Welcome back Hayle Smile

MoN I'm having the same ouchy low baby feeling at the moment. My GP felt my bump yesterday and said she was head down, so perhaps that's causing it? It's bloody agony walking around, and yes - like she's about to drop right out Shock seems to ease up as soon as I sit down and rest.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I'm so tired, thinking of going to bed at 9 like a loser!

MotherOfNations · 03/08/2013 20:10

I think you be be right textbook. She was breech at my last appointment and had been for a while I think as I was getting those horrible feeling kicks in my cervix
I remember the feeling from my other pregnancies when the head engages where you can't even sit comfortably because it feels like you are sitting on the head.

ananikifo · 03/08/2013 20:17

I'm sorry for everyone's discomforts. I bought a pregnancy pillow, which I was skeptical of a few months ago, and I had the best nap ever. I hope tonight goes the same way! Smile

My hope for feeding is to breastfeed but introduce some bottles after a few months so DH and his parents can feed the baby expressed milk sometimes. For this occasional feeding I have my eye on the mam anti-colic bottles which can go in the microwave individually so you can sterilise one at a time as you need them. After my standard over thinking I've made the decision not to buy bottles, formula, or a pump until I need them. If bf doesn't work we'll end up with whatever bottles they sell at 24 hour tesco.

GTbaby · 03/08/2013 22:38

I'm skeptical about anti colic bottles. Toppee tippee normal are anti colic. Then you get the special anti colic? I mean wtf. A friend used the special ones with no success. I say invest in a bottle of gripwater and infacol. Cheaper n more effective.

GTbaby · 03/08/2013 22:52

In case of emergency formula feeding. All formula brand sell starter packs. Aptimil includes 9mini bottles made up with teats. So no need to sterilise. It's an expensive way to feed but for short term ICE were a life saver for me and gave us time to buy bottles , formula and a steriliser.

I really thought bf would be easy. Didn't look into bottles or anything and its really difficult to get advice about ff.

TheFalconsmistress · 03/08/2013 22:52

Evening ladies,

Not much movement here today hope my Wills is ok, will be monitoring overnight and if not much more movement I will have to go into hospital in the morning.

Hope everyone gets a good sleep tonight!

Flyer747 · 03/08/2013 22:57

We attended the first Nct class today I have to say I'm not entirely sure about it. Other than one other couple there everyone seemed so serious. Well we've paid now so will complete the course, not to sure on Nct ways to be honest either, they are anti pain relief births, which is great in theory but I'm totally open minded to the fact that when you are in the thick of labour things sometimes need to change. And as far as bf goes they really push for it, which again in theory is great but sometimes in practice isn't always the case. My friend was telling me she got so stressed and worked up because bf was practically forced upon her and her baby wouldn't latch on. It was an awful 2 months, then when she decided to go down the formula route she felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. I just don't like the idea of someone ramming their views down my throat telling me what is best for me or my baby when that maybe isn't the case.....rant over Smile

TheFalconsmistress · 03/08/2013 23:17

Its one of the reasons i decided not to do NCT as i had heard about people having the same experience flyer hope it gets better for you xxx

MotherOfNations · 04/08/2013 00:06

I'm sure she's just fine Falcon but it's hard not to worry.

I've never done any antenatal classes but there's always been young children in my family so I guess I was used to them. I think so much does come naturally and you instinctively know what your baby needs a lot of the time and you soon learn what all the different cries mean

TheFalconsmistress · 04/08/2013 00:43

Had a bit more movement now mon I second what you say about it coming naturally you just get to know your baby quite quick and what is best for them. My HV said to me I was a good parent as i trusted my instincts about what he needed and tried not to worry too much easier said than done in the first few days but it soon comes! xxx

PseudoBadger · 04/08/2013 07:29

Our first NCT class everyone was really uptight and nervous. Over the next few sessions we all chilled out and relaxed and had a good time so I hope it improves for you. I didn't find them anti pain relief births?;

Falcon I hope all is ok today x

I got stung by a wasp on my little finger yesterday afternoon and my whole hand and wrist have swollen up, it's so painful. I'm having to take paracetamol and I took some of ds's Piriton when I got desperate. But it's not going down yet :(

OrangeBlossom2 · 04/08/2013 07:37

Ouch badger!
How is willow moving this morning falcon?

Shirehobbit · 04/08/2013 08:40

We decided against the NCT classes for a few reasons, not least expense, but also location - surprisingly, they were holding none in our area of the city and, should we have gone and found everyone else was local to where they were being held, then that would make post-birth socialising really hard for me, travel-wise. It was too big a gamble, especially as it was the social aspect that attracted us. However, I will be going to the NCT weekly social group, Bumps to Babes, from when I start mat leave in September. Seemed a good compromise.

Shirehobbit · 04/08/2013 08:42

How are movements now, falcon?

pseudo - I have a horsefly bite on my ankle that had exploded and is very angry and swollen. Never had that happen before. But not as nasty as a wasp sting - ouch! Has piriton helped at all?

Shirehobbit · 04/08/2013 08:44

orange - how did your grandmother get on at the wedding?

(Sorry for multiple posts - phone being difficult!)

OrangeBlossom2 · 04/08/2013 08:51

Thanks for asking shire, mum said she was ok but very tired so I didn't call but no dramatic incidents thankfully.

