Thanks Keep and Pen. I think today's just been a tough day for some reason. Sorry to off load on you lovely lot x

Pen glad bit was better than expected today Smile

keepitgoing · 20/08/2013 22:46

Of course maybe! I freaked out too. Ooh also you're around the point your second period would have been. Some ladies get a bit of blood then.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 21/08/2013 07:29

Is that right Keep? I never knew that. No spotting at all this morning, but I'm getting little pin prick sensations in my bikini line. Especially when walking. I have a tendency to march rather than walk and it wasn't comfortable this morning. I don't know whether to tell anyone or not. Is it normal? I've had them on and off since ET really, always in the same place.

When am I going to stop being so paranoid Hmm please say it's soon Wink

How are all of you today?

keepitgoing · 21/08/2013 07:37

Er... Do you mean on the skin?! Don't know what that could be but my skin has been much worse different.

I would say after 12 weeks is a big difference x

NoMaybeAboutIt · 21/08/2013 07:38

No Keep, in my tummy byt bikini line x

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 21/08/2013 08:25

Maybe it is completely normal to mental and freak out worry about a new pregnancy. I would think that the pin prick on your bikini line is much more to do with the relaxin hormone making your ligaments soft ready for Fin to grow which is why it is worse when you're walking as everything is moving about more, or possibly due to the increased blood flow that occurs around your womble as it is so busy at the moment, and as you know exercise makes blood flow quicker anyway. I would always always say if you're worried do call your mw, it's what they're for!

Morning everyone else, how's it all going in preggo land?

SweetieTime · 21/08/2013 08:28

maybe I got loads of funny twinges and cramps. Not sure exactly pins and needles but definitely strange sensations for ages. I would say 12 weeks too. Sorry to break it to you but the worry doesn't end although I do think it lessens with each passing week. Hang in there x

NoMaybeAboutIt · 21/08/2013 08:41

Thanks lovely Boo and Sweetie. I know you're right. I'm a bit scared of my mw....

SweetieTime · 21/08/2013 09:56

I am getting quite excited now, see Maybe this is what happens 20 week of anxious nerves to be replaced by nervous excitement.

We were planning the nursery last night - OMG I never thought this would happen. So we are going for a gender neutral woodland theme. I have ordered some wall stickers and these then we can do them over both cots. I am wanting to go for just white cots and furniture. We have already got carry cots for the buggy so will be using these instead of moses baskets at first. I need to order new mattresses, does anyone know what spec mattress I should go for as they will have to be custom made due to unusual size? Do I want all PVC or all mesh or mesh & PVC covered? and do I need it ventilated all over or just at the head? And do I need a PVC removable sleeve? It might be actually easier to give them a ring and ask them the questions as no doubt they are the experts.

cartoontrickster · 21/08/2013 10:17

blimey sweetie who knew mattresses could be so complicated. love the wall stickers btw.
have we seen solars lately?
well I'm having a major wobble (perhaps maybe better close her earsWink ) did anyone else struggle with thes 'inbetween' part? you feel back to normal. youve not really got a bump particularily just a bit plumper than you were and you can't really feel the baby move. I just want something to keep me reasured. does that make sense?

OP posts:
NoMaybeAboutIt · 21/08/2013 10:36

That makes total sense Trix!! I'm sure someone wiser will have good advice Smile

Sweetie I love those bits!!!! Amazing!! I know nothing about mattresses. Why will they need to be custom ones? Do you have special cots?

SweetieTime · 21/08/2013 10:38

Trix you describe exactly how I felt. Symptoms all but gone, no movement happening, not much of a bump, no longer really feel pregnant. That was exactly how I felt and with twins! So yes you are totally normal. How long until your next scan?

SweetieTime · 21/08/2013 10:41

Maybe the cots are those that fit the buggy so long and narrow. Standard mattresses are for prams or moses baskets. Cost is pretty similar so not a problem as it is advisable to get new mattresses anyway

cartoontrickster · 21/08/2013 10:51

not long really sweetie its on 2nd Sept. I'm half looking forward to it half not. its a scary scan and also because I know that the NHS don't really do scans after then. I'm so used to having regular scans its a bit frightening thought. I'm not sure how many private scans I can afford. dh has ordered a Doppler this morning. hopefully that will help.

OP posts:
SweetieTime · 21/08/2013 11:01

it is really difficult. Once your bump starts coming on and you feel the kicks it is easier. I have been very nervous every scan I have had but I cannot imagine how you feel after all you have been through.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 21/08/2013 11:05

Trix MrM and I have decided to have at least one thirst trimester scan. I think it massively helps to put your kind at rest.

I see Sweetie! Luckily our local pram shop is throwing in a mattress with the carry cot as part of the deal. Not that we've looked.....

cartoontrickster · 21/08/2013 11:20

sweetie we've all been through a lot to get here. just in different ways. you'd think we'd be able to relax and enjoy now.
maybe* I think that's definitely needed. I'm thinking I'll want another scan between 25 and 30wks and at least one more after that! sure noone has only the 12 and 20wk scans seems impossible to me.
anyone know if the mw listens to the hb at every appointment?

OP posts:
ThedementedPenguin · 21/08/2013 11:41

Okay so my advice may be a but redundant as I'm in NI so it might be different. However, at every hospital app I got a scan. One at 28 weeks. At every community Mw app (at doctors) I heard the heart beat with a Doppler.

