Flyer, im 5'6 and find the 65cm one perfect! !

roxvox · 13/08/2013 12:18

I have just text my Mum to ask her for more details about the 3 pregnancies she has had. I know they were all natural births, and that she only tore with her third (my younger brother). She also only got one stretch mark (again, with my brother), so fingers crossed I will follow suit with that!

Warlin · 13/08/2013 12:47

Oh can't believe I have never asked these questions..going to ask mum today. All I know is that they were all natural births, all a little bit overdue and not many stretch marks. Weights ranged from 6lbs 8 to 7lbs 8...I'm sceptical about that trend though as babies are def getting bigger generally.

MoN 8??? She deserves a medal

istTimer how sad that your mum left....:( Your dad must have done an awesome job though on his own.

Clapham yay to 30 weeks and making up with dp

Flyer747 · 13/08/2013 12:47

Thanks Roofio a 65cm will be fine for me then Smile

roxvox · 13/08/2013 12:52

Just heard back from my Mum;

First birth (my sister) = 10 days overdue, 7lbs 4oz
Second birth (me) = 2 days overdue, 8lb 3oz
Third birth (my brother) = 4 days overdue, 9lb 14oz

I am definitely hoping that my first will be like her second one in terms of date, and like her first in terms of weight!

warlin I have no idea how I'm going to manage it!! Just hoping for the best. I've got a Kari-me sling for when baby is newborn and then we have the stokke my carrier one for 3 months and older- think its like a baby bjorn. I'm hoping ds might be happy to either be in pushchair or walk so I can have the new baby in the sling. In reality though ds will probably be on my back and the new baby on my front and I'll probably never leave the house!!
I'm not taking raspberry leaf tea as advised not to by consultant although think that is due to previous cs and nothing else otherwise I'd give it a go but not until 37 weeks. No idea what my mums labours were like apart from that her second two were very quick and the first a forceps. Must ask her tonight.
Not sure re the weight of the baby thing, I thought it was supposed to be somewhere in between you and your partner. I was quite small and not quite 6lb whereas DH was enormous 8lb something at 36 weeks ds seemed more like DH and was 7lb 6oz at 36 weeks!! This one will be enormous too I think although hoping it won't be as that's one of my vbac conditions, baby not allowed to be too big as I'm quite teeny tiny!

legallyblond · 13/08/2013 13:37

Just to add my tuppence worth (not posted for a couple of days... The thread flies along!)...

Re genetics playing a role - probably to some extent as it depends, after all, a lot on physical make up, especially labour itself. Just to clarify though, whether or not your mother had pre eclampsia in pregnancy should have no bearing on whether you will. PE is about the interaction between the baby's genetic make up and the mother, so it depends on the "mix" with the baby's father. The first thing anyone asks if blood pressure starts creeping up in a second pregnancy where there has been no pre eclampsia in the first preg is "is it the same father?"? If yes, PE will be unlikely. If no, no way of knowing... I learnt this while in pre/post natal ward after my stitch!

Re raspberry leaf tea... I fully recommend it if you get to term and the blighter is hanging about. O drank it lots after 40 weeks with DD and I swear it was why my induction was so good. I was given the pessary to soften the cervix and they commented that my cervix was nice and "ripe" (?!? Ewww!) already. I never needed the drip Grin.

Flyer747 · 13/08/2013 13:40

Shooting I saw one of those Kari-Me slings the other week I really liked the look of it.

On birth weight dp was 9lb 4, the lightest of all his siblings his sister was over 10lb....I really really hope this baby has my birth genes (I was 7lb something)

PseudoBadger · 13/08/2013 13:51

Finding work tough today, if I sit normally in my chair baby is squished up against my ribs and it feels horrible. If I sit upright on the edge of my chair to avoid this then my pelvis is agony. And I can't be arsed to walk around every few minutes either. Grr

roxvox · 13/08/2013 13:52

Has anyone else been er... "sampling" their hospital bag food?

Afternoon everybody! 28 pages in and I've not caught up with all your posts, sorry.

I have questions which I apologise if they've been discussed already, but please oblige Smile

  1. Whooping cough vaccine: have you/are you? Consultant was ignorant of this and a lady in waiting (interminably waiting) room said you book it with your GP.
  2. Baby measuring large: I'm 30 weeks and baby is measuring 34 weeks according to consultant with his paper tape. My dates are not wrong. Not been offered a scan - is this normal to just wing it? It's just a big baby right? No indications of GD from bloods. Don't want to be messed with and liked the "Good sized baby" he flatly spoke of but worried about birthing a whopper...
Shirehobbit · 13/08/2013 13:59

Afternoon all Smile

I near broke myself at school yesterday (lifting and carrying things I shouldn't have) and my sacro-illiac (?sp) joint was agony last night. I think it's probably more due to my old back problems than the pregnancy, but it was a long old night. However, lots of rest, warm baths, hot water bottle all night and pregnancy yoga this morning and I can walk about without swearing.

