Jelly - good luck at the hospital.

Orange - enjoy your holiday & glad you managed to find some swimwear that fits.

1sttimer - we had DD in our room until she was about 2. Didn't plan it that way but she was a terrible sleeper and we sort of 'fell' into co-sleeping. I have mixed feelings about it (wasn't particularly conducive to intimacy between DP and I, and we had a hard time weaning her out of our bed) but, overall, it worked for us as a family.

I found it very hard to relax unless she was close by at night, whereas I have friends who just couldn't sleep properly with their babies in the same room and were itching to get them into their own rooms.

I wouldn't worry about it at this stage, but just wait and see how things go..

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 10/08/2013 10:38

Prisci - fingers crossed for the forthcoming MIL visit, she sounds an interesting character.

Natalie - your list has put me to shame Blush. I don't think I'll buy anything in the Newborn/up to 1 month size, but just go straight into 0-3 months (maybe just a couple of baby gros and vests)

DD was 8lb 8oz and I expect this one will be even bigger.

Natalieand · 10/08/2013 11:09

bridget dd was also 8.8lbs too, maybe I'm just being optimistic lol but I had growth scans for her and all predicted she would be big as she was 8.8 at 39+5 and fitted in new born fine and as in likely to have this one a little early due to his big head I'm hoping he will also fit in new born cos his body measurements are either average or below.

wicked good point I have some scratch mits already and probly about 5 hats, different sizes/styles
But I figured..... The 0-3 cardigans would fit him even at newborn size as they would be going over a vest and baby grow?

Wickedgirl · 10/08/2013 11:16

Sorry natalie, of course they would. My brain doesn't work in the mornings clearly!

Natalieand · 10/08/2013 11:19

I also have
Bouncer, play mat, changing bag, teddies, Moses basket x2, cot mobile, steraliser, teddies, buggy on order, car seat and isofix on order, one packet if nappies, buggy board.

Think all I need now is a new cot mattress (re-using dd's cot) stuff for my hospital bag, tub of formula milk, clips to carry shopping on buggy

Unless I've forgotten anything?

Natalieand · 10/08/2013 11:20

In actually a little disappointed I'm so organised cos now my nesting is starting to kick in and I have nothing to buy lol

Wickedgirl · 10/08/2013 11:44

Natalie.......I'm the same. I have had everything ready for months. I have 2 packs of newborn nappies, and then at least one packet in every size through to size 5 Blush

I have the cot ready, 2 cribs ready, the pram and car seat ready. (Actually I have the first size car seat and the second size car seat ready).

I am planning on breast feeding again but I still have bottles and steriliser ready (and breast pump). I've even bought a baby blender for when it starts weaning !

God I'm mad aren't I?

Natalieand · 10/08/2013 11:51

Not mad, just organised :-). My next step is to do hospitals bags befre my 34 weeks consultant appt (sept 4th) then after that get the cot up and bedding done nicely build the bouncer pack the changing bag fold everything neatly into draws! Eeek its so exciting isn't it!!!

roofio87 · 10/08/2013 11:58

ive got about 8 newborn vests and sleepsuits, but all second hand from baby's big cousins so thats perfect. ive got them if I need them but have only bought 0-3 month things myself. im going to get one nice 'coming home' outfit with mil nearer the time (shes insisting this is a family tradition!) in newborn and will exchange if I never use it. planning on just packing newborn things in baby's hospital bags and keeping some 0-3 month clothes in car just in casr he's a whopper!!

TheFalconsmistress · 10/08/2013 12:04

Morning ladies :)

My kettle blew up this morning. Unfortunately we live in such a way that we only seem to have money on a friday when i get tax credits and I spent all of it this week getting Oliver ready for school, haircuts gymkit etc as well as the usual bills to pay :( Luckily my mum lives close and Is away to buy us a kettle and i will pick it up when thom comes home from work. Sad state of affairs I feel sometime when i'm 28 and still needing to call my mum for help. Oh well lucky I have someone to turn to.

As for the room sharing as we have a small 2 bed flat and Oliver is 4yr 6 months Willow will be in with us until she is a year then she will share with him till we move.

Shirehobbit · 10/08/2013 12:22

Sorry to hear about the kettle, falcon - why do these unexpected expenses always come at the worst times?