My mum got septicaemia in her leg from bites while pregnant with my sister, keep an eye on it.

roofio87 · 04/08/2013 09:36

I've decided not to do any antenatal classes, mostly because I don't have the time. We wouldn't have done nct just for the expense really. They have free ones round the corner from mine but they are 4 2 hour sessions an that seems like a lot. I've worked with baby's in the past and have nieces and nephews so practically know everything about caring for a baby and the rest of it ie the emotional, lack of sleep side of it I won't really learn until he's here anyway. I'm going to a bf workshop and an active birthing session but don't really feel I'd benefit massively from the parenting part of classes!!

Flyer747 · 04/08/2013 10:05

Yeah roofio I wish I'd just opted for the bf workshop now, the class was 1-5 yesterday afternoon and to be honest I didn't learn hardly anything, I was pretty bored! The only thing we were told which I found interesting is that Liverpool women's have recently increased the amount of birthing pools they have so you are pretty much guaranteed one now Smile and that she was saying what a fab hospital it is a leader of all the maternity units in the uk, that made me Smile

I can't remember are you going to the women's?

Pseudo when we were talking about pain relief one of the ladies on the course (who was a icu doctor) was saying about diamorphine as an option, the nct instructor basically said "we'll it's heroin would you give your baby heroin? If not then I'd advise you stay away from it" I was a tad gob smacked Shock

roofio87 · 04/08/2013 10:26

Yes I've heard so many good things about the women's, my mw is very pro the women's but we decided to opt for Ormskirk in the end as its closer and will take us half the time to get there when the time comes!!
Sounds like that particular nct instructor is very anti drugs which may be fine for her but she shouldn't push such strong opinions on others!!

Natalieand · 04/08/2013 11:14

Morning girls, falcon hope baby is giving u some re assuring kicks since u last posted x

Thanks for wishing me a lovely day at the wedding, everything went smoothly and my dress was ok in the end actually so that's all good :-) lots of ppl commented on how well I was looking which was nice (even if they were lying) lol

Unfortunately the night didn't end too well, I noticed Friday I had reduced movement but put it down to being busy, so Saturday I was aware and trying to feel for movements but i couldnt even feel one movement. I texted my midwife and spoke to a friend at the wedding who's two years into a midwifery course at uni and both suggested I go to be monitored. But of course it was my sisters wedding I was bridesmaid and reluctant to go, I went after the reception and got there at midnight. I'm appalled at the service I recieved, they were so rude to me for being an Inconvinience for the time of night I came (even tho I rung before hand) they couldn't find his heart beat on the ctg with half an hour or so of trying, in the end they found it with the hand held doppler after about 15 mins or so, she listened to it for all of 5 seconds and that was it! She was so rude to me about my high BMI, commenting on all the problems it was going to cause me in labour and delivery etc, they tested my wee which was +1 for protein and in my notes the midwife on duty has written my bp was 118/76 even tho my bp was never even done!!!! My own midwife(who happens to be the supervisor) texted me this morning to see how I got on so I explained what happened and she said although the midwife in question is inexperienced there's no excuse for it and to keep a close eye on baby's movements today as if its continuining they will want to do a scan on the blood flow through the placenta!

Haylebop12 · 04/08/2013 11:20

I had one shot of diamorphiene with dd, that was what they were offering instead of pethidine. I think it's important to know the pros and cons of all pain relief but to push personal attitudes into women is a little un called for. Wonder what she would have said about all the anti sickness I was taking to keep me from dehydrating...!!

I too am not doing any classes, didn't with dd either. Although I would like to go to a bf workshop as dd was ff so I'm a little clueless. However, there's the Internet and YouTube if that doesn't happen.

Supposed to see mw at 31 weeks which means this Friday. I think she's off so will be seeing her at 32. Definitely into single figure countdown by then!! Eeek!

1stTimer25 · 04/08/2013 11:22

Hi everyone, my DP and I have been going to bumps to babies near where we live and I was less than impressed with the first one, the ladies leading the class were anti-drug births and literally preaching that if you as a parent allow your child to cry your child will learn that you aren't there for them! Like other mums have said you get to know your baby and what the different cries mean.

On another matter, does anyone have any advice for the first meeting between dog and baby? We have a staffie x who we have had for 6years, he has adapted really well to the changes we have made around the house and has been allowed near Moses basket, cot, push chair etc and doesn't seem phased by any of it! A while ago he had his head on my tummy and baby kicked him which shocked him slightly so he hasn't done that since! Lol! But just wondering about that first interaction if anyone has any tips please??

Haylebop12 · 04/08/2013 11:23

Hope baby is making herself know today falcon

Sorry to hear that natalie its such a scary time being pregnant that there is no need for that attitude from the mw. Inexperienced or not. Hope he's wriggling for you today.

roofio87 · 04/08/2013 11:33

natalie that sounds like a horrible stressful day. You just needed reassuring that baby was ok not a lecture in the middle of the night about your weight!! I hope baby is more active today, are you able to have a bit more of a relaxed day with a chance to put your feet up?

1stTimer25 · 04/08/2013 11:37

Hope a nice relaxing day helps natalie ... Horrible for you to be treated in that way! I hope your midwife follows it up with her so she can learn from her mistakes!
