I was going to suggest the same, going to a nice air conditioned place where you can hang around as long as you need to like a shopping centre where there are free loos, or stopping off at a service station on the way to your holiday if you drive.

I have bought three bottles of e-cover non bio to wash all the baby stuff as it was on offer. It doesn't really smell of much at all. We have been using their products (washing up liquid, soap, dishwasher tablets etc) since ttc as they are relatively free of chemicals. I also have a little sample of persil from my bounty pack so will see if that smells nicer. I really want to wash all the baby things but am a bit worried I will ruin them before the baby even wears them! I will just wash them on a very low heat.

I have just got back from the chiropractor as they offered me a free adjustment for my birthday. No more adjustments on my tummy now as I am too big, but she did some different things today like me leaning back against her and she pulled me up from below my ribs and lots of work on my hips and back while I was on my side. I feel like I have been lengthened and my lower back is a bit more flexible. Hopefully I will have some relief for a few days as been really stiff and sore. I think I need another shower, it is 32.5 degrees outside here!

MotherOfNations · 01/08/2013 16:08

I do 3 sometimes 4 big loads a day Flyer. Before I met Dp I might have worn jeans more than once but he would think that was filthy. He insists on towels being washed after every use too so with 6 soon to be 7 people showering/bathing each day that's a whole load on it's own.
It worse during term time when I'm washing school uniform plus whatever they've only changed into for a few hours when they come home.

MotherOfNations · 01/08/2013 16:35

My baby bath/changer unit has just arrived. I'm very tempted to put it together just now but Dp said to wait and he'll do it while I'm in hospital

Umlauf · 01/08/2013 16:40

Blimey I'm a right slattern by comparison MON our laundry used to cost £2 a go (in-building laudromat) so I often wear jeans all week!! NOT now obviously, I'm floating around in my pants most days.

On my 7th load in a row since moving in, and I think there is a dryer in the washer if I could just work out how it works... Ugh the joys of renting!

Thanks for the non bio tip, just checked and the massive box I just bought is bio, so ill have to hold off on baby's things until I next get down the shops!!!

ananikifo · 01/08/2013 16:48

We just moved from having a dryer to no dryer and we're suffering. We have no where to dry sheets or duvet covers (it's a first floor flat) so we drape them over the curtain rods and open windows or glass doors. I'm not sure what you would do in bad weather. In the new house there is a garden, and I'll have a clothesline for the first time ever (you don't really see them in Canada) but DH really wants a dryer. The idea of axon sensor dryer with no plumbing or vent sounds appealing. How well do they dry? It would probably be useful since we're using cloth nappies.

On the subject of leave, I think I'll use days of annual leave here and there to make my weeks less tiring and leave around 36-37 weeks, using the rest of my annual leave. Actual mat leave will start the day before I'm due. My work isn't actually tiring, it's more my commute which will be better in a few weeks when I move. I basically go from one seated position to another with light, short walking in between, and no one's been letting me me move a chair for weeks.

OrangeBlossom2 · 01/08/2013 16:59

Ana our dryer works really well on the cottons setting. The synthetics setting isn't as good and I usually put it on twice if I have put in a big load and isn't all dry. You are probably supposed to put smaller loads in.

Eek MoN!

tuckingfits · 01/08/2013 17:07

Bugger doing all that washing MoN! My thought process is this, wear stuff more than once unless it is actually dirty, you are drying a clean body on your towel so I wouldn't want to wash them after one use, kids are surely not getting that dirty after school so those clothes could do a couple of days.

If Desperate Dan wants his stuff washing after each use whether or not it is dirty, I would be insisting that he do it & I would be reducing as many loads of other washing as possible too. Maybe I'm just totally lazy though...

Flyer747 · 01/08/2013 17:14

Tucking I was thinking the same, if dp insisted I washed towels daily he would be told where to go...However we share the washing, he is actually quite good at stuff like that, his mum is a modern woman and trained him well v v grateful to her for this Smile

MoN is there anywhere you could squeeze a tumble dryer in? My friend had one in her outside shed....You certainly have your work cut out with all that washing and drying.

Sparkeleigh · 01/08/2013 17:22

Aargh! Today I could quite happily murder my manager. I have no idea if it's hormones or he's just being really annoying but its so tempting to announce I'm going on maternity leave early... I'd be cutting my nose off to spite my face tho Sad
9 weeks left, 9 weeks left!

Pseudo, that's a bit inconsiderate of your mum but I guess since its her house there's not much you can do if she doesn't see that. I'd agree with the other suggestions, could you start your holiday early by going to somewhere nice on the way? If you give us a rough idea of where you're going maybe someone will have some suggestions?

I've got an old tumble drier that came with the house and its probably got a horrible energy rating but I love it. I'd need to buy a dehumidifier without it I think, I don't think the house would be airy or warm enough to get everything dry.

roxvox · 01/08/2013 17:37

We use our tumble dryer for socks and pants, or if we need something sooner rather than later. We live in a townhouse style house though so have 4 floors with plenty of bannisters. Our house often looks like a Chinese laundry, but it's amazing how quickly things dry and I probably only do 2 washes a week on average, so 2 days Chinese laundry, 5 days clear Smile ... So glad I will have the tumble dryer when baby is here though, I think it will really come into it's own. Especially if you're using cloth nappies.

