glad you are feeling the baby flyer

pseudo I also hate this new sweatiness... sometimes I only have to go upstairs and feel all hot and sweaty. No idea how I'm going to survive Greece in August... although I guess it might be easier than London with swimming pools and sea breeze. Just checked the weather forecast and it's either 31 or 32 C for the next week.

MoN can't believe your gran has heating on this month!!

Tarlia · 28/07/2013 19:11

clapham and chick sorry managed to skip your posts by turning the page. Labour wasn't traumatic at the time, I was in my own world with a cold cloth over my eyes, but as it all came back after, yes it was pretty scary. Maybe you are right about the epi not slowing me too much, Clapham, though that in its self is freaking me out. I'd love another intervention free labour, I know I can cope, it's just medically they won't allow that risk. Hey Ho. I have a debrief with my MW in August so we will discuss it all then I guess.

oddlife wow sounds chaotic with you. Is this your first DC? Sorry I cannot remember.

roo sorry about your phone :( bad timing. 30+1 here and also feeling that urge to be totally sorted now. Bag this week too I think.

roofio87 · 28/07/2013 19:21

If anyone wants to try and get baby moving trying getting your electric whisk out!! I just whipped up some double cream and baby went absolutley crazy!!! must be the vibrations!!
pseudo is he crazy? best to get on with the sorting out now, when are you planning on starting maternity? would you even have time? men eh!!
flyer glad you've got some movements. mine have definitely been softer today (until i started whisking!!)

Natalieand · 28/07/2013 19:34

pseudo he must be mad! I sorted out our loft stuff at 16 weeks when I found out I had a blue bump....

Went into town today and purchased those sexy m+s granny knickers so that's my first hospital bag purchase made! Dd (who's almost 3) saw me hold the knickers up to show dh and said rather loudly to me in the shop 'you getting those big black knickers mum?kill me now lol

Also saw a really cute cardigan on sale in boots for bump only £6 and for some reason said I would leave it and now I'm home I'm gutted I didn't buy it and as it was a sale item will probly be gone by the time I go back :-(

Love hearing a out everyone's preparations/shopping/sorting out etc :-)

With regards too movements this baby has never been particularly active but I'm 28+6 now and he has definately been more active in the last few days so I'm wondering if he has moved positions again

Heating in this weather mon :-0

ananikifo · 28/07/2013 21:28

Re: movement: My movements are less sharp (like kicks) in the last few days but I get lots of shifting around and if I press down on a specific area he reacts and either moves or presses back. I think he's telling me to leave him alone! My pregnancy apps tell me he's starting to have less space to move around.

I've been bidding on baby things on eBay and I always think I'm so savvy because I bid in the last few minutes but I get caught up in the excitement and bid higher than I should. I still paid less than 50% rrp but I need to accept that sometimes I do silly things.

Ellie15 · 28/07/2013 23:21

Hi ladies, I've had a very productive weekend and am a bit surprised by it. We ordered a cot, mattress and change table from kiddicare all on sale and today I decided we should use a crib instead of a Moses basket and I found and a second hand one on gumtree for £35 when they are £100 new! I still need to buy a new mattress but would prefer to do that than use the second hand one. Considering we only got the pram on Monday I'm starting to feel more organised. I take all the advice I can from this thread and it's really helped. Although I had forgotten to add nursing clothes to the list doh!

I think baby is starting to run out of room too, he is reasonably active and especially objects when anything is leant up against my bump be it the laptop, plate or just my arm (he kicks like mad!).

GTbaby · 29/07/2013 01:11

Ellie I wouldn't buy to many nursing clothes. They are expensive and if you don't end up bf it's alot of money to have spent.
Jojo mama bebe store sells maternity/feeding dresses/tops. Maybe get those as at least you will get some wear out of them.

I really don't mean to be negative about bf. but it's horrible if it doesn't work n worse if you have spent lots of money on clothes and bras Hmm

favellio · 29/07/2013 06:50

hi everyone, finally found the time to add a post.

