Thanks for the buggy advice shooting, sanji, favellio and warlin
We had a bugaboo bee plus with ds which was perfect for London but we sold it when we moved. Ds was parent facing for ages and we all loved it. Don't know what we're going to do now as have to consider fairly long winter with heavy snow. I don't drive so walking and public transport for us. I also found walking helped weight loss last time and was good for head while on mat leave

chickieno1 · 13/08/2013 15:43

slippy

1 no experience.

2 gym ball great. Used to sit on it while working from home! Also used it during labour

3 floaters could be related to fatty diet. Intestines affected by pregnancy hormones. Usually more of a problem in first trimester bu third trimester tends to bring on constipation again. Maybe keep an eye on diet and see if you notice a link? Try increasing water intake too? ana is a dietician (I hope I haven't got that wrong) maybe she has some ideas

Is Tommies Guy's and St Thomas...? Or am I dreaming?

terrifiednewbie · 13/08/2013 16:18

Clapham- ha no. I considered for a while but in a different speciality. We still work closely with obs and gynae, which was why I ended up going to St Thomas' (sorry I still call it Tommies), one of our nearest hospital rather than where I work- whilst there were pros and cons, I just wasn't sure how I felt about people I knew well being being involved in my care iykwim). I think you said you are at St Thomas' too- or have I got that mixed up?

Chickieno- I hope you didn't have to run between the two tower blocks there on a regular basis- I bet that isn't fun! We looked at bugaboo bee plus (and then promptly discarded it when someone brought it back into the shop as we were there because the wheels had been chewed on an escalator in the shopping centre- apparently the thin thread on the wheels makes it more prone than most other pushchairs, and whilst they say you shouldnt use pushchairs on escalators, I think it will end up being inevitable that we will use escalators on some occasion as we try to use public transport where possible). I thought the Uppababy vista was great but just too wide and a tad too heavy, but friends out in the countryside love it. I think I got unlucky with the spd as it was probably triggered by slipping but work have been great and I am now working from home (which is unheard of!) until I go onto annual leave at the end of August.

Flyer747 · 13/08/2013 16:26

Clapham and Bowlful I also have the odd thick black hair sprouting from the chin....I seem to get some sick kick out of plucking it, I must sound like a absolute freak now Grin

PseudoBadger · 13/08/2013 16:29

Somehow this baby is positioned in such a way that it's making me desperate for the loo every 15 minutes and breathless most of the time. How big is it?!

1stTimer25 · 13/08/2013 16:29

thank you for the gym ball advice corkle its very useful to have tips from people with experience.

thank you claphammama and warlin my dad was a fantastic single parent! If i can acheive half of what he did i will be very pleased :)

Shirehobbit · 13/08/2013 16:33

warlin - I hadn't heard of people turning placentas into food, until I read Mel Geidroyc's From Here to Maternity (which is totally hilarious in bits, btw, and a dead easy read) and there is a chapter where someone else's placenta is served (unbeknownst to Mel and her husband). I don't want to give too much away in case anyone reads it - but I fell off my chair laughing.

BowlFullofJelly · 13/08/2013 16:36

Maybe baby is just having a nice stretch pseudo (or is enormous Wink)

PseudoBadger · 13/08/2013 16:45

Thanks Bowl! I have a feeling that the bladder pressure is the baby, and the breathlessness might be excess fluid. I'll mention it to my consultant anyway.

I'm definitely not eating my placenta! And I don't think I can donate cord blood after having a transfusion last time :(

claphammama · 13/08/2013 16:46

yes, I'm also in St Thomas terrified! When are you due? I'm 22nd Oct. I also think they are great so far and so good to hear that you had such a positive experience there chickien.

Good you can work from home terrified - it takes so much pressure off when you are not feeling well

pseudo I also run to the toilet every 15min. I really think it's the baby's head pushing on my bladder etc. I'm feeling so much more pressure down below these days - since I think the baby turned. It's been kicking me right under my ribcage all day!

apparently my placenta was "beautiful and massive" (still remember MW describing it this way as didn't think it could be beautiful... or particularly massive...) but didn't have the pleasure of seeing it.

flyer yeah... love pulling them out... Grin if you are a weirdo so am I Grin

HotSoupDumpling · 13/08/2013 16:48
  • I shall not be consuming my placenta
  • I also need the toilet constantly sometimes... like a UTI but definitely not one
  • Thanks for the Bugaboo Bee warning, I will be very careful on the escalators!
  • I also have a cheap Argos gym ball, and merrily avoided the 'not for pregnancy' warning on the instructions (what am I going to do on it that is more dangerous than the usual gym ball usage?!). Went for a smaller size one as I have short legs.
Flyer747 · 13/08/2013 17:05

www.twilightheadquarters.com/placenta.html

Anyone interested in eating their placenta the above website have some lovely recipes. The placenta roast sounds particularly lovely, a nice alternative to your Sunday joint of beef Grin

TheFalconsmistress · 13/08/2013 17:07

Cot arrived and built and Wills we wall is decorated i can beleive i only have just over 6 weeks till my due date so that means 8 and a half weeks at most if i go over. Its all a bit mad!!

