I paid about £15 for a vibrating bouncer from asda simular to what I had for dd and I never had a problem with dd's I would never consider spending well over £100 on a bouncer.

Buggy wise I have gone for the babystyle oyster. Fairly reasonably sized for a travel system compatible with 3 different car seats (britax, maxi cosi, babystyle own) and when I get bored if it (which no doubt I inevitably will) I can just change the colour pack on it to spice it up a bit and I've paid £387.49 for the chassis, seat unit, carry cot and colour pack which I'm quite happy with
X

Pinkforboys · 10/08/2013 13:50

Ooh- babystyle Oyster=v.smart.
btw- I'm Gumtree-ing the bouncer...

HotSoupDumpling · 10/08/2013 14:13

Pink, we're getting a bee. Mostly because it's the lightest we found, and I'm quite little. Plus it's small so good for London transport.

MrsO27 · 10/08/2013 15:41

pink we've ordered the icandy peach. Collect it next month.
I've not bought a bouncer yet, can newborns go in them, or are they for when they're a bit older?
Glad to hear you're not in labour jelly. Hope all goes well with the scan on Monday.

roofio87 · 10/08/2013 15:55

I've just been shopping in town (flyer im not sat in eat in L1, very near you if you're in work, just thought id throw that very stalkerish comment in!!) bought everything for my hospital bag and picked up two packs of 3 sleepsuits for £3 each from primark sale!!

cuillereasoupe · 10/08/2013 16:03

My boobs chose yesterday at dinner with ILs + guests to start leaking... We're on our hols in Spain and it's ridiculously hot and all I want to do is lie on the bed in the buff but now I have to wear a hot and sticky bra all day Angry what a PITA!

Slippysnow · 10/08/2013 16:09

mrso from what I have seen most bouncers say suitable for new borns, then reviews tend to say I wouldn't put my new born in. So I think it may be a judgement call on when you feel they look comfortable or supported. I suppose the other thought would be most do not recline to the recommended 180 degrees.

But this is my first, others may have different views :)

Tarlia · 10/08/2013 16:27

Thank you all for the well wishes and support. I feel lucky to be on such a lovely bus with you all Flowers.

PinkfB buggy choosing is a tough job, as there really isnt one on the market that covers everything, but for me most important is parent facing - good luck. Won't say what we are getting as you'll all think I lost the plot :P

Jelly Im so glad you are ok afteral. Was bubs inactive on the CTG? I'm 32 weeks now and finding baby inactive but I think it's because instead of booting me he is now turning and rolling or hiccuping as space is running out in there.

tucking how are you managing with the ironing and SPD? Hope you are comfy enough when doing it and not standing!

We have baby bjorn bouncer - love love love. I think the most inmportant features are; bouncer reclines enough for a newborn and is bouncy enough so baby can bounce themselves. The Boucher saved my sanity with a puker who didn't like to be put down and being home alone for so many weeks while DP was away at work - stick him in, classical music on, mummy had time for a peaceful quick shower.

I managed to slip over last night and now my SPD has gone insane. I cannot walk a single step without crutches and even then I'm like a snail. Rolling over in bed is practically impossible too.

Soupqueen · 10/08/2013 16:42

tarlia, that sounds so painful, poor you. I have SPD, which is getting worse but sounds like yours is a lot worse than mine.

Glad all is ok, jelly

pink, we're going for a bugaboo bee for very similar reasons to hotsoup, it's small and light, I'm short, our main modes of transport are walking and Edinburgh public transport.

I'm just back from an all day NCT session, it really flew in and we both enjoyed it. People are warming up a bit, I think I was hasty in my initial view that I wasn't going to make friends. Exhausted now, so time for a lie down and try to feel movements. I've not felt much today but pretty sure it's because I've not been concentrating.

MrsO27 · 10/08/2013 17:11

That was my concern slippy about bouncers but might check out the baby bjorn one if it reclines further.
legally and people who've bought the bravado silk nursing bra, does it make your bust look like a bust? I hate that mono boob look I've had with previous non underwired bras. I'm not wanting a wonder bra effect, but just for my boobs to look like 2 separate breasts as opposed to one big blob! I like that it comes with pads, I have a thing about hard nipples showing through clothes, so like an extra layer of foam! I'm still wearing an underwired bra at the mo, but I do want to bf so thinking of changing to the nursing bra soon to protect my milking equipment Smile.