I've finally started thinking about packing my hospital bag. Got some maternity and breast pads in boots, some travel-sized toiletries and some massive nighties from peacocks. I haven't bought any maternity/nursing bras, as ive been living in the soft croptop style ones and can easily pull them down or up, so hoping I might be able to get away with them instead of splashing out on nursing bras Wink

legallyblond · 29/07/2013 06:55

Slippy and Soup - do NOT bother with nursing clothes! The very best thing to wear in terms if ease, style and discreetness is the following: a longish line (prob not an issue if you're on the shorter side!) vest top which is stretchy enough to be able to comfortably hoik the neck line under at least one boob (M and S do good, basic vest tops with stretchy neck lines in the underwear section), with a loose top on top that with easily lift up over your boobs - I seemed to buy most tops along these lines from H and M. Seriously - the easiest way to nurse!! Your create a kind if hole between the lowered vest top and the raised loose top - the loose top (or a scarf is also good, or a muslin) can then drape over baby's head. I bf for two years.... I feel I know the "tricks"!!!

MotherOfNations · 29/07/2013 07:08

Bump bands are good for hiding your wobbly post baby belly when you lift your too up to feed.

Wickedgirl · 29/07/2013 07:41

I have now finished work and am on maternity leave. I am 29+5 so not long until I start counting down the weeks in single figures. I still haven't seen a physio yet even though I was referred 7 weeks ago. What do you think will come first, the baby or a physio appointment?

OrangeBlossom2 · 29/07/2013 08:04

Congrats wicked, are you still in a lot of pain? Am i right you are a nanny? My physio chiropractor and massage lady all said i will probably feel better as soon as i stop working and teaching really bad for pvp/ spd so hopefully maternity leave will be some relief. You could try buying a big tubigrip (though I haven't been wearing mine as I sweat too much and feel too uncomfortable) and see if it helps you? She also reccomended the 'cat'. Pilates stretch and a couple of others I can scan in for you if you are interested? and a couple of modified ways of moving like one step at a time, getting into the car/ bed bum first and swivelling, keeping legs together apart from in bed resting one on a pillow or two. She did press on one of the sore bits very firmly for a while but I don't think it did much, mainly it seems you go to the physio for advice.

I am buying a couple of gro bags this morning but as they are only for 8lb 8oz plus so we also bought three big Muslins last week for swaddling in the early days (hopefully won't have a monster baby!). Did anyone else do this? I am not sure whether you the put a blanket on top as well or just put them in warm clothes underneath. They don't look very warm for October/November but I don't want to buy lots of blankets as I am not sure we will use them and am a bit worried about suffocating.

28 week appointment with the midwife today. Doesn't seem long at all since the last one 3 weeks ago.

PseudoBadger · 29/07/2013 08:09

With grobags there is a chart recommending what to dress baby in at what temperature.

PseudoBadger · 29/07/2013 08:11

Gro bag leaflet

Natalieand · 29/07/2013 08:13

orange dd was born nov 1st and she used to wear a vest, a baby grow (with feet) and then I swaddled her in a normal fleece blanket and I would also have another blanket over her as she slept in our room to begin with and I sleep with the window open or its too stuffy and in the day it was just vest baby gro and swaddled in fleece blanket. Its difficult too pre judge really as your baby may not like swaddling. Dd only went into her gro bag at like 6 months when she would get out of swaddling

PseudoBadger · 29/07/2013 08:16

DS hated swaddling...

OrangeBlossom2 · 29/07/2013 08:20

Thanks for the link pseudo, I like the gro bag because it tells you exactly what you need to do. It is the early days with blankets/swaddling that I have no idea about so it is useful to hear what other people did. Agh I hadn't thought the baby might not want to go in the gro bags natalie! Hopefully it will as I don't like the idea of blankets once it can wriggle around more. Even though all of us will have been brought up in blankets and were fine I still worry the baby will pull blankets over its face.

