that up!)

missdynamite · 17/07/2006 22:41

Hi my name is zoe and i am also due in 31 weeks and to be honest it cant come quick enough my back!!!!! hurts like hell, i have 2 belts one from e bay one from the hospital i never suffered like this the first time i have seen 4d evidence that its a boy this time so maybe thats just men for ya trouble before there even born

missdynamite · 17/07/2006 22:44

oops i mean i am 31 weeks pregnant to be honest i am the husband typing who got zoe in this condition in the first place !

ezridax · 17/07/2006 23:04

hey all nice to know all is well, and that it's not just my concern about being a bit hairy 'down there'.
Isn't it strange the things that are foremost in our minds.

Don't want to be a weirdo but i was watching daytime tv recently and they said it's possible to catch
sti 's when getting waxed cause they use the same pot of wax from one client to another.
i've considered having it done but this comment just scared me completely.

It was a US show so maybe over here they do it different? Anyone got any comments.

Tomorrow I'm going to buy my semi expensive handbag that i promised myself before the baby comes .

There was a special offer on in boots with magicool, buy 2 get 1 free.

HellKat · 18/07/2006 08:43

Morning all.
Phewwwwwwww. Yucky yucky heat!
Whoever mentioned about taking a frozen hot water bottle to bed (Cori was it you?), you're a lifesaver!!!!! Mwahhhh

Bella23 · 18/07/2006 10:01

OMG - How hot is it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rediculous!
I slept so badly last night I ended up downstairs on the sofa as it was slightly cooler and helped the backache I have started to get.
Its too damn hot!
Feel like a hermit, feel like I can't go outside in case I perish in the heat!
Sorry rant over but it really is miserable.

Ezridax - was it the Tyra Banks show you saw that on about the wax?
If you pick a reputable beauty place then they use individual wax strips that they melt so no cross contamination - you can always phone up and ask before you make an appointment.

puppy · 18/07/2006 10:17

Morning all

Liquid I have a maternity belt for spd I have been wearing it with the curved side at the bottom.

oo magicool I have a can of that somewhere must find it out, its good

Welcome missdynamite , i am also 31 weeks

I don't blame you keeping your ds off school, I am feeling for my mindees, its their sports day tomorrow, their mum and I feel that it would be ridiculous if it goes ahead, I feel sports day should be earlier in the year when its cooler. I am going to meet them with a frozen bottle of juice for them slush puppie consistency.

miaq I think its a good idea to get the puppy fostered first give your self time to settle into a routine, we got one of our dogs when ds was 18month and it was quite hard work with training and cleaning ds toys that she got hold of etc..

Well I am spending the day with a fan on me in my nightie till school run time, DS can play in the house today where its cooler, he was out in it plenty yesterday so he can have a break, he is very fair like me and also gets overheated easily.

Midwife appt went well, I have had to make another physio appt as the spd is worsening and I could hardly get upstairs on sunday, I find my belt helps the back ache but not the spd .

Hope you are all drinking plenty of water, my midwife said that 40 ladies have been admitted to the antenatal ward due to dehydration and uti's in the last week here.

Coriander73 · 18/07/2006 11:28

OMG...I've had enough today...& it's only 11.15am!!!! I didn't go to bed until 1am last night as there was no point.....it was more than 30 degrees upstairs & I just figured that I'd lay & toss & turn etc. At 11.10pm last night I become a woman possesed & decided that the floors needing hoovering & mopping clean!!! I was ab.shattered but I just couldn't rest until it was done....DH just sighed & went off to play on his computer....DD then woke at 3 & then again at 5 (cutting a molar), I wasn't sleepng well at all anyhow at this point & then once I did fall asleep missed the alarm & woke at 8 when I should have been in the car to work!!!

Having constant arguements with the girls in the office who want the aircon OFF & windows open & keep telling me it's so so cold in the office...I'm like TOUCH THE BUTTON AT YOUR PERIL....honestly I've no patience for anyone today at all & just feel really teary but that's the lack of sleep & the tideous quarterly report I have to do for my boss.....

AARGGGHHHHHHH....2 weeks & 3 days....then I'm outta here!!!

Appyday....first nappy free day at nursery yday & bingo..NO accidents!!!!!! Pooing..hmm different matter, went over to drop something off for a friend after picking her up yday & she pooed on their rug (friend does have DD same age & was most understanding) I could have died!!!! Doesn't seem to want to poo on the potty for some reason & keeps it in all day until either she goes in her nighttime nappy or like yday on the floor.....what do I do?? DH has her today & he just rang to say she sneaked off telling him "Goodbye daddy"....only for him to discover her in the study (soon to become her new room) She had gotten hold of her shampoo & covered half her head in it!!!!!!!!

homemama · 18/07/2006 13:58

I promise never to complain about the British weather again if it will just cool down! DS is desperate to go out but there's no way either of us could cope. Aghhhhhh!

Can I complain about an embarrassing problem?

My breasts are so huge that I've developed quite a nasty sweat rash underneath them. As well as showering each morning, I'm sponging down twice more and making sure I dry thoroughly but nothing is working. I've also tried sudocreme and wearing no bra (difficult considering how big I am and no real benefit) I think they need to be lifted more but maternity bras don't really do that. Any ideas?

Puppy, sorry your spd is getting worse. This heat must be making it feel worse.

Cori, you're not nesting yet, are you?

compo · 18/07/2006 13:59

Cori - poor you! Can't believe people would want to turn the air con off in this weather! It's forecast rain on Thursday so hopefully that will bring some relief to us all. The only thing I keep consoling myself with is at least we don't have to go through labour in this heat - the hospitals must be hideously overheated just now!
