I laboured in my jeans n top with dc2 as was so quick I didn't have time to change or get examined but with dc1 I had an old nightshirt that I was going to bin but DH washed it and it came up like new. Same nightshirt, that's not bean worn since, is in my bag for this baby. Only advice is be comfy. Had wooly bed socks on with dc1 as was so cold but bare feet with 2 as was too hot

claphammama · 17/08/2013 12:49

Hi girls! Had a relatively good sleep after the long day yesterday and was the only person at breakfast without a hangover! DP came back at 2.30am and managed not to wake me up, not even with his snoring. flyer I will post a photo of my earplugs on Facebook - the only ones that work for me. they are used by professional swimmers apparently and really work. They are very sticky and you can shape them to your ears like a blue tag. I buy them in Boots. We are now back at DP's mum in Cheltenham. He is snoring on the sofa (obviously) and she is doting on me.

how are you feeling now tarlia? have they eased off a bit?

re: labour outfit... I was quite shameless I'm afraid. I wore a black vest and nothing down there... I couldn't stand anything below my waste... (not my usual behaviour I promise but I was in so much pain I couldn't care who sees what etc) At one point the midwife wanted to cover me for a doctor check up to make me look more decent and I just barked at her so she didn't.

legally try not to worry too much hard as it is, like everyone said, I'm sure they would react if they thought something was wrong. you've done so well to get to 34 weeks with twins!! (and yes, I'm letting the work stuff go and planning for my brighter future instead Smile)

falcon this sounds stressful but hope it turns into a better afternoon and evening. And yes - as soup said, they don't grow up... mine is 39...

ana the sieve... it made me think... didn't think about it until now. Believe it or not, my biggest worry about the labour was that I would push out something else in addition to the baby... I was actually so paranoid about it that refused to push at first when they asked me to push... I'm also really worried about it this time... I will ask midwife about it at my next appointment.

hotsoup which London hospital are you going to?

And I told DP pink lady's news yesterday and now he really wants to cancel his trip to HK! I would be 33-34 weeks when he goes.

claphammama · 17/08/2013 12:56

and forgot - Bridget, I can't remember sweating after my first birth but read something about it somewhere last week. apparently it's normal to sweat profusely in the first few days after birth as your body gets rid of excess water etc

Kelly1814 · 17/08/2013 13:46

Hi all!

Legally, I had the steroids at 24 weeks when they thought my baby was coming, aside from the indignity of an injection in each buttock they were fine. I'll be having my section at 36 weeks (if get that far, fingers crossed) and they have mentioned they may give me a second dose but undecided as yet.

Bracing myself for another week at work, thought of it is horrific. May have to eat some biscuits to get myself in the mood :)

Bronzemoth · 17/08/2013 13:59

anything good call on the tescos nighties. The check shirt one is exactly what I was looking for, button up but not too nightie-ish. I've also been confused as to what to where I've read other threads where some of the answers have been dismissive about clothing being the least of your worries. It may end up like that but if like the option to maintain a small amount of modesty if possible. My only question is what size. I was size 10 before pregnancy do I just go as big as they go 20-22?

roofio87 · 17/08/2013 14:31

bronze i was a pre pg 10/12 and have bought one nightie 20-22 and one 16-18. both are still big on me now at 33 weeks, but even the bigger one isnt ridiculously big!

ananikifo · 17/08/2013 15:30

So are we thinking something like this or this or more like this? I guess I would need to get my lazy bum to tesco and see them in person to make sure the "button detail" actually unbuttons.

MotherOfNations · 17/08/2013 15:37

Hi everyone. I'm exhausted today too. I didn't get to bedu til almost 3am. it was my mum's 70th yesterday and we all we t up to see her and had a wee house party.
My Dp made the stupid mistake of getting very drunk and falling asleep in one of the bedrooms. My brother and the dc's thought it would be very funny to cover him toothpaste. When he woke up he wasn't best pleased and seemed to blame me even though I was very considerate and videod the incriminating evidence and put it on facebook.
He told me that he wouldn't be looking after dc's today to let me meet my friend for lunch but he saw the funny side eventually and relented. Hopefully it will put him off getting so drunk in the future.

