How about Alexander or Finn cuillereasoupe? Or the Scottish (I think) variant of Alister - Alasdair? (if that would be different enough)

thethreeblondies wow, glad your DH is ok! scary!

Umlauf Lovely, thank you! I've added those to my recipe folder :-D I hadn't though of the spices passing though breastmilk to be honest, though most ones I make are quite mild so hopefully it wouldn't affect the baby...

Here's the cashew one www.evernote.com/shard/s204/sh/e8564ee3-4a91-4c35-a10a-ca15ddd54cea/a2f53c2b8043098ef5164aea077ce94a

I don't have the chickpea one in evernote, so I'll hoke it out of the cookbook tonight, it's really simple and quick so I love it..

Smitten1981 · 30/08/2013 17:36

Cuillere Myself and DH both love Hamish, but our surname is Wallace and we'd feel a bit of a fraud having such a Scottish name when we have no Scottish family history at all.

Shame as it was and still is the only name that we both really like.

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 30/08/2013 17:40

hayle, Pink, and others with older DC proving to be a little "challenging" at the moment, thank you for sharing your trials and tribulations. I'm having a bit of a crisis of confidence over my parenting at the moment (in part thanks to my visit home) and how DD is going to cope with a sibling. Reassuring to know other DCs are having a bit of a 'phase' too.

Pink - one of DD's full-on meltdowns when we were away was over a tiny bit of a pick n' mix.

Orange and Clapham - your comments about yr 1/2 children picking names has really got me thinking. Although she doesn't always come across as such, I think DD is deep down a very anxious child and trying to be in charge of the baby's name is her way of trying to exert some control over the situation.

Orange - I'm probably being exceedingly pfb, but I'd really appreciate your opinion (as a teacher of this age group) as to whether I should try to speak to DD's new teachers (they job share) in advance about our forthcoming arrival. Or do you think they'll just see that I'm heavily pregnant and automatically be alert to the fact there'll soon be upheaval at home?

Glad the scan went well Pseudo

I have been wondering about Pennylane ....

MotherOfNations · 30/08/2013 17:42

There must be Scots blood somewhere with a surname like Wallace smitten. I'd go with whatever name you like regardless of origin.

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 30/08/2013 17:44

Sending get well wishes to your little lad Tarlia and fingers crossed for you and baby. Hopefully baby will stay in there for a good few weeks longer x

cuillereasoupe · 30/08/2013 17:46

Sounds scary 3blondies. Glad everyone's OK.

The problem is whatever we choose also needs to work in French, which limits things quite a lot. Fortunately DP is from Brittany and there's quite an overlap with Breton/Scottish/Gaelic names. Funnily enough we discussed Hector - it might come back into the running - and I'm also toying with Gregor. My grandfather was from County Sligo so I guess there's a vague Celtic connection there somewhere...

OrangeBlossom2 · 30/08/2013 18:09

I hope you didn't mind me putting my two pennies worth in Bridget, obviously I dint have any experience of children of my own yet. It wouldn't hurt to mention it to the new teachers when you see them at dropping off time. The previous teacher probably would have mentioned it anyway when handing over information about the class and the bump is a big clue, but it is good for them to know if there is a reason for her acting out of character, or if you don't manage to read with her every night/have much time to help with homework etc! Sometimes children try to get attention in other ways by acting up at school but they are pretty resilient really and always so proud and excited of their new siblings. She might like to bring in pictures to show the class. SO many times parents have told me about the monsters their children are being at home when they are fine in school (not just those with pregnant mums, pretty much all of them at one point or another). I suppose they have to let it out somewhere...

So glad they let you out Tarlia. I don't imagine being in hospital worrying about your son is great for keeping your blood pressure down.

Pinkforboys · 30/08/2013 18:11

Bridget that's a really good idea that tbh I really hadn't considered. I think raising new addition with teacher is wise- DS is going into Y2 with a new male teacher and it can't hurt to make sure he's aware that there might be a backlash. I know a couple of DS's friends had new additions last term and one of them was def more clingy and difficult at drop off.

3blondies that sounds terrifying. Glad your Dh came out unscathed.

legallyblond · 30/08/2013 19:17

Oh oh Cuiller - you get to use my fave, tiny bit out there, name: Yannick. It's Breton. I know a v sexy one (half Irish, half Breton, brought up in London)!