PseudoBadger · 29/07/2013 08:31

DS didn't reach the minimum weight for Gro bags for ages - but I can't remember what we did before that! He was a January baby and it was cold so I'm pretty sure he was dressed warmly (long sleeve vest and sleep suit with feet) and then had either 1, 2 or 3 blankets on top. I also rarely used the blankets after Gro bags were used so I do have some lying around that didn't get used afterwards, but you can use them in the pram or car etc so not the end of the world.

OrangeBlossom2 · 29/07/2013 08:37

That's true. Thanks pseudo.

Warlin · 29/07/2013 08:44

Hi All

Sounds like there has been lots of productivity on this thread over the weekend. I am def getting the nesting vibe now too and had a semi productive baby organising weekend. Dh and I shifted some furniture in what will be the nursery so we have a double bed in there now (last time we ended up sleeping separately a fair bit during the week and I found it nice to have a bed in the nursery for when the baby moves into the cot). I also washed the Maxi Cosi and stripped the moses basket. I did 2 full loads of washing of newborn stuff and am planning on doing the 0-3 months soon too. I also washed the new purchases! I have ordered a new moses basket mattress and lots of hospital bag stuff from mothercare so hoping that will be delivered soon.

We are not doing up a a nursery as the spare room in our house is really big and I think ideally it would make a lovely boys room for both of them so will wait and see.

I'm not buying any nursing clothes either until I see if bf can be established and works for us.

We had our growth scan yesterday (pic on fb) and I was so relieved that the baby isn't measuring small. Why do the midwives and their stupid measuring tape method scare you for no reason? I was measuring 30+4 which is exactly what I was yesterday with an estaimted weight of 3lbs 8oz. Everything looked fine except baby is breached. He better move although I think he has just moved into that position so I'm hoping it's temporary...yikes..what a horrible labour I could be in for if he doesnt Shock

Just in work so going to grab a coffee and get caught up on what I missed.

Hope the wedding was good flyer

Waves to everyone else x

OrangeBlossom2 · 29/07/2013 08:47

My app (sprout) says babies begin to turn ready for birth position from 33 weeks. Hopefully still plenty of time for him to spin round Warlin. The picture is so cute!

pinkbuttons · 29/07/2013 09:00

Lovely to here of all the preperations for babies Smile
Finally managed to get DH to be productive, I went out and had cake with friends and when I got back the crib was made Grin still have empty boxes everywhere but its progress.
My DS was also born In January and loved swaddling, he would have vest and baby grow on, wrapped in a big muslin and then one or two thin blankets depending on temperature of the room.
Yey to maternity leave wicked have you tried chasing up your physio appt? just incase youve slipped through the net.
I have drs appt just to get my fit to fly form this morning am irrationally nervous that theyll say no.

Shirehobbit · 29/07/2013 09:50

Morning all Smile

There's no good reason, but I have woken up feeling all tired and emotional today.

I've just had a letter from my GP surgery advising me to book the WC vaccine (which I've already booked for tomorrow) but it also says they are likely to give me the seasonal flu vaccine at the same time?
I've never had a flu vaccine. Doesn't it make you a bit ill? Is anyone else having it? I'm clearly not thinking straight today, but this has confused me. Any thoughts/opinions/experiences gratefully received! Confused

roxvox · 29/07/2013 09:56

shirehobbit I haven't had the flu vaccine, and when DH asked the MW about it the other week she said that they do not offer it at this time of year/for people due when we are (very early October). I am still debating the WC vaccine.

Re BF tops, I have bought one (in the JoJo mama sale), but am not intending to buy any more. It will be winter at first and so I am not taking the time to buy any nice BF tops because I will probably have them covered over in a big jumper anyway!

I was going to order our bednest rental last night but was so exhausted that I forgot and now I appear to have missed out on the 15% off Sad

Orange..... Yes I'm a nanny. Carrying a very heavy baby certainly hasn't helped with the SPD. It was also going upstairs to change nappies, getting buggies in out out of the car, lifting the little girl in and out of the car and everything else that goes with looking after 2small children. I have chased the appointment, there is just a long waiting list apparently.

This has info about blankets and sheets fir newborns
