Looks like we need another new thread Blush- we've been rather busy!

Up to date (ish) Stats thread here:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/a1694946-September-2013-STATS-THREAD

As previously- Welcome newbies! If anyone wants to join the Facebook group (better for sharing documents and pictures- especially picture of gorgeous babies), please message myself or jennimoo with your real life name and email address and we can add you to the group!

Bring on the irritating texts from family members and best friends to find out whether you've had your babies or not (like you wouldn't tell them.....), more weird and disgusting labour symptoms, more internal examinations than you can shake a stick at, and LOTS OF BABIES!

Could be the last one you get to enjoy in peace for a while!

RunningBear78 · 14/09/2013 18:12

He's here!!!!! Perfect home birth, no issues, no stitches just a graze! 10 hours start to finish. Hayden George born 2.33, 8lb exactly. Has fed well, done a huge poo on me now snoozing on the sofa. So amazing, being at home was fab.

badguider · 14/09/2013 18:15

Yay Grin

badguider · 14/09/2013 18:16

Well done you!

HettySunshine · 14/09/2013 18:29

Fantastic news! Congratulations x x

SGJ · 14/09/2013 19:01

Congratulations to the Bear family! What an excellent birth story, well done you! And welcome to tiny Hayden x

CheeseStrawCraving · 14/09/2013 19:24

Congrats! Sounds perfect Flowers

Can somebody please tell me that this is normal... W is 3 weeks old today and as had an entire day of screaming, he's inconsolable unless I'm cuddling him... He fusses between feeds for more then isn't interested when I offer him boob. Doesn't need nappy change, no obvious problems and v out of character. Is this just a growth spurt? Has anybody else experienced this?

And on another note, about half way through feeds my nipples become very itchy and one of them is a little red around the edge. Not massively but enough that I noticed it yesterday morning. Is this thrush or am I just panicking? Bub has no obvious symptoms and s feeding fine... Are there degrees of seriousness to thrush?

Are these two things connected? Help please, feeling tired and a little miserable today Sad

PurplePoppySeed · 14/09/2013 20:57

Congratulations Bear, great to hear of another good home birth xx

Joskar im now feeling your pain - 2 days of constant false labour is starting to get me down.

Right I'm off to become a sex pest to DH!

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 14/09/2013 21:08

Well done the bears! Quick, too!

Cheese I don't have any strong ideas what's up, but for boobs just keep feeding and massage with warm flannel if you feel any hot patches developing. If he's fussing, latch can go a bit wrong and he may not be draining the ducts evenly.

kipsonline · 14/09/2013 21:46

Well done bear that's a lovely birth story!
Cheese, 3 weeks is prime territory for major growth spurt and it would start by him demanding milk more often to stimulate your supply, so at first he may be unsettled as he waits for this to catch up...Fraser was milk crazed for 5 days before settling back down to 3 hourly .. Good luck!

kipsonline · 14/09/2013 21:47

Joskar how was the wedding?!?

CheeseStrawCraving · 14/09/2013 21:48

Thanks ladies, will plod on... 5 days kips?! 1 day has been bloody hard so far!

fl0b0t · 14/09/2013 22:34

rake "This morning there's so much milk I'm dripping from one side while she suckles the other. Nice!"
I have the same, so expressing from one and the other is dripping! Worried I'm wasting it as I'm trying to collect everything I express!

Things are so up and down here, was sobbing at lunch time over him being too drowsy to feed, then my brother and wife came from champagne and takeaway and we had a ball :) Feed was quick too and he was more alert! So up and down

Well done bear!

cheese might be worth getting looked at quickly for thrush. My mw thought DD might have it so we went to the GP. Turned out she didn't but it took 10 mins, GP was fine about it and it put my mind at rest. Can cause fussiness and put baby off feeding because painful to suck for them.

If it's a growth spurt you could try expressing to boost supply?

Things ok here, beginning to adjust to lack of sleep I think.only real problem is that DD won't take a bottle from DH. I'vebeen expressing so he can do a evening feed, and she's fine with a bottle when i'vetried but for him she grunts and makes choking sounds and basically spits it all out. Any ideas? Have tried avent and Medela bottles...

CheeseStrawCraving · 15/09/2013 08:04

Thanks Mooster, will make an appt in the morning with GP.

Maybe it's not the bottle, maybe it's the smell of mummy that's comforting when she feeds from a bottle? Sounds silly but could DH try to wear a blanket or something that smells of you when he feeds her? Worth a try.

