I just had a major coughing fit caused by a yummy Clarnico mint cream. I hope what came out of me was wee and not any other fluid...

cazboldy · 30/08/2013 21:43

Slippy - I rate toyotas too, after I was in a nasty accident about 10 years ago.

I was on the school run in the afternoon, and pulled over on a small back road as a car was coming from the other direction, but he was going so fast and he hit the bank on the other side of the road and ended up hitting me head on. It was horriffic!

He had been drinking. Failed breath test at the scene, but didn't end up getting prosecuted as his blood level was within legal limits, but then he was stuck in his car for 4 hours before he got to hospital!!

He was later prosecuted for dangerous driving. He had also been released from a hospital for the mentally ill the previous day and should not have been drinking or driving with the meds he was on Hmm ( I know how to pick them! Grin)

There was literally nothing left of the front of my car, but I walked away with bruising and torn muscles.

dd1 (who was nearly3) had a graze on her shoulder from her car seat strap, and ds2 (who was 18 months) had a graze on his forehead, where my mums head rest pushed back and caught him.

We were so lucky - the policeman in court said he has seen less damage on motorway crashes!!

Now I still swear by toyotas, and am a bit evangelical about car seats too!!

Loving the name chat - could do with some inspiration! We are well and truly stuck!

legallyblond · 30/08/2013 21:47

Oh I meant to say earlier... Had my final (36 week, but I'm 35+6) growth scan today.... Both now head down (how?!?! Both breech 14 days ago!). One is 5lb1 and the other us 5lb10 ish.... Still going for a c section, even though I could now attempt a vaginal birth.

For those who've had ELCS, DH needs to go away for a week almost 3 weeks after the section. Will I physically be able to do the walk to school (0.6 miles) and bedtime for DD on my own, or should I arrange help for both those "crunch" points? No idea really!

OrangeBlossom2 · 30/08/2013 21:50

On a related note...We picked up carseat today (maxi cosi cabriofix). Did you get car seat fittings at a shop when you bought them?

We were shown how to fit with seat belt and isofix in John Lewis and seems straightforward. Ive also watched all the how to videos on the which website here if you are interested

Would anyone reccomended going back to get them to show us in both our cars?

Shirehobbit · 30/08/2013 21:51

Wow - that's a lot of baby already, Legally!

OrangeBlossom2 · 30/08/2013 21:53

Cross posts - related to car crashes, not your babies obviously.
That's good legally. Great weights already. Sorry no advice on recovery times, MoN should be able to advise?

MotherOfNations · 30/08/2013 21:59

You should be fine legally I was doing the walk to school the day after I got home from hospital. Just don't try to be brave and stop taking the painkillers.

legallyblond · 30/08/2013 22:15

I won't be brave MoN! I sort of thought that after two weeks I should be human and able to do most things, just rather fragile.... Is that right?

MotherOfNations · 30/08/2013 22:28

That was certainly the case for me legally. Everyone is different I suppose and I've heard varying stories on threads here but I think as long as you stay on top of pain relief you should be fine.

Prisci · 30/08/2013 22:45

Sorry I have not posted for a while, recovering from parents in law visit, manage to avoid any arguments, basically just kept very quiet and been breathing very deeply a lot (great preparation for labour, I guess). MIL did not ask once if I was feeling ok, or help at all, she did not make her own cup of coffee or even put something in the dishwasher etc... Before she left she did mention to DH that she though if she was taking care of DS1 he would be better at adding up and reading by now, as if he was terribly behind. He has just turn 5, he is almost reading chapter books in English, can do additions to up 20 and speaks both French and English fluently, what else does she want...and that was just one of many comments, my blood pressure is rising just thinking of it.

On the name front, we still have no idea for the baby, with DS1 (Theo) it was quite straight forward, I had it in mind before becoming PG and DH also liked it, with DS2 (Milo), we did not have a clue but then we heard it when I was about 5months and that was it, but this time we both have no idea, maybe because it is a girl and we think it has more impact in the future, thus feel the pressure more. Also Theo and Milo, both work well in French and English, even if they get pronounced in different way, neither DS seem to mind. However if we listened to DS2 (3 year old), we should name the baby marshmallow sweet, no idea why but he is determined. He has also been more clingy and as had a few accidents in the past few weeks, even though he has been fully potty trained for 6months now. It is going to be very difficult for him.

There is mixed views about it, but when we got DS2, we had a present ready from the baby for DS1, and it really helped, we also had friends who made sure that they had something small for DS1, so he did not feel left out. Both DS have been helping with choosing outfits for the baby etc.. despite all of it, it really depends on their personality, I know DS1 is not at all the jealous type compared to DS2, it will be much easier for him, we had no issues at all when DS2 was born.

On the bras front, I have ordered some Bravado but also just received those www.vertbaudet.co.uk/printed-stretch-jersey-nursing-bra-blush-pink.htm?ProductId=026000007&FiltreCouleur=6626&t=6 from Vertbaudet, they are extremely comfy and padded, if anyone is still looking.

textbook · 30/08/2013 22:51

Another perspective legally - I'm sure it won't be the case for you, but I got an infection in my section scar and certainly wouldn't have been able to do the school run at 2/3 weeks post-op. It might be wise to have someone on standby just in case if you have the option, but like I said, I'm sure your recovery will be more like MoN's than my horror story (and I'm hoping mine will be too this time!)