Anyways at each Mw app at doctors I was basically sent for growth scans as I was measuring very small. So you may well get more scans. I'm really glad I didn't book private ones as it would of been a waste.

maybe what pram are you looking at?

sweetie I love those stickers. I had do much fun decorating ds' room. Ill take a picture and put it up. We painted it. I love it. Although the poor owl still has no pupils.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 21/08/2013 12:17

The Icandy peach Pen

I agree Trix, I don understand how you only get 2 scans!! I do think a third trimester scan should've made compulsory in the UK like it is in other countries

keepitgoing · 21/08/2013 13:00

Hi trix i also felt exactly the same as you before I could feel the baby move. My DH used to walk me through the changes to my body to try and calm me down - for example: putting on weight, no bleeding or pain, feel the uterus moving upwards (can you feel it? give it a try, it's a sort of hard dome shaped bit it'll be a few cm below your belly button at the moment) and darker nipples etc. I found that helpful.

I would be wary about getting a doppler. For one thing it can be hard to find the heartbeat sometimes, and that would properly freak you out. Also, once you can feel the baby move you will know that it is alive. Plus, apparently you should not rely on the doppler but should get to know your baby's movements, as they are more important.

trix it won't be long till you feel the baby, though I think you have anterior placenta too. Mine were unmistakeable at 20 weeks, but I know some ladies are later than that.

sweetie I'm a bit jealous of the nursery decorating. We are renting and anyway planning to buy by the time Kip is 2-3 months, so s/he'll be in with us until then.

maybe I agree it could be the relaxin. Who knows, really, there is so much crazy stuff going on while you're pregnant. It amazes me how literally everything about my body is changing.

solars come and tell us how you are!!

pen glad it wasn't as bad as you thought, but do take care.

So I have picked up my kitty cat :) :) she is so gorgeous. She seems to recognise me but we're obviously in a new house, so it's a lot for her to take in so she's hiding away.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 21/08/2013 13:21

Ah, that's lovely Keep! I'd be lost without my pup, you must feel better now she's back with you!!

You're right about the changes. It's crazy. I didn't think I'd notice such a difference. How women go into labour without realising they were preggers amazes me!!

I think it is the relaxin as I am just generally uncomfy in my hips and back. So much to learn!!

cartoontrickster · 21/08/2013 13:45

I think I can feel it keep. your dh sounds amazing. I need to keep telling myself those things.
I've been umming and ahhhing over the Doppler for weeks as I know once I feel proper movement that will help and that is what I should focus on. I think it can be really good for reasurance before then but a worry if you struggle to use it. I'd got in such a state I was thinking of trying to book a scan. I ultimately left it up to dh and he has ordered the Doppler. if it will stop us both worrying for a couple of weeks its worth it.
pen your system confuses me, so do you get more than two routine scans?

OP posts:
SweetieTime · 21/08/2013 13:54

Trix I am only just getting a bit of movement now and I have 2 on board and am 21+1 so try not to worry on that score too much. Mine are really wriggly on every scan we have had so far so it might be quite before the storm.

Keep so pleased your kitty recognised you, how long have you been parted? It is a shame you can not do anything for a nursery. We are getting ready early as I am not sure how long we have to keep twins in our room, but there isn't enough room for 2 full size cots which is why they may need to move into their own room when they no longer fit in their carry cots or if one is noisy and wakes the other.

Maybe the carry cots were Ebay purchases which is why I would want to buy new mattresses. I wouldn't if they were new but at half the retail price I couldn't refuse.

Pen let us know when you have posted your nursery pics, I am dead nosy and loved those Sparks put up of little Twinks nursery. I am leaving it to DH he has definitely the creative force in our marriage.

On the changing body front does anyone else have issues with their hands? I might have mentioned this before but for the last month at least my hands feel very weird. They are especially bad at night and I often wake up with pins and needles in them and they are quite painful. I have lost my ability to make a proper tight fist and can not grip to open lids etc. Does anyone else have this or heard of it before? I am sure it is a preggo thing.

keepitgoing · 21/08/2013 14:06

sweetie we've been parted for a year! So happy to see her, though now she's hidden somewhere in the house under boxes so I don't know where...

I've not had any issues with my hands, though I've heard lots about pins and needles esp in the legs. Also 'restless legs'. Actually I lie, I did wake up with pins and needles in my hands the other day. I thought it was because I had rolled onto my back and maybe Kip was compressing my nerve or something. I don't know what to suggest other than opening and closing hands lots to increase the blood flow as I assume that it what the issue is. Poor you!

I've read that the recommend babies in your room for 6 months, but people I know haven't all done that, so I think we'll see how it goes.

trix i find it easier to feel when lying down so there are no muscles in the tummy to confuse matters. OK with the doppler but just be aware that it can sometimes take midwives 5 or more minutes to find the heartbeat, and also with the anterior placenta this might muffle things. Do NOT panic if you can't hear it. When is it going to arrive?

sweetie maybe your twins are so cramped already that they can't kick out too well! :)

I wish I could have Harry Potter's magic wand, you know where he waves it and all the housework and tidying gets done. I am SICK of unpacking and it never seems to get any less.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 21/08/2013 14:07

Ooh, another interesting symptom Sweetie! I wonder if MrKeep may know?

You cannot argue with half price. I love a bargain. This is probably a silly question, but do twins like to sleep in the same cot? Or are they better off in separate ones?
