Smitten1981 · 01/09/2013 22:31

Evening everyone, handy to see what others are packing in their hospital bags. I started mine last week but then realised I need to get more bits so have abandoned it. Baby's bag is done but mine has a way to go.

Anyway, hope you can help put my mind at rest. I'm due to have the whooping cough vaccination tomorrow and I've only just looked into it.

I'm a Bit worried now and am thinking of cancelling having seen the comments on the NHS website saying it made them ill and one implying it killed their baby!

Am I worrying over nothing. If you have had it did you get horrid side effects? Anyone not getting it?

I'm not sure what to do for the best.
Help!

claphammama · 01/09/2013 22:33

thanks wicked, thought you were the one with the list Smile I was asking. A few things I definitely forgot so good to have it again.

Caz saw the birthday cake on Facebook. So impressive! How old is your DD?

I also get occasional "vagina pain" - I'm assuming it's to do with some pressure on nerves... I used to get it occasionally in the past when I was doing a lot of yoga and would overstretch some nerves, mainly around lower back or hamstrings. I bet we all get a lot of pressure in these areas right now...

Just came back from a yummy DP's birthday dinner (+ weekly glass of wine!) to an annoying email... apparently out school does 2 inset days and proper school won't start until Thursday... sent on Sunday night... what do I do with DS now? we have no family here to help out... our school is lovely but so notorious with these things... always forgetting about working parents and assuming all mums are at home anyway. A bit fed up.

Just watching "Orange is the new Black" on Netflix. Has anyone watched it? Never seen the L word etc so now slightly fascinated with the lesbian world... but I think DP is fascinated even more Grin Grin

claphammama · 01/09/2013 22:34

and good luck with your appointment textbook!

PseudoBadger · 01/09/2013 22:37

Evening all, much better day with DS, although that was mainly because DP's friends came over in the afternoon and wore him out! Let's see what the night ahead holds, hopefully I'll not end up on his floor tonight....
Just took my BP and it's up tonight to 137/85 after an evening of sitting on the sofa doing bugger all. So ill be keeping an eye on that from now on.

PseudoBadger · 01/09/2013 22:38

We're watching Breaking Bad on Netflix Clapham and I'll think I'll try Orange next.

Natalieand · 01/09/2013 22:39

clapham its the same round here, dd pre school doesn't start till Wednesday my sisters kids don't start back at school till Thursday and my other sisters pre school doesn't even start back until the following week. It would be so much easier if there was a national finish and start date!!

Thanks for the hospital bags list I have now print screened that on my phone :-)

Shirehobbit · 01/09/2013 22:42

Smitten - had my WC jab 8 weeks ago. No illness afterwards or decreased movements.
Arm ached a bit, but no where near as badly as I'd feared. No sign I'd even had it within 48hrs.

kiwee · 01/09/2013 22:46

Thanks for the hospital bag list....really must get on with that soon!

Pseudo sending you BP lowering thoughts. Hope you're having a relaxing evening.

Starting to stress about the fact we have no boys names we agree on yet. Can't have any 'and' sound in it (or sounds to similar to surname) and preferably not start with S. The only 2 names we've come up with that neither of us have any strong objections to are Dominic and Hugo and I seem to be going off both of them! Girls names are much easier.

You've inspired me to do some baking to add to the pasta bake and bolognese that are already in the freezer....trip to supermarket for me later in the day I think.

Hope everyone's keeping well!

claphammama · 01/09/2013 22:58

I find it so stressful nat... 2 inset days I didn't know about. DS goes to holiday club during half term breaks or summer holidays but there is no holiday club on Tuesday and Wednesday... there is nothing I can arrange for these days... Sad

sorry to hear about your BP pseudo. these are still OK readings right? hope it will go down tomorrow. x

Tarlia · 01/09/2013 23:00

No, Clapham, on a Sunday night!? That is rediculous! Was he supposed to go back tomorrow? Supposing you'd not seen the email, I'm sure many wont have. We watched OitNB a few weeks back, still sulking that there isn't a series 2 yet.