Just a note: I read somewhere that if you give birth during your annual leave in the run up to your maternity leave, then you maternity leave will start automatically from that date and you will lose your annual leave entitlement. Again, not sure if this is just my company or if this is standard practice!

The only space is in the top floor loo but I don't know if an electrician would agree to putting a socket in there. So stupid that a 3 storey 4 bedroom house has such a tiny kitchen. It must have been designed by a man.

Soupqueen · 01/08/2013 17:57

MoN, agree with the others. If DH insisted on anything being washed he'd be shown the way to the washing machine.

I don't have a tumble dryer, we manage fine just the 2 of us so hopefully will be ok with 3 (we'll have to be, we're renting just now so no option). When I filled in the nappy lady's questionnaire, I specified that we have no tumble dryer or outside drying space so the recommendations were for super fast drying nappies.

Talking of renting, I'm furious. Our agency have taken out the rent payment twice today - making me overdrawn and impacting my credit rating. Typically, I've just found out and their offices are closed, they will be getting a very assertive phone call tomorrow. I doubt it can be sorted before the weekend, leaving me with no money (when I should have plenty) Angry

xuntitledx · 01/08/2013 18:03

We have a tumble dryer but only use it for towels, bedding, socks and underwear. Everything else goes on the airer and its all normally dry within a day.

I've been washing all the baby clothes as we've been buying them so everything is ready. Haven't used any special powder, just the normal as I suffer with very sensitive skin so I figure if its okay for me then it will be for him too!

Had our 3D scan yesterday and it was amazing - would highly recommend if funds allow...

Very tired again, feels like 1st trimester all over again (except without the sickness, thank god!)

PseudoBadger · 01/08/2013 18:11

Oh gosh yes, if DP insists on anything that he isn't damn well willing to do himself then he tends to find the opposite will happen.

Thanks re. tomorrow, I'm going to discuss options with DP when he gets in.

Sanjifair · 01/08/2013 18:14

Shit.

Got my blood test results back from my glucose test - sugar levels too high.

Now got to do the fasted GTT test, on Wednesday. Googling gestational diabetes and scaring myself, not happy.

I am not obese (size 10), exercise regularly and generally eat reasonably healthily except I do eat a lot of cake - there tends to be a lot at work. Currently have lots of nice cake at home from my birthday and don't think I can eat it now.
I did have a big baby last time (9lb 9 oz) which can be a risk factor apparently.

Really bricking myself now Sad

MotherOfNations · 01/08/2013 18:14

He does do his fair share of washings too and I'm just as bad as him now. He's rubbed off on me.

OrangeBlossom2 · 01/08/2013 18:15

How annoying soupqueen. You should be able to get them to put a note on your credit history, or you might be able to do it yourself. I am not sure that it would make a big difference to your credit rating though, I would only bother checking if you are about to apply for credit eg a mortgage. It is just annoying.

You could talk to them/ your bank about any getting a refund for any overdraft fees you have incurred because of it.

OrangeBlossom2 · 01/08/2013 18:17

Sorry to hear that Sanji. I hope the GTT test gives you the all clear on Wednesday. It sounds like you have done all you can to avoid it. Did you have the test last time with your big baby too?

Soupqueen · 01/08/2013 18:17

sanji, not good news but hopefully the GTT will come back clear.

orange, I will be applying for a mortgage soon, or I wouldn't be as bothered. Just researching now and the DD guarantee should guarantee an "immediate" refund, fingers crossed!

TheFalconsmistress · 01/08/2013 18:43

Sanji sorry to hear that but even if you do have GD its better to know and they will up your care so more scans and watch for any thing going wrong. Its no really diet or size related apparently its something to do with you hormones, nothing you could have helped hun Flowers

soupqueen Nothing worse hope you get it back quick!

Shootingstarsandcomets · 01/08/2013 19:13

Oh dear sanji hopefully gttt will be clear.
I'm back from consultant and he's agreed to a vbac if I go into labour on my own but elcs and no induction. I'm thrilled! And come October I will be doing everything I can to get this one out!!
Re washing I couldn't live without one in the winter. We don't have an airing cupboard so its the only way to get it properly dry. Certainly don't do 6 loads a day though!

1stTimer25 · 01/08/2013 19:19

Thank you pseudo very much appreciated! :)

cuillereasoupe · 01/08/2013 19:31

Washing that much must cost a fortune, and I have to say it isn't very environmentally friendly to wash towels that have been used once... but each to his own I suppose.

cazboldy · 01/08/2013 19:58

I also do 3/4 loads a day MoN.

more if doing bedding....

There's dh's overalls too which get washed seperately as they are really minging.

We use towels twice, and then wash, and each have our own. (and a little hook to hang it on the back of our bedroom door)

How often do you all wash your then? And what about bedding?

I have a dryer, and also use radiators and airers overnight in the winter.
dryer mainly gets used for towels and anything that definitely won't shrink!

LostMySocks · 01/08/2013 20:28

Flyer and MON at least you don't have to drag your OH's favourite clothes off him. DH has his favourite jeans which he's reluctant to let me wash....even when he's spilt stuff down them. As for his favourite tshirt that has bleach stains that he insists on wearing out of the house (looks like dodgy sweat patches). Apparently it is unreasonable to expect him to look not too scruffy when we go out