Shirehobbit · 30/08/2013 19:25

Ok. Our name options - be honest, ladies. In no particular order:
Girls-
Theresa Rose (shortened to Tessa)
Abigail Rose
Francesca May

Boys-
Gabriel Lawrence
Matthew Lawrence
Lawrence Gray

We're both really keen to have a name that can be shortened (as neither of ours can) and a name that is not too popular (as mine is) or too unusual (as DH's is).

monkeytree · 30/08/2013 19:30

3 blondies Glad your dh is O.K that must have been very scary.

For all the ladies who have had falls it is such a worrying time and if I had a fall I would worry too but maybe this may help. When I was 38 weeks pregnant with DD1 our car was written off (I was a passenger and dh was driving).

This was caused by an idiot pulling out at a junction. DH swerved the car so his side of the car took the brunt of the accident but the front of our car was completely crumpled. My abdomen was black and blue (had been careful to tuck belt below abdomen) and all across my chest was badly bruised. Also my face. I had whiplash and was concussed. Meanwhile DH was on a stretcher reporting that he couldn't feel his toes. I had to stay in hospital for a few days to be monitored and I felt very scared.

What I'm trying to say is that DD was O.K even though I feared I had lost her. In fact she didn't come early as anticipated but 2 days late! Our little ones must be pretty well protected in there.

Warlin · 30/08/2013 19:40

Loving the name chat...a friend of mine recently had a Harris which I thought was quite nice.

Impressed with all the cooking. Dh does the cooking in our house or if left to me toast would suffice :)

threeblondies hope dh is ok, how scary for you both.

MrsHoratioNelson · 30/08/2013 19:45

Oh Cuilliere that's tough. Gregor is nice.

legally take heart! My name thread illicited only negative responses initially. It's not a great feeling when you're wavering anyway. If you like it, just go with it. And sod everyone else Grin

Car crashes are terrifying, monkey tree and 3blondies what lucky escapes you and your loved ones have had, I had a traumatic crash last year still dealing with the claim but I was hit by a drunk driver, so fortunate we had a good car or our outcome would have been very different. I always reccomend toyotas now!

How about Cameron, dougal, finlay, duglas or Angus? If you're looking for Scottish names.

Slippysnow · 30/08/2013 20:08

Actually Dougal isn't Scottish is it?

Slippysnow · 30/08/2013 20:12

Also, shire I like your names, I didn't know tessa wa short for Theresa. I know a couple of lauries which is a version of Lawrence or a name in itself. You don't hear of many Gabriels but its lovely too, you better hope he is an angel to pull it off though ;)

cuillereasoupe · 30/08/2013 20:26

I love Lawrence and Tessa shire.

Yannick is not a name I'm particularly fond of I'm afraid. Gosh it's difficult this name business!

Shirehobbit · 30/08/2013 20:37

We didn't know where the diminutive Tessa came from until we looked it up, either Slippy Blush

Gabriel comes from my teenage love of Gabriel Oak in Hardy's Far From the Madding Crowd.
But Damien may be a more apt name. Especially considering how I'm being pumelled under my ribs again!!

OrangeBlossom2 · 30/08/2013 20:39

Scary hearing about the car accidents, glad all are ok.
Claims take ages, I am still chasing my claim from November 2011 even though we said we wanted to settle quickly to get it sorted before baby comes even thugh we might get less money. That was in February...

Shire well done for being brave and sharing! I like those names, especially Tessa. Gray makes me think of fifty shades... SIL is called Francesca. Family call her Chess, friends call her Frankie, some people call her Fran (Dnt like the last one as much) so lots of options.

What would Lawrence be shortened to?

ananikifo · 30/08/2013 20:43

shire I love all your names especially Abigail and Gabriel.

Shirehobbit · 30/08/2013 20:44

I think there's lots of options for Lawrence - Law, Lawrie, Lonnie, Reenie, Wren...
I like the fact that an individual can kind of choose their own diminutive too, especially when they're older. Like a right of passage - that was my childhood name, now I'm... if that makes sense?

Shirehobbit · 30/08/2013 20:45

Sorry for double posting! Blush

And thank you for the comments so far Smile

MotherOfNations · 30/08/2013 21:21

I quite like the Scottish boys name Lachlan. Probably because my mum often talks about her uncle Lachie (who I never met )fondly so the name has nice connotations for me.

MotherOfNations · 30/08/2013 21:24

Dougal is Scottish Slippy