Badger Not good. Do you take it in 3 try sets? Every time I take mine I take three readings, which weirdly can vary. Fingers crossed for a quiet day from DS tomorrow!

textbook good luck tomorrow.

Kiwee Timothy? Though I like both Domanic and Hugo. We find girls names much easier too, it's easier to be more out there without being too try hard. Having a name that there are always at least two others with, i try to avoid that when picking. We are having our second boy..

Smitten1981 · 01/09/2013 23:06

Thanks Shire Smile

claphammama · 01/09/2013 23:26

I expected him to go back on Tuesday chickien... the school website says the term starts on Tuesday so I assumed Monday would be an inset day, as it was with all terms / half terms. This Thursday start really throws me... I sent an email to the school rep asking when and where it was first communicated as I'm always super careful about these things because I always need to arrange childcare. Let's see what comes back... this school / class reps do it all the time. I think I'm the only mum in our class who works full time... others don't work and some work only 3 days a week or freelance. Sigh... I used to get emails from the teacher last year on Monday night telling me DS would play a certain part in the school play so I had to deliver his outfit on Thursday morning... Double sigh... no idea what to do. I have two weeks left at work and didn't want to take the p... I'm not very good at taking the p at the best of times

OITNB is great isn't it? So well filmed. you know this dark haired girl who got her into prison? she looks so familiar and I can't figure out in what I saw her before... it's torturing me!

FeministInTraining · 01/09/2013 23:26

Smitten echoing what Shire said- I had mine last week, no illness or reduced movements either.

GTbaby · 02/09/2013 00:16

Loved orange is new black! So funny. Watched it in 4 days. Lol. Currently watching sons of anarchy.
Also waiting for dexter and breaking bad season to finish so I can start watching them. I hate waiting a week for them! So would rather watch them all at end of the season.

Chick what foods are u dis/encouraged to eat? Just Curious.

Indians post partum ritual encourage -rest/no work for 5weeks.

  • not leaving ur bedroom, but this has developed into not leaving the house.
  • mil told me not to answer or go near the door (I'd catch a cold and get stiff joints)
  • keep feet warm by wearing socks
  • eating a concoction that contains butter sugar flour and various ground nuts. Very high in fat and calories.
If I think of any other weird things i remember il let u know.
  • oh no reading/tv/ needle work. As your eyes are weak.

Can't remember what else I was going to comment about ...

Flyer747 · 02/09/2013 01:57

Pseudo I hope the bp comes down. I was told to take 3 readings at the same time and go with the lowest, this was by a stroke doctor as they can vary.

Right you'll all think I'm a complete loon with my next statement (and after taking the piss a few weeks back on the other thread) however I'm having my placenta encapsulated! Basically what happens is someone takes your placenta freezes it and returns it to you within 48 hours in tablet form, you then start taking the tablets.

There has been extensive research done in the USA and findings show that people who do it have so many benefits from replacing all the lost hormones when the placenta is delivered. It helps decrease your chances of PND massively and as someone who has suffered from depression in the past I'm determined to do all in my power to ensure I try and avoid it.
It also improves milk production, so many women report feeling that they have more energy, are happier from taking them. It's £165 so we are gonna give it a whirl....
A lady at my NCT is doing it and both her and the instructor were telling us all about it on Saturday, dp and I got talking and agreed that it's something we want to do, not for most people, but I like being different Grin

Excuse the long post.

chickieno1 · 02/09/2013 03:21

clapham, gt and tarlia orange is the new black is really addictive isn't it! My dh was also a big fan but I found myself getting irritated with Jason Biggs character. The girl you re thinking of is from That 70s show. She had red hair in that. Pity have to wait another year for season 2

tarlia those are brilliant ideas for ds1. I ll have to start thinking of something. I might borrow/steal your idea of the little animals. Ds is obsessed with donkeys and elephants Confused

bridget hope you're feeling better re your dd and parenting. It must be very hard for all of you going from family of three to four. I think it is a good idea to tell her new teachers to look out for her. Hopefully it'll all go as smoothly as possible (for all of us)

