Hi roxvox no I'm in Exeter, but originally from Kernow! I take it you are in Cornwall?!

roxvox · 04/08/2013 22:00

1sttimer DH and I are both Cornish, but living up in Gloucestershire at the minute (better work prospects). Planning to have our baby at Treliske though and wasn't sure if I might see you there Grin ... Whereabouts in Cornwall are you from?

natalieand I can only imagine how wondering onto a labour ward in my pyjamas would send me into a mental panic - must make it all seem very very real!!

Wow I hope you will be able to get there roxvox! Ahh no i will be at the hosp in Exeter! My roots are Wadebridge but grew up in St Austell... Yourself?!

MrsO27 · 04/08/2013 22:29

Had proper hormonal cry today for about an hour. Feeling fat, ugly and particularly fed up of people asking "are you sure it's not twins" (always men thinking they're being funny, I should add). I feel a bit guilty now as there are lots of women out there desperate for a baby, and I want mine very, very much, but every now and again i just find it hard to cope with my changing body and often don't even recognise myself. Avoiding mirrors and cameras from now on, as vain as that sounds.
Glad you've had a better mw experience today natalie

roxvox · 04/08/2013 22:29

I am a Perranporth girl Smile ... My Mum and Dad live in Rose and DH's parents are in Truro, so we will be staying with either of them from 39 weeks. I'm not intending to make the 3 hour journey once labour starts! Although DH may have to as he'll still be working and although he primariy works from home and so can do that in Cornwall, he may have meetings etc up this way. Fingers crossed he won't on the actual day though!

My hypnobirthing book arrived yesterday. I didn't realise how big a book it is! I think I had better get reading. The idea really appeals to me though, so hopefully I will get into it.

MrsO - I totally know what you mean. I feel very much the same and am really missing exercise and feeling in control of my body. Hasn't helped that friends have achieved some pretty awesome things this weekend (one even swam the channel on Friday - I kid you not Shock )

Sounds like quite a few of us first timers are also first amongst friendship groups to have children. It has already been isolating, and it does worry me that if I don't meet more mums it could be a tough winter.

Smitten1981 · 04/08/2013 22:46

Mrs O, I find that people always say stupid things like that because they don't actually know what to say to you. Please try not to take it too personally. People have a habit of saying stupid things to pregnant people for some reason.

And body woes, I'm with you all. I've actually been fantasising about getting on a diet and exercise plan, kind of forgetting that I'll have a baby to look after at the same time - argh. Hopefully it'll be the last thing on my mind for a few months. Maybe I'll aim for a new year new start.

I'm also really irritable. I can't stand anyone other than DH and the dog these days, everyone is getting on my wick and I even managed to have an email fight with one of my line managers on Friday when I was working from home. I had the last word (or email) so I'm not looking forward to what I'll be going in to tomorrow. Sad

thethreeblondies · 04/08/2013 22:54

I was the first of my friends to have a baby when I had DD1 8 years ago, I got friendly with some of DH's workmates wives who advised me a little on toddler groups etc, it is daunting and can be trial and error to find ones where you "fit" in, my friends have all now had at least 2 babies/children each too and it was nice being able to sympathise and advise them over the years. My last friend without kids is due 5 weeks after me so looking forward to having someone with a baby close in age, other friends and I have been averaging a baby every year between us all!

We are off to London tomorrow morning, (from down here in Somerset) 2 1/2hrs on the superfast coach, we are heading to The Natural History Museum (DH and DD1 = very excited)

pinkbuttons · 04/08/2013 22:54

mrso ive had the exact same breakdown tonight with DH after he told me he thought Id eaten enough cake todayAngry (stupid man) your allowed to feel like that though, it is a huge change to go through for us all and the joy of getting a beautiful baby at the end doesn't make these 9 months any easier. I hope your feeling a bit better now. x
To everyone worrying about not knowing mums I was the same with DS. I still am only close friends with a few mums as none of my friendship group from school/uni are having children yet. but would massively recommend childrens centres if there are any near you. I went to a baby group with DS from 6 weeks and there was a huge range of people and because it was only for babies under 1 it was lovely and calm and you actually got to chat and get to know people. no chance of that now with a 2 yr old running around xx

LostMySocks · 04/08/2013 22:59

Hope everyone's had a good weekend and sorry for those of you with bad MW experiences.

It's just sunk in that I'm .31 weeks tomorrow. Scary. We moved into our new house last weekend and DH has been doing the nursery. Unfortunately there are 2 coats of wallpaper to strip. The bottom layer appears to have been stuck on with PVA glue. He's having to attack the wall with a belt sander and steamer. Poor man was covered in dust and I've been banned from going in because Of the dust so have hardly seen him this afternoon.
Anyone else found that the tiredness has come back? Can't decide if the week is catching up with me or just another symptom. Still only 6 boxes left to unpack.