PseudoBadger · 10/08/2013 17:30

Very pleased for you Jelly and hope that the further checks are ok.

Pink I'm in north london (borough of Barnet) :)

Natalieand · 10/08/2013 17:32

Oh dear tarlia sounds like your having a tough time of it ATM, how r u feeling? Sending virtual hugs

I think I started using dd's bouncer in and off from about 3 weeks ish x

tarlia u have to tell us what buggy u have gone for? X

Pinkforboys · 10/08/2013 17:50

I'd never heard of SPD- you poor things. I thought varicose veins were bad but I feel lucky now! It's amazing how pregnancy distorts the body so much and it's a natural phenomena. Evolution still has a way to go....

I've just been stalking Mums in Crouch End eyeing up their buggies. I thought the Bee might be a bit low, but 2 Mums kindly walked by in both baby and toddler mode and it looks good. Last time I had my bro's 2H grey pram and then got a Mountain Buggy (good resell value). The MB was great for heath walking, but I doubt I'll be doing as much of that this mat leave as I won't have the a-natal buddies to hang out with as much as I did last time.

Soup- it may feel like forced friendship now but your nct mums will be fantastic support over the next year and on.

And thanks for the positive comments about the Baby-Bjorn bouncer. It looks like just the thing going from so high to so low. I love the look of the Bloom, but I don't think it will have nearly as much use (are looks really not everything?!?)
I'll add that to my list alongside the Baby-Bjorn sling. That was the bestest thing ever with DS1, just a shame my sis-in-law has handed it on to other friends now.

Pseudo- glad to find another norf londoner on here. Which hosp are you going to?
x

Pinkforboys · 10/08/2013 17:53

ps- (sorry, husband watching cricket, me bored on computer) anyone got any good tips on dealing with acid reflux other than necking gaviscon? Grin

Tarlia · 10/08/2013 17:54

MrsO underwire is totally comparable with breastfeeding so long as the bra fits perfectly. They say no wires as too many people wear poorly fitting bras. Wires should be flat against ribs, not on breast tissue. I've worn wires through both pregnancies and nursing bras with wires while I breastfed DS for 2.3 years.

Nat not great, but I try not to complain. Woke with headache and blurred vision this morning, which has since turned just into a weird fluffy head. Your baby list sounds good btw, fingers crossed he fits into the 0-1month stuff. Have you bought everything new (or new to you) again?

www.emmaljunga.com/dk/Barnevogn/Vaelg_din_Emmaljunga_vogn/Big_Star_Supreme-557.html The beast. I also have a few other buggy options in the basement.. But since baby is a winter baby, and will spend lots of naps either on the balcony or walking we wanted to go for a real cosy option this time as it gets SO cold here.

PseudoBadger · 10/08/2013 17:55

The Whittington (there were a couple of others on here at the Whit but I can't remember who).

Soupqueen · 10/08/2013 17:56

If you're looking for something a bit more natural, coconut water for acid reflux, and almonds.

Tarlia · 10/08/2013 17:58

Soup thanks for the tip, I'm going to try both! Acid reflux is making it hard to breath, almost sick at times when it goes crazy.

Natalieand · 10/08/2013 18:03

I don't think your mad for your buggy choice! I think we'd all love something big and cosy like that but practicalities just don't allow for it 9 times out of 10 nowadays
Have they given u any idea of how many more weeks u will make it with pre eclampsia? Or isit really a waiting game..?

Yes I have virtually brought every new again, mainly cos everything I had was pink. Literally every single item lol I always imagened myself with two girls so didn't think it an issue when buying dd everything in pink. I've actually already brought a high chair too (I forgot I had that) lol the only things that aren't new are both Moses baskets which are from my mums next door neighbour its chunky cane style one with Winnie the Pooh theme so would have cost alot brand new.

tuckingfits · 10/08/2013 18:14

jelly glad all was ok today & good luck for Monday - I'll be back down foe second hypnobirthing class wed night & then Thursday morning for 32 week scan to see if placenta has moved up. The hypnobirthing class was excellent,I'm so glad we got on it. Only four couples a month get to do it so it's probably highly sought after.

