OrangeBlossom2 · 31/08/2013 06:23

hot and sweaty here too but other than a couple of wee trips and telling snoring dh to roll over i mainly slept until 5 which isn't a ridiculous time to be up.
sorry to hear about your bad night tarlia.

i am visiting my. grandparents today and am meant to be visiting sil and nephews first but other apparently one of the boys has worms.Confused Thinking i might just drop birthday presents at the door. don't want to offend sil but also don't want worms as nhs website says you shouldn't take medicine to treat them while pregnant. have enough uncomfortableness already too.

OrangeBlossom2 · 31/08/2013 06:26

sorry for double post.
favellio my car is a three door corsa without isofix, i think i will need some. practice before baby comes then!

Umlauf · 31/08/2013 06:26

Oh no. Insomnia and dream shopping. I've managed to buy a pair of boots in my sleep somehow online. I don't even remember doing it is the story I'm sticking with for DH

I think they'll understand orange especially at this late stage. Hope you're all having sleep full nights!!

OrangeBlossom2 · 31/08/2013 06:46

Oh dear umlauf! Nothing fits me at the moment except flip flops and I have cut between two toes from them rubbing so really have no shoes my all. Maybe I should do some midnight shopping too!

Natalieand · 31/08/2013 07:26

Been awake half the night with a close to record level number of toilet breaks, I can't remember virtually any of what I have read lol

Hope those that were up in the night get plenty of rest today, hope u are starting to feel better too tarlia...perhaps u will have the next 'October' baby? How many weeks r u now?

I second whoever it was that said the first 7 months flew by and since 30 weeks has arrived its dragged like absolutely anything!

Sorry u had a crappy day on your birthday hayle x

Troublesome toddlers...I can definately relate, dd is so emotional she cries at the drop of a hat! And I also can't remember who said their little one told daddy they hate them, was it u hayle I had a friend with a 3.5 year old and when their new addition arrived they experienced simular with her telling them she hated them etc I think its just their way of getting extra attention, children love attention even if it means getting negative attention in my experience

Hope everyone is enjoying maternity leave x

I'm viewing a 3 bedroom house today, and if I accept it I will be moving house at 38 weeks pregnsnt-oh the joys lol

legally I had no experience personally of a c sec but my sister had a Emcs and after 3 weeks she was able to walk about 10 minutes to my mums just alot slower than what she usually would, would u not consider a vs final delivery now they r both head down? X

Natalieand · 31/08/2013 07:29

Sorry my phone changed vaginal delivery to vs final delivery lol xx

legallyblond · 31/08/2013 07:52

Morning!

Tarlia - my DH can be like this sometimes... I'm hoping not this weekend... He has just been away Sun to Thurs (back very briefly) then finally came back late last night (for good now, what with me being 36 weeks with twins...!). On the Thurs, for his few hours back, he just slept... But now it's time to man up. Tbh, he is a total grump when woken, whether night or morning.... But usually apologises when the grump has worn off... I would tell him he needs to man up, but once he's properly awake.

MrsHN - parents! I love them v much but since moving back to the area I've really tried to set boundaries. My mum would love to know DD's teacher and be "involved" in everything but I prefer some of the day to day stuff to be just "ours"... Thanks for the kind words Grin!

Nat - I am really torn between vaginal birth and c section. But I have a consultant who is a real expert in twins and he has said that, for the safety of twin 2, he would recommend c section every time "without hesitation". I just can't take a willing risk to twin 2 for the sake of my own recovery...... I think other consultants would have v different views and would push for a natural delivery, but my hospital def favours c section for twins... Even the midwives say they get "very, very nervous" when a twin preg tries to deliver naturally on the ward.... Given their attitudes, and therefore experience in twin deliveries, although I am dreading it, I think c s is probably best... But still torn!

Shirehobbit · 31/08/2013 08:02

What happens if you start labour naturally before the c-section date, legally?
It's such a conflict. But you do have two lovely-sized babies waiting to arrive x

Natalieand · 31/08/2013 08:05

Its like a catch 22 isn't it? If u go for spontaneous vaginal delivery and deliver twin 1 safely u could end up with Emcs for twin 2, and they say recovery is better for a planned c sec rather than Emcs, or so I heard anyway? I'm deffo not an expert lol. X

HotSoupDumpling · 31/08/2013 08:17

Morning all. DP considers the carseat and isofix base to be Manly things that he, as a Man, will be dealing with. Hmm. Thanks to whoever posted the Which videos, which I have sent to him and will be watching myself! I imagine I may also need to waddle in and save the day, as he's not particularly good at following installation instructions.