MrsO27 · 17/08/2013 15:46

soup I'm anterior placenta and would be similar to you. Inconsistent. 2 days this week baby was very active but yesterday and today, not much at all. Just putting it down to what I was told about the way baby is facing. If you're worried, have a cold drink and something sweet and place 2 hands on your stomach in quiet room for 30 mins. If you have no movement in that time, ring your mw/hospital. It's a constant worry though so I do sympathise. Much prefer the active days as I can get on with my day without worrying so much!
clapham I can't give much advice on the work situation as even though I know I shouldn't stress about it, I do. Meeting with the CEO on Monday about a particularly difficult project and it's all I can think about this weekend (although after last weekend, I'm avoiding my emails!) Just counting the days to maternity leave and trying as much as I can to step back and away from situations I am powerless to resolve in the time I have left, especially now my cover has started. Unlike your replacement, mine seems to be less ambitious and a bit of a lazy bones and quite happy letting me do everything, but I got that sorted on Friday! I know I shouldn't feel this way, but kinda hoping he is a bit sh!t so they realise how lucky they were to have me Grin. That's bad isn't it?!

Pinkforboys · 17/08/2013 15:57

MoN thanks for sharing, made me laugh!
Falcon I do hope your other half saw sense and got the electric on. Not a stress you need. Poor dogs too :(

You've all been making me think about my labour with DS. I'll echo what others have said- make sure you're comfy. Really comfy. I went to hosp in really loose trackie bottoms plus loose T-shirt/vest and my favourite but v old loose jumper. The contractions made me want everything off my tummy so I lost the bottoms, but the loose tops covered my dignity.
With regards to the other, er, things you might push out, I found that I naturally needed the loo just before transition (thank God!!) tho that meant wandering down the hall to the loo in my next to nothings in front of the security guards (!?)
Somehow DS went straight to my boob- I think I lost all care for my dignity by the end of the labour and just stripped off.

I took so much stuff in my hosp bag that I didn't use. There's also the worry that nothing's secure there. Button open nighties are def the way to go, or crossover ones where one side drops down. I'm already wearing 2 of the ones I wore post-DS.

Oh- and if you want/can it's worth investing in some 'nice loungewear for when you're receiving guests' post birth at home. You may not feel like wearing anything without an elastic waist for a very long time...(I think I went for a size L when I'm usually an S)

ComtesseDeFrouFrou · 17/08/2013 16:27

Thanks to those answering my questions about water births. We had the last of two NCT classes today and I am now pretty sure that I'd want to labour in water, possibly even give birth in the pool. Of course, there's a chance I'll hate it, but I'd like to give it a go.

I was also reassured that there's no need to bring a sieve Blush

Natalieand · 17/08/2013 16:33

I think instead of a pyjama set for after or even just a nightie perhaps a nightie and pyjamas bottoms (which loads of places sell separately nowadays) is best cos then if u do have a catheter u can not bother with the trousers but alternatively if u feel more comfortable u can cover up to go to toilet etc i no that's what I did last time and I just wore track suit bottoms and vest top home.
I second what pink days sbout comfy loungewear especially for why u have visitors the last thing u want is to be wearing your pyjamas but at the same time u don't wanna be wearing jeans either especially if u do end up with a c sec.

I can't remember who asked originally but I'm in the anterior gang and the last few days I've felt little in the way of movement but what he is doing must be behind the placenta as my tummy is jolting like he's moving but I can't feel it also he keeps jamming something under my ribs as its difficult to sit in some positions without feeling like my ribs r gunna break.

MoN your story about dp did make me chuckle- always essential to video and put on Facebook lol

I made the first step towards my hospital bag yoga ex dog buying giant pants the other week by collecting the bag ill be using from my sister

falcon where will u be getting your post birth nighties from? I don't mean to cause offence but I'm on the bigger side too so thought I could steal your ideas. Cos I noticed lots of the ladies usually a size 10ish r buying 20-22 nighties and I would usually buy that size anyway and not
Many places accommodate for bigger than that?

