Looks like we need another new thread Blush- we've been rather busy!

Up to date (ish) Stats thread here:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/a1694946-September-2013-STATS-THREAD

As previously- Welcome newbies! If anyone wants to join the Facebook group (better for sharing documents and pictures- especially picture of gorgeous babies), please message myself or jennimoo with your real life name and email address and we can add you to the group!

Bring on the irritating texts from family members and best friends to find out whether you've had your babies or not (like you wouldn't tell them.....), more weird and disgusting labour symptoms, more internal examinations than you can shake a stick at, and LOTS OF BABIES!

My parents have taken the boys for the weekend so that I can have a baby in peace. That's the theory.... No pressure then. Absolutely nothing doing. Barely a braxton hix. Baby just doesn't feel low enough to be coming anytime soon, despite being 40+5! Have spent all afternoon traipsing round town. Have discovered that DH loves buying little girl baby clothes, that came as a surprise. Aww! Still we are making the most of a child-free weekend. Went to the cinema last night, out for lunch today and just about to go round to friends for dinner.

badguider · 07/09/2013 20:03

Guys you do NOT need to apologise at all for anything!

This was always going to be a funny thread this month with everybody at such different stages but even through the current breast obsession I can still send you my sympathies

mrspaddy · 07/09/2013 20:30

I am Shock at people getting pissed off at having to wait... Like baby is going to because your bil has arrived... Grrrrr....

Luckily I haven't had that.. But my mum hasn't registered in her brain that i am nine months pregnant and asking me to run lots of errands, carry loads of heavy washing etc. then asked am I going out tonight??? Er... No... Only place I want to go is the labour ward.

PurplePoppySeed · 07/09/2013 21:18

Ahh Rake I hope you get the natural birth you want ut completely understand why you don't want baby to share its birthday with its grandparent. It would be a bit rubbish.

I feel that I'm in this lull too, still got time to go, but seeing everyone's lovely pics, I start to feel jelous. At the same time, I had my first raspberry leaf tea today, within about 2 mins of starting it, I got severe BH! Thought it might be a coincidence, but I've had none since... Now I'm wondering if I should have it again or not - I want the baby but still scared stupid of labour!

RunningBear78 · 07/09/2013 21:25

For rake : dear mil, I understand you are excited, but at the moment I am anxious and stressed about the fact that I am now over due and am facing the possibility of not being able to have the birth I wished for, and potentially medical induction. As such, every message and phone call you make asking about the babys arrival is adding to my anxiety and is really not welcome. So please, just stop. We will let you know when the baby arrives safely. love rake.

That should do it :) feel your pain, I can't imagine having such insensitive in laws.

I did get a phone call from my mum this afternoon which started me: 'hello', mum: 'are you in labour?' apparently she had had some premonition!? Btw ...no vague signs of labour at 38+6

CheeseStrawCraving · 07/09/2013 22:40

Aah Rake Flowers feel for you, they sound awful.

BinarySolo · 08/09/2013 02:31

Rake, I can sympathise. Both my sons have been early. Ds1 was 36+4 and ds2 was 39 weeks. Both times my heart was set on a natural birth at a birth centre and it's not happen dye to being too early or needing to be induced this time when my waters broke but no contractions.

Inductions aren't too bad tho and you should still be able to have a relatively normal/natural birth. If you've got any questions about drip inductions I'm more than happy to answer them.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 08/09/2013 08:45

I'd quite happily take an induction right now. Blush Just fed up of being pregnant and all the stuff that comes with. Really need to find me some more patience.

MIL is coming over today, and will probably have words with bump about turning up promptly. She's had 4 herself, this will be the 8th GC, so she's not one for putting on any pressure on me, will just do it to make me laugh. :) I'm quite lucky when it comes to ILS. My sister, however, has already started her chain of phonecalls.

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 08/09/2013 10:26

Baby here, at home perfectly as planned. More details later

badguider · 08/09/2013 10:42

Brilliant rake - so so pleased for you! Well done!!!

MrsMangoBiscuit · 08/09/2013 11:14

Excellent! Congratulations. :)

TripleRock · 08/09/2013 11:16

Well done Rake!

kimjayne · 08/09/2013 11:18

well done rake! looking forward to hearing the details.

RunningBear78 · 08/09/2013 11:20

Congratulations rake! So pleased it all turned out as planned x

kimjayne · 08/09/2013 11:42

so who else is eith me in the over due club now then? ive sort of lost count and I cant open the spreadsheet on my phone.
Also, quick question. If you go over due and get induced, are you still allowed a water birth??

jennimoo · 08/09/2013 11:48

Kim - I think it depends how much help you have whether and you need constant monitoring. As well as what your MW / doctor says!