I definitely overdid it in the first week as I went stir-crazy stuck in the hospital for 3 days, and I'm sure this is what caused the problem. I'm forcing myself to be much more relaxed this time too Smile

legallyblond · 30/08/2013 23:23

I know that to a certain extent it's luck of the draw. I plan to stay in hospital as long as poss because it is basically enforced rest time, which us good. And I really don't mind hospitals at all - I've stayed in for a few days or more plenty of times.

legallyblond · 30/08/2013 23:25

I can't remember textbook, are you having another CS this time? I think you are, but can't remember why (sorry!).... I plan to take it VERY easy for 2 weeks and 5 days, until DH leaves....

legallyblond · 30/08/2013 23:28

Sorry to keep posting! My mum is 15 minutes away and will help (v willingly) if I need it. I just try not to ask too much as my parents are great but can be rather interfering and I prefer to keep them at a bit of a healthy distance if possible.... still hasn't quite clicked for them that we're grown ups....

GTbaby · 30/08/2013 23:45

Extremely tiered n just caught up.

Just one comment about curry spices and bf. I think it's ok to eat spicy food. They get used to it while in the tummy as the amniotic fluid takes on flavours we eat.

However anything we eat can "upset" babies tummy through bf. so it's important to keep a record of food you eat to see if it affects the baby.
As long as you stay away from very chillie curry its ok.

Pinkforboys · 30/08/2013 23:53

JUst finished cake for tomorrow's birthday. Now to finish wrapping and make the place look birthday-ish whilst DH watches Avitar and grumbles at how many parcels DS has (Tennis to him)

Sleep well ladies. x

Tarlia · 31/08/2013 01:50

Urg, hello (almost)3am I'm awake, DP fault as I had to wake him to give DS his asthma pump and he started a wispered hissy row over it..

Now he fell asleep within 2 mins of head hitting pillow but I'm laying awake an hour later still fretting and getting more cross.

My main reason for posting this is for first timers, it's unlikely you'll get through the first couple of sleep deprived weeks without a midnight exchange of words, it's worth discussing this before it happens. Try to have a rule that what happens in the night, stays in the night unless its a regular occurance ie DH doesn't want to help at all- he needs to in that paternity leave and Friday and Saturday nights if nothing else. For breast feeders our routine was I fed DS, Then woke DP to change his nappy, DP went back to sleep while I did second half of fed. DS needed a nappy change mid fed as he was small and overly sleepy in the beginning (had to be woken for feds) this would rewake him so he took enough but also he'd need changed at every feed as otherwise he'd leak. Meant I could run to loo, get a drink or snack if needed and had a small bit of company even if he was instantly asleep again once done.

Though tonight's will be discussed, it was just nasty and not from exhaustion, he is a moody pig when woken but DS and I are both ill so really needs to man up as DS usually sleeps through. Guess who usually deals with the nights and medicines..if I could lift DS I would be tonight too! Tennis for my DP too, pink! Hope your little guy enjoys his special day. Sorry you are having a tough time.

I've read everything but will post more in the morning.

MrsHoratioNelson · 31/08/2013 03:32

Tarlia I will keep you company on the graveyard shift Sad

legally in not qualified to comment, not having had a CS, but I think you're right about taking it as easy as possible in the early days. Not easy with your DD, but I imagine that if you don't overdue it early on you stand a much better chance of being up to the school run by week 3.

Your mother sounds very much like mine - I frequently have to remind her I'm an adult in my 30s and responsible enough to be on my second mortgage Shock

Don't forget there are others close by who can step in to help with the school run if that would be helpful...

I'm awake too tarlia. My body has a thing about having a 3am wee, then staying awake. Luckily my hubby has gone to sleep on the sofa coz the bedroom is boiling hot, so got the bed to myself but the git has taken my long pregnancy pillow to the sofa with him, so may have to wake him up and have words!!!

Is anyone else finding that the first 7 months of pregnancy flew by but is now dragging like hell?? I'm fed up of feeling hot and uncomfortable 24/7. Maternity leave starts next weekend and am going to be virtually housebound because DH will have the car and I can barely walk to the end of my road without agony from SPD Hmm

Fitted the car seat and base today (maxi cosi pebble and family fix base) needed a degree in engineering to fit it in the back of a 3 door fiesta lol

favellio · 31/08/2013 03:46

So that's 3 of us awake at 3am.......Sad
Wonder if its a sign of the time baby will wake us when it's hear?!

MrsHoratioNelson · 31/08/2013 03:56

Favellio snap to everything apart from the SPD and the three door Fiesta - ours is a bit bigger, but I don't doubt that it will require a degree in engineering and a few cross words Grin

favellio · 31/08/2013 04:06

Funniest thing was that my husband and dad fitted the base (my dad is actually an engineer lol) and were getting stressed coz it was really wobbly and unsafe. I waddled out, took one look, lifted the clip thing, pulled the seatbelt extra tight, clipped it back down and.....taa daah....a perfectly stable base (and a deflated looking hubby and dad lol) Smile

Hi! Been awake since 4. Can't get comfy and have loads going on in my head - argh!

OrangeBlossom2 · 31/08/2013 06:23

hot and sweaty here too but other than a couple of wee trips and telling snoring dh to roll over i mainly slept until 5 which isn't a ridiculous time to be up.
sorry to hear about your bad night tarlia.

i am visiting my. grandparents today and am meant to be visiting sil and nephews first but other apparently one of the boys has worms.Confused Thinking i might just drop birthday presents at the door. don't want to offend sil but also don't want worms as nhs website says you shouldn't take medicine to treat them while pregnant. have enough uncomfortableness already too.