It is a great idea to agree a routine of who does what in the night. I'd love to settle this with DP. But as it's our first and I'll be recovering from an elcs, we aren't sure of exactly what needs to be done and what I'll be capable of.

(Have got in the routine of doing pelvic exercises while reading mumsnet. Here's a reminder to everyone!)

Umlauf · 31/08/2013 08:32

Feeling fresher after a shower!

I need to have a play with the car and carseat, I'm avoiding it because it will not be a fun job! We're off to Ikea again today to furnish the nursery and pick up some extra bits we couldn't afford last time. Going to do the nursery grey with yellow bits. I think.

I was stupid buying those boots! I didn't really remember doing it until the real morning either!!! They are these ones so totally impractical for the rain and walking pram!

shire thank you for being brave and sharing the names! I don't know why you were worried as they are all genuinely beautiful. If I had to choose I would say Theresa Rose is my favourite, I think Tess or Tessa is such a romantic, strong, classic but unusual, feminine but fierce nickname, but not a cutesy nickname. And it just runs beautifully into Rose. Abigail is lovely but be prepared for her being called Abi/Abbie/Abby etc. Francesca is gorgeous as well, I lived in Italy so it makes me think of a Boticelli maiden! The boys names are all lovely as well, I can't pick a favourite at all. I love Gabriel, Matthew is so lovely to say, Lawrence sounds so masculine and handsome... you're going to have a hard job choosing!

Do think of the shortenings as well, with my brother Christopher (one half of Lucifer haha!!), my Mum went mad if anyone called him Chris, as she had chosen the full name and didn't like the nickname. I remember her barking at his little friends when he was at primary school! Of course she lost that battle, only family call him Christopher now!!

Thanks for the spices tip GTbaby I hadn't even considered it until we were chatting about onions the other day causing colic or something i may have remembered that wrong I cook most things with chili and so hopefully the baby will be a bit used to it by now, but I'll keep the early meals a little milder and maybe build up to it. I wonder whether the more variety you have when breastfeeding, the less fussy an eater the baby is when it weans...!

Sorry to hear of all the fellow insomniacs.

Tarlia · 31/08/2013 08:45

Thanks for the pelvic reminders!

fave love that the carseat took a woman's touch. I can just imagine their faces."

Who was it asking about getting their carseat fitted at JL? I think you'll be fine by reading the instructions and YouTube. Practice a few times now, then can go ask for another demo if needed, the most important thing is you pull it all tight do its not wobbly.

Nat Im 35 weeks today. When I was induced between 37-38 last time my cervix were very high up and unfavourable, and I know from smear its gone right back up since, so I assume it probably still is so unlikely I'm next unless I deteriorate.

Legally if you do not mind an opinion? I've considered what I'd do if told I was having twins a lot as lots in DP close family, and although you never know until in the situation, but I think I'd def opt for the CS. It would be a nightmare going through one vaginal delivery followed by an emCS - two recoveries, basically sore everywhere. Good luck with your decision. Fx for a less moody DH for you too. Glad he is home!

Tarlia · 31/08/2013 08:47

Oh and I was up at 3am my time, so an hour before you guess as we are GMT +1

Natalieand · 31/08/2013 08:51

tarlia that's an interesting theory a out a favourable cervix as a friend of mine didn't give birth until 14 days overdue as her induction took so long as she was very unfavourable but a few weeks ago she had a sweep at 39 weeks (her second baby) and she was already 2-3cms at 39 weeks without doing n e thing to intentionally encourage if, they do say that induction etc is always much easier this time, I've spent weeks hoping for a 38 week induction due to the size of the baby's head but now I'm possibly moving house (subject to viewing) at 38 weeks I'm gunna try and put it off until at least 39 weeks so I can actually get into the new house first! Trouble is if I like it its too much of a good deal to turn down x

Tarlia · 31/08/2013 09:14

That's really interesting, Nat and encouraging. It was a bit embarrassing last time as my cervix were so high up that the short podgy MW had to get a tall skinny one with long fingers to do it and insert gels. This time it's going to be sweep and oral induction pills. Good luck with the house viewing! you are very brave, I couldn't consider moving at 38 weeks but I detest everything about moving and mess.

cuillereasoupe · 31/08/2013 09:15

Are you a Franco-British couple too Prisci? Are you in France or the UK?