Interesting point about maternal-pregnancy experiences. My Mum and I are like chalk and cheese, physically (she's tall, very slim, sinewy and light where I am short, muscular and powerful). She was very late starting her periods where I was quite early. I guess I just take after my Dad's side (and I am the spitting image of him, minus beard Wink )
Shame it's too late to ask his Mum (she died in 1996) about her pregnancies and labours, as I would think that would be more useful for me.

roxvox · 13/08/2013 14:10

sisteroutlaw I have had the WC jab. Midwife wasn't too pushy with it, and just told me to read the leaflet and make my own decision, and at first I wasn't going to have it because I didn't want to pump something into my body that I didn't know much about, but I decided to go for it once I had read that 13 babies had died with WC so far this year. It's the same vaccine they give to children before they start school, and it really didn't hurt at all and only gave me slightly sore arm for 48 hours max. You will need to just call up your doctors surgery and book it, and they'll give you an appointment with a nurse (or whoever administers the jab in your surgery).

As for the measurements, I think it's been discussed on here how the whole fabric tape measuring method is pretty flawed and can be quite inaccurate.

roofio87 · 13/08/2013 14:24

haha roxvox my friend at work just caught me drinking one of my capri suns and was like "as if you'll have any left before you go into labour!!"

roofio87 · 13/08/2013 14:27

re:measurements. I take my mw's measurements as shes always measured me and will be quite consistent, but if its just one consultant doing it one time I'd take it with a pinch of salt!!

Wickedgirl · 13/08/2013 14:40

Not sure if any of you are interested, but you can donate your cord blood after the baby is born

how to donate

This isn't going to suit every one of course

BowlFullofJelly · 13/08/2013 14:46

Haha, can't believe you lot are scoffing your hospital bag before I have even packed mine Grin.

Getting so excited abut maternity leave - finish a week on Friday. It's just kind of dawning on me that the baby is coming soon - this pregnancy has gone so quickly.

My mum has issues with her memory since a brain injury so no use asking her - I was talking to her about why she had a c-section with my middle sister and she is convinced that she didn't, but I am bloody sure this is what she has told me in the past Hmm. I am just going to gear myself up for another late baby, possible induction and long labour and anything better than that will be a bonus.

terrifiednewbie · 13/08/2013 15:04

I've missed countless threads and just spent ages trying to catch up. Sorry to hear some of you are going through some rough times (I share your SPD pain, having been on crutches for a month, wearing a serola belt constantly, physio and hydrotherapy 3 times a week and still feel like I am barely mobile!). Fingers crossed the PE stays in check.

Kiwee- where in NZ are you based? I worked as a junior obstetrics doctor at National Women's there many many years ago- fabulous teams there (part of me wishes I was delivering there, although Tommies have been great!)

For those of you feeling they are underprepared, we're still living in the midst of a building site having finally moved a month ago- currently holed up in my bedroom with en suite all day as the other bathroom is being gutted and so we haven't bought anything for the baby. I think everyone else found it amusing watching me try to 'test' pushchairs, and being wheeled around John Lewis on a chair during their nursery consultation, but we have decided to go for the Uppababy Cruz. I'm going to scroll back through the threads and find the hospital bag list and start ordering everything online as going around the shops isn't really realistic. Poor DH is doing absolutely everything at the moment!

Sorry for the mammoth thread- we're on the home straight now!

claphammama · 13/08/2013 15:04

LOL - this really made me laugh roxvox!

lucky lucky lucky bowlfull! only a few days to go. I still have 4.5 weeks to go but starting my handover this week so it feels like I'm almost there. Feels so good to keep responding to all emails with "+Ben" (my replacement) Grin

shire I'm also a carbon copy of my dad minus the beard and with slightly better legs... although over the last few years there have been a few stray hair sprouting occasionally on my chin... but psssst, this secret must NEVER leave this thread!!

I was really hoping this baby could be the same size as DS (lovely 6lb 8oz which already did enough damage...) but I think the last two weeks in Greece and earlier holiday in Turkey with all the baklavas and turkish delights might have ruined this plan...

claphammama · 13/08/2013 15:07

terrified are you actually an obstetrician...??

roofio87 · 13/08/2013 15:11

wicked I would love to donate my cord blood, but they only do it at certain hospitals and they all seem to be in London Sad

BowlFullofJelly · 13/08/2013 15:13

Haha, I have during this pregnancy had two bastard hairs growing out of my chin as well clapham - couldn't find my decent tweezers at the weekend so spent a teary 20 minutes plucking away with a crap pair with no success before having a breakdown and getting DP to get them. Glamour!

terrified that sounds pretty stressful, when is your house going to start being less of a building site?

claphammama · 13/08/2013 15:26

haha, so sexy bowlfull! these secrets must die with this thread Grin

chickieno1 · 13/08/2013 15:31

terrified SPD sounds really bad :( online shopping is definitely the way to go! I'm also looking at the uppababy cruz but not entirely sure the wheels are big enough. They're very pretty though! Had ds at tommies (and dh and I used to work there) and I thought they were fabulous

Warlin · 13/08/2013 15:32

So on the cord/ placenta topic...is anyone planning to do anything with theirs? On another mumsnet thread it seems lots of people get the placenta made into pills or store it for the stems cells or donate? Several people even got it made into food snacks of some description!! It is super healthy and does seem a shame to waste but scared to ask the mw in case she thinks I've lost the plot :)

Also this time I'm going to ask to see the placenta....from hearing others talk about it, it seems quite fascinating and mine presumably just went in the bin. Feel like a hippy making any of these suggestions to the hospital though!

roxvox ha ha...I want a capri sun now.