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 08/09/2013 11:50

Me, Kim, six days over today, and symptoms add up to a fat lot of nothing.

kimjayne · 08/09/2013 12:01

cheers jennimoo, ive just been googling it but getting very mixed answers so thought it might be best to ask on here! im really hoping I can at least try the pool for pain relief, even if I cant stay in there for the birth.
Mynameisnot - I feel very much the same as you. Im 4 days over now and like you say, no symptoms/signs as yet. Im currently sat on my gym ball whilst drinking my Raspberry Leaf tea! Come on baby leavy Sad

WaggyBlueElf · 08/09/2013 12:10

Kim I'm now 11 days over. Yes, 11. Booked for an induction on Tues - should've been wed but the hospital are already too busy that day. Doesn't bode well but never mind. I asked the midwife about whether a water birth would still be possible and she said I'll have to ask when I get there and it depends on the consultant. Aaarrrrgggghhh I just want him out now!

WaggyBlueElf · 08/09/2013 12:16

And congratulations Rake, glad you got the birth you wanted, and before tomorrow!

badguider · 08/09/2013 13:29

kim - where I gave birth they don't do induction in the MLU where the birth pools are but I think there are "baths" in some of the CLU rooms.
Not sure they're keen on you being in them for long if at all if induced due to the IV and cannula and monitoring pads. I think you need to ask your specific hospital.
Of course, you might be induced with pessary only or by breaking your waters and not need the IV drip?

fl0b0t · 08/09/2013 13:58

Poor you everyone overdue! Spend my life silently Ss and I'm a)not due for ten days and b) have spent the last 8 months telling myself baby will be late and that either way it will arrive before the end of September! And yet still every twinge elicits ^baby arrival thoughts!

Still enjoying maternity leave.... Today we watched telly, I had a long and luxurious shower and then lay about in my dressing gown reading baby and pregnancy books and painting my nails badly. Cat asleep at my feet. Bliss.

Self indulgent post alert...

Nipped in for a spot of monitoring today as baby had been a bit quiet over the last day or so. After a bit of a flurry of activity when they thought baby might suddenly be breach, I was treated to an impromptu scan which as showed not only head down, but LOA!! After baby being back to back on Friday I'm so thrilled!! Bring on the VBAC :)

Will catch up on the thread now!

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 08/09/2013 16:26

Hello, want a birth story then? Grin

so at 10ish went to bed with a stack of print outs about induction pros and cons and a red pen... Felt nice and empowered. Asked DH for a massage and he correctly surmised I needed more of the kissing and nuzzling than undoing knotted muscles. Lights out 11, lights back on 2am when a couple of contractions woke me. Called triage for the to send the on call mw.

DH then bustled around double-cleaning the kitchen and we started to fill the pool. I sat on the birthing ball and put the TENS on. Two midwives turned up, lovely both of them. Gently suggested positions now and again but mostly just sat and listened, writing all the time. I was 4cm at 4am and she did a sweep to help move things along. Got in the pool about 5 when the TENS wasn't cutting it any more.

My god the water is amazing. Do it if you possibly can! I had to get out a couple of times for the loo and the difference was phenomenal. In the pool I could just breathe as deeply as possible and that dealt with pain completely. Outside I was moaning and groaning as well and moans do nothing for pain.

8cm at about 7.40. From then on I started thinking about pushing. I asked what G&A would do for me, and they said it would do what my breathing was doing, but might slow things down by making me spaced. So I thought sod it, massive deep breaths are working let's stick with them.

Can't deny the pushing hurt but there was only an hour of it, the quickest passing hour of the whole morning, and it wasn't every cx either, sometimes I got a breather. Waters went pop with a bit of meconium about 8.30, that was a relief! Head out at 9.06 right when I would have been in the waiting room to be told about induction, ha! And the rest followed by 9.16 in three pushes I think. 1st degree tear. 3.96kg girly. Grin

Cord cut after a while of pulsing not completely finished but because it wasn't very long it was inhibiting me moving much. Got out of the pool for third stage, felt very dizzy. From then on it went a little tiny bit Pete Tong, and at 11ish I went to hosp under blue lights, had cannula, catheter, epidural and a sort of a clear out of a bit of membrane and placenta. Tear severity revised to 2nd degree and repaired. Currently on recovery bit with sensation slowly returning to my legs and gorgeous snuggly baby on my chest. Unlikely to be discharged before tomorrow so have booked the last remaining private room rather than suffer PN ward (haven't slept since 2am and anything I ate I vommed, until a couple of syrup pancakes an hour ago).

It's all good though. I had exactly the birth I wanted, then a bit of an adventure and all looked after and stitched up nicely. Now I just need to ignore the binging blood pressure machine and doze properly!!

dakomponist · 08/09/2013 16:51

Wow, Rake, that's an awesome story. Thanks for letting us know!

I am SO sick of waiting around for this baby to turn up. I've posted before how bored I am - thanks for the suggestions btw. I'm still at a loose end a great deal of the time though. I'm usually very patient, but 9 months has been a very long slow burn.
Winge over- back to watching the grass grow.