TripleRock · 15/09/2013 11:20

Can anyone tell me what waters smell like?

I can smell something familiar, not urine, can't put my finger on it. Is it an old dried up bm sort of smell? Sweet, musty, smells like a baby?

PurplePoppySeed · 15/09/2013 11:57

Oh Triple I'm having the same worry now! Woke up thinking they'd gone - PJs wet halfway down my thighs + plug lost last night, went to the loo and trickling continued, so I thought, this is it. Put a pad on and it seems to have stopped now, no contractions, not even all the false stuff I had yesterday!

/off to smell my PJ's (yuk)

RunningBear78 · 15/09/2013 12:58

Oh other odd thing about my labour; had no show and we aren't sure when my waters went, were intact at both internals !

sleepy baby issues here. Feeds perfectly for the midwives but won't stay on the boob for more than two sucks on our own. Can do a good latch, but them either wriggles off or falls asleep. V stressful ...Sad

jennimoo · 15/09/2013 13:00

Have you tried stroking under the ear along jawline and rubbing palms? Also both stripping off and skin to skin can help. It's normal for them to be sleepy at first though, so try not to worry.

flipflump · 15/09/2013 13:17

Triple, mine smelt sweet but not that pleasant. A strange, musty smell.

Fozziebearmum2be · 15/09/2013 15:07

I need a rant... Dd and dm are driving me mad....! I'm not even due for another 10 days and the calls have already started, in fact they started about a week ago, driving me bonkers. My parents are divorced so Im getting two lots of calls which consist of 'are you okay?' In a stressed voice...

And..

'Is baby Fozziebear still in?' Well actually it was born two weeks ago, but I just forgot to tell you... Angry

I've told them that dh will tell them when they need to know anything in actual fact we might turn our phones off until baby is here

They seem to expect me to have my mobile on me at all times and answer on the first ring, I always ring them back but with increasing calls/txts which are for no reason at all (and they pretend are for a purpose) I'm tempted to start ignoring them... Is this mean?

andadietcoke · 15/09/2013 16:33

fozzie ring them from your DP's phone late at night - that kept me entertained no end when my mum was driving me insane!

fl0b0t · 15/09/2013 16:38

Runningbear- this is exactly what we have been (are going through) (although only fed once or twice well for midwives to see)

read here?? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/breast_and_bottle_feeding/1851035-3-day-old-want-to-BF?pg=2

We tried all the tricks in the book, got help from everyone and it's slowly coming together (probably).
Tickling feet (if you have three hands whilst doing all the holds properly etc), blowing on face, strip off, skin 2 skin..... none of this seemed to work. We tried different positions, including lying down belly to belly, doing a nappy change first etc. If you can stay in for more help, get it! VEry worthwhile. Although he's stil not feeding from the breast, his improvement is massive.

We are very pleased (in hindsight with the route we took) because two days ago he was barely awake for an hour a day and feeds were impossible 2 hour affairs even with a bottle. He's now awake for feeds and almost waking up beforehand which is good.

In other news, trying really hard not to be patronised by well-meaning friend. She was totally unable to feed at the breast but expressed like a mad cow (!) and used to donate leftover milk to premmie babies etc. She is telling me that it's impossible for my baby to starve so not to worry, but after 3 days when your baby can't even wake up, it's terrifying and you need to do what you need to do for your mental state and the health of your baby, with jaundice looming, to ensure that they are ok and you are ok!

Diet coke-Im soooooo tempted to do that! Smile

WaggyBlueElf · 15/09/2013 18:25

Fl0 and RunningBear I'm having exactly the same problem. My boy was born on wed (not had chance to come on here to say before - he's been keeping me rather busy!) and he's barely taking anything from the breast at all. I lost quite a bit of blood during the delivery which one MW said could have prevented me producing much at first - I had virtually nothing until day 2. He latches on beautifully, has a couple of sucks then either stops and falls asleep or pulls away to chew his hand instead Hmm We've had to be readmitted to hospital because he'd lost so much weight. I'm now expressing plenty for him, which he's eating, but he still won't take it straight from me. What did you find actually worked then Fl0? We should be seeing a breastfeeding cllr tomorrow but any advice in the meantime much appreciated.

In other news, he's totally gorgeous and DP and I are totally besotted.

Congratulations to everyone else who's had theirs, and good luck to those still waiting.