Natalieand · 04/08/2013 23:01

I tried a baby group when dd was a few months old and it hated it so much I could have cried right there and then in the middle of the room and didn't go to another until dd was 14 months I went with someone who I knew wouldn't exactly call a friend I've been going a year and a half now have a great group of friends were always going out together texting face booking Etc so definately don't give up if u hate the first one u try and remember to try it more than once too get a feel of it too. X

LostMySocks · 04/08/2013 23:04

Threeblondies just seen your post. If you are going to the mat history museum it's also worth taking in the science museum as the top floor has lots of hands on exhibits of kids to play with (borrowed a friends DS recently and got to play with no dodgy looks from worried parents)

PseudoBadger · 05/08/2013 03:24

Insomniac in a holiday cottage reporting for duty. My wasp sting hand is still swollen (but getting better) and I've had a few baby related pains too I think. But my mind just won't switch off and I can't get comfy at all.
I've slept for about 30 mins tonight and DS then woke me up :(

I get a very over active imaginationfreaked out by weird things in holiday properties so I'm too scared to go and sit in the living room in the middle of the night :o

DP has been snoring gently for hours and so far I've watched Holby City and Phil Spencer Secret Agent without any danger of waking him.

And soon DS will be waking for the day :(

1stTimer25 · 05/08/2013 03:55

Apparently sleep is not on the agenda for me tonight either pseudo! I hope your hand continues to get better! I hate wasps - had a close encounter yesterday and managed to draw plenty of unwanted attention from fellow shoppers when I shouted and ran! Crazy pregnant lady alert! Ha!

roxvox ahh small world eh?! Rose is a lovely place :) ... I did wonder if you be having a week or so down here I couldn't imagine a journey like that now let alone in labour! Fingers crossed your dh can be with you so one less worry!

MrsO27 · 05/08/2013 06:19

Thanks, good to know others feeling the same. Feeling better now. Just hope the men at my work don't set me off with any inappropriate remarks today, never sure which way I'll go at the moment with these hormones and mood swings!

MrsO27 · 05/08/2013 06:45

Should add, when I say it's good to know others feel the same, I don't actually mean I'm glad we're all feeling like this, just that its comforting to know im not alone.

Lu001 · 05/08/2013 06:58

Hi everyone, I've been shamelessly lurking on mumsnet for the past week but haven't posted yet, can I join? First pregnancy and Due October 27th- stuck at home and off work with SPD the past 2 weeks, definitely don't feel like I'm 'blooming' at the moment so loved the thread title!

HotSoupDumpling · 05/08/2013 07:00

Took me most of yesterday morning to catch up on this thread after being on hols!

Back is really really painful. Apart from that, am actually sleeping a bit better in the cooler weather.

I have that exact New Look black dress, and love it! I don't usually shop there, but wanted a body con dress and couldn't justify JoJo prices with only three months of pregnancy to go... It's not the best quality but makes me look pregnant as opposed to fat!

Re washing: usually 3-4 loads of clothes a fortnight, then also bedding and towels washed weekly (or fortnightly depending on how much of a lazy skank I'm feeling!). No tumble drier here either so poor baby will have to get used to Muslims and towels so stiff that you can virtually bend them in half. Not a fan of fabric conditioner.

I opted for NhS classes rather than NcT ones. So far they've been fine and there's been a nice diverse range of people attending.

MotherOfNations · 05/08/2013 07:41

Oh yes Hotsoup it's best baby gets used to Muslims especially if you live in a multi-cultural area which I'm guessing you do given the diverse range of people at the NHS class. Grin

MotherOfNations · 05/08/2013 07:43

Hi Lu001 and welcome. Sorry you're struggling with spd. There's quite a few on here who are.

OrangeBlossom2 · 05/08/2013 07:44

Welcome Lu! Do you know what you are having or is it a surprise?

I slept awfully too, didn't drift off until after 12 then awake for ages at 2 with sore hips and bad dreams and the same thing at 4.30 with the addition of baby trying to escape through my side into the mattress, its favourite night time game. Very tired now.

I have two friends from work coming for lunch today, one who is due 5 days before me so probably lots of baby talk!

I bought a very comfy dark turquoise maxi skirt from new look which arrived at the weekend. Lovely and stretchy. A bit long for me but I just wear it a bit higher than you are meant to. It wasn't too expensive, about £25 I think.

HotSoupDumpling · 05/08/2013 07:48

MoN - wahahaha! Stupid iPad! My MiL makes that spelling mistake all the time and I snigger at her... And here's me doing it too...

Welcome Lu!

Soupqueen · 05/08/2013 07:58

Welcome Lu

30 weeks today and I have a hat trick of baby related things to "celebrate". Whooping cough injection first thing this morning, interviewing for my replacement this afternoon and our first NCT Class this evening.

Natalieand · 05/08/2013 08:01

10 weeks/70 days to go until edd.... Its got to fly by right ??

I read somewhere recently (although I have no idea how much truth is in it) that woman are more likely to go into labour when it is a full moon so I of course had to research the moon calendar for oct 2013 and apparently its going to be a full moon on oct 18th I am due on the 14th so will be interesting to see what occurs there...

Welcome lu x

pinkbuttons · 05/08/2013 08:22

Welcome lu sorry to hear your struggling with spd, I agree with the not blooming part, is anyone blooming?!

hotsoup and MoN I literally had to read both your posts 3 times before understanding what was going on, Grin I blame babybrain. I also just found a basket of clean laundry in the bath... think I need to go back to bed.

natalie think I saw that about the full moon after Prince george was born, just had to look too and the one in September is on the 19th which means Id either be 37+5 or 41+6(yikes) please dont hang around for the October full moon baby!