Tarlia the ironing is a necessary evil - I do the bare minimum of our stuff, just what has to be done & our pillow cases & duvet cover because I like how crisp it feels & it looks better,I never used to bother til I was doing other peoples' & was jealous they had nicely ironed bedding!! I am still standing to do it because I haven't figured put how to iron sitting down. I do a lot of shirts & seem to move around the board a lot to do them... I take regular breaks to sit on my gym ball & swivel my hips which really helps to ease things off a bit. My bump is beginning to feel in the way a bit but I think as long as I take my gym ball rests & don't force myself to stand when it's really bad,I should be alright. However,I will have to see how things go... It's so much better & easier to deal with than three nights a week in the bar I was working in as well as the ironing.

I'm so sorry to hear you slipped over, that must have been scary & painful. I fell off a garden bench into a bloody bush a couple of weeks ago and that really hurt & stuffed me up for a few days. Take it as easy as you can & hopefully things will go back to the previous levels of discomfort. Better than it is now, anyway.

Does anyone who had spd last time round know how soon we can expect to be back to normal after the birth? I am really hoping this isn't going to be a permanent fixture. It's far too painful to consider being like this long term. Sciatica was bad enough...

Pinkforboys · 10/08/2013 18:14

Pseudo I might see you there! I'm due at the Whittington on the 18th but am being threatened with inducement a week early due to old age.

Thanks for the tip Soup I'll give them a try. Acid was so bad last night I was sick. I'm now using the maternity pillow I bought for resting bump and raising legs to prop my head up at night and stop me from running for the bathroom. I think wheat makes it worse.

I'm trying to find the balance between lying with my legs in the air to stop the blood pooling in my legs against sitting upright to stop the reflux... [sigh]

Wickedgirl · 10/08/2013 19:31

tarlia I slipped last week (wet kitchen floor). I was in agony and kept crying so I know how much you must be hurting right now. I couldn't even get into bed because it hurt too much to try to lift my legs. Thankfully the worst of the pain only lasted 3 days (and nights) and has now settled to normal SPD pain again.
I love the make of pram you're going for, I looked after newborn twins that had one of those (double version) and although it is quite heavy, it is very robust and the babies were always cosy.
My reflux had made me sick a couple of times so I might ask the doctor for something stronger than gaviscon......perhaps omeprazole?

tucking. I had SPD in 2of my other pregnancies and as far as I can remember, it clears up fast. I was walking again properly within days. I said to my DH, I will be able to sleep better with a newborn in the house than I can currently because if the pain. It's silly isn't it?

Tarlia · 10/08/2013 20:17

It's great to hear that this pain may ease in a few days. Though of course sorry you both had falls, tucking and wicked.

Nat I'm being scanned every 3 weeks (and seeing consultant then too) and will be checked manually by either MW, GP or consultant every week. It's a waiting game to see how it progresses really, so I could be still here at 38 weeks - though they prob won't let me go over that as last time I got to 37 weeks and was rapidly downhill from there that instead of inducing me at the end of the week (at 38) as they thought on the Friday, they induced me by the Tuesday first thing. Just hoping I can stay at home as long as possible.
I guess that's the only disadvantage (if there is any!) of having a girl first, pink isn't as easily reuseable. Since this is DS2 instead of opting for all new clothes I've just added some special outfits. However 3-6 months is the wrong season so I'll have to buy most clothes there except vests prob.. Exciting!

tucking my SPD cleared up pretty much right after birth, though I wasn't as bad last time. Though they only noise I made in labour was a pure pain shriek when the stupid MW lifted my leg without even asking or warning me. Make sure it's on your birth plan in big letters and measure your painfree distance between knees before labour so they know, especially if you plan an epi.

wicked and nat def wouldn't be choosing this pram if I was still in the UK but they are very normal here. The buses have space and are very used to have two of those tanks on board.

Tarlia · 10/08/2013 20:20

Wow sorry, that was an essay!

I also meant to say, sorry for those of you also suffering with awful reflux. I only had slight heartburn last time, this is nasty. Good thing these little bundles are worth it, huh?

Natalieand · 10/08/2013 20:30

Can't remember who asked about the SPd but I had it quite severely with dd and had an epidural and tbh once the epidural wore off I don't remember getting another SPd pain...? Although I have it this time if has started much much later and is no where near as severe yet