DP works nights (8 to 2) then usually gets to bed around 4. I'm hoping to express and get him to do the bulk of the night work. Not sure how realistic that plan is Confused. I'll probably move on to formula quite quickly because a) I go back to work p/t after 3 months and b) I can't afford to have my fertility suppressed for too long at my age if we want to get cracking on number 2.

MrsHoratioNelson · 31/08/2013 09:15

legally I hear you! Sometimes I relent and let my mother "in" a bit, only for her to act a bit like that MIL on the othwr thread and metaphorically doing my laundry!

And she wonders why I don't tell her things...

OP posts:
MotherOfNations · 31/08/2013 09:22

My ds is called Christopher Umlauf but was always Topher to my mum when he was younger and all his friends call him Chrissy. I think Chris is preferable to either of those.

Shirehobbit · 31/08/2013 09:30

I think you have to accept that a certain amount of choice with which diminutive is used for DC's name is out of your control once they start school. If we went with Theresa, she could well morph from a Tessa to a Terry.

MotherOfNations · 31/08/2013 09:34

Umlauf I'm not going to make any effort to change my diet. I cook a lot of West African and Indian food that is all tomato based and heavily spiced and just think that in African and Asian countries where most women breast feed their babies there aren't any problems.
I think it would only have an effect if the baby had never got used to it in pregnancy.

I think you're right in saying that a good variety while pregnant and breast feeding makes for less fussy eaters. All my children are good eaters and were weaned on the same foods as I eat myself minus the salt and and with less chilli.

roofio87 · 31/08/2013 09:38

Morning all. my lovely friends are throwing me a baby shower today so I'm very excited about that. some of my friends are coming from far and wide for it and one if my sisters is coming up from London so I feel very blessed. this is baby no 1 for any of my friends so they're all very enthusiastic its lovely!!

Pil have ordered our travel system and we're all going to pick it up in friday. im so excited and its only a pram haha! ! then hopefully dps shares money will come through this week and we'll get our car!!

hope everyone slept better last night. ive been breathing through my mouth a lot at night and waking up with a terrible dry mouth so I now have bad oral thrush. I get it a lot since I had radiotherapy a few years ago and its so sore!!

monkeytree · 31/08/2013 09:52

Shire Chosing names is such a personal thing. You probably have a favourite in mind. All of those names are lovely that you have listed. I do like Gabriel and Tessa (Theresa). I guess my favourites out of the list are Francesca (was on my list of names) and Laurence. I really do like the middle name Rose would like that as a middle name for dd2 but highly doubtful as dd2 has other ideas (have agreed she can choose a middle name). It's great to hear opinions/suggestions but go with a name that you like at the end of the day, some names will have bad connotations for some people but may sound perfect to you.

xuntitledx · 31/08/2013 09:53

Had to share with you all that I slept through the night, woo hoo!!

Hubby has also done my first perineum massage this morning also Hmm

moonblues · 31/08/2013 09:58

Good morning everyone.

Prisci just ignore your MIL. Your DS sounds like a genius child!

Legally sometimes it easier if you don't have a choice isn't it? I had a similar thing when my DD was breech. Because they nearly always section breech babies none of the midwives had much experience of delivering breech babies. If you really want to avoid a section you could always ask to speak to the head midwife re delivery.

I found recovery from my planned CS was much quicker than my EmCS ( I also had problems with wound infections). I think you would be able to do the walk to school ok, it's more the idea of feeding/changing 2 babies and getting your DD ready in time that would phase me! I would definitely ask for some help for that week. (But I might just be a slightly disorganised coward and I'm sure you'll cope brilliantly Wink)

Maybe you could ask on the multiple births board what other mums with twins think is doable?

ananikifo · 31/08/2013 10:00

Good morning everyone.

roofio I hope your mouth improves. Are you allowed to take anything for it?

I have developed a nasty cold I think. I've been feeling run down and exhausted all week but blamed the stress and exertion of moving. Last night I got a sore throat, headache, runny nose, etc so definitely a cold and definitely the last thing I need right now. Although, I sneezed and baby seemed to jump, so that cheered me up a bit! Any home remedies people want to share for sore throats?