Last time I laboured in long vest top and pyjamas trousers u til my waters broke then changed into a hospital gown and tbh I have no idea what I wore post birth x

Natalieand · 17/08/2013 16:38

Oh and I've had a successfull day today WRT buggies

I've managed go get my brand new mirrored chassis babystyle oyster + carrycot + colour pack for a total of £336 which should infact cost £494 by harrassing customer services with various deals they have done over the last few months so I'm well chuffed with that

TheFalconsmistress · 17/08/2013 17:20

afternoon has got better thank god!

nat I just bought a 2 pack from mothercare size 18 and they are quite roomy but bhs has some nice big ones too that i might buy incase of prolonged stay. I also have a joe browns one from simply be its a 22 and enormous "boyfriend shirt" button down the front but its white which is an issue for labour/post labour leakage but its super comfy

Natalieand · 17/08/2013 17:23

Thanks falcon my mum got me a 2 pack of from asda in size 24-26 which fit fine in my belly but they r thin strapped and quite loose around my boobs so a bit to revealing hopefully they do normal nighties with short sleeves in that size too ill have to have a look x

SeriousStuff · 17/08/2013 17:42

Welcome TWavre we have the same due date!

DH is with friends all weekend (last chance he'll probably have for a few months now!) so I've started washing baby clothes/blankets/towels etc... I'm 32wks today so not sure if I'm getting ahead of myself but thought, the baby could come anytime now so best be prepared!

Comtesse the sieve is what freaks me out about water births. I'm a bit of a clean freak so sitting in dirty water really worries me. But I figured, when I get in, the water will be perfectly clean and by the time the water includes other 'stuff' I'll be too far into labour to care! Baths have really helped me relax during my pregnancy so I'm hoping a birthing pool will do the same.

Wickedgirl · 17/08/2013 17:55

I too would like a water birth this time. Having warm baths really helps with my SPD so I'm hoping that a water birth will help with that too. I love baths so I should be happy to birth in a pool.

roofio87 · 17/08/2013 18:38

haha, dp keeps putting his head on my bump and talking to baby and every time baby kicks him in thr head!!!Grin

AnythingNotEverything · 17/08/2013 19:01

Anan and Bronze - I bought a purply brushed cotton checked nightshirt from tesco today, somewhere between the first two links Anan put on. I was a 14 pre pregnancy, tried in a 16-18, and there's a couple of inches space now, and space for when my bump drops (currently almost 32 weeks).

I wanted the black one but they didn't have it in my huge tesco. Think I'll order it online. Will be good for those middle of the night feeds too.

They did go up to a 20/22 but they we're really roomy.

TWavre · 17/08/2013 19:05

Thanks SeriousStuff - I'm doing exactly the same as you this weekend, washing all the clothes I've managed to buy so far @ folding it neatly in drawers.

My other half has just started looking at baby stuff on amazon & keeps showing me the most adorable (but horrendously expensive) outfits!

Flyer747 · 17/08/2013 19:19

Feeling rough, banging headache and feel very sick Hmm

Back from NCT and it's still fair to say our instructor is possibly one of the most opinionated people I've ever met....

Soupqueen · 17/08/2013 19:25

flyer are you getting any spots in front of your eyes? Any swelling? Is it worth a call to the midwives?

We had our NCT breastfeeding class this afternoon, really useful. I've found the classes very good and informative, and not experienced any of the horror stories I'd heard about thankfully.
I have now got a hospita bag list and worked out what I still need to get, so feel a lot more organised (even though I'm not actually organised at all)

Absolutely shattered thinking of going to bed!

Prisci · 17/08/2013 19:28

I don't know how but I always end up completely naked, just don't like having anything on during labour, but with ds1, I kept my socks on since I was cold, very sexy indeed. It is not like me but I figure that the MW and the Dr have seen everything by now. I start with front oppening nighty just in case, so I can have skin to skin/ try breastfeeding after the birth but DP is briefed about covering me up after birth if I get naked again Blush. For post birth/home, I bought a couple of those from vertbaudet:
www.vertbaudet.co.uk/maternity-cardigan-top-trousers-outfit.htm?ProductId=008000001&t=6#
Not the cheapest option but the outfit is very comfy, washes well and the elasticated part of the trousers goes really high, so ideal in case of a c-section and can wear them already prior to birth. The only downside is that there no opening for breastfeeding for the top.

I am not sure if anyone as seen, but I have been looking for padded breastfeeding bras, any suggestions? I often forget the pads, I usually don't leak but I don't like having my nipples sticking out.

Soupqueen · 17/08/2013 19:29

And thanks for the reassurance re movements. I know this makes me sound a bit like a spoiled brat, but does anyone else feel a bit cheated with the anterior placenta? I'm constantly worried and would love to feel the things I'm hearing about. Also means DH hasn't really felt anything and I really feel for him.

PseudoBadger · 17/08/2013 19:34

Flyer please call (broken record again) as PE doesn't have to have all symptoms to be there.....