Glad the birthday for your ds was good pink

Thanks clap and tarlia. I'm very happy for my sister! She really is my best friend even when she drives me mad :)

Thanks for the hospital bag list wicked

Good luck with appt tomorrow textbook

Could pain be vulval varicose veins ana?? Get it checked out anyway

ananikifo · 02/09/2013 03:27

Good luck tomorrow, textbook and I hope your BP comes down pseudo

Sorry this will be a me me me post once again but I can't sleep. I can't breathe easily bc of this cold and there is literally no position I can take where I'm breathing, not severely aching, and not in severe reflux. DH isn't used to me keeping him awake so he made this big loud fuss of going downstairs to sleep on the couch only to come back a few minutes later muttering something about how uncomfortable it was. Then he took on a reassuring tone telling me he would buy me medicine tomorrow. What does he think I'm going to take? I have been taking paracetamol and that's it. Then I lay there afraid to move or cough bc I was keeping him awake. Now I've gone downstairs.

It really pisses me off because our whole marriage it's been me losing sleep bc of his snoring and it's always me that sleeps in the couch. It all just seems really unfair.

chickieno1 · 02/09/2013 03:29

Good to hear from you flyer!

That is crazy clapham do you have any annual leave days left you could use?? So unfair of he school to not give any notice

Forgot to say before shire love Tessa and Gabriel.

pseudo hope your BP behaves itself!

Ok I'm knackered, going to try and sleep now. Can't get comfortable, get up like six times to go to loo and having crazy dreams. Then have a starfish in the middle of the bed and it has been soooo hot and humid these last few nights here. I don't want to be a moany so and so to dh so I'm doing it on here :)

Hope you ladies get some sleep.

ananikifo · 02/09/2013 03:29

chickien that's one of the things I was wondering about but I need a professional to tell me for sure.

chickieno1 · 02/09/2013 03:34

Oh no ana it's miserable when you can't take anything for cold. Do you have a spare room in the new place. Might need somewhere to send dh in the middle of the night?? Is his snoring very bad?? Maybe he might see his GP? My brother was a terrible snorer and after a lot of "persuasion" from his DW he got checked out. Long story short has sleep apnoea and now things much better on treatment. Just a consideration as it is very under diagnosed and important to treat it if there.

ananikifo · 02/09/2013 03:41

No spare room but we've ordered a sofa bed. I would love DH to get his snoring looked at but it's not a priority for him. I've also got him leaflets from the ENT clinic about these mouthpieces that are meant to be amazing and he was interested but nothing happened. Unfortunately the snorer has no idea how bad it is and how it affects everyone else, so its hard to motivate them to do anything. My dad is the same way.

chickieno1 · 02/09/2013 03:50

It is very difficult ana. Could you record it on your phone or something like that to play back to him??sofabed good idea. Had one in London apartment was good esp if dh needed sleep while I did night feeds. The thing is though YOU need sleep now!! He should be downstairs :(

OrangeBlossom2 · 02/09/2013 06:48

recording it might be a good idea if he isn't aware.
what a pain Clapham. children not back until Thursday at our school either but dates are set at the start of the year and reminders in every newsletter. are there any mums who would be willing to help out? maybe work half days? or you could just start maternity leave, but that's a weeks wages lost obviously.

smitten i was really worried about that comment on the nhs website too. only you can decide but just adding to the list of people with no side effects or problems with baby and i arranged it 3 days before a scan.

Iheartcrunchiebars · 02/09/2013 07:01

Definitely record it and make him go downstairs. If it disrupts him enough he'll be keener to go to the doctor. It's not just the snoring I hate it's the insanely heavy breathing!! I have to wear earplugs and they make my ears bleed.

Re: whooping cough jab, no side effects at all.

What snacks are you guys packing in your hospital bag? I'm thinking of fizzy sweets!