RE the need to wee a lot I got this when she was head down which she was until 33+1 now she is transverse I fell i bit sicky :S

I will not be eating my placenta and i could not cord bank due to PPH too the thought makes me ill tbh sorry if that offends anyone Blush

Ds starts school tomorrow!!! Time flies so quick I am going to try and savour every second of Willows babyhood and try not to be a nervous nelly this time Grin

claphammama · 13/08/2013 17:24

oh flyer you are an angel... I've been trying to turn DP the Carnivore into a vegetarian for years and have run out of ammunition... if this doesn't work, nothing will! Placenta cocktail anyone?

TheFalconsmistress · 13/08/2013 17:29

This is an odd one that come to me Is anyone expecting a "push present"? I am not sure if its a done thing but a present would be nice lol saying that its my birthday on Oct 9th so I will prob get a pressie for that and be too in love with my bundle to care Grin

claphammama · 13/08/2013 17:37

I found this page with Present Ideas" on Pinterest... a lot of Cartier. How fitting - only Cartier could compensate for this kind of pain! LOL

claphammama · 13/08/2013 17:38

sorry the link doesn't work - trying again

"Push Present Ideas"

Soupqueen · 13/08/2013 17:40

Trying to remember all the things I wanted to respond to!

Great to see good scan news.

I will be taking raspberry leaf tea from 37 weeks. As far as I understand it, it isn't meant to bring on labour but to tone the uterus to make the process easier? Anything that can help me avoid the dreaded drip....

I haven't been using a gym ball, but there were some available to try at my NCT class on Saturday. I was amazed how comfy I found it, just to sit on, definitely coped better using that than I would sitting on a hard, wooden chair all day. I've ordered a cheapie from Amazon. The instructor confirmed my suspicion that the "maternity" ones are no different to gym balls, just more expensive!

We also got to try a TENS machine, think I'll give that a go when the time comes.

I'm a bit of a hippy in many ways, but placenta eating is a step too far for me I'm afraid! I will look into cord blood donation though.

I've only just started getting some hospital bag stuff, haven't thought about food yet.....

Someone mentioned pain in the labia area, worse when turning in bed. That sounds very similar to how my SPD started.

I feel a constant need to pee too, like a uti, but not.

I'm shattered today. DH went out last night after our class and snored all night. I am not best pleased with him today.

Think that's me caught up!

TheFalconsmistress · 13/08/2013 17:41

Grin DH definitely only afford CATier Grin but I saw some lovely silver jewelry on tiffany... I may drop hints

roxvox · 13/08/2013 17:43

I asked about that on one of the earlier threads falcon! I had never heard of it before and it popped up as a news topic on a site somewhere. I may have mentioned it in hope jest to DH, but am not expecting anything as we are trying to save as much money as possible for when I am earning bugger all on maternity leave.

My boss was telling me that with his first born he was so overcome with emotion that he got carried away and spent somewhere in the region of £3.5k in a local jewellers on a heart-shaped diamond ring for his wife. He hadn't heard of push presents either, but was caught off guard by his strong feelings after the baby was born and had the urge to do something grand to thank her for the last 9 months of effort! He then passed comment about how she never wears it, and also how he couldn't afford to do it now with 4 kids... Smile

claphammama · 13/08/2013 17:44

drop... drop... drop... falcon like Chinese water torture...

Flyer747 · 13/08/2013 17:46

I was going to drop hints about getting an eternity ring as I believe it's tradition (probably not been tradition for years) I'm rubbish at keeping things dp bought me a diamond necklace last year I lost it by march and then the previous year he bought me diamond earrings they were gone by the February....So I think I've used all my lifelines up now.

claphammama · 13/08/2013 17:48

oh no...!! How did you manage to lose them flyer...? I think DP would strangle me if I lost mine so I'm being super careful...

MrsO27 · 13/08/2013 17:53

It's so annoying being busy at work and missing a whole day's chat! mon my pain is worse after walking/standing too, roxvox yours seems to be worse at night but I tend to get some relief with rest so not sure it's the same. I'll just have to mention it to mw on 29th I think but i do have a gym ball so will continue to use that. It's actually Dh's so a bit big for me, but I love it. Is everyone keeping up with their pelvic floor exercises? I've got worse, lucky if i remember once every 3 days. I now fear that I'll just become an incontinent mess after the birth. Oh, and I've got thick black hairs sprouting on my chin and belly!! Tweezers are an essential at the mo. Either that or I join the circus as a bearded lady. It's such a glamorous time.
I'm not expecting a push present falcon but won't turn one down Smile. My birthday is also in October (2nd) though so might be "pushing it". It sounds corny but I love a nice card, my mum has pics of her with me and my brothers in hospital when she had us and there's always a huge card from my dad in the background saying some thing along the lines of "to my beautiful wife on the birth of our daughter/son". I would be happy with that and keep it forever but I am a bit of a daft romantic!