I'm eating jammy doughnuts (remind me, who was talking about them earlier in the thread Hmm?) whilst watching the women's world championship marathon on tv. Feeling like a whale!! Blush

Natalieand · 10/08/2013 12:24

Don't worry falcon I live a simular way to you
Dh wages pays rent and all bills
Tax credits/child benefit pay for our petrol and food shopping
And the little bit of housing benefit we get I have as our spare money as its paid fortnightly so means I don't get it all in one go to go and waste. Hmmmppphhh never mind always have to try and remember there's always someone worse off then us even though it definately doesn't feel like it

TheFalconsmistress · 10/08/2013 12:34

Thanks nat and shire You are right nat least we can heat our homes and eat and get what we need there are people worse off. Emergencies always remind me how close to the line I am but hey I have food in and a roof over my head and DH has petrol to get to work could be worse im sure.

MotherOfNations · 10/08/2013 12:38

Hi everyone. I didn't get up until 10.45 this morning because Dp didn't crawl in until 4.15. He was surprisingly sober.

Finally off out shopping for school shoes and may e a couple of things for Eliana. I have no idea what I've bought so far. I'll need to drag it all out of the wardrobe tonight and make a list.
Dp wants me to buy some formula incase bf doesn't work out but I think I'd find it too tempting to give a bottle after a bad night if it was sitting there.

Natalieand · 10/08/2013 12:43

MoN what about a cpl of them little ready made cartons? That way u won't be forking out £7-£9 for a tub of formula u may never use also if in the night u decide u need it u won't have to boil and cool a kettle to be able to give her a bottle x

Flyer747 · 10/08/2013 12:53

Falcon sorry to hear of your woes, I'm 34 and still need help from bank of mum and dad at times, I get a good old nagging from my mum about managing money better at the time, but I hope I can do the same for my child/ren in the future....I'm sure your parents are happy to help. Living is expensive these days.

JellyCurls · 10/08/2013 12:53

Been on a trace and heartbeat fine, and been checked so not in labour. MW concerned about lack of movement so to have a scan on Monday to check my lazy baby is ok

Natalieand · 10/08/2013 13:05

That's re assuring jelly and at least u get to have an extra peek at baby :-)

TheFalconsmistress · 10/08/2013 13:06

Good to know your not in labour jelly and the scan should help put your mind at ease.

flyer i am certainly going to try and make sure DC dont blow there credit up the wall at 18 and have some savings but my mum tried with me i was not a good listener ie. "you will want a mortgage one day" me: "no i wont i will travel the world free from such ties" mum: Hmm

I wish I listened Blush I was a pta 18 year old

Flyer747 · 10/08/2013 13:11

As they say Falcon "Mum knows best" as much as I hate to admit it my
Mum is usually right Grin

Glad to hear all ok Jelly

Pinkforboys · 10/08/2013 13:14

jelly- any news? how are you?

I've just lost a morning to the internet, looking at buggies. I suffered from terrible buggy-envy with DS1 so my Mum's promised to help us out with a buggy for no.2 so we can get a decent one. Besides the moths have long since had the one we used for no.1!
I'm sorely tempted by the Bugaboo Bee, but have read mixed reviews. iCandy Peach also good reviews. We have a small car boot. Confused Anyone else looking into this yet and got any recommendations?

1stTimer25 · 10/08/2013 13:17

Thank you all for your plans/experience/advice I think we will see how we get along with baby and how long the Moses basket lasts... Worse case is putting the cot bed downstairs for a month or two and me sleeping on the sofa.

Glad things are going ok jelly :)

falcon completely understand as my DP and I live month to month on our incomes, living costs are crazy these days and everything seems to be more expensive and lasts less time! We would love to as many others be better off and live without penny pinching but I think it gives us a better sense of achievement and gratitude towards what we have managed to get for ourselves... Oh to win the lottery though eh?!

Natalieand · 10/08/2013 13:17

pink..... Looking into it? I ordered mine when I was about 12 weeks haha. One downside if impatient-ness if that's even a word is other than the birth I have very little to look forward too now cos I've brought most of if

Pinkforboys · 10/08/2013 13:17

oops- my computer didn't refresh properly- glad to hear not in labour jelly.
Good luck with scan on Monday.

Pinkforboys · 10/08/2013 13:22

natalie what did you get?!
(This is a long-wanted/waited for IVF pregnancy so I am only just letting myself believe it's really happening and, oh my, there's so much to get ready!)
What about baby bouncer- any thoughts there? I so love the look of the Bloom one but a- it's expensive, and b- I have horrible memories of DS1 slipping down into his dungarees in the cheap vibrating one we used to have. He never looked amused. I wish everything was available on a trial basis....
