Poor you Jeff. Sounds really tough. Like faife says, you've done amazingly to get this far. I have no useful advice, but you have my utmost respect

x

HadALittleFaith · 06/10/2013 15:59

Thing is, BF is great...but with a poor latch it's incredibly difficult. Did you try nipple shields? I used the medula ones and they were our saving grace.

pinkr · 06/10/2013 16:11

I def think your health and well being is must important...happy mum happy baby. You've done brilliantly to get this far and I totally get what you mean about the stress colouring the experience.

Ahhh Jeffers in which case I think you have done fucking amazing. There is no way I could hack all that expressing. It is just tedious.

I reckon you have to get to the point when you know you have done what you can and recognise that your physical and mental well being is more important than continuing with bfing. I think you have to reach that decision yourself though and be properly content with it.

JethroTull · 06/10/2013 18:54

Thanks Hags. The boob is slightly less angry after a 2 hour nap on the sofa (bliss) so I'm feeling more human.

I'm going to ask the GP about how to dry my milk up & then move to FF. I'd love to be able to give some breast milk but I don't think it's possible.

MsJupiterJones · 06/10/2013 19:35

It sounds like you may need antibiotics Jeff. I was in the same situation with the early CS and TT but I am not sure I would have got through mastitis. You need to fix yourself so you can enjoy your lovely baby. All the best to you.

Hurrah for sleep pink!

I'm finding my hips are hurting at night, probably due to my sleeping position - I'm on my left side with a pregnancy support pillow around me, but my hips are taking all the strain and aching as a result. It could be that my mattress is too soft to support me properly and I need to shove a pillow under me. Anyone else dealt with this?

JethroTull · 07/10/2013 07:49

Frank ihad the exact same issue. Will be back later to explain...

FrankelInFoal · 07/10/2013 08:02

Thanks Jeff, hope you manage to see a Dr today.

SinkyMalinks · 07/10/2013 10:52

Frank- I came on here to ask much the same. My hips have been sore for a while but have eased with a looong pillow between my legs/feet.

But... Today my lower back has gone. Agony. Anyone tried pregnancy yoga/Pilates? Prepared to try anything...

MsJupiterJones · 07/10/2013 11:20

I ended up buying a new mattress... Ours was 10+ yrs old so a bit saggy which didn't help.

Other than that, a fat cushion between the legs helped (I used the dream genii doubled over) to get the hips aligned.

I also did pg yoga which I highly recommend, not only did it help my back and hips, it was a brilliant way to spend a couple of hours each week just focused on me & the baby.

FrankelInFoal · 07/10/2013 11:35

I've got a pregnancy pillow which I'm sleeping with between my legs. The problem is my left hip (the one I'm lying on), it's very stiff and sore when I wake up, like there's too much pressure on it. Might shove a pillow under it tonight to see if that makes a difference!

SinkyMalinks · 07/10/2013 12:18

Can you not alternate sides Frank? I get woken by hip pain overnight, but it's my prompt to lug my pillow to the other side. Seems to stave off the worst of it. (But, maybe that's where the wrenched back ahead come from...)

Jup, glad to hear the yoga was good. When did you go (can you remember?). Ones near me seem happy to take you from 12/16 weeks to term. Will I be the only one not imminently birthing?! (Not that I care if it'll help..)

FrankelInFoal · 07/10/2013 13:06

The advice says not to sleep on your right side though I can't remember why!

SinkyMalinks · 07/10/2013 13:17

I thought it was not on your back (but I do wake up like that..) and left better, by not heard not right

SinkyMalinks · 07/10/2013 13:24

Quick google. Lots of chatter, little data. Suggestions include keeping weight of uterus off liver Hmm and to improve circulation (I guess due to vc compression that means back is bad). Some random paper suggesting increased stillbirth risk in last days of pregnancy if you sleep other than on your left side. That appears to have been discredited, but haven't bothered reading myself.

I'll still be sleeping on my right- I'd not be able to walk otherwise.

HadALittleFaith · 07/10/2013 13:25

Left is best because of blood flow and nerve stuff. Frank could it be SPD or PGP? It's worth speaking to your midwife.

FrankelInFoal · 07/10/2013 13:51

I will mention it to her Faith but at the moment it doesn't feel like it's the joint. It eases off once I'm out of bed and disappears within an hour or so, it's just uncomfortable to wake up to!

JethroTull · 07/10/2013 15:16

Frank I ended up sleeping on a blow up mattress with a duvet underneath me as well as multiple pillows. - SSG being an engineer said it was all to do with displaced load. Basically your supporting an odd body shape & extra weight on one point of your body so it hurts. By 37 weeks it was like the princess & the pea bed SmileSmile

The left / right side thing I didn't worry too much about. I tried to go to sleep on my left side but frequently woke up because I needed to turn over due to the pain. I took 2 paracetamol before bed which helped too. You have all my sympathy because its painful & annoying when you only sleep for 90 mins at a time. Having a bath in the morning when I was on mat leave was good too.

JethroTull · 07/10/2013 15:18

Sinky that still birth paper was nonsense. My sis used it for her students as an example of how research should not be carried out. It freaked me out when I was googling so I asked her about it (she's a public health consultant) & she got on her soap box about it!!

SinkyMalinks · 07/10/2013 17:22

Yup- looked shoddy even on first glance. I'm not fretting and will continue to sleep on my left and right!

pinkr · 07/10/2013 18:28

I recommend pregnancy massage...I went every yep Weeks and it was 35 pounds well spent! Look for a qualified masseuse...I lay on my sides and she really worked the lower back and bum which is tight so leads to pain. Sports massage person should do it but the pressure needs to be really firm!

HadALittleFaith · 08/10/2013 06:56

jeff how is the boob? Did you see a doctor?

JethroTull · 08/10/2013 07:24

Morning Faif. Yes, saw the doctor. He gave me the whole spiel about massage, hot flannels, baths blah blah blah.... I cried. He gave me some anti B's. told me to take them next time I had the flu like symptoms. I asked his advice for how to dry up my milk - he wouldn't give me any as he can't recommend moving to formula. But did say slowly reducing expressing would minimise the mastitis.
